Residents of Clark County will have one fewer big box retailer to choose from when it comes to this year’s Black Friday shopping binge.

Sears Holdings Corp., which also owns K-Mart, announced this week that they’ll be shutting down another 46 stores that have been losing money. That includes the Sears stores at Vancouver Mall [ed - Vancouver, WA], as well as Happy Valley, Ore [ed - Clackamas Town Center]. and a K-Mart in Gresham. In all, 33 more Sears stores will be closed, and 13 K-Marts.

“We thank associates affected by these store closures for their many contributions to our company,” Sears Holdings Corp. said in a statement on their company website. “Eligible associates will receive severance and will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Kmart or Sears stores.”

The Sears at Vancouver Mall was my first job - I learned a helluva lot in the many years I worked there. Sad to see it go.

Oh, and a hearty ‘fuck you’ to Eddie Lampert for burning Sears to the ground.

If a bear, large cat, or other large animal that can kill or injure humans gets to acclimated to humans/civilization (often by finding discarded or improperly-stored human food in the backcountry or being fed human food by well-meaning but clueless people), the first choice is to move them far away to somewhere else in their habitat range.

However, a lot of times, that doesn’t work. At Philmont Scout Ranch, where I’ve gone on extended backpacking treks four times since 1993, bears are given “three strikes”: first two strikes, they get captured and moved at increasing distances while being tagged and tracked. After the third strike, they become a rug; at that point, they’ve become a hazard to humans.

This is why, if you camp in backcountry areas where bears live, you keep a tight rein on your food and “smellables” (which includes a lot of thing you might not think as having scents, like batteries and film); always stow your smellables in bear bags at night.

This was an utterly unnecessary death which could have happened only because our culture has jettisoned a biblical view of the relative value of human life compared to animal life.

Because this animal was given a nap instead of a bullet, a human being is dead, and a savage animal is alive, on the prowl, and ready to kill again.

When I was a kid Mom and Dad didn’t get a TV until late 1959 when Grandma and Grandpa gave them their Admiral set. We had an old Philco AM radio with a 78 turntable. Still remember listening to WIlliam Conrad as Matt Dillion and John Dehner was Paladin. Sure was shocked to see Gunsmoke and Have Gun Will Travel when we got the TV!

I knew K-Mart’s days were numbered, but hadn’t heard in advance that the “Big K-Mart” a few blocks away is going out of business this week. Downtown Kent has lost most of their chain stores now, for most shopping you’ve got to go up to East Hill. My car can barely make it—it’s really steep.

My dad’s buddy Gene Gunnels (aka/Bam Bam) was (is) a drummer for Strawberry Alarm Clock. The first time I met him, I flew into Vegas, and dad picked me up with gifts of mushrooms and many burning doobies. He took me straight away to a First Friday party that was in a strip mall east of the Stratosphere. There was a gay bar and a laundromat open and in the laundromat they were showing these disturbing claymation movies on film where I zoned out for a piece. Out in the back of the strip mall was a lot of partying and dancing. We were back there getting high when Bam Bam rolled up on us in his decked out golf cart with a big platform and stripper pole on the front of it. Way later that night, it must have been some performers from a Vegas show came to the parking lot and performed these island dances with big drums and shit at like 4 in the morning.

All before I even dropped my bags off at pops house. :D

Yeah, the Trump trade war is having an effect. As I have said, companies would shift purchasing patterns to try and avoid the Trump tax (tariffs = taxes that Americans are paying on imports; taxes are slapped on by foreign countries on American imports in retaliation).

So Americans are paying for Trump’s trade war coming and going.

None of this enriches Americans. American businesses are the ones getting hurt.

Heck, even the tariffs on steel and aluminum are screwing American businesses because Trump doesn’t have a clue how the global supply chain works.

Slap tariffs on steel and aluminum imports and you might give a temporary boost to American steel and aluminum manufacturers, but they produce (and have capacity for) only a fraction of American manufacturing needs that everyone from durable goods manufacturers to car and motorcycle manufacturers are now paying 25% more for the raw materials critical to their production processes.

That 25% is getting passed on to the consumer. That means Trump’s tax is now a tax on your purchases. We’re paying more and Trump still thinks we’re winning.

Meanwhile, Trump’s still going on about conspiracies and how media is out to silence conservatives.

Here’s what we know.

Pecker killed any story that might be unfavorable to Trump. He buried it in this vault.

He also opened the floodgates on every lie, innuendo, and bogus claim about Clinton.

This was apparent all along, but we’re now seeing that the results from the Mueller investigation have finally gotten around to looking at all these incestuous relationships between Trump and his criminal cronies.

When the Enquirer spent all of its energy trying to claim Hillary was dying/sick/incapable of moving, when it was Trump who needs a golf cart to get around and that Clinton continued campaigning while having walking pneumonia, it had an ongoing tangible effect on the conversation and they were pushing on the scales against Clinton.

What mitigates all this is that even with the Access Hollywood tape, it didn’t stop Trump from winning - one can argue that the GOP rallied around Trump precisely because he’s their kind of bigot and misogynist and sex predator. That’s who they want. That’s who they want to be - they want to be an unrepentant bigot and misogynist who keeps women in their place (especially if that woman’s name is Clinton).

While things may appear grim, this is a great day for the Constitution. The Article I and Article II personnel have behaved disgracefully. But our Article III law-enforcement mechanism is doing its job.

This is half-time. We do not know what the Mueller investigation knows, what it has learned from Flynn, Popadopoulous, Gates, Van der Swan, Pinedo — who have all pleaded guilty. Nor do we know what, if anything, Michael Cohen has already told investigators. Or what White House counsel Don McGahn said in 30 hours of interviews with them. Or what Mueller’s team has learned from what we can sure is the scores, if not hundreds, of other witnesses they have interviewed. And, of course, there are the millions of tapes, computer files and documents seized in the Cohen raid, along with those handed over by Trump’s former lawyers.

Mueller can and likely will name Trump as an unindicted co-conspirator on any case he brings going forward, if he abides by Department of Justice guidelines and does not indict a sitting president. And Trump needs to worry about his criminal liability (and that of his son and son-in-law) when he leaves office.

Impeachment aside, given all that the President now faces, does anyone in his camp have the courage to discuss a so-far unmentionable strategy? Do what we did for Spiro Agnew, and the country. Negotiate a deal: You end the Mueller investigation, and I’ll send out of a tweet: “No collusion, I did nothing wrong, rigged witch hunt, but this is bad for the country, and I am a patriot. So I hereby resign. Sad.”

They don’t really go in depth but they touch on lots of stuff you never see on the other networks sort of like CNNs headline news channel which doesn’t seem to have an HD feed, and if you aren’t HD I aint watchin. Their newsreaders leave a lot to be desired though.

The first to go down were small fish (papadopoulos, etc) and every person after that was a slightly bigger fish. I think the next group to be looked into will be Stone, Page, Credico and Assange. They are the worker bees and did much of the dirty work possibly without much connection to Trump directly.

If Mueller ties them into Trump through Manafort or Cohen then Mueller can get them indicted. They are tougher, because they are part of the shadow organization that most likely don’t have a ton of ties to Trump directly. They will be tied most likely through Russian connections and Assange. But they fit, as their work was to help Big Don Trump.

Then he will move onto The Trump Crime Family® as the final take down having all the structure under them figured out as a RICO case. He won’t need to tie The Big Don directly as much as the figurehead of the family that benefited from all the crime.

Trump will scream as will his supporters: “There is no direct connections to Trump, maybe his kids and friends did all of this to help him and he never knew it! Whaaaaaaa!”

Just look at the Mueller indictment for the Russians: the more you are involved in the cyberdefense racket, the more amazing that document is. People and organizations that were just codewords before were given full names, and their activities were detailed like there was someone looking over their shoulder. It means that the West had their networks completely compromised, and I think it was designed to freak Russia the fuck out.

Like other enemies, they confuse an unwillingness to act with an inability to act.

I would bet the farm* Hunter thought he “deserved” these things. The means of acquiring them was right there in his wallet (though why he always carried the campaign credit card with him is open to question.)

Trump’s business is centralized in NY and NYC. That means that the NY AG and NY Dept of Tax and Finance are going to be tearing apart all of the Trump tax filings based on what the SDNY has identified to date. We’re talking multiple felonies.

You are correct. I didn’t want to get into specific European “tribes” to try to figure out where it all started. I was generalizing White as it seems to be used in the latest round of fascism.

A lot of “White” people today have no idea of the tribalism that existed in Europe and how it came to America where it has blended.

I wonder if they can even understand the hate from across a river and a couple hillsides away, like the Hatfield and McCoy feuds. Tribes.

It’s all the fucked up part of humans. Being schooled Catholic and hearing all those old religious concepts, I always figured “original sin” is you are fucked up because you are human. Humans can be hateful and dangerous. What are you gonna do about it is the correction from the sin.

Actually, they are human words for explaining the urgings of our intuition, or inner voice, or heart, or conscience. Depending on your choice of frame. Some folks don’t seem to have a sense of conscience. The President, for example.

As to the source of pre-verbal or sub-conscious intuition, well …

Your conscience was socially constructed. It could just as easily tell you to kill all the Jews to protect the fatherland and make you feel bad if you don’t.

past those couple of common constants, everything else good and bad are social constructs

There are things-in-themselves and there are judgements-about-things.

facts v what should we do about those facts

Human societies have had tens of thousands of years to codify those “shoulds” into “shalls” and “shall nots” and that those societies have hit upon similar rules and laws to smooth civil interaction is less a recognition that there are universal constants (good and bad) and more a recognition that there is but one constant and that is that we are all human.
