These bills aren’t just being passed “by design” they are being passed according to over 30 years of planning and propaganda designed to undermine America as a secular democracy and to rebuild the stronghold of white Christian (mostly male) supremacy.

It’s important to realize they will not stop at overturning Roe. Because they have not just been talking about **this exact moment in history** all this time, but they’ve also been saying what they really think about non-Christians of all types in private… and its scary.

I will be attacked by fellow conservatives for saying this but so be it, this Alabama abortion ban is too restrictive. It doesn’t save life, it simply forces women into more dangerous methods, other states or countries. You don’t encourage life via blanket government mandate!

Once the Flynn tape is investigated, the conspiracy to obstruct justice will begin. Whoever talked to him him is going to prison. Whoever asked *that* guy to make the call is going to prison, etc.
If Nunes, for instance, was the caller, is he going to happily go to the gray bar motel for Drumpf, not revealing whoever asked him to do the “favor”? Is the guy who asked him to do it going to fall on his sword? Once you start drilling down, you’ll eventually get to the Tangerine Shitgibbon.
Flynn knew he was fucked, and accepted his guilt in affecting the election.

Mass. teacher accused of planting live ammo at school, then calling police
A Southbridge teacher is accused of leaving ammunition in a school stairwell Thursday morning before calling police to report it.
Southbridge police said high school biology teacher Alfred Purcell III, 57, of Woodstock, Connecticut, reported to staff that he had just found one live round of 9 mm ammunition in the rear stairwell. The school was placed on lock down.
During the lockdown, police and Southbridge High School staff reviewed video footage and saw Purcell removing the live round of ammunition from his pocket, dropping it on the floor and quickly leaving the area, police said.
About 10 minutes later, the video shows Purcell standing over the ammunition and taking a picture of it with a cellphone, police said.

You know, the more evidence that comes out showing that Trumpworld and GOPers in Congress obstructed justice on behalf of Trump (and perhaps at his explicit direction), the solution in the hands of the House is apparent:
Impeachment.
Impeach the fucker and refer the matter to the Senate to remove him from office. The evidence is clearly showing Trump engaged in widespread obstruction of justice and interfered in the ongoing investigations. Everything he’s spewing this morning on Twitter is because he knows something worse is about to drop.
His pattern is to tweet endlessly when bad news drops, because that’s how he thinks to deflect, deny, and obfuscate to take attention away from the additional bad news.
Let’s not forget, just hours ago we learned that Flynn was contacted by multiple people in Trumpworld and Congress to try and interfere with the investigation, and there’s at least one voice mail to that effect.
NAME the NAMES.
Let’s know who got caught obstructing justice on behalf of Trump and begin the process of indicting the fucker. None of these people should be above the law, despite Trump and Barr doing everything they can to do precisely that.

Do those folks know that there are elections this year? Are they registered to vote for this year? There are important local and state elections this year.
Every election matters. All elections matter, not just the presidential year ones.
The GOP needs to be thwarted and defeated at every level, precisely to stop the kind of misogynistic batcrap insane fuckery they’re engaging in at the state level in Alabama, Georgia, Missouri, Ohio, and elsewhere with the express intent to overturn Roe and knowing full well that these laws they just enacted would be unconstitutional as per Roe or Casey. Heck, they’ve even admitted that the laws they just enacted are unenforceable because there’s no way to do what they proposed.
That’s how insane the situation is, because they know that if somehow these laws get to the Supreme Court, they’ve got a stacked right wing extremist bench that will give them the holy grail of overturning Roe/Casey, and it wont be long before other civil rights and voting rights are directly attacked.
We’re already seeing the voting rights across multiple states under attack because Roberts overturned key provisions of the VRA despite the factual evidence showing that there’s still need for enforcement actions. The GOP controlled Congress refused to act to restore the VRA and provide new guidance, so we are watching the states where Democrats can be poised to gain seats in Congress or retake legislatures enacting new provisions to thwart voting access. Voter suppression methods are what the GOP is doing to make their changes permanent (coupled with the loading the courts with right wing extremists).

He’s been meh… universal pre-k is a big feather in his cap, but he’s been awful most everywhere else. There’s a huge housing scandal at NYCHA that culminated with the feds getting involved (yeah, it was that bad). They lied about lead abatement/testing, and kids were found to have high lead levels.
There’s also his failures on Vision Zero (reduce pedestrian fatalities) by not prioritizing mass transit sufficiently. Mass transit is actually controlled by Gov. Cuomo, and the two have been at odds every step of the way. But DeBlasio hasn’t done enough within his control to improve things, like prioritizing buses/mass transit on streets over cars, and his fights with Cuomo subvert everything else he might be doing.
[The] new debate criteria set by the Democratic National Committee was also factor. Not only was the stage opened to 20 candidates, but the qualifying standards were set extremely low: Candidates had to reach either a very low polling threshold or get 65,000 unique donors, metrics that are both objective and largely out of the hands of party actors. Usually, winnowing happens early on when candidates try and fail to win encouragement from party actors. This time, however, candidates can simply focus on reaching a qualifying goal rather than assessing the reaction they got from party officials or key politicians.
Wouldn’t it be great if Sanders’ changes caused the demise of his unique white guy status?

re: #103 lawhawk
Gotcha. I’m not a huge Cuomo fan tbh but at least he gets crap done. DeBlasio just seems uninterested in governing and I really distrust politicians like that.

Going in, I thought Cuomo would be good, but he’s been awful. He thinks he’s the next Robert Moses - complete with making all of the same Robert Moses mistakes, including refusing to build out mass transit when doing various bridge projects, and he’s basically screwed the MTA at every opportunity, all while blaming everyone else when the MTA screws up (he’s ultimately the only one responsible for the MTA by law).

INTERACTIVE MAP: See Your Texas School District’s Vaccination Rate
In 72 school districts across Texas, less than 90% of kindergartners have the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, according to data provided by the Texas Department of State Health Services and analyzed by News 88.7.
The data includes coverage levels for a variety of required vaccines, such as polio, chickenpox and whooping cough (pertussis). Coverage levels represent the percentage of students who have received each required vaccine for the 2018-19 school year.
The rates here in my home district (Palo Pinto ISD) are a disaster waiting to happen, with an average of all the recommended immunizations of 66% for kindergartners. I have to confess that I haven’t paid much attention to local public health advocates, but it is time to start.

His statement goes to obstruction of justice - itself a crime.
He’s pushing this Infowars style bulkshit precisely to try and deflect/dodge from Mueller’s report, which explicitly addresses Trumpworld criminality and misconduct that would result in indictments but for DOJ policy.
Barr’s acting as Trump’s personal lawyer, not the top law enforcement officer of the nation, and now thinks conspiracy theories is the way to go to solve Trump’s legal woes.
I have a better solution. Democrats should impeach, and then let Trump try and spew this conspiracy bulkshit all while Democrats show how everyone in Trumpworld and the GOP was complicit in the criminal misconduct from Trump on down, including now Barr and others that actively sought to interfere in the Flynn case.

Because they don’t care - the point is to try and get courts to say it’s valid and overturn Roe.
But here’s the rub. They are admitting that the law is unenforceable, which means that they’ve stirred the shit and rallied their base, even though everyone knows the law will never be effective as the courts should strike it down on it’s face.
They’re hoping to get enough of these enacted that all it takes is one version to get through the gauntlet to the Supreme Court. With enough right wing extremists entering the bench thanks to Trump/McConnell, the odds increase that they’ll ignore the facts and move to overturn Roe anyway.

I hadn’t been paying a whole lot of attention to the Flynn stuff, including who was source:
Last night Robert Mueller’s prosecutorial team - which apparently still exists on some level - made a court filing in the Michael Flynn case, despite the fact that it wasn’t under obligation to do so, and it wasn’t even close to being up against any deadline. The filing revealed that Flynn witnessed Trump and his underlings commit several crimes. This in turn prompted the judge in the case to order that far more evidence of these crimes be publicly released soon. This, of course, wasn’t coincidence.
With his filing yesterday, Mueller is essentially unredacting the most important pieces of his own report by force, in a way that Attorney General William Barr can’t stop. If Mueller had publicly testified on the 15th as originally planned, would he have been legally able to discuss the Trump crimes that Flynn witnessed? But now that Mueller has found a way to force the Flynn stuff into the public purview, there’s nothing that Trump and Barr can even try to do to stop Mueller from testifying about the Flynn stuff

The leader of Austria’s far-right Freedom Party has been filmed offering to trade public contracts for campaign support, German media reported Friday.
The revelations could bring Austria’s government to breaking point amid growing tensions between the far-right party and its coalition partner, the Austrian People’s Party of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.
The secretly recorded footage of Heinz-Christian Strache, Austria’s vice chancellor and leader of the Freedom Party (FPÖ), was taken on the Spanish island of Ibiza before the Austrian election in 2017, according to Der Spiegel and Süddeutsche Zeitung, which obtained the video from an unnamed source.
It shows Strache, alongside fellow FPÖ politician Johann Gudenus, speaking to a woman claiming to be a wealthy Russian citizen who said she wanted to invest in Austria, apparently with money of dubious origin.
The encounter, which lasted six hours, appeared to be a trap for Strache, according to Der Spiegel and Süddeutsche.
The woman offered to buy a 50 percent stake in Austria’s Kronen-Zeitung newspaper and switch it to a pro-FPÖ line. In turn, Strache said he could award her public contracts.

I hadn’t been paying a whole lot of attention to the Flynn stuff, including who was source:
I was pretty surprised to read that it was Mueller’s team who let that revelation drop - and that they did it fully within the law.
Throughout the investigation, people had been saying that if Trump tried to obstruct the release of the report, Mueller would have a way around it. It’s looking now like his team gamed this out, expecting that Cult 45 would go to the wall to keep the report from going public.
I expect more information to be released in this manner. Mueller does have a few cooperating witnesses who were in Trump’s inner circle, and the release of further information like this will not only make Trump and his co-conspirators look bad, but also those who have tried to keep his findings from the public.
Barr, Graham, Nunes, Jordan. We see all of you.

Is there a source for the analysis and implications of this other than the Palmer Report? I haven’t caught up.
re: #192 jaunte
Like so much else, it all amounts to a lot of projection, but like so much else, the projection works. They convinced the discourse as a whole that the problem is them not being treated gently as humanly possible, and our discourse responds in like, treating the GOP like their walk on sacred ground and their opinions are perfect crystallized democracy, and that the only solution to everything is“PUNCH MORE FUCKING HIPPIES!!!”
And as it ever was, they get treated like perfect little princes just for breathing, complete with assumed Divine Right of Rule.
re: #208 Decatur Deb
Not sure I’m seeing an argument in those terms. As a generalization, a social or political response won’t occur until after an outrageous abuse of any sort is dramatically aired.
It’s because the loudest outcry on this law has been focused on the fact that it does not have exemptions for rape and incest, not that it is in itself a denial of all women’s civil right to full agency, implying that the whole of it isn’t so much a problem. By putting the bulk of the argument on the lack of exemptions, doesn’t that ultimately weaken the argument by just continuing the slut shaming?
Pete Buttigieg gets a lot of things right. But he’s making a huge mistake letting people like Hugh Hewitt and Fox News use him.
I know they won’t, but Democratic candidates should put up a united front that they won’t tolerate Fox News’s malevolent agenda any longer.— Charles Johnson (@Green_Footballs) May 17, 2019

Because no good deed ever goes unpunished and the worst of us are all that get to succeed in this country. Jim Jordan will continue to be a Congressman, and an influential ‘trusted’ one at that, while everything burns around us, GOPers blame us for the fire, and lefter-than-thous simply sage nod and wait for the perfect house to just spring up in the ashes afterwards.

Alabama Republicans are just barely stupid enough to run Roy Moore again. In case they do, I’ve signed up for Jones’ volunteer list.
Oklahoma Lawmaker: Men Must Approve Abortion; Women Are ‘Hosts’
Oklahoma state legislator Rep. Justin Humphrey is sponsoring a draconian bill, HB 1441, that would require a woman to get written permission from her sexual partner if she wants to have an abortion.
Attempting to justify the despicable legislation Rep. Humphrey told The Intercept that women have no right to bodily autonomy once they are pregnant because they are merely “hosts”:
I understand that they feel like that is their body. I feel like it is a separate — what I call them is, is you’re a ‘host.’ And you know when you enter into a relationship you’re going to be that host and so, you know, if you pre-know that then take all precautions and don’t get pregnant.

Not even hiding it anymore because they know they don’t have to. They can be as vile as they can be publicly and be rewarded even more than before for that openness, because everything fucking sucks.
.@SarahforHD134 & @ChrisGTurner are talking about the incompetence of anti-choice Heidi Group that was forced to give up state money for failing to meet its goals. Background: https://t.co/man3XWePRO #txlege #SB22
— Mary Tuma (@TumaTime) May 17, 2019
“…The Round Rock-based group is headed by Carol Everett, a longtime anti-choice activist and author who led a network of crisis pregnancy centers, non-medical faux clinics tasked with persuading women against abortion care. It’s not the first time Everett’s group has seen taxpayer funds; their CPCs have won thousands from the state under the Alternatives to Abortion program. The Heidi Group has since been rebranded as a group that offers minimum health services. Last year, Everett told the Chronicle some of the state funds would indeed flow to CPCs.
Making her an even less qualified recipient, Everett has a curious understanding of basic health facts: During a state hearing on an anti-abortion rule, Everett claimed that humans can contract STDs and HIV through the water system.”
Scammers and loons, parasitic on an ignorant State legislature.
re: #224 Shiplord Kirel, Friend of Moose and Squirrel
So if women are “hosts” as this tool is suggesting, does that mean they’re hosting a parasitic lifeform inside them? You know, like a good many sci-fi/horror flicks.
Just curious.

I haven’t seen any. And I tend to take Palmer with a grain of salt.
But the Mueller team’s filing speaks for itself. It was done through the courts, so that cuts off Team Treason from screaming about a leak. It directly refutes one of the main talking points that Trump has been harping on for literally years. And it makes Barr look like the partisan hack he’s always been.
Smart play. And I don’t think this is the last move like this we’ll see.

And if that relationship is that of rapist/victim?
