Great: blocking the Garden State Parkway? That should really sway Jersey voters over to the Trumpside…

There’s a lizard living in my computer room. (Not me, one of those little green guys) Told him he was welcome as long as he ate the bugs that aren’t welcome.

Seems to be surviving fine so far. Think maybe he’s getting water from the dog bowl at night.

Just make sure everything is password-protected (on the Internet, no one knows you’re a lizard)…

Wouldn’t a free range lizard living and eating in your computer room also be pooping in your computer room? What does lizard poop even look like?

From my favorite photographic blogger. He normally is extremely apolitical.

Sunday Support Group: Vote

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men [and women] to do nothing.”

—Edmund Burke, a founder of modern
conservatism, 250 years ago

I’ve already voted—I voted early, last Tuesday, at the County Building in Penn Yan. I had to wait a long time to vote. Three years, 11 months, and 26 days.

I like that joke.

I’m breaking with my normal practice this morning because of the responsibility I feel regarding Edmund Burke’s quotation above. I normally don’t discuss politics here, but in this case I feel a duty.

My opinion is that this election has more to do with psychology than politics. I believe Trump is sick. So as not to direct you to any specific web page, such that you may consider me to be “leading” you, just Google “Cluster B” for yourself and read down whatever list of symptoms you find. Then you tell me which ones apply to Trump.

It won’t be hard.

He then concludes:

In sum: my opinion is that the election on Tuesday should not be about your paltry personal politics, whatever they may be, and citizens should not vote according to their interests, this time around—because one of our candidates is unfit. Therefore the endorsement of TOP in this election is as follows:

If you normally align with Democrats, don’t make “The 2016 Mistake”…make sure you vote. Do not be tempted to waste your vote on a third party candidate or a write-in. And if you normally align with Republicans (you are of course not unwelcome here) I especially urge you to be of good conscience and put your country ahead of your party. You’ve heretofore been playing with fire in the worst possible way. As my father, a lifelong Republican who had friends in the Nixon White House and was a high level appointee under Jerry Ford, puts it: “vote Democratic until Trump is gone.”

Can the Republicans go even lower?

Why yes they can with Putin’s last “Putsch”!

Moscow’s domestic propaganda apparatus—which targets Russian-speakers all over the world, including the United States—has blatantly disregarded the Kremlin’s stringent broadcast regulations and started airing excerpts of the so-called “Hunter Biden sex tapes” during primetime, almost daily.

Had a nice computer/monitor rig with dual 28” Dells I was pretty proud of. One day, it was dead. Black ants were crawling up it and I yelled ‘Damn you little black bastards!’ Nuked as many as I could, put the poor Dell on the floor, got another monitor.

Next day, ants on the dead Dell again. I decide I’m going to try and find out if I can fix it. After nuking more little black demons, I open it up. A gecko got inside and fried itself on the power supply board. But only half way: the non-toasty half was a feast for the little black demons.

I still hate the little black demons, but I understand now. Geckos are not cute any more. They poop all over your walls.

Which is particularly stupid in a year where more people than ever are voting by mail, voting early, etc. Voting is highly distributed and harder to interfere with by intimidation.

I had the radio on earlier and there was a traffic report to watch out for some sort of car parade up in the North Bay Area-people were getting on the freeway, driving really slowly and then circling back around to do it again after a couple miles. Having people going that slowly was creating a traffic hazard, but it was fairly brief. I assume it was Trumpers.

There is some nonsense on YouTube about a 96 mile Trump parade in the Arizona desert. IIRC the video shows maybe a hundred vehicles, but I’m not sure what the “96 miles” part refers to. Are they going to drive 96 miles? All the video shows is a lot of trucks hanging around a dirt road intersection and one shot of a bunch of vehicles driving through. It’s certainly not miles long. 96 miles seems oddly specific for random driving around.

Primate noisemaking display:

“…Chimpanzees drum on tree buttresses or other resonant structures as part of their dominance displays (Goodall, 1986). The chimpanzee Mike was observed repeatedly charging higher-ranking males whilst propelling kerosene cans in front of him (Goodall, 1986). Drumming can accompany vocal signals such as long-distance calls (e.g., climax of a pant hoot), sometimes even replacing part of the vocal phrase (Boesch, 1991; Arcadi, 1996; Babiszewska et al., 2015). This combination of vocalizations and noise making using objects is generally associated with social tension or high levels of arousal within the group (Goodall, 1986; Nishida et al., 1999). Other individuals can join the initiator by vocalizing, drumming, or both (Fedurek et al., 2013). Also gorillas drum on their own bodies and objects during displays (Schaller, 1963). Generally, drumming in display contexts is likely to be perceived by others as a demonstration of strength.”ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

When I went to vote last week, we dropped off the ballots at the county election office, more out of an overabundance of caution than anything else. On the way there, there was a Trump rally, if you can call it that, just off the exit ramp. Literally a dirt patch, next to an under construction Dave & Buster’s in an outlet shopping center parking lot. About 100 yds by 50 yds with a bunch of MAGAts with their pickup trucks and giant ass flags milling about.

The kicker was across the road was a lone guy sitting on the grass with a “White supremacy is wrong” sign, being confronted a cop and a guy in a suit I took to be a detective of some sort. I’ve been wondering for over a week if I should have pulled over and got involved somehow. I really worried about that guy’s safety.

I can only imagine how bad it is in Houston, or Texas, or Arizona, or North Carolina, where it appears the cops are pretty much acting as Trump’s shock troops at this point.

If Great Grandpa Bacon member of the Executive Committee of the IWW was still alive he’d be organizing this.

Labor leaders propose a general strike if Trump loses but does not accept the results

In the event that President Donald Trump loses in the upcoming election but refuses to give up power, some American unions are contemplating a general strike — meaning a major strike in which a significant percentage of workers from every sector of the economy withhold their labor.

“History teaches that would-be dictators should be taken at their word when they declare an intent to remain in power regardless of election results,” Harvard Law professor Laurence Tribe told Salon by email last year. “That’s a strong reason for patriotic citizens of all political persuasions to work toward an electoral landslide that would minimize Trump’s opportunity to cling to power. But nothing could reduce the probability of that abnormal behavior on Trump’s part to zero. If Trump refuses to leave, even judges appointed by him could well align with the legitimate winner’s predictable request for an emergency injunction to pry him from his lair in the White House.”

He added, “If Trump defies judicial orders to give up power — including the nuclear codes — there could well be a military coup, backed by tens of millions of citizens taking to the streets, leading to Trump’s forcible ouster. Failing that, there might be a massive popular uprising, backed by Fox along with the other cable networks and social media platforms, that could well erupt in terrible bloodshed. However, one defines a ‘constitutional crisis’ — a much-overused term — Trump’s refusal to abide by the electoral outcome would certainly qualify as such a crisis.”

So, this is supposed to have been in the Phoenix area, and there was apparently a car parade which one of the participants said was over 30 miles long. The pictures on the video are out in the middle of nowhere (which I realize can be very close to Phoenix.) I’m guessing the length of the parade has grown considerably from the participant’s presumably rather uninformed estimate.

They weren’t good enough at math to measure out 88.14 miles.

A point to make to people considering the bad faith arguments of Trump that votes arriving or counted after Nov 3rd are invalid. The candidate is technically elected by the Electoral College when it meets in December. This is when the Electors declare: each according to rules set by their state. Votes are collected by the states according to each state’s own rules and timelines.

The president is technically not elected until December. The November 3rd ‘election’ is only part of a month’s process. If you believe so firmly in the Electoral College then votes arriving or counted after Nov 3rd are valid only according each state’s rules, and not by any other. Especially the President’s feelings or rantings.

Fifty million people out in front of me
Trying to cross the water but it just might be a while
Rain’s coming down I can’t see a thing
Radio’s broken so I’m whistling
New York to Nyack feels like a hundred miles

It’s not right
It’s not fair
I’m still a mess
And you still don’t care
I go to work
I come back home
But you’re still gone
And I’m still alone
And the little red light’s not blinking
No, no the little red light’s not blinking
No, no the little red light’s not blinking
On my big black plastic Japanese cordless phone
Oh no

Trump Is Losing Ground With Some — But Not All — White Christians (FiveThirtyEight)

Trump won white Catholics handily in 2016, but there are signs that his hold on this group is slipping. That’s doubly worrisome for the president because white Christians are declining as a share of the population overall. And if overall turnout is high and he loses some support from white Catholics without making up the difference among other groups, Trump could be in trouble — even if he overwhelmingly wins white evangelicals again.

Meanwhile:

Atheist Trump 7 Biden 88 D+81
Agnostic Trump 15 Biden 79 D+64
Nothing in particular Trump 31 Biden 62 D+31

White Evangelical Protestants and non-Evangelical Protestants are still in his corner.

My experience with the decline of Trump support in my area. This is obviously purely anecdotal. Also, I do live in a blue congressional district, but it’s Illinois so has a lot of farmland surrounding the major metro area in the district.

Anyway, I have a friend that lives about 30 minutes outside of my metro area in the middle of farmland. I went to her place this weekend to do some dog training. The most direct route from my house to hers is about 75% driving in the country on roads surrounded by farms. 4 years ago I remember driving out there during election season and there were so, so many Trump signs in yards. Easily 30+. My drive out there this weekend? 3 houses have Trump signs.

Loved seeing the lack of Trump signs.

The answer is Everything,…all Ratfucking ever thought of mankind.

Trump gangs (Oathkeepers, III%er’s, and highway blockers) as well as modern Republican politicians know that many local police or Sheriffs will either ignore or directly support actions threatening or initiating actual violence against Democratic politicians and voters.

Dogs are therapy for the world. I went down for my mail yesterday, and a dog who had come with someone for the football game was tied up outside. Enormous white pup. Wandered over with a happy disposition for scritchins, which of course he got. Then, as I was down at the mailbox, he gave one barbaric yawp at something neither of us could see in the apartment complex across the street. He immediately looked at me like, “Still shaking that bush, boss!” More scritchins on the way back.

The Satanic Temple Files A Motion to Disqualify Justice Amy Coney Barrett from Ruling on TST’s Supreme Court Abortion Case (pdf file at Shopify)

TST has filed a motion asking the Supreme Court to disqualify Justice Amy Coney Barrett from ruling onTST’s lawsuit challenging Missouri’s abortion laws. The motion questions Barrett’s ability to remain impartial based on her publicly-expressed religious belief that life begins at conception and her stated opinion that Roe v. Wade was a “barbaric” decision that has caused the loss of millions of lives.

The case started when TST member Judy Doe, seeking an abortion in Missouri, was forced to accept literature that asserted the position that life begins at conception and then endure a three-day waiting period that was designed to instill guilt and shame for her decision. TST argued that the imposition of this arbitrary view on when life begins violates our religious beliefs of science and bodily autonomy, and creates an unconstitutional undue burden on Doe’s religious practices. The Eighth Circuit Court dismissed the case and held that Missouri’s proclamations do not violate Doe’s free exercise of religion, even though they are rooted in Catholic dogma. TST appealed their decision to the Supreme Court.

I haven’t talked to the guy in years. The fact that he’s gone from “I’m a loyal Democrat, but Obama needs to go” to “I’m a libertarian, both sides suck” is not that surprising.

I’ve mentioned this before, but he’s got an engineering degree from a really good school. Which really threw for me a loop when he told me in the same discussion that values evidence above all else, therefore UFO sighting are actually human time travelers from a far flung future century.

My wingnut state senator was arguing in the Unicameral against “socialists” who want to eliminate the police and turn Nebraska into some dystopian hellscape.

Another senator had to remind the Republicans that three-quarters of the towns in Nebraska have no police, and of those which do, many are towns with only a marshal to enforce town ordinances.

That doesn’t matter though. They’ve since entered a budget bill which would “prohibit” removing any funding from a police department.

She’s going after his church as well.

Meanwhile, in tales of Christian Nationalism:

A couple of weeks ago, officers in the Chicago Police Department took their police horses — their horses! — to get blessed by clergy members of Grace Place Episcopal Church and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on the occasion of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. They participated in this advertisement for religion while in uniform and while on the clock.

Now the Freedom From Religion Foundation is warning the CPD against this violation of church/state separation. While FFRF acknowledges the importance of community policing and participating in local events as a way to form positive working relationships, the appearance of a religious endorsement is still an issue.

Getting animals blessed on St Francis Day is an old thing. The protestant cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC has done circus elephants. (They also have/had a high-wire artist on staff.) Wife’s RC parish will bless everything that moves—they try to keep the tabbys and GSDs apart. There have been incidents.

The issue is they were on the clock on the taxpayer dime, in uniform. That is a blatant government endorsement of religion.

FFRF is not suing, just reminding them of that (that’s all FFRF usually has to do with government entities).

I made a complaint a few months ago about the ID card office at FE Warren AFB in Cheyenne. They had a challenge coin rack on display (that’s allowed) made as a giant Christian cross (that’s not). I received notification about two weeks later that the rack had been changed to a normal rack.

You had chaplains in the Navy. Large police forces have chaplains. Every large base has a government-provided church or six. This is not a fight worth fighting.

This is an odd thing. My ward leader has not called or texted me since Oct 24. He usually offers lawn signs and lit for a specific candidate. All he did besides asking me if I had my election lessons was give us a personal letter saying to vote for DT and company.

Trump will declare Victory early on Election Day, prepare the 6-3 Supreme Court to intervene, and call on Trump gangs everywhere to directly interfere with highway traffic, roads leading to reliably Democratic voting centers, and personally harass people standing in line to vote using deadly weapons,

We are already living in a Hybrid State with a significant number of local Police onboard.

I brought my toy stuffed turtle (that I’ve had since I was 4 years old) to the blessing one year. The priest got a happy laugh out of it.

Well that tweet is from 2012, so he was just a reality TV star at the time.
