1. Romney was polite and spoke coherently.

And while they won’t have a problem, I am getting close to the age where I need to start thinking about shingles.

Pertussis is a nasty disease, and children can die from it. Schools used to close and people would stay at home isolated from neighbors because of whooping cough outbreaks. The doctor could have reasoned the chances of the kid dying from pertussis were greater than suffering adverse reactions.

Pertussis is a nasty disease, and children can die from it. Schools used to close and people would stay at home isolated from neighbors because of whooping cough outbreaks. The doctor could have reasoned the chances of the kid dying from pertussis were greater than suffering adverse reactions.
The original pertussis vaccine (the “P” in “DTP”) was a live-virus vaccine, and there were a number (proportionally small of course) of bad reactions to it. That’s why they switched to the acellular vaccine (the “aP” in “TDaP”)…I thought more than 40 years ago. Problem is, the acellular vaccine is much less effective, so we need almost 100% vaccination rates to maintain herd immunity.

People are much more mobile than in the past, and there have been cases of travelers visiting other countries, and bringing otherwise “tropical” diseases back with them. I’m of the mind that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Sorry, I misunderstood. Though my original point stands. With the number of kids coming from all over the world, and the alarming tendency of some parents for forgo immunizing their offspring, encouraging all those vaccinations is probably wiser than not. That said, I don’t know what CA requires. I recall KY had a fairly standard schedule of immunizations to be administered by age 7. My ex and I had several arguments about our kids getting them, and in the end I won, because the schools otherwise would have refused their admission.

One of my first experiences in America was the polio vaccine. I was 4, they were giving shots at the county courthouse. I was adverse to needles so I tried to pistol whip the doctor with my cap gun that I carried in my holster. Then we had a sugar cube and sugar solution dose later.

Just watched the CNN video on the arrest, and here’s my thoughts.
Trump has the FBI pissed. His constant denigration of the intelligence community AND his willingness to ignore every single security protocol since he was elected AND his (or his campaign’s) clear cooperation with foreign agents have them livid.
The FBI wanted the media to see this arrest. They want the public to see the arrest. They’re sending a clear message to Trump: we are coming after you and your cronies, and we will do it for the public to see, because you guys are criminals. So, someone high up the command gave CNN the scoop and/or permission to film the arrest.
Trump ought to sweating bullets now. He’s pissed off the wrong people.

The President’s old friend and longtime political adviser was indicted in the Special Counsel probe late Thursday on seven counts, including one count of obstruction of an official proceeding, five counts of false statements, and one count of witness tampering, according to the special counsel’s office. The indictments also point to Steve Bannon as being the Trumpworld point person with Stone who was the go-between with Wikileaks.
This is incredibly bad for Trump (none of this is good for anyone in Trumpworld or the GOP, who just voted this week to try and avoid anyone primarying Trump in the GOP primaries that are coming up next year). There’s also indications that Mueller’s got more indictments ready to go over the next few weeks/months.
To recap, Roger Stone is a pal of Trump. They go back decades. Stone and Manafort are not only pals, but business associates who ran a consulting shop. They all got introduced to Trump by Roy Cohn. They all seem to abide by the AC/DC rule of dirty deeds done dirt cheap.
But Trump also was criming out in the open, as he was actively soliciting their help to go after Clinton (when he wasn’t going out of his way to solicit help from Russia).

Stone’s toast. He doesn’t have to testify and Mueller doesn’t need him to. Mueller’s got texts between Stone, the campaign, and Wikileaks that show the communications flowed from WL to Trumpworld (Bannon) via Stone.
The thing people always seem to forget is that there are many Trumpworld figures who “left” the campaign, but never left Trumpworld. They took up roles elsewhere in the organization or stayed in contact in ways that don’t make sense unless you realize that they were attempts to cover for more nefarious acts. Stone is just one example. He left Trumpworld, but then tried to ingratiate himself to Trumpworld by being the go-between with Wikileaks when they were doing their document dumps.
It’s always odd that people like Lewandowski and others left the campaign, but stick around in ways that don’t make sense, unless it’s to try and give plausible deniability to their actions on behalf of the campaign/admin.

Stone’s lawyer is more competent than Trump’s lawyers.
Stone has to know more charges will be coming, but the superseding indictments wont happen until other people are indicted first (Mueller’s building up to the big reveal). The arrest shows that Mueller doesn’t need Stone as a cooperating witness or cut him a deal at this point. Mueller has all he needs to put Stone away, and others that Stone talked to.
The question becomes who Stone was talking to and how soon the indictment drops against that person. Money says it’s Bannon.

Jerome Corsi was just on Ari Melber’s MSNBC show on Wednesday night. He has said before he thought he would be arrested, I think he mentioned it again Wednesday. So, he has been out and about, but he knew he was on thin ice.
He apparently has spent time recently trying to get some separation from Stone. Apparently he has turned against Stoner, at least that is the way Michael Caputo was making it seem as there was some bad blood between the two of them on Ari’s show and it was all about Stone and Corsi at the Mueller investigation.

My reactions may be a result of personal experience: one of my nephews was born with serious neurological problems: one pediatrician advised against the Pertussis part of the DPT shot, another pediatrician was fine with the entire combination and that was what was administered. My nephew had convulsions shortly after receiving the vaccine and suffered permanent damage. At that time (almost 40 years ago) there wasn’t the same type of guidance as today as to who should have medical exemptions.
One of my younger cousins has three kids — first boy reacted very badly to his first and second vaccines. All of them have more than one allergy and have other medical issues. She didn’t finish the vaccine series for the oldest boy and hasn’t vaccinated her younger two. In her case, I understand the decision based on her kids’ particular problems. I still get irritated when she posts anti-vaxx stuff on Facebook, though, because her kids have to rely on herd immunity.
Individual experience does color one’s reactions. Part of mine are colored by a friend who is spending her life in braces or a wheelchair because she had polio as a child (and is only a couple years older than me). Also by my sister the children’s librarian who just had to explain to one of the young moms what ‘whooping cough’ is, and why she should take her two small kids to the doctor RIGHT NOW (and why she shouldn’t bring them to the library when they sound like that).
Understand that you might have questions. Still get antsy when people express vague worries in this climate, where there is way too much woo in cyber air and we’re seeing the real world consequences play out daily.

Yeah. One year, I was coming into O’Hare, and connecting with another flight. Bad weather along the Eastern Seaboard was wreaking havoc with all the flights coming into O’Hare, including the plane I was supposed to take.
I ended up staying the night at the airport Hilton. It was a mess. Airlines work on the just-in-time scheme, and one plane may serve several regional airports. One local delay, and the whole system falls to pieces.

FAA delays appear to be due to staffing at ZDC/ZJX facilities, which handle traffic from ~MD/VA (up through PHL) down the east coast through mid-Florida. Things may get worse as the day progresses in other time zones…
If the regional ARTCCs are short-staffed, it means all flights through that corridor are affected. It means that flights have to be throttled to make sure that there’s sufficient spacing and the ATC that are available to handle aren’t overwhelmed by the flights in their airspace.
It’s going to get a lot worse, and it’s hitting the East Coast first, because of the density of flights here.
It’s also going to spread worldwide, as inbound flights may be held up, but it seems like ground stops to keep flights from getting airborne in the East Coast will be how they manage this for now.
Watch for other ARTCCs to have similar issues in coming days - Chicago, LA, Oakland, Miami, Atlanta, etc.

ATC has to make sure big planes and little planes don’t hit each other. Regional ATC centers route traffic between airports. Local ATC handles individual airports. Private jets occupy a different “layer” of airspace from commercial flights, but eventually everybody has to get low enough to land.

Yeah, we were talking about this the other day. I just looked it up and I think the GOP did the same thing in 1992 and in 2004. Even with Buchanan running in ‘92 there were no Republican primary debates.

Trump pardons Stone. Pardon means Stone can’t invoke 5A for actions he took, and must answer. It means he’d likely implicate anyone and everyone else around him, from Bannon to Trump and WikiLeaks (going up and down the foodchain in both directions).
That’s the risk Trump takes of pardoning anyone in his inner circle. Pardon short circuits Mueller in one respect, but opens the door in many others.
Say Trump pardons Junior or Kushner. Mueller could then haul both in and demand testimony about all their actions and they’d lose 5A protections on the issues for which they were pardoned. That could implicate others on the conspiracy, including their dad - or open them up to new charges entirely.
That’s why pardoning his way out isn’t a good idea.

Honestly, this is a cave by Trump. Especially if he invokes the “national emergency” stunt that will automatically be DOA at the first court filing.
Speaker Pelosi stood firm, as did Schumer. Schumer should be given more credit here as he not only forced Mitch’s hand on a vote yesterday for both measures, but did so in a way that the Democrats got more votes for a clean CR than Trump’s non-starter of a deal that he negotiated with himself.
This is capitulation by Trump. He caved and brought Mitch down with him. Pelosi has the power and the leverage to fight for a year-long budget with no wall, and the odds are bigly in her favor.
