You had chaplains in the Navy. Large police forces have chaplains. Every large base has a government-provided church or six. This is not a fight worth fighting.
Chaplains are required to serve all people regardless of any faith or no faith. Chapels are required to be open for groups of all faith and no faith.
When I was at Naval Station Rota, there was a Wiccan group which regularly met at the chapel.
Freedom of religion for all religions and none is absolutely worth fighting for. It’s right there in the Constitution.
FFRF by the way has many religious supporters, because they also do not care for creeping Christian Nationalism.
CNN just reported that Trump supporters have formed caravans and are blocking traffic in several major cities, including “a vital bridge outside of New York City.”

That police stand back while white lunatics engage in crimes & intimidation on behalf of Trump is a huge demonstration that there needs to be a top-to-bottom review of who serves in the police and departments nationwide. Americans deserve better than cops who cheer terrorists.

Humanist Group Sues Oklahoma School District Over Forced Christian Proselytization (American Humanist Association)
It isn’t just the Air Force, it’s everywhere.
Yesterday, counsel for the American Humanist Association filed a lawsuit against Maryetta Public Schools in Adair County, Oklahoma for violating the Establishment Clause of the U.S. Constitution for mandating young students to participate in evangelistic religious activities.
“Maryetta school officials have brazenly violated the First Amendment rights of their students.” said Monica Miller, Legal Director and Senior Counsel of the AHA.
For decades, Maryetta Public Schools has brought Christian missionaries into its classrooms, from prekindergarten through eighth grade, in a monthly class called “Missionaries.” During this hour-long class, three “Missionaries” proselytize Christianity to a captive audience of schoolchildren. Students are given bibles, coloring books, and sing songs about Jesus, all during school hours and under the direct authority of school officials. Non-Christian students have been forced to attend this class without their parents’ knowledge or consent.
“No school official could reasonably believe that it is constitutional to subject impressionable prekindergarten students to overt Christian proselytization in a class called ‘Missionaries’ led by church officials, held during school hours and with no option to leave,” Miller explained.
(more, with an internal link to the suit filed in court)
They don’t think it’s constitutional. They think their religion trumps the Constitution.
They are fights worth having.

Hey! I’ve been visiting this site for a long time, been a member for about 4 years, I think.
I’m not really one to post things online, but I wanted to do it at least this once, before Tuesday, as a way of saying thanks. I really appreciate what Charles Johnson and everyone else does here. The mix of great music, humor, news, and refreshingly sane political conversation is incredible. Coming here to catch up on the breaking news, often before it shows up elsewhere, or listen to amazing music I would not have found otherwise… this site has really helped me get through the last few crazy years.
I’m a teacher living in Florida. Musical background (years on cruise ships). First involvement in a political campaign was knocking on doors for Hillary for the last month in 2016. Helped me later, knowing I tried. Talked to a lot of good, concerned people. Met felons sad they couldn’t vote. Got yelled at by a Bernie guy. Got challenged to a fight in a parking lot by a 70 year old Trumpster ‘cause he didn’t want me in his complex (I declined). Got the cops called on me by another one, cursed at by others. Why are they so angry?
I remember last time seeing very few Clinton signs around. This time, there are a lot of Biden signs. I’d say my local sign poll is about 60-40 for Biden. Stuff for the other guy is usually enormous flags. What is the deal with giant T-flags and oversized pickup trucks?
Oh, and one more thing, news from this afternoon…
Early voting in my neighborhood was well run and easy to do. Now waiting, nervously, for Tuesday. Thank you, to everyone here.

Admittedly I’m in a sour mood, but…
America beat the Nazis and then imported a bunch of Nazis scientists, created a bunch of European stay behind projects that incorporated Nazi agents, and borrowed a bunch of Nazi ideas because we were scared of Communists.
America also aggressively decided to no look at how often Nazism and Adolf Hitler used American racial policy…and the rituals of groups like the Klan…to create their own state.
If we keep clinging to the action movie version of history all this shit is just going to happen again.
UNMC pandemic expert fears dramatic increase in Nebraska’s COVID-19 deaths (Omaha World-Herald)
As cases of COVID-19 surge in Nebraska, a University of Nebraska Medical Center pandemic expert is forecasting dark months ahead for the state without more stringent public health measures or better compliance with the measures already in place.
Sorry, your science interferes with the GOP’s genocide plan. Plus, according to Gov. Ricketts, you work for a “government school” which should be privatised anyway.
Dr. James Lawler, a director at UNMC’s Global Center for Health Security, looked at what occurred in such places as New York, Belgium and Italy’s Lombardy region, where cases surged early in the pandemic and overwhelmed hospitals.
Some of those locales reached overall fatality rates of 1,000 per 1 million people.
Lawler then did some calculations based on Nebraska’s population. At that rate, by January, the state could add 1,900 deaths from COVID-19 — in addition to the 637 the state already had tallied by Friday, a number that continues to grow.
“If the outbreak continues at this pace, and we don’t implement much more stringent public health interventions — or at least if we don’t get people to adopt those behaviors, which ultimately is the most important thing — I think we could easily see three times the total we’ve seen so far,” he said Friday.
You don’t understand, Doctor. Your concern is public health. That stands in the way of profit.

The tragic joke of Trump’s CV19 fuckup is that it was arbitrary and unnecessary. In late Winter he could have seized it as the issue that would save his ass, making him a hero of the people, if he had just followed competent advice. Unfortunately for 250,000 families, he didn’t. We are not as white as my kids think they are.
It’s an extremely shrinkable set.
Whiteness exists to be distributed and withdrawn advantageously by powerful people.
You’re white until you’re inconvenient, at which point suddenly you’re the endpoint of vaguely defined issues of culture and region that make you nonwhite enough that your problems don’t reflect on other “white” people, and in turn those “white” people don’t have to care about you or think about how what happened to you could happen to them.
It’s the greatest grift on Earth, operational nonstop for almost seven centuries.

When coal mines were functional and Appalachian men were killing themselves extracting it, they were white.
When the coal mine owners began strangling their own operations and laying those injured men off, while at the same time painkiller addiction ripped through those communities…suddenly there was a bunch of discussion about the cultural problems and learned bad behavior of Appalachia.
Now proceed backward through history and notice how “whiteness” is used exactly the same way, stitching succeeding groups into whiteness during their time of ascendance and ceasing to give a shit when their moment fades. The entire premise of how we read history and civilization hinges on this conceit: all the winners form a continuity that can only be established backward, by the current winners, all the losers just drop out of mention.

More info on this disgusting piece of shit KKKlansman Lothrop Stoddard.
Theodore Lothrop Stoddard (June 29, 1883 - May 1, 1950) was an American white supremacist[1][2] and nazist historian, journalist, and political scientist.
Stoddard wrote several books which advocated eugenics and scientific racism, including The Rising Tide of Color Against White World-Supremacy (1920). He advocated a racial hierarchy which he believed needed to be preserved through anti-miscegenation laws. Stoddard’s books were once widely read both inside and outside the United States.
He was a member of the Ku Klux Klan, where his books were recommended reading.[3][4][5][6] He was also a member of the American Eugenics Society[7] as well as a founding member and board member of American Birth Control League.[8]
Stoddard’s work influenced the Nazi government of Germany. His book Untermensch (1922) introduced the term (English: sub-human) into Nazi conceptions of race. As a journalist he spent time in Germany during World War II, where he interviewed several prominent Nazi officials. After the end of the war, Stoddard’s writing faded from popularity.

I suppose the found a way to make Big Macs in the bunker.
Via @Kevinliptakcnn, traveling with Trump: “We were escorted directly through the crowd without any bike rack or fencing separating us. We had to ask supporters to clear a path…One, who was not wearing a mask, made exaggerated coughs in our faces…laughing while we passed.”

A federal law enforcement source tells NBC News that beginning tomorrow morning crews in DC will begin erecting a “non scalable” fence that will secure the perimeter around the White House, NBC’s Michael Kosnar reports. 250 National Guardsmen have been put on standby.
On which side are the locks?

“After the end of the war, Stoddard’s writing faded from popularity.”*
*Some Republican exceptions apply
There are a lot of echoes of Stoddard in current conservatism, especially in the attitude toward immigrants and the paramount importance of inherited status. One can easily imagine young Pat Buchanan and William Buckley gleefully devouring his work. As a prominent New Yorker, Fred Trump would at least have met him.
re: #99 jaunte
You guys should understand that Joe Biden will just bring a ladder big enough for everyone to climb the fence right? Trump can’t hide.

D.C. needs vuvuzelas.
re: #100 Shiplord Kirel: Fan of USPS, Goodyear, and Oreo
Stoddard was immensely popular during his lifetime. There is even an allusion to him in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, in which antagonist Tom Buchanan is quite taken with Stoddard’s ideas (though calling him “Goddard”).
What I’ve never been able to understand is why, if we white people are so incredibly superior, do we need to worry about laws to keep brown people down? Nobody passes laws to prevent cows from growing wings and flying, or zebras from being admitted to college. Neither of those things is going to happen, so why would we need to prevent truly inferior people from doing whatever?
Oh wait. That’s not really what we’re worried about here, is it?

Racism is just a subset of birthright privilege for these people. They know they will lose a fair competition.

Yeah, but if our laws promoted respect and kindness for all…oh. That’s not what they’re looking for either, is it?

FFS this is a project that began planning under Obama.

That isn’t a non-scalable fence. It’s taller, but it can be scaled.

What will the new White House fence look like?
The current 6 feet 6 inch tall fence will be replaced by an approximately 13 feet tall fence with wider and stronger fence posts. The new fence incorporates anti-climb and intrusion detection technology and is designed to mitigate current and future security threats.
I am willing to put money on this being the same fence.

OMG, I was going to post Shake Some Action next!!!
I learned how to play that song a year or so ago. No competent musician will ever fear my guitar skills, but I can rest easy knowing I can play that on.
