Hey look, Fox News is finally acknowledging the gender gap!
wait a minute … pic.twitter.com/NZMpXVtgio— Lis Power (@LisPower1) March 5, 2019
A single company, Google, conducted a study of its own hiring/employment, and found that men were underpaid relative to women.
For that Fox goes all in as proof the gender gap doesn’t exist - or worse - that men are the ones underpaid.
Heck fucknuts, all employees are underpaid, especially relative to CEOs and ownership that reap in 200x what the average employee makes, which is a far cry from the ratio just a few decades ago of 20-1. CEO wages/compensation jumped while employee wages stagnated, even though it’s the employees who do the work of growing the value of the business and often lose their jobs even if the company shows profits, because they’re trying to goose profits while minimizing expenses.
But multiple studies show women underpaid compared to men. The gap also is worse depending on the region/state. Not surprisingly, CA, NY have lower wage gaps, but the south (excluding FL) has high wage gap.

No. There wasn’t. There might have been a slowdown in the increases, but that’s not the same thing, and that’s not what he’s arguing.
Drug prices are continuing to rise, and for every show cut as Lilly did with their cut to an insulin med, 96 other drugs saw price hikes.

Trump surrounded himself with criminals and cronies who would tell him what he wanted to hear, and would fix things for him regardless of the legality. That goes for every aspect of his business, and it carried into the WH.
Now he’s getting the first taste of oversight he can’t control or pay off (as may have happened as NYC prosecutors looked at bringing fraud charges against Ivanka and Jared over real estate fraud a few years back; a well timed/placed donation also ended Florida investigation into Trump’s scam school and Biondi is still in Trump’s corner.).
re: #47 Belafon
Then he shouldn’t have run for office.
To be fair: he initially believed he couldn’t win; he was doing it to boost his media presence. He certainly did everything during the campaign to lose the nomination: after all his insults to McCain and to Mexicans and his claim that he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue were not designed to get wide support. But despite all this, he won and now he’s doing everything possible to protect himself because he knows that any thorough investigation into his finances would bring his empire down.
re: #49 Dread Pirate Whitebeard
Kushner should never have been anywhere near the WH, even on the tour.
He failed his background checks, and he repeatedly omitted details from his SF86. Each of his submissions omitted details, and each omission is a felony as Rep. Lieu notes.
The only reason he’s not perpwalked so far is his father in law is Trump. Otherwise, he’d have been long gone.

Preferences
Tier One: Harris, Booker, Warren, Gillibrand (no order ranking yet)
Tier Two: Beto, Brown, Garcetti, Inslee, Castro, Klobuchar
Tier Three: McAuliffe, Delaney, Ojeda, Buttigieg; Hickenlooper
Tier Four: Biden
Tier Five (just go away): Bernie, Tulsi.
Out: Bloomberg
A couple tweaks from me:
Switch Beto and Booker because Beto’s ground game is just too damn good, and there hasn’t been anything from Booker yet that tells me that he can rally a huge voter base.
Switch Biden and Inslee - the only reason Biden’s not Tier One is because of his age, and he’s probably the best of the bunch who can round up the working-class white guy votes that proved to be crucial in 2016.

I agree with both of you. Far too many people, including Trump, played games thinking Clinton would win. Trump, Comey, Bernie, Stein voters. I know a lot of people have learned their lesson. Hopefully a few more will.
The true Bernie Bros and Stein voters I know have not learned anything. It’s Bernie or Bust for them.
I actually think Beto as VP candidate would be more helpful in getting someone like Hegar or Castro elected as Senator than he would be on his own, because that would be two strong pulls for Democrats in Texas rather than just one.
It’s pretty early to start making ranked lists, but I will make a decision: No money goes to anyone until the candidate is chosen. There is no sense in paying Democrats to kneecap Democrats, and the eventual winner will need it all.

“A legal theory that has long been whispered about by legal experts and veteran prosecutors has spilled out into the open… the possibility that Donald Trump and the Trump Organization are being investigated as a criminal enterprise…”
“Indicting the whole Trump Organization as a ‘corrupt enterprise’ could also help prosecutors address the thorny question of whether the president can be indicted in office; they could lay out a whole pattern of criminal activity, indict numerous players — including perhaps Trump family members — and leave the president himself as a named, unindicted co-conspirator. Such an action would allow investigators to make public all the known activity for Congress and the public to consider as part of impeachment hearings or re-election. It would also activate powerful forfeiture tools for prosecutors that could allow them to seize the Trump Organization’s assets and cut off its income streams.”
“The irony will be that if federal prosecutors decide to move against President Trump’s empire and family together, he’ll have one man’s model to thank: his own TV lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, who perfected the template to tackle precisely that type of criminal enterprise.”

??? What about Oprah?? Isn’t she a self-made billionaire — with no family wealth behind her?
pretty scathing:
Trump boldly asserts that he has learned nothing these past two years
“The president has made the denial of dignity to certain people and groups a political rallying cry. This kind of cruelty and dehumanization is the defining commitment of his political life. He is not merely undignified as a leader; he is committed to stripping away the dignity possessed by others.”
“There is a tie between incivility and injustice. When a president uses his office to demean others, he is undermining an essential democratic premise — that those out of power are still protected from abuse by general respect for their inherent worth and dignity. They are still partners in a common enterprise. And they deserve better than cruelty and contempt.”
what we’ve been saying all along
a ‘common enterprise’ is a clash of value systems, each of which is in some way valid; a competition between basically well-intentioned people who see the world differently, while accepting the validity of the other side.
- liberty and just for all means all or it means nothing
- James Baldwin: “We can disagree and still love each other unless your disagreement is rooted in my oppression and denial of my humanity and right to exist.”
- for our two party system to work there must be TWO principled sides working in good faith

I only caught the last bit of Nicole Wallace’s show, and she had Alyssa Mastromonaco (Vice Media) on and she said she had a worry that all of the Democrat candidates will take up all the money in the primaries and there will not be enough contributions for the general elections.
I think that can be an additional worry.
The other I have, and has been expressed by others here, is we get a popular but weak to the majority of Democratic voters candidate because the really good candidates take each other down. Sort of like with Trump.
And yes, I know there is a fear that opens the door to Bernard.
An acquaintance who hates Trump has confided he would vote for Trump over Bernie. I fear that there are many who share that view. Someone with a devoted base can sweep through the primaries when we are offered so many competitors.

All of Trump is projection.

Yep. If he accused someone of cannibalism, I’d expect it come out that he tried human flesh.
Trump can’t be underestimated but at the same time, I think he’s going to have a hard time as an incumbent. He might be the rare guy who benefits as a challenger with an empty slate over an incumbent.
If you would vote for Trump over any Dem candidate, then go fuck yourself. You are part of the problem.

My biggest worry about Bernie is that he gets a plurality, but not a majority of the delegates, loses to a non-Bernie candidate, then the Berniebros are outraged that the nomination was “stolen” from him and work to tear down the nominee. So I’m hoping Bernie does very poorly in the primaries.

It’s not the grades he’s hiding, those would be an easy deflection, especially since there are lots of successful people who weren’t stellar high school students. It’s the disciplinary records. Which means they are BAD. Like serial killer in the making kinda bad.
I would just like a Sanders supporter to tell me what about Bernie makes him presidential material. I really really think people too often want an ideologue and not a President and that is the reason why there were a lot of lefties that were disappointed by Obama.
The difference between Democrats and Republicans is that the contests in the primaries are proportional. As candidates drop out, they will throw their endorsement, and while that doesn’t necessarily mean they will support that candidate, I don’t think any will support Sanders. I also think a few wont even make it to next year. Some are going to run into financial problems early. And that’s why you should donate some in the primaries.

It’s all about the ideology for his supporters.
I said that the objections I had about him was temperment, flexibility of approach, ability to build coalition, crisis management and administrative ability. And he just dismissed it as word salad.
re: #129 NO SMOCKING GUN!
I don’t expect Bernie to do so well in the Democratic primaries. He didn’t perform so well last time. True he won a few states, but how many of those were just anti-Hillary votes?
This time Bernie is running against a crowded field, many of whom are unapologetically progressive. What will make Bernie stand out is how old he looks among them.

Didn’t he brag about hitting a teacher?
I think when he was still in primary school, and hitting his music teacher/tutor.

That like wise is the reason why you have a lot of right wingers who love Trump because Trump is an ideologue and not a President. I mean do I want my president to share my core values? Absolutely but I want him/her to have skills that go beyond their ideology and voting record and even agenda. I want to know that I can trust that person to make decisions. Obama even though he was just a freshman Senator in 2008 showed me he was worthy of that trust. Hillary three years ago ditto. Kerry and Gore also ditto. I just don’t feel it with Bernie. I see people who just want the most left wing candidate out there that can win and that’s not all that President entails. For example, how is someone like Bernie going to handle our role in NATO and as one of the EU’s biggest allies?

Not the youngest ever, just the youngest female. The Oculus guy was younger.
Some time in the next 6 months we will find out if Beto, Biden, and others, will also be running.
The right-wing hate machine will try to make it appear as a weakness, with so many candidates, but I think that will fail simply because there is a lot of interest in whoever is not Trump.
Trump is the hateful ego of the right wing made flesh. But he and they are so flawed that any Democratic candidate who is likeable in general ought to really stand out against them.

You know that’s another thing about Sanders. He’s really not particularly likable either. I think people confuse like Bernie with his ideology. Which I think is why while she’s a little similar to him, I do in fact like AOC but AOC has a lot going for her beyond ideology compared with Bernie. She’s considerably more intelligent for starters and much more grounded.

There have been rumblings.
Bill Weld is ‘exploring’ as of January, Larry Hogan under the ‘guidance’ of William Kristol is kicking around talking to people.
And never count out Ohio Johnny Kasich. He’s got the ego, thinks he was close last time because he was last man standing and probably will jump in if he sees Trump as damaged.
I bet Kasich is watching what is going on in Trumpland like we do. He’s like a buzzard that is circling just overhead waiting for some dead meat he can feast on.

Our primary here in South Carolina will be interesting. It gets a lot of press as “first in the South” and the candidates spend a lot of time here. (I get to see/meet Kamala Friday afternoon—yay!)
In 2008, Hillary took one county (happened to be mine), Edwards took his home/birth county and Obama took the rest. In 2016, Hillary took every county and won 73.5% of the vote. And yet, there were serious Bernieacs throughout the state throughout the election cycle.
I doubt Bernard will ignore South Carolina as he did in 2016, but I don’t see him doing all that well. There is still a lot of resentment about how he acted then among many of the core Dem supporters. I could be wrong, but that’s my sense of things right now.
2020 candidates and maybe candidates I’ve seen in person/met at some earlier time—Biden, Gabbard (yuck), Castro, McAuliff, Sanders (yuck), Delaney (yuck). We do get a lot of facetime with primary candidates, then they leave the state in a stampede and we never see them again.

The GOP had 17 people last time — and we ended up with Trump. Yes, except for Tulsi and Bernie, our candidates are better than theirs BUT they did have many with serious experience, while Trump was the only one with a cult following. If we have 15 people running and Bernie keeps getting 15% while nobody else gets more than 10%, so Bernie acquires the plurality — and when candidates drop out and endorse someone else, the BernieBros will go ballistic. We have to assume that those supporting Bernie in 2020 are a lost cause.

I like Jay Inslee, he’s my Governor, and I’m sure he’d do fine as President (Low bar any more….), but I see him more as a comfortable VP choice to balance a “flashier” Presidential candidate—sort of like Tim Kaine in 2016.
I have no facts to back this up. It’s just my gut feeling. I believe the Kaine pick hurt Mrs. Clinton because it added zero enthusiasm to her campaign. I say “hurt” rather than “didn’t help” because she needed some energy and that pick did not provide any.
I hope whoever gets the nomination this time picks someone who adds fire to the cause.

I was being sorta snarky
Or so I thought. ;-)
re: #170 Decatur Deb
In this part of Baja Alabama if someone is young, white, energetic, and a Democrat there is an excellent chance they’re a Bernie Kid. And their effort is very welcome.
Here, at least last time around if they were young, white, energetic and MALE, they were for Bernie. He had some young women, but Hillary had some serious support in that group.

Thanks—got it. Trying to find out if anyone here knows where in SC it took place etc. Pretty interesting.

I wasn’t able to figure it out. He’s with Anvil Strategies.

(On the other hand, maybe I’m falling into the old general’s trap: preparing how to fight the last war.)
Just my two yen.
Who would have inspired that kind of enthusiasm in 2016? Other than Bernie? who may have gained certain voters but probably not?

On the Doug Jones campaign I worked with a young Indivisible organizer (f) who had been with Bernie in 2016. My midterm boss was a 23 yr old. She ran the sub-district campaign for about 7 counties, still flew Bernie’s 2016 bumper sticker.

I both understand this as an attribute and hold it with a bit of contempt, as we’re picking a person to run the country, not a President Feelgood.
I’m cold and calculating when picking a candidate; unfortunately that’s not his others do it.

Even if Kaine was Captain Charisma, there’s no VP pick in the world that would have helped combat a nearly three-fucking-decade smear campaign against HRC by Republicans and Fox News.

The only place I see them as a vendor was for a primary candidate in Pennsylvania in 2018. I sent the thread to a few of my connected peeps here to see if they know anything about it.
I worked with a lot of former Bernie people too. So I don’t dismiss he’s got legit appeal to people but I likewise think his supporters don’t see his flaws.

LOL, that is the understatement of the day.
My Bernie Bro neighbor who has fully descended into full blown conspiracy theory is exactly like that.

Yeah I’m being generous. My brother did admit that the lack of transparency about taxes is a problem today. I really think even though he’s fairly far left, Bernie’s appeal to him was that he wasn’t HRC.

Gonna disagree. This is not just about inconveniencing a couple of companies.
Trump reportedly ordered the DOJ to take retaliatory action against a company that owned a news network that reported things that displeased him.
That is a direct, in-your-face assault on freedom of the press and freedom of speech.
It is terrifying. It is banana republic dictator shit.
So yeah, it is a flagrant abuse of power, an abrogation of his oath of office…and a pretty damned big scandal. This one thing alone would sink any other POTUS. It should constitute immediate impeachment hearings in a sane environment.

Indivisible, at least here, was not as obnoxious as Action Together (and Our Revolution), where most of the Bernie peeps showed up. They were mostly young Dems who didn’t really want the Dem label, but wanted to dictate what the Dems should do. Sigh.
In the midterm House race here, AT and OR backed the primary loser (who had run in 2016 and lost) and were INCENSED that he did not win the primary. INCENSED, I tell you—they were still yapping about it two months after the election.

They were happy to inoculate (N.B. not “vaccinate”) against smallpox because a 5% chance of dying from the inoculation was enormously preferable to the 1 in 3 chance of dying of smallpox….
re: #160 MsJ
Left to his own devices, I don’t think he’s going anywhere.
I will say this, though: He has supporters on DK that currently none of the others are matching. Fans of some of the other candidates need to show up on liberal blogs more.

That’s what I’m dealing with here. It’s un-fucking-real. This guy is in his mid-60s and is whining like a child that the only way Bernie could lose is because his Jesus candidate was cheated.
These people are just like the MAGAts or the QAnons screaming about the Deep State, yet are absolutely blind to the irony they’re creating.

Indivisible was cool here, though I declined the offer to start a local. Our county Dems are mostly black and honest, but old and not very energetic, so I work with them. The state Dems are marginally worthless. Many of us are self-organizing or moving from one new progressive group to another. That redundancy and inefficiency keeps me from Indivisible.

When was there a 5% chance of dying from a small pox inoculation? It appeared to be 1 to 2 deaths per million.

Once the Lancet study was withdrawn, there was nothing else to hang any science on. That was when I wrote off any credibility to the anti vaxx/thimerosal side.
re: #199 Hecuba’s daughter

Again, this wasn’t “vaccination” with vaccinia (cowpox). It was “inoculation” with pus from smallpox patients. The virulence of the virus was attenuated by passing through one host, but it was still a pretty dangerous procedure.
Tweety had Omarosa as a guest. She may be as dishonest in her way as Trump, but she always appears composed, eloquent, and knowledgeable about all things Trump. In this interview, he asked her whose testimony Trump would most fear and her response was Rhona Graff, Trump’s long-time executive assistant, though both Chris Matthews and she agreed that Rhona would probably plead the Fifth. Sounds like she may know where all the bodies are buried.

One of the biggest mouths in our Action Together gang has, as her twitter header “xxxx is not voting for a centrist in 2020,” says she’s not a liberal, and earlier today posted ” Tear the whole system down and start over. IT’S NOT WORKING.”
Stirring up as much trouble as they can, time and time again.

So she’s a socialist and both centrists and liberals are too milquetoast for her; she would prefer Trump because that will bring the Revolution —- NOT!
