Well, if CNN wants to become the news network of both siderism, they will be 3rd place in the ratings.

The only thing Democrats and Republicans can agree on is that both-siderists* are worthless.

(*) genuine both-siderists, of course. Naturally the GOP approves of its large stable of supposed both-siderists whose only purpose is to shill for Republicans.

Trump’s fantasy here goes back to the dawn of political history. The demagogue always needs a threat to take over a democracy, and it’s much easier to find a threat in times of chaos.

It’s just another piece of evidence that Trump is fundamentally as totalitarian as anyone, up to and including Hitler. The only constraints on Trump’s actions are externally set limits from checks and balances that weren’t intended to be tested to destruction like this.

God knows there is nothing in Trump’s character that would deter him from genocide or other absolute evil in pursuit of a few seconds of ego gratification.

I’m not sure he thought his cunning plan all the way through, though. Real revolutions tend to lead to half the folks who came in with money, meeting Mme. Guillotine or ending their lives against a wall (largely depending upon the time period, historically, but I can imagine actual blades rather than firing squads due to the nostalgic feelings of the typical type who’s already revolutionary in this country).

I’m not sure it’s possible to get a revolution without dead rich folk, unless somehow the army remains totally loyal to the upper class but all the rules below it somehow still get scrambled?

I definitely concur. My original view was that the only differences between Romney and Trump were:
1. Romney was polite and spoke coherently.
2. He was loyal to his wife and not a philanderer.
3. His FP would be traditional; after all, he warned about Putin in 2012.

After his vote last week, it’s clear that the third item was in error. So only 1 and 2 apply to him.

Three boys, all vaccinated, including one that got the early chicken pox vaccine, two that got early versions of the HPV vaccines which required a booster earlier, and they are all doing fine. They have done the studies. Many times over.

You were sold a bill of goods by fear mongers, and the only thing they have to actually stand on is this effect, that they made something sound scary. You can make anything sound scary.

Don’t think so? Well I am here to tell you that it’s just absolutely crazy to ride around in an automobile. Do you really think you can control 3000 pounds of metal going 60, 70, 80 miles an hour with only 4 small pieces of rubber the size of your hand? Balderdash. Impossible.

My reactions may be a result of personal experience: one of my nephews was born with serious neurological problems: one pediatrician advised against the Pertussis part of the DPT shot, another pediatrician was fine with the entire combination and that was what was administered. My nephew had convulsions shortly after receiving the vaccine and suffered permanent damage. At that time (almost 40 years ago) there wasn’t the same type of guidance as today as to who should have medical exemptions.

My nephew had convulsions shortly after receiving the vaccine and suffered permanent damage. At that time (almost 40 years ago) there wasn’t the same type of guidance as today as to who should have medical exemptions.

Medical recommendations and contra-indications are based on actuarial studies and the doctors’ professional experience. It is impossible to say any medical procedure, drug or vaccine is 100% risk-free for all patients. We can say that for *most* patients something is *mostly* safe. That is all we can do.

It’s a question of weighing the risks of treatment or vaccination. Pertussis, as an example, is no longer as common in the American population as it was 100 years ago, because most people have been vaccinated against it. It is then harder to contract it “in the wild.” But the risk of dying from pertussis still exists, and we need to maintain the “herd immunity” of the general population to prevent outbreaks, so the CDC and most doctors recommend children be immunized against pertussis before they enter school. While adverse reactions can happen, those risks are far less than the risk of catching the disease, and potentially dying from it, and also spreading it to others.

Putting it another way. If 1 person in 100,000 has an adverse reaction to pertussis vaccine, it does not mean the other 99,999 should not have been vaccinated.

I’m sorry your nephew had a bad reaction. But questioning the wisdom of vaccinations in general based on one incident that happened 40 years ago is just not clear thinking.

Pertussis is a nasty disease, and children can die from it. Schools used to close and people would stay at home isolated from neighbors because of whooping cough outbreaks. The doctor could have reasoned the chances of the kid dying from pertussis were greater than suffering adverse reactions.

The last time I went in for a vaccination (yellow fever), the doctor I went to had similar concerns about the number of required vaccinations. And he was certainly not an anti-vaccer.

People are much more mobile than in the past, and there have been cases of travelers visiting other countries, and bringing otherwise “tropical” diseases back with them. I’m of the mind that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

re: #82 wheat-dogg, raker of forests, master of steam

The original pertussis vaccine (the “P” in “DTP”) was a live-virus vaccine, and there were a number (proportionally small of course) of bad reactions to it. That’s why they switched to the acellular vaccine (the “aP” in “TDaP”)…I thought more than 40 years ago. Problem is, the acellular vaccine is much less effective, so we need almost 100% vaccination rates to maintain herd immunity.

Did you think I was talking about my yellow fever vaccine? I sought it out even though it wasn’t strictly required. The doctor was speaking in general, about the sheer number of vaccinations children in CA are required to have — which he thought excessive.

Sorry, I misunderstood. Though my original point stands. With the number of kids coming from all over the world, and the alarming tendency of some parents for forgo immunizing their offspring, encouraging all those vaccinations is probably wiser than not. That said, I don’t know what CA requires. I recall KY had a fairly standard schedule of immunizations to be administered by age 7. My ex and I had several arguments about our kids getting them, and in the end I won, because the schools otherwise would have refused their admission.

One of my college students here had to stay out of school for almost a month, because she had chickenpox. Somehow she’d never had it as a kid, and she was not immunized as a child. She was pretty miserable for about two weeks. Her doctor said she had to stay home to prevent infecting her fellow students.

One of my earliest memories is standing in line with my parents to get the oral polio vaccine on a sugar cube. I can’t say how old I was, but I must have been younger than 5. It sticks in my memory I guess because there were so many people and kids lined up to get a paper cup with a sugar cube inside. We had sugar cubes at home, so why were these so special? My parents probably told me it was a special treat.

One of my first experiences in America was the polio vaccine. I was 4, they were giving shots at the county courthouse. I was adverse to needles so I tried to pistol whip the doctor with my cap gun that I carried in my holster. Then we had a sugar cube and sugar solution dose later.

So, this is happening. People are calling Trump hotels and asking if they are giving furloughed workers free rooms and meals. Naturally, the hotels are saying WTF? So, now the callers have upped the game by booking rooms and canceling at the last moment.

The flaw in this tactic is the hit on your credit card. The hotel will place a charge on the card, so you’ve cut into your available credit until the charge is canceled. Do it several times, and the credit card issue will flag it for fraud and lock you out until you can prove it’s you making the charges.

The decade length seems right too as I bet Lumpy and Stone go back to the 90’s or early 00’s. Jones was seen as a joke in most right wing circles until Obama.

Yeah; I can still remember when any mention of Alex Jones was banned over at Freeperville…..right up until around 2010 or so.

Just watched the CNN video on the arrest, and here’s my thoughts.

Trump has the FBI pissed. His constant denigration of the intelligence community AND his willingness to ignore every single security protocol since he was elected AND his (or his campaign’s) clear cooperation with foreign agents have them livid.

The FBI wanted the media to see this arrest. They want the public to see the arrest. They’re sending a clear message to Trump: we are coming after you and your cronies, and we will do it for the public to see, because you guys are criminals. So, someone high up the command gave CNN the scoop and/or permission to film the arrest.

Trump ought to sweating bullets now. He’s pissed off the wrong people.

Slate

Looks like it’s Roger Stone’s time in the barrel. The President’s old friend and longtime political adviser was indicted in the Special Counsel probe late Thursday on seven counts, including one count of obstruction of an official proceeding, five counts of false statements, and one count of witness tampering, according to the special counsel’s office. He was arrested Friday morning.

Oh, and in answer to your question, “Where is Jerome Corsi”?, here’s some live video of Corsi right now:

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. I’m sure everyone by now has seen that Roger Stone was perp walked from his house by the FBI. He’s being indicted on seven charges.

All of them bad.

The indictments also point to Steve Bannon as being the Trumpworld point person with Stone who was the go-between with Wikileaks.

This is incredibly bad for Trump (none of this is good for anyone in Trumpworld or the GOP, who just voted this week to try and avoid anyone primarying Trump in the GOP primaries that are coming up next year). There’s also indications that Mueller’s got more indictments ready to go over the next few weeks/months.

To recap, Roger Stone is a pal of Trump. They go back decades. Stone and Manafort are not only pals, but business associates who ran a consulting shop. They all got introduced to Trump by Roy Cohn. They all seem to abide by the AC/DC rule of dirty deeds done dirt cheap.

But Trump also was criming out in the open, as he was actively soliciting their help to go after Clinton (when he wasn’t going out of his way to solicit help from Russia).

Because they’re done playing nice - and don’t need to treat him as someone who can be turned into a cooperating witness with a plea deal.

They’re also searching his NY home he shares with Kristen Davis (aka the Manhattan madam):

I guess the official reason would be “flight risk”; Imagine the issue of trying to get him extradited from Russia or Ecuador…

Main reason was, as mentioned earlier, a big middle finger at Trump for his attacks on the integrity and reliability of the FBI.

re: #276 Dave In Austin

That’s a tweet that wont age particularly well. Not that Stone needs to cooperate.

Stone’s toast. He doesn’t have to testify and Mueller doesn’t need him to. Mueller’s got texts between Stone, the campaign, and Wikileaks that show the communications flowed from WL to Trumpworld (Bannon) via Stone.

The thing people always seem to forget is that there are many Trumpworld figures who “left” the campaign, but never left Trumpworld. They took up roles elsewhere in the organization or stayed in contact in ways that don’t make sense unless you realize that they were attempts to cover for more nefarious acts. Stone is just one example. He left Trumpworld, but then tried to ingratiate himself to Trumpworld by being the go-between with Wikileaks when they were doing their document dumps.

It’s always odd that people like Lewandowski and others left the campaign, but stick around in ways that don’t make sense, unless it’s to try and give plausible deniability to their actions on behalf of the campaign/admin.

Mueller’s keeping the powder dry on the more important conspiracy against the US charges because he needs to make sure that charges can stick, that the jury pool isn’t tainted, and that he doesn’t totally tip off Trumpworld to his actions (he’s treating Trumpworld like a criminal syndicate, for those who still aren’t paying attention).

Stone’s lawyer is more competent than Trump’s lawyers.

Stone has to know more charges will be coming, but the superseding indictments wont happen until other people are indicted first (Mueller’s building up to the big reveal). The arrest shows that Mueller doesn’t need Stone as a cooperating witness or cut him a deal at this point. Mueller has all he needs to put Stone away, and others that Stone talked to.

The question becomes who Stone was talking to and how soon the indictment drops against that person. Money says it’s Bannon.

Trump and GOP are breaking functioning government and putting national security and safety at risk.

The GOP and Trump own this fucking shutdown. Only McConnell can end it by stopping his covering for Trump. Put up the clean CR and let the caucus vote as they did in December.

Trump thinks the wall makes us safer, and shut down government to prove it. He’s stopped E-Verify, cut funding for investigations and prosecutions of gangs, including MS-13. He’s stopped paying USCG members. He’s stopped paying FBI officers (6 Trumpworld arrests, and get your 7th free). He’s imperiling all Americans and undermining our national security (and we have the receipts on the fact that his own officials overrode the reports that said Jared should not receive clearance - along with 30 others who Trump wanted but had no business being anywhere near classified info).

Everyone in Trumpworld owns this shitshow. Everyone in the GOP leadership owns Trumpworld as they’ve enabled and covered for Trump.

No more.

The FBI probably did think he’d do something irrational. His mouth, his big mouth is a major problem for Stone. It was just a couple days earlier this week when I was wondering to myself why Stone and Corsi had suddenly gone silent, and missing.

Jerome Corsi was just on Ari Melber’s MSNBC show on Wednesday night. He has said before he thought he would be arrested, I think he mentioned it again Wednesday. So, he has been out and about, but he knew he was on thin ice.

He apparently has spent time recently trying to get some separation from Stone. Apparently he has turned against Stoner, at least that is the way Michael Caputo was making it seem as there was some bad blood between the two of them on Ari’s show and it was all about Stone and Corsi at the Mueller investigation.

re: #78 Hecuba’s daughter

My reactions may be a result of personal experience: one of my nephews was born with serious neurological problems: one pediatrician advised against the Pertussis part of the DPT shot, another pediatrician was fine with the entire combination and that was what was administered. My nephew had convulsions shortly after receiving the vaccine and suffered permanent damage. At that time (almost 40 years ago) there wasn’t the same type of guidance as today as to who should have medical exemptions.

One of my younger cousins has three kids — first boy reacted very badly to his first and second vaccines. All of them have more than one allergy and have other medical issues. She didn’t finish the vaccine series for the oldest boy and hasn’t vaccinated her younger two. In her case, I understand the decision based on her kids’ particular problems. I still get irritated when she posts anti-vaxx stuff on Facebook, though, because her kids have to rely on herd immunity.

Individual experience does color one’s reactions. Part of mine are colored by a friend who is spending her life in braces or a wheelchair because she had polio as a child (and is only a couple years older than me). Also by my sister the children’s librarian who just had to explain to one of the young moms what ‘whooping cough’ is, and why she should take her two small kids to the doctor RIGHT NOW (and why she shouldn’t bring them to the library when they sound like that).

Understand that you might have questions. Still get antsy when people express vague worries in this climate, where there is way too much woo in cyber air and we’re seeing the real world consequences play out daily.

Yeah. One year, I was coming into O’Hare, and connecting with another flight. Bad weather along the Eastern Seaboard was wreaking havoc with all the flights coming into O’Hare, including the plane I was supposed to take.

I ended up staying the night at the airport Hilton. It was a mess. Airlines work on the just-in-time scheme, and one plane may serve several regional airports. One local delay, and the whole system falls to pieces.

If the regional ARTCCs are short-staffed, it means all flights through that corridor are affected. It means that flights have to be throttled to make sure that there’s sufficient spacing and the ATC that are available to handle aren’t overwhelmed by the flights in their airspace.

It’s going to get a lot worse, and it’s hitting the East Coast first, because of the density of flights here.

It’s also going to spread worldwide, as inbound flights may be held up, but it seems like ground stops to keep flights from getting airborne in the East Coast will be how they manage this for now.

Watch for other ARTCCs to have similar issues in coming days - Chicago, LA, Oakland, Miami, Atlanta, etc.

TPM’s got the skinny on how they did it.

CNN found itself in the enviable position of being the only network staking out Roger Stone’s Fort Lauderdale residence in the small hours of Friday morning, getting dramatic (and constantly looped) footage of FBI agents rapping on Stone’s door and yelling that they had a warrant.

While some whispered about a lucky tip, CNN shot down the rumors, insisting that their D.C. reporters had ears to the ground and detected unusual grand jury activity. The grand jury empaneled for Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe usually meets on Fridays. This week, they met on Thursday.

Crime and justice reporter David Shortell, who is based in Washington, D.C., said that “all roads lead to Roger Stone,” and he brought a cameraman with him to observe the Stone residence.

Accordingly, in a shutdown during the filing season, the IRS must except additional positions beyond those identified in the Non-Filing Season Plan. In the event the lapse extends beyond five (5) business days, the Deputy Commissioner for Operations Support will direct the IRS Human Capital Officer to reassess ongoing activities and identify necessary adjustments of excepted positions and personnel.

Note how they skip the little problem of what happens when workers who have missed several paychecks start to not to show up to work?

The Commissioner for Operations Support can dictate all they want, but they are not in a position to do much… other than order the human capital officer to fire those who don’t show up…. but then there won’t be employees trained to handle the work.

Those air traffic controllers are supposed to be working too… but as time goes by it is clear that some will not show up, or decide to retire (if they are able), use built up sick leave, etc.

There is no magic here - it takes people to get things done, and Trump doesn’t care.

There’s no way any business can operate when a huge chunk of the people who do the day-to-day work are suddenly not there.

Trump’s awful business acumen again comes into focus. He doesn’t care about any of this - he just thinks he’s winning and blaming others when he fails. He doesn’t negotiate; he extorts or bullies, and then folds when he can’t get his way. He’s boxed in by his own actions, and Mueller’s continuing to roll up indictments that directly implicate everyone in Trumpworld for malfeasance and criminal acts involving foreign agents and foreign powers (Russia among them).

The House can impeach, but impeach does not mean convicted. Clinton was impeached, the Senate just didn’t convict and remove him.

Separate issue.

Removal of members of Congress isn’t handled in same manner as impeachment.

Impeachment requires articles of impeachment by house and vote by Senate for removal. Impeachment applies to Executive and Judiciary.

Removal is handled in-chamber. House can vote to remove a Rep by 2/3 vote. Senate can vote to remove Senator by 2/3 vote.

OK. Yeah, each chamber can remove separately from impeachment. I was very focused on the impeachment issue, which can be done to Congresspeople, at least in principle.

Eric Thomas:

The Roger Stone FBI Raid Footage Is Already 2019’s Best Film

“…Even though this footage of a bunch of people running around in tactical gear looks like the Twitch stream of someone who is not great at Call of Duty, I have still watched it 20 times. They really sent in Seal Team Six to take down retired Batman nemesis Roger Stone, who, according to court records, is 600 years old and legally “more of a construct than a person at this point.” Stunning!

I also love the commentary that the anchors have to give to this murky outtake from Zero Dark Thirty. “This is just remarkable. He said ‘FBI! Open the door!’”

“What do you think that means, Jan?”

“Well, Chuck, I’m getting reports that these people are from the Federal Bureau of Investigations and they want—hold on… Yup, word is coming in that they want him to… open the door.”

“Astounding.”

“What you are watching here has never been seen before, folks.”

The footage, unfortunately, does not include the sight of Roger Stone padding out on to the lawn in his bedtime ensemble, which I assume is a custom three-piece pajama suit, steam-punk goggles for seeing the phantasms in the dark, and a Wee Willy Winkie hat.”

Credico has been on Ari Melber’s The Beat several times over the last year. He is close to Stone. But, Credico is slick and hard to pin down. was to emphasize two points

- clearly things arent running seamlessly (i didnt think i had to point that out)

“Person 2” is Randy Credico.

Raw Story September 7, 2018

“Credico says he didn’t talk to or have a relationship with Assange until Assange first did his radio show on August 25, 2016,” she writes. “He has emails that lend credence to his claim. By that date, Stone had already made a number of claims of contact with Assange.”

If there isn’t an off-script “dammit, this shutdown was supposed to stop the Mueller witch hunt, how dare they arrest my friend Roger Stone?” then is it really worth it?

“Because Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer are being completely unreasonable and I no longer wish to see our great federal workers suffer. I am going to endorse a three week continuing resolution to reopen the government. If I don’t get $7 Billion for the wall between now and then well…we’ll see what happens. Also, WITCH HUNT!”

From JRube:

But the president is a hair’s breadth from being implicated in collusion (or knowledge of collusion).

Important thing to keep in mind, in the law it doesn’t necessarily matter that you didn’t know something was illegal or unlawful (criminal vs civil distinction) but rather if you knew or should have known that something was illegal or unlawful. One would think that people running a presidential campaign from a major political party should have known that the stuff they were doing was illegal.

I’d have to go back and look, but I think that when there’s been an incumbent in the WH seeking a 2d term, the party tries to avoid any primary challengers. I consider that standard operating procedure. What’s insane here is that the GOP/RNC is tying itself to a corrupt and complicit criminal syndicate in the WH and are setting themselves up for a huge fail should the indictments really hit the fan in coming weeks/months.

And conspiracy doesn’t necessary require every participant in the conspiracy to know all the details. Trump could direct actions, and that’s sufficient to implicate him, even if he didn’t know the specifics of where/how/when, etc.

a 2-3 week solution would just ease pressure on Mitch and Donald

All the Senate needs to do is vote on a clean CR that the House already passed and sent to them a fucking dozen times. It’s not like the House needs to pass it again.

But I can definitely see Pelosi leading passage of a year-long budget tonight or this weekend and intentionally putting the screws on Mitch and Trump for three weeks. She can do that, they have no leverage.

Yeah, we were talking about this the other day. I just looked it up and I think the GOP did the same thing in 1992 and in 2004. Even with Buchanan running in ‘92 there were no Republican primary debates.

Hmmm, the reaction from official Trumpsters, including Trump, appear to be “The indictment didn’t specifically mention collusion with the Russians!”.

Nothing about the the actual charges, and certainly nothing about the “high-ranking Trump official” being “directed” by someone higher up.

From CNN:

There are still issues over the backpay provisions that any agreement would include, one source says. Once it’s passed, lawmakers would have three weeks to reach an agreement that addresses President Trump’s border wall funding request.

If they don’t reach a deal, Trump is expected to say he’ll invoke a national emergency.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure if the Congress rejects funding Trump’s wall, any national emergency he tries to declare will be dead on arrival in the courts. That would explicitly run against the ruling in Youngstown Steel that the president has no authority to act when Congress has expressly voted against his preferred policy.

re: #631 Eclectic Cyborg

Odds on Trump pardoning Stone?

This is what I’m calling a pardon trap.

Trump pardons Stone. Pardon means Stone can’t invoke 5A for actions he took, and must answer. It means he’d likely implicate anyone and everyone else around him, from Bannon to Trump and WikiLeaks (going up and down the foodchain in both directions).

That’s the risk Trump takes of pardoning anyone in his inner circle. Pardon short circuits Mueller in one respect, but opens the door in many others.

Say Trump pardons Junior or Kushner. Mueller could then haul both in and demand testimony about all their actions and they’d lose 5A protections on the issues for which they were pardoned. That could implicate others on the conspiracy, including their dad - or open them up to new charges entirely.

That’s why pardoning his way out isn’t a good idea.

Honestly, this is a cave by Trump. Especially if he invokes the “national emergency” stunt that will automatically be DOA at the first court filing.

Speaker Pelosi stood firm, as did Schumer. Schumer should be given more credit here as he not only forced Mitch’s hand on a vote yesterday for both measures, but did so in a way that the Democrats got more votes for a clean CR than Trump’s non-starter of a deal that he negotiated with himself.

This is capitulation by Trump. He caved and brought Mitch down with him. Pelosi has the power and the leverage to fight for a year-long budget with no wall, and the odds are bigly in her favor.
