Colbert: Trump’s Valet Tests Positive for Covid-19 as His Campaign Prepares to Deploy Their “Death Star”

Politics • Views: 21,640

YouTube

The President won’t be photographed wearing a mask, won’t push states to follow the White House’s own reopening guidelines, and is waging a war on information as he prepares to launch a bizarre “Star Wars”-inspired phase of his reelection campaign. #Colbert #StephenAtHome #StarWars

No, it’s worse. Trump is famously terrified of disease but is so lost in magical thinking that he thinks he can just order his people to keep him safe while also getting angry when they wear masks because it exposes the cognitive dissonance on reopening. Pence is just a toady, trying to stay in his insane boss’s good graces.

In March, Congress boosted unemployment insurance so that people could stay home and not catch the coronavirus currently killing a thousand Americans a day.

But now, as governors lift restrictions on commerce even amid the mounting death toll, some people are losing eligibility for the benefits ― before receiving a single dime.

That same day, [Gov] Hutchinson [R-AK] announced that more businesses could reopen ― including massage therapy. And state Secretary of Commerce Michael Preston said anyone claiming unemployment who refused to return to their job could get in trouble.

“That’s a fraudulent claim for us, and we will be tracking that,” Preston said at a news conference with the governor.

Just got back from a grocery and dispensary run.

At the grocery store, I’d say about 30-40 percent were not wearing masks (including a couple of employees), the one-way isle arrows were largely ignored (although the store was not crowded), and social distancing was a bit lax. Good news, I got flour!

At the dispensary, almost everyone was going maskless (including ALL of the employees). Last time I was there (about a month ago) all the employees were wearing masks and gloves. The women serving me coughed, to her credit she stepped back and coughed into her elbow, but still wear a fucking mask. The were limiting the number of the people in the store but social distancing was very lax.

If everyone’s a warrior, I don’t want to go into battle with any of them.

Easier explanation: Donny was so desperate to get a “win” that he was willing to believe whatever BS Xi floated him if the idle threat that calling him on it would mean a resumption of the trade war. So he praised Xi, he gave him whatever supplies he demanded, and he handicapped any agencies that were sounding the alarm about Xi’s duplicity because he wanted to believe that CV-19 was a minor virus that would be gone in a matter of months.

I don’t wish ill health on anyone, but damn, why doesn’t this guy just take his Silver Solution he was peddling?

Jim Bakker Had A Stroke (Allegedly) And It’s YOUR FAULT (Allegedly) (Wonkette)

Jim Bakker’s wife posted to Facebook the following:

As a family and staff, we continue to fight the good fight of faith and take a stand against the evil forces and hatred that has come against our ministry.

In Jim’s words, this has been the most vicious attack that he has ever experienced.

Yes. The most vicious attack he has ever experienced. In his whole life. Including when his good buddy Jerry Falwell called him “the greatest scab and cancer on the face of Christianity in 2,000 years of church history” — which was saying a lot, given The Crusades … and Jerry Falwell himself.

Bakker continued, explaining that the “vigorous warfare” Bakker has had to engage in against various attorneys general and the media (like us!) took a toll on his health and somehow led to him having an actual stroke.

As I saw one person note in the thread, it’s plausible he was totally in the dark about the whole mess. A relatively unimportant staffer getting fired months after she was hired, the only reason I could see informing him is if she was making noises about doing something that could reflect negatively upon the office. Hell, that would be all the reason one would need to keep it quiet, just to avoid the possible scandal if others found out.

It’s clear that he has no fucking clue what the fuck he’s talking about because that’s not how fucking testing fucking works.

Testing repeatedly shows that you’re not infected, until a test returns a positive result, when you have it.

You don’t have a cold until you do.
You don’t get the flu until you do.
You don’t get covid19 until you do. And when you do, it can kill you. And you can spread it to others and not even know that you’re a carrier if you’re asymptomatic.

But don’t fucking worry. It wont pass to Stephen, because it doesn’t cross to fucking ghouls.

When President Trump changed his official residence to Mara-a-Lago in Palm Beach it created a legal mess, the Washington Post reports.

“The property is taxed as a private club — not as a residence, according to Palm Beach County property appraiser records. Trump’s own attorney assured local officials in Palm Beach before they voted to approve the club in 1993 that he would not live there.”

Trump may soon be forced to make a choice: “Stop operating Mar-a-Lago as a club and make it a single-family home again or change his official domicile to someplace else.”

Dr Lizardo  May 8, 2020 • 1:00:22pm

Well, I guess everyone probably saw this coming.

J.C. Penney is preparing to file for bankruptcy protection as soon as next, week with plans to permanently close about a quarter of its roughly 850 stores, becoming the latest major U.S. retailer to succumb to fallout from the coronavirus outbreak, according to people familiar with the matter.

A bankruptcy filing would cap a long decline for the iconic 118-year-old department store chain, which struggled with a nearly $4-billion debt load and competition from e-commerce firms and discount brick-and-mortar retailers even before the pandemic’s onset.

The Plano, Texas-based company, which employs nearly 85,000 people, is in discussions with creditors for a so-called debtor-in-possession loan to bolster its finances while it navigates bankruptcy proceedings, the sources said. The loan could total between $400 million and $500 million, some of the sources said.

The timing of a bankruptcy filing could slip depending on how much time it gets from creditors, the sources said. J.C. Penney skipped a $17 million debt payment Thursday and only has five days to make good on it before defaulting. A 30-day grace period on a $12 million payment the company skipped April 15 ends next Friday.

Come to Nebraska. Governor Ameritrade reopened all of them. He won’t catch a communicable disease shopping in a mall, because he wont go to one.

He was asked in a presser the other day after re-opening restaurants a few days ago if he would take his family out to eat soon, and he said he looks forward to it, but not right now (coward).

No, he knows what he’s talking about here. If we test, it can’t go away. If we don’t test, it goes away.

Daily IL c19 stats: IL is testing almost 20,000 a day, still turning up over 2,000 new cases a day, and deaths still over 100 per day. My county is still zero, one of three in the state. But the cases keep climbing all around, 1 or 2 daily per county in this very rural part of the state. But it is slow enough that they are keeping the hospitals in pretty good shape in most areas, although I would bet it is tough in the poor areas of Chicago, Rockford, Peoria, etc. Of course, red area legislators are screaming at the governor, and taking him to court, and gun-toting idjits are strutting around in small numbers. The polar vortex might convince a few of those idjits to stay home and inside where it is warm!

So due to some unfortunate circumstances I’d rather not get into, I ended up on a longer than planned lunch break today while out errand running.

Once of the places I visited was a very busy Wal-Mart. Now mind you, this is just one location on the Southern Gulf coast, but I made the following observations as I shopped:

- I’d estimate there were at least 250-300 people in the store. It was the busiest I’ve seen this particular location since early in the outbreak (when everyone was panic buying). Additionally while employees were around, no one seemed to care much how many people were coming into the store.

- I’d say about 40% of folks in the store were wearing masks and of those wearing masks 90% were either older people or minorities, or both. (I was wearing a mask)

- Social distancing was a real mixed bag. Some folks were making efforts but a good number did not give a shit. I saw one group of about seven people tightly clustered together in one of the aisles.

- Most people gave no shits about the new one way aisles.

- On the plus side, just about everyone I saw seemed calm and relatively respectful so I guess that’s something. Also, I was able to get pretty much everything I needed.

That case filing people are waving around doesn’t say anything close to what Daou, Vogel, etc. insinuate or flat out claim it does. It doesn’t state anything about an assault. It doesn’t even say Biden himself is the source of the hostile workplace.

Also:

Trump’s switch to Florida also tossed a quirky legal puzzle into the mix. Trump — who has traveled to Mar-a-Lago repeatedly as president and has referred to the club as his Winter White House — has said that he voted by mail in Florida’s Republican primary last month. Florida law requires voters to register using their “legal residence” addresses under penalty of perjury.

What would happen to his voting status, some of his adversaries in the dock fight have begun to wonder, if Palm Beach declares that he doesn’t have the legal right to use Mar-a-Lago as his official domicile?

How many coronavirus tests have been given in Horry County? DHEC isn’t tracking that
When asked for a breakdown of testing by county or area, a spokeswoman for the state’s Emergency Response team responded that she doesn’t believe that information is available.

“However, we know that rural and underserved areas that don’t have easy access to testing tend to have lower numbers of cases due to a lack in testing in general,” she wrote in an email.

Horry County, with 242 confirmed coronavirus cases through Thursday, has one of the state’s highest populations but one of the lowest rates of confirmed cases.

Local officials have expressed concerns about lack of testing, but no one appears to have numbers to back up those concerns.

To be fair, the Libertarian Party has mostly been an a “political education/outreach organization” rather than a “winning organization”. If they were actually focused on winning, they would be focused on building up their base of local/state elected officials — you’re not going to get a good base of Federal or high State level politicians without first having local experience (at least without name recognition otherwise). All of their well known nominees were defectors from the Republican party like Ron Paul, Governors Johnson and Weld, and _Bob_ Barr..

In what other party could a candidate for the Presidential nomination named Vermin Supreme actually win a state?

With unemployment at its worst rate since the Great Depression, and deaths from COVID-19 still rising in most of the country, President Trump argued Friday that Americans should not hold him responsible for the calamity on his watch,” the Los Angeles Times reports.

Less than six months before Election Day, Trump’s new campaign message — don’t blame him -- is a risky bet that voters will credit his efforts to fight the pandemic and revive the moribund economy, and not hold him accountable for the administration’s much-criticized response and the 75,000 U.S. deaths so far, the most of any country

Pharmacy: For some reason Tricare says they still won’t pay for my wife’s Metformin and test strips until tomorrow. The pharmacist said he would only charge her the co-pay and just put in the claim tomorrow. He says business is way off due to deferred doctor visits, but with the governor restarting most elective surgery and dentistry, he expects business to pick up next week.

Gasoline: Regular unleaded is selling for $1.69

Both motels in town are closed. All restaurants are closed except Burgerwerx (carry-out only) and Karette Drive-Through (picnic tables or drive-through only).

Grocery store: Fully stocked except for sanitizer and wipes (exhausted). Everyone now has all the toilet paper they need for the next five years, anyway.

Liquor store: After the sellout run on rum for a couple weeks (I don’t get why rum and not other liquors), they are stocked again (I was very low so that was a good development).

Butcher: The special order of T-bones was waiting for us and wrapped individually. We also picked up a couple other steaks and deli items. He hired a new person to replace the woman who died last week on her sixtieth birthday. She died in her sleep; her death is unrelated to the epidemic. (My wife points out my sixtieth birthday is in only a few weeks, I’d better not follow her example.)

I’ve not seen it fully stocked since the shelter-in-place effort began. Same for the frozen dinner aisle, though there were some frozen pizzas delivered overnight, but only a remnant was left.

I gather this is now life for the next few months. Today in San Diego county some businesses were allowed to open for curbside service (though I still wonder how the furniture stores can be curbside.)

The Market has spoken and the mass blast out purporting to speak for it says goodbye to the exurb mall business model.

In its place: Maybe those graveyard malls can become red light districts/ tawdry experience centers .

Pro: enclosed contained space with separate spaces for gambling drugs and non trafficking sex industry Usually Far away from places where people live and usually good entry and exit control possible based on most enclosed mall designs

Con. Kill the memories of people who hung out there in childhood

Hell of a gauntlet to get an Orange Julius

This is based on humanity, technology or virus behavior coming through and enabling public spaces once again, which is not a sure thing by any means.

The Pentagon Says Iran No Longer a Threat, JM Ashby

To say that Iran is no longer a threat now is more or less a misnomer because what we’re really saying is that Trump got bored with it. Trump doesn’t have time to pretend Iran is a threat right now.

It’s not that I’m complaining; we never should have ordered American forces to Saudi Arabia. But I think this exposes that there was never a significant threat in the first place and American troops were deployed for political purposes that are just no longer applicable.

Republicans will make a huge stink out of it, but the next administration should try to salvage the nuclear deal.

I don’t accept this aversion people have to wearing masks. By now, anyone who expended even the slightest effort could have them. IMO wearing a mask at times like this is, in addition to its practical effects, a sign that we’re trying and we’re in this together.

That’s probably what the right despises so much about wearing masks.

I’ve seen articles saying that facemasks are now becoming a political “virtue signal” as whether you wear them or no.

What I didn’t understand today in town why shopkeepers and employees weren’t wearing them, and nearly everyone on the streets or in shops were.

The demise of retail stores proceeds apace. A lot of malls are about to become graveyards apartment complexes.

Easy peasy redevelopment for anyone with the cash.

Solid exteriors, load-bearing walls and pillars inside, already there. And elevators and escalators. They already have all the water, sewage and electrical hookups. On-site grocery store, plus a couple of restaurants, maybe a Fed-Ex/UPS/printing shop and a dry-cleaner. Bus lines and/or subways already go there. Parking lots are big enough for two spaces per apartment, plus a generous visitors’ lot, and still enough room left to put in a pool and tennis court and gym.
