Did Trump break the law by doing this? Probably.

Does he give a shit? No.

Will anything negative happen to him as a result? No.

Will the GOP demand a Hurricane Dorian memorial be erected in Alabama? Probably.

The keyword search for this post says it all: lying sack of shit.

Trump is a lying sack of shit, and doubles down on the lies. Even worse, his sycophant advisers double down for him, and cover for his clearly identified lies.

Who used the Sharpie? Who went along with this bulkshit? Why?

Trump can never apologize for anything when he’s clearly wrong. He thinks it’s a sign of weakness, but it shows that he’s a sociopath who cares only about “winning” when he’s clearly lost. He is a reactionary know nothing, and his advisers tell him what he wants to hear, not what he needs to hear.

What’s worse is that Dorian is hammering the Carolinas as a Cat 3 storm, and Trump’s still fixated on trying to claim that his clear lie was no such thing (even the NWS in Birmingham AL said AL was not impacted by Dorian in its forecast advisories moments after Trump made his bogus claim).

Trump puts people in harm’s way and creates chaos with everything he does. He’s a danger to the nation, but the GOP is fine with this. Fuck Trump and Fuck the GOP for this.

Another Tory minister is standing down at the next election (whenever that’ll be):

Fourteen years ago, my intention was to serve in Parliament for as long as my constituents continued to elect me. However, much has changed since then. Politics is now dominated by the ongoing division over Brexit. More happily, my private life has been changed profoundly by the birth of my two youngest children.

I now feel that it is time for me to make a change and embrace a new challenge. After a very great deal of thought, I have decided not to stand again as a candidate at the next General Election.

“I’m sorry, he did WHAT?”

“You’re serious?”

Don’t believe the hype.

As it stands, there’s less than 5% of the GOP caucus in Congress that are women. That number is likely to fall further. There’s a reason that the party is white and male. It’s a white nationalist party with a penis problem (hence the need for all the gun-humping).

What does Ivanka have that Pence doesn’t provide.

Pence brings the evangelicals and Christian Taliban to the table.

Ivanka brings her breathless barely audible nonsense and awful fashion sense.

Pence brings some measure of knowledge about the political process.

Ivanka has clothes made in China.

Pence has…

Practically he can’t remove him at all. Unless he voluntarily resigns Pence will be VP until January 20th, 2021. If Trump wants to run with someone else instead then Pence’s continued presence in DC will be awkward, to say the least. If Pence caves to Trump’s demands and resigns then both chambers of Congress must approve Trump’s nominee to replace him, or else Nancy Pelosi becomes first in the line of succession.

It’s the kind of donkey balls plan that only Ivanka and Jared could come up with.

Does Trump have the power to remove Pence if he wants?

Well, technically, it’s up to the Republican Party: they don’t really HAVE to renominate him (or even Trump, for that matter) - but in practical terms, yes: it all depends on how much the Party wants to kiss their candidate’s ass. Which as far as today’s GOP is concerned, is “totally”….

Though I think the last time a VP was involuntarily replaced was 1944, when FDR sacked Henry Wallace, and replaced him with Harry Truman.

Looks like they’ve polished the writing and the storyline up a bit. The first season was OK, though it started pretty sluggishly. But then I think back to the first season of Frasier, which started off sluggishly too but then really hit its stride starting in its second season.

The VP is the linchpin in any invocation of Section 4 of the 25th Amendment. Even if he can’t get a majority of the sitting cabinet members to go along, and he almost certainly can’t, the potential threat go public with that assessment gives Pence mutually assured destruction ability.

Don’t forget, he also has receipts.

Ever hear the backstory on how they created the Judoon?

Apparently, Tennant has a hard time keeping his screen accent from slipping from his on screen “northern” English accent to his natural Scottish accent when faced with words ending in “-oon”. So the writers, to tease him created an entirely new species with a whole language based on “-oon” but mostly so Tennant would have to say “a whole platoon of Judoon upon the moon.”

Also that episode introduced the best companion since the relaunch (don’t at me, you know I’m right).

He lied, and then lied more to cover for the initial lie, and people gave up fact-checking because Trump just overwhelms the senses with nonstop lies.

from yesterday’s electoral-vote.com, four good possible explanations

…seems like Trump is getting sloppier and sloppier about lying, about conflicts of interest, and about bad optics…. and at least a dozen other impolitic moves in the last month or two that we likely would not have seen two years ago (even though the administration has always operated under relatively low standards for such things). Maybe Trump has gotten complacent, since he’s gotten away with so much for so long. Or maybe he’s tired, or is otherwise in decline, and is investing even less effort in playing politics. Or maybe life in the bubble has left him further disconnected from reality than he already was

Sure, but let’s be honest, the VP job is mostly worthless and ceremonial at best. Unless they’re breaking a tie in the Senate (not likely), they’re job is mostly to occasionally check on the health of the president and give some speeches.

If there’s a vacancy, the tie breaking issue would be, well, an issue. But otherwise, nothing much changes unless he chokes on a Big Mac. In which case it is Madam President, but Pelosi, not Ivanka.

That’s not what Section Two of the 25th Amendment says.

It clearly states: “Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the PRESIDENT shall nominate who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.”

There is no time limit regarding the nomination process, nor does it give the Speaker the power to assume the office if the president drags his feet on nominating a replacement.

The Speaker would be on very dangerous ground if she used that line of reasoning.

if you think you ‘need’ (fears, threats) to carry a gun to walmart, etc then something’s wrong.
if you don’t feel an actual credible ‘need’ and do it anyway, then something’s really wrong.

We’re packing for a month of tiny-trailer camping in bear country. We’re leaving the guns at home in the safe—the risks don’t justify the hassle.

in 2016, trump got approximately 92% of the republican vote and 45% of the total popular vote

52% against and only 75% of the R vote can’t be good

I don’t think we’ve ever come close to someone losing the electoral college while winning an outright majority of the popular vote. 52% is just short of what Obama won in 2008 and what GHW Bush won in 1988 (they were both right around 53%).

re: #80 A Three Hour Tour

That’s not what Section Two of the 25th Amendment says.

It clearly states: “Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the PRESIDENT shall nominate who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.”

There is no time limit regarding the nomination process, nor does it give the Speaker the power to assume the office if the president drags his feet on nominating a replacement.

The Speaker would be on very dangerous ground if she used that line of reasoning.

However, if the President does “drag his feet” on a VP nomination, the Speaker is still next in the line of succession. And that would still be Madam Speaker Pelosi.

The Tories are already a minority party, are only in control because the social conservative Irish DUP joined them in a government. And with Boris kicking 21 MPs out of the Tory party, Boris’ party is way down in numbers.

Boris is a mini-Trump. His command of English is much better than Trump, but otherwise he’s no more able to govern than Trump.

I would assume the party would have another vote for PM if they were able to form a government.

More fun question, if he resigned, would he be entitled to a seat in the House of Lords as a former PM? (I assume they still do that) Even though he’s had the job for ten days?

a couple of quick points:

- financing is ‘trade secrets”? in what world?

- when trump says . “I have the mortgage” i assume he means the “note” - ie the IOU. then again why assume anything…

- “Debt parking can be permissible as long as the borrower intends to repay the loan. Parking debt indefinitely with no intention to repay it, however, violates federal tax law, according to tax experts.”

the problem with debt parking, as with most tax schemes, is that it requires the taxpayer/reporter to basically be honest. Or the irs to ‘find’ it. otherwise, yeah, you ‘get away with it’. like speeding in the middle of the night when there are no cops around.

“The transaction that Donald Trump did with the lender was a discounted payoff and not a purchase of the loan—I know that for sure,” a person involved with the deal tells Mother Jones.

if that were the case, I wonder did the bank issue 1099’s for the forgiveness of debt? if not, why not? how does the bank not protect itself here? there should be a paper trail because not filing 1099’s falls on the bank, not the recipient, and those penalties go on for a long time.

Pence: The minute the UK is out of EU, the US is in

The US Vice President has tonight pledged a free trade deal with the UK “immediately upon the completion of Brexit”, saying Donald Trump stands “shoulder-to-shoulder” with the new Prime Minister.

Speaking at a black-tie dinner at Guildhall in the City of London this evening, Mike Pence told business chiefs the country was like a phoenix rising from the ashes, and “on the verge of what your new Prime Minister called a golden age”.

[…]

Pence is using the language of demagogue dictators, the overly flowery words to cover up the ugliness underneath.

Yes, she’s still in the line of succession, but she’s not automatically sworn in if there’s a vacancy in the Vice President’s office, never to be dislodged.

She serves as ACTING Vice President, as Speaker Carl Albert did in 1973 between the resignation of Spiro Agnew and the confirmation of Gerald Ford, in line with the 25th Amendment.

The reason a man wants to open carry is he wants YOU to “feel” it.
Just like colors. Affiliation. Connection. Just like a T shirt talking shit. All the many ways.
So them fuckwads who strap up, they know that.
They felt that.
They want that.
You feel that?
Like the dick walking around with a Bluetooth shoved in his ear and he’s not working.
Or the proud father of that new cell phone who wears it on his belt. Or the loudmouth bagging about who gives a fuck.
See that? I got that. Mine.
Half the people I see strapped, I could take out in a heartbeat with a plate, bottle, belt.
You get the idea.
And I’m old.
And if something does break out?
Is that fucking Marshall Matt Dillon?
Fuck no.
They could kill me with a backfiring car nearby.
Eff them.

It’s a backdoor effort to force an election. Under the Fixed-term Parliaments Act, if the current gov’t loses a no-confidence vote, then a general election must be held unless Parliament then passes a vote of confidence in the gov’t within 14 days. Boris likely figures that either outcome benefits him: Either he gets a snap election or he gets the opposition to grant confidence in his leadership. So even if he loses the vote, he wins because an election will be called.

Simple way to understand it is if Trump were impeached, and then when the vote in the Senate came, every Senator abstained or voted “present” rather than voting “yea/nay.” Functionally the result would be that he’d avoided removal from office, but the implication would be that the case was not strong enough to support conviction.

Speaking of iPhones, we discovered something unexpected about The Older Boy because of one.

You know how the iPhones all come with those nice little earbuds? You know, the ones held in place by the way everyone’s ears have that notch between the tragus and the antitragus?

His ears don’t seem to have the antitragus. Earbuds just fall out.

Not sure what to make of that…..

Mrs. FBW got an iPhone 7, and after looking at the airpods that came with it, we figured one would get lost, and more than likely Dory would chew one up.

So The Older Boy offered to drill a hole in the case for her……

Luckily, she remembered the video he’d shown her the day before.

The U.S. Education Department rejected 99 percent of applicants in the first 12 months of a revamped student loan forgiveness program, according to government watchdog report released Thursday. Ironically, the program had been expanded last year to help students who were already struggling to qualify for loan forgiveness.

The report by the Government Accountability Office says there were 54,184 completed applications between May 2018 and May 2019 for the Temporary Expanded Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (TEPSLF). Out of those, 53,523 were denied and only 661 were approved.

At least he can wear earbuds. The last time I did ended up with a fungal infection, and it looks to be somewhat common to our family’s physiology because somehow my sister had the worst bacterial infection of her life after some got in beneath her ear wax and multiplied. I for one have worn only over-the-ear headphones since, so as not to introduce extra microbes to the biome.

Fair enough, but I haven’t lost mine, yet. Knock on wood.

I have two aftermarket ones, plus a splitter, because I accidentally murdered the headphone jack on my 6s and was trying to restore a wired connection for headphones rather than dealing with Bluetooth lag until I got a X or greater.

Didn’t work because the 6S lacks the driver to recognise the splitter’s effect, so I could either be wired or charge but not both.

However, I’ll also be trading it in as soon as T-Mobile ends support for my Sprint-spec 6S, and was always planning to stay iOS at that point (as well as go on my parents’ plan, which should save me 40 bucks a month).

Today is Teresa of Calcutta’s feast day, and I had to chew someone out, not once, but twice, for saying that Teresa was the epitome of sainthood and holiness. I was blunt—if Teresa is an example of Christ, I want nothing to do with that Jesus. It wasn’t merely that her houses of the dying didn’t treat people properly, it was that she glorified pain and suffering, especially the pain and suffering of the poor. (But she got the best of health care, painkillers and all, when she required it.) And she was quite willing to do sketchy things for her large donors. I remember how she wrote a letter to the judge in the Charles Keating case, asking for leniency. She had her picture taken with John-Roger Hinkins, the now-deceased leader of the MSIA cult. But just the way she glorified pain and suffering instead of relieving them in some way! It goes without saying that she was anti-divorce (except for Princess Diana) and anti-abortion.

Sorry to rant, but I don’t consider Teresa to be a saint or holy. Do work in the world, relieve pain and suffering, don’t worship it, don’t encourage it!

I’ve read it. I was very careful NOT to base any of my ranting on Hitchens, not because I don’t believe what he wrote, but because he was a public atheist and people think he was biased. What I really wanted to rant about was the Lancet article from 1992, where Robin Fox visited Teresa’s homes and found they weren’t doing the basic stuff, like reusing syringes without sterilizing them, but that article is not easily available.

Did you all see this article?

It’s about a woman named Jennifer Talbot, from Ohio, who was caught trying to smuggle a six-day-old baby through customs at Ninoy Aquino airport in Manila. The baby was concealed in a sling bag, and was apparently discovered AFTER she’d gone through security but before she’d actually gotten on the plane. The authorities said that she wanted to get the baby a name and a blessing and that she hadn’t regularized the baby’s travel papers because something had come up at home and she needed to get back. The baby’s parents have also been found and it looks like all three may be up on human trafficking charges.

The man told investigators that the money had been lost. He later killed himself, the warrants said.

Back in… I want to say 70’s? Maybe it was the 80’s? A plane full of marijuana went down in Yosemite. Park staff went hiking, filled their backpacks. It was DAYS before anybody reported the exact location of the downed plane to authorities….

Makes a kind of sense if he means calling nazis “far right” takes us in the direction of normalizing them.

Yep. I agree with Decatur Deb’s take. It’s a slippery slope — by calling them “far right”, you are shifting the Overton window so that eventually they are merely “right”, and their viewpoints become part of acceptable discourse.

@CREWcrew has found at least 250 administration officials have made at least 630 visits to Trump properties.

David Farenthold was on Fresh Air today, talking about that, and the undocumented immigrants working at Trump properties that were dumped when someone started looking.
