Chester County, PA COVID-19 stats as of yesterday:
Confirmed cases: 1926 (+20)
Total tested: 9049 (+177)
Deaths: 187 (+3)

I wonder if the big hop in Saturday’s data was a report of something that comes in weekly. Or might simply had reflecting a delay from some event of new cases cropping up. Doubling rate currently is at ~19 days. (But with the usual caveat that testing is not widespread and thus probably actual cases are under reported, perhaps massively.)

Most every move Trump makes is aimed at the increasingly smaller base of his party. And his party hates Obama with a fiery passion that burns hotter than a million suns, so it’s no surprise that he thinks this is a great idea.

Speaking of drive-ins, they were cheap entertainment. You could pack a carload in and pay one price. My parents had a station wagon and that was a thing to do on a Friday or Saturday night. The local drive-in would play double features-first a kiddie movie, and then a serious adult movie. Kids were supposed to fall asleep after the kiddie movie. That didn’t always happen. I remember watching Patton from the back seat of the station wagon, when my parents thought I was asleep.

Alternately, we went to the dirt track races over at the Antioch (CA) Speedway on Saturday nights. It was another one of those “stuff many people into a car for one price” things. This was back when Nascar was still a very regional, very Southern thing.

My parents did the best they could with the money and time they had to give us a decent childhood.

Grocery store report: went in the morning, which is not my custom, in the hopes of finding things that have long been disappeared off the shelfs.

Not much success.

Though the store, I was told, gets deliveries on Sunday, today still very bare on frozen fruit. Still very bare on many items in the frozen dinner aisle (especially pizzas.)

However, the one big surprise was name brand paper towels. Only 2-paks, but of the brand and type I wanted. I expect the two shelves of them will be gone by sundown.

All that’s on the toilet paper side of the paper aisle were a few rolls of the singles, the ones made in Mexico that the locals here appear to not to like.

This new normal I do not like.

Republicans have problems with programs that help anyone who is not wealthy. No Republican House would propose anything comparable to Nancy’s bills. They are fine with bills that explode the deficit by directing funds to the already wealthy — but if the poor and working classes (and the middle classes) are the primary beneficiaries, they are actively opposed.,

And we poor liberals in the middle of the country would be left to fend for ourselves. That’s okay, we’ll die for California liberty.

I recall reading somewhere about someone once saying we shall all hang together, or we’ll surely all hang separately.

Wingnuts would love to invade California, and that would give them the opportunity. As I recall, California does not have an army or militia, but they have a fuquetonne of conservatives within their borders. If California seceded, it would be torn apart from within.

‘Russian trolls’ promoted California independence (BBC, 2017)

Social media accounts with ties to Russia pushed a huge Twitter trend in favour of an independent California on US election night 2016, BBC Trending has learned. The campaign was one of at least two popular online independence drives with links to the Kremlin.

It was a surprising development on a surprising night. In the early hours of 9 November 2016, shortly after it became clear that Donald Trump would be the next president of the United States, the hashtag #Calexit hit Twitter’s list of top trends.

re: #83 PhillyPretzel

I am just as confused as Ms O’Brien.

Bill Gates is building a dozen vaccine factories (because each of the current research projects if they succeed would need a specific unique factory configuration with a specific unique set of equipment), so that if/when one of them has good results in their clinical trials and we know which one to pursue, they can start manufacturing immediately. And all the other buildings would then be repurposed.

It’s a more expensive way to go, but it would save about a year and that vastly outweighs the cost of the ones that won’t be used.

So today Trump wants you to know that there are both good and bad sides to wearing masks and not everyone agrees about the importance of testing.

Why are news networks showing this again?

And we poor liberals in the middle of the country would be left to fend for ourselves. That’s okay, we’ll die for California liberty.

I recall reading somewhere about someone once saying we shall all hang together, or we’ll surely all hang separately.

Wingnuts would love to invade California, and that would give them the opportunity. As I recall, California does not have an army or militia, but they have a fuquetonne of conservatives within their borders. If California seceded, it would be torn apart from within.

There are a WHOLE BUNCH of legit heavily armed vatos who would not sit idly as the rednecks use them & their families for target practice.

“President Trump was pushing to get out in the public eye in recent weeks and tout his leadership during the pandemic, and White House staff thought they had hit on the ideal event: a presidential visit to thank the Pennsylvania factory workers who had recently taken herculean steps to ramp up U.S. supplies of protective equipment,” the Washington Post reports.

“But after extensive back and forth, factory officials ultimately asked to postpone, worried that a visit from Trump could jeopardize both the safety of the workers and the plant’s ability to produce special material for masks and other medical gear.”

And goofy idiots see that and are saying ‘we’ve flattened the curve!’ Except no, the point was not to reach the flat point of the curve. It was to ‘flatten’ it as in stretch it out so the peak never reached this high to begin with. And we failed at that, miserably.

This is just the curve refusing to crest, and that’s not a good sign at all. It means, more than anything, that we probably have more cases that we can’t report because the numbers are limited by testing limits.

Well the idea was to make sure the peak never exceeded the hospital capacity. In that, so far we have succeeded. NY got stressed but there was never a point where there were not enough beds and ventilators available for patients. Of course the lower the better.

Since Trump hasn’t been able to do rallies, he’s found a new hobby - being a complete and total dick to reporters (especially the women) during these press briefings. The only reason he keeps doing them is to try to fill the empty void with his peevish behavior. Unfortunately for us, Trumpers love it. To them, the bigger the asshole the more manly (or something). Fuck Trump and what he’s unleashed in our country (and I’m not just talking about ‘rona).

https://www.militarytimes.com/opinion/commentary/2020/05/09/many-low-income-military-families-need-snap-but-cant-overcome-an-eligibility-hurdle/ (Navy Times)

The same sort of fuquery as done under the Reagan Administration regarding food stamps for low-income enlisted personnel, but with a twist.

The way income is calculated for food stamps if you are in the military includes special allowances (such as uniform allowance, Basic Allowance for Quarters, &c). These allowances are not income in the usual sense; the housing allowance is paid if you cannot get base housing. Commuted rations is another, paid if you’re not eating in the mess hall/chow hall.

For the purposes of food stamps, these allowances are being added as “pay” even though they are not, making most low-income enlisted personnel ineligible for food stamps.

The opinion piece recommends that an explicit exemption for those allowances be added to the next coronavirus relief bill, because many military spouses have lost their jobs and enlisted personnel are being driven into poverty.

This also represents a national security risk as well, since poverty-stricken people with security clearances and access can become enticing targets for espionage.

A little poem I wrote earlier:

I HAVE TO PUT THE MASK ON

I’m not much for concealment.
I prefer to fight in the open.
But this an enemy I cannot see.

So I have to put the mask on.

I don’t like hiding from you dear.
I’ve always been an open book.
But I’ve sworn to protect you.

So I have to put the mask on.

It’s not exactly stylish,
and it pinches near my ears.
But I see danger around me.

So I have to put the mask on.

Someday this will all be over.
We’ll dance without any fear.
But right now it’s about survival.

So I have to put the mask on.

Arrested Dallas Hairdresser’s GoFundMe Launched Before She Even Reopened (Texas Monthly)

Her stunt was planned and she expected to get shut down to grift off credulous conservatives.

This does not appear to be the case with the Castle Rock grift, though I imagine if the fundraiser is pulled, GoFundMe will need to be monitored to ensure new ones which pop up are also pulled down over the owner’s lawlessness and refusal to comply with orders (isn’t that what conservatives demand of alleged criminals?)

Turning the election into a referendum on Obama vs. Trump would seem to be one of the dumbest possible moves for Trump

Which of course is why he will do it.

I know we always talk about how lucky we are that Trump is generally incompetent, but can we just take a moment to consider what any of us would be like to have his luck? The guy has stumbled ass backwards into just about every opportunity he’s had in life and managed to continually fail upwards in a way that defies sense or physics.

My wife’s Etsy shop for the masks she designed. Three layers of fabric, chosen for effective filtering and comfort and the straps are more comfortable than rubber bands.

Just ordered a couple for my dad.

That GoFundMe needs more fraud reports for the asshats in Castle Rock, Colo.

The amount is now raised is $2,300.

Behind the privacy bar is the account:

M31l4kBUFsJ1uUqfYQ4gEkjVhrE8Etu+sfiSqly9m2T3XZddlj/pfbdTKS7u9E/NJ6QfY8BNNB1zVueBamQoZtBzPBXY/1q/YeDWgbaBrMY=

“Fraud” is the category GoFundMe says to use on their report page for raising money for criminal activities.

You will be required to give the URL of the fundraiser, your E-mail if you have no account there, and your telephone number. I intentionally broke the link to the fundraiser here (replace the word dot with a period).

“The numbers are coming down very rapidly all throughout the country” — Trump lies about coronavirus case numbers and casts doubt upon models projecting that more than 100,000 Americans could be dead by end of the summer

Pretty sure more than 100,000 Americans will be dead by the beginning of the summer (June 22).
