Where I live in Chicagoland, a steering wheel can be painfully cold in the winter, just like it can be painfully hot in the summer. A heated wheel solves the cold wheel half of the problem.

None of this is worth the paper it’s written on without enforcement. Break the code, and you’re gone.

I’d thought everything that was going to be found had been found, but there are still people hoarding missing episodes.

Two classic Doctor Who episodes have been found, but they may never reach the public. The hunt for the long-lost episodes has been ongoing since the BBC purged their copies of many episodes from the William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, and Jon Pertwee eras. There has been an ongoing effort to recreate the episodes through animated reconstructions, but some secret recordings have been discovered over the years.

Just a few weeks before the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary specials, The Guardian has revealed that two more lost episodes have been found. The episodes, which both feature Hartnell as the Doctor, have been lost for decades. While other episodes have been given to the BBC for distribution, the owners of these recordings, who have not revealed their names, will not be distributing them. As former BBC employees, they fear that they could face prosecution from the BBC for stealing the episodes.

Indicted MAGA pastor ‘will not cooperate with evil’ and vows to never flip on Trump

rawstory.com

One of the lesser known people swept up in Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ RICO indictment related to former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election result was Stephen Lee, an Illinois-based pastor accused of trying to pressure a Georgia election worker into falsely confessing to committing fraud.

The Washington Post reports that, unlike some other defendants such as attorneys Sidney Powell and Jenna Ellis, Lee is vowing to never seek a plea deal and will take his chances in court — even if it lands him in prison.

During a speech he delivered in front of fellow Trump-backing evangelicals who held a fundraiser in his honor last week, Lee dismissed any notion that he would follow the path of other one-time Trump allies.

“I’m not going to plead out to a lie,” Lee said. “I’m not going to cooperate with evil. I’m not going to do something that is going to eat away or destroy our First Amendment rights… This is the Lord’s battle, and we’ve got to fight it.”

Lee has been accused, along with pro-Trump activist Harrison Floyd and publicist Trevian Kutti, of trying to pressure Fulton County election worker Ruby Freeman into claiming that she helped steal the 2020 election from Trump, which prosecutors say was designed to give Republicans a justification for blocking the certification of President Joe Biden’s win.

Well I wonder what Pulpit Pimp will do when he’s in a jail cell and his Lawd and Savior isn’t…

The EU’s 27 countries issued a statement on Sunday saying hospitals “must be protected” and condemning Hamas for using the medical facilities and civilians as “human shields”.

So at least the EU is demonstrating awareness that IDF is telling the truth about where Hamas has repeatedly denied locating themselves. There must have been some back-channel sharing of evidence.

The Israeli military has said it was providing safe corridors for people to escape intense fighting in the north and move south, but Palestinian officials inside Shifa have said the compound was surrounded by constant heavy gunfire.

So “constant heavy gunfire” must mean shooting between one side and the other, right? IDF isn’t shooting just for the hell of it. Proof that indeed Hamas is there.

Yes, the monarch can indeed grant such pardons. QEII gave a posthumous pardon to Alan Turing in 2013; he was convicted in 1952 of being gay. In 2017, Parliament passed “The Alan Turing Law” which granted blanket pardons to anyone ever who’d been convicted of that offense.

If I was the head of a terror organization, I would certainly consider setting up in or near hospitals because it reduces the chances that my ops center gets blown to bits.

I would consider this even moreso if I did not really give a shit about the lives of the civilians in said hospital.

It’s a logical move. There is no reason to doubt Hamas is doing it.

There’s independently verified documented evidence that shows they’re doing this. I don’t know why this is even a question, beyond, “We stubbornly refuse to believe anything but the worst about Israel and the best about Hamas.”

Ken White speculation thread on new SCOTUS code of conduct:

@kenwhite.bsky.social

If a Justice’s family member — let’s just say, hypothetically, a wife, no reason — is a paranoid psycho with an elaborate delusional structure driving efforts to overthrow the United States government, the Justice should not bring them to the picnic, because no other Justice wants to hear that shit.

@kenwhite.bsky.social

A Justice may attend, and speak at, conferences of prominent legal organizations, but should avoid joining chants that might indicate partiality, including but not limited to “Lock Her Up” and “Jews Will Not Replace Us.”

It’s even worse than that. There’s literally no enforcement mechanism specified. It’s the Judicial Code of Ethics, with the word “shall” replaced by the word “should,” and with no reference whatsoever to any consequences for violating these guidelines, nor any way to act on said violations.

None of my kids or grandkids have what you would call “popular” names, and they never call me “Grandma.”

But there are lots of duplicate names, so even if a scammer happened to guess one, they would still get interrogated on “who’s your Mama? Who’s your Daddy? Name all your brothers & sisters,” etc. etc. by that time they would hang up on ME.

Israel is murdering Palestinians. Vandalism is wrong, but is expected under those circumstances because a lot of people are stupid, want a target for their rage, and choose that target poorly.

Per Adam Klasfeld’s reports on Twitter, Judge Engoron is basically overruling every AG objection to whatever evidence Trump wants to admit, which has to be very heartwarming for the AG and terrifying for Trump’s lawyers

With my usual disclaimer that “I am not a lawyer,” the best way to read this is thus: Judge Engoron is probably going to throw the hammer at Trump. Trump’s attorneys will, no doubt, try to appeal on whatever grounds they think they can find. By allowing all his bullshit “evidence,” it takes one route of appeal off the table: “We had all this evidence and the mean judge didn’t let us present it.”

Johnny McEntee, the cheerful and upbeat young aide who became Trump’s essential man in the waning days of his presidency. Trump lies about everything — and he clearly did not stay in office and refuse to leave after the January 6 vote in the House. As of the latest available Federal Election Commission data, Politico reports that Sinema is finding little financial support in what’s shaping up to be a close three-way race next November. Following her exit from the Democratic Party last December and Rep. Ruben Gallego’s (D-Arizona) campaign launch the following month, Sinema has had very little success maintaining enthusiasm among the financial backers that propelled her last campaign

re: #206 Joe Bacon ✅

I remember Grandma telling me about the Prohibition Party in PA during the 1920s. The mill bosses gladly financed them to divert workers away from the Socialist Party…and when the Volstead Act enabling Prohibition passed the mill bosses were ROYALLY PISSED OFF!

Those same bosses made sure that there were “speakeasy” joints where you could get your beer and hard liquor fix.

And naturally the owners of those speakeasys were those bosses.

I’m surprised Republicans haven’t flocked to support her but I guess there must be a Republican candidate in that race. Oh well. I’ll be so glad to see her out of the Senate. She’s such a tool.

I’ve seen a lot of online guesswork that Kari Lake is likely to take a run at the GOP Senate race next year: good - she can have another loss to bitch about and waste court time over….

Hannah Arendt told us:

Johnny McEntee went viral before virality, as a trick-shot QB at UConn. He foresaw the rise of Donald Trump, while ordering him KFC on the campaign trail. He was straight out of central casting, but suddenly “Johnny Mac” the quarterback became enforcer-in-chief for the commander-in-chief, running a presidential “Gestapo” and hand-picking cabinet secretaries. Correspondent Devin Gordon meets a Trumpworld action figure and asks: How did this in-over-his-head loyalist get so powerful? And could it happen again?

And the Drys are still giving the Wets heck in PA.

Jews, it goes without saying, have a real problem with the Drys.

Proper observance of Jewish rituals requires we drink wine at the beginning and end of every Sabbath, plus 14 annual holidays. At Passover, we eat sitting on cushions on the floor instead of in chairs, so if we fall. over drunk we don’t hurt ourselves. On Purim, we get so drunk we can’t tell the hero from the villain.

And of course births, deaths, weddings, bar mitzvahs, graduations, engagement parties, naming ceremonies… if you have.a large family, there’s at least one of those every couple of weeks.

Fiddler on the roof - Lechaim (with subtitles)

God would like us to be joyful even when our hearts lie panting on the floor
How much more should we be joyful when there’s really something to be joyful for?

I would not be shocked if she just leaves her name on the ballot as an Independent and simply doesn’t do anything. It’s apparent she doesn’t actually like doing the job.

That all depends on how the job of US senator is defined. The Republican definition of the job is “cashes the bribe checks promptly.”

A devotion to ritual, which, I am sure, was given a considerable boost in attention when Prohibition kicked in; IIRC, certified Kosher winemakers (and a few other religiously-affiliated producers) were exempt from the 18th Amendment’s clutches. Freedom of religion! I’ll drink to that!

Supposedly, that’s how Manischewitz got their wine business started: they had been a matzo bakery, but took a chance and bought out an Upstate NY winery when it had had to go out of business due to Prohibition.

Probably not likely to happen to me. I don’t answer my landline; just periodically listen to voice messages. And I seldom answer my cell unless it’s a number I recognize.

Ditto! Same here.
Calls from unknown numbers are not answered. Must leave voice mail identifying the person/purpose of the call for me to pick-up.

My mother was active in that movement.

One of my aunts was a “viper” and hung out in the Jazz clubs in Harlem in the 1930s. Grandfather had to hire a private detective to locate her and bring her back home to Sarasota.

Brilliant lady, my favorite aunt, ended up programing pentagon computers in the 1950s.

This is what Scavino said to Ellis, not something she heard directly from Trump. Trump lies about everything — and he clearly did not stay in office and refuse to leave after the January 6 vote in the House. Trump may have thought that Pence would be persuaded to hand him the presidency and his assertions to Scavino were based on his confidence in Pence being the toady he’s always been.

tfg waited until the very last minute to vacate the White House (just hours that morning before Biden’s inauguration). Thus the clusterfuck with all boxes and packages piled up in the driveway. He really thought he wouldn’t have to leave and proclaimed that he “would be back soon” as he left to the helicopter.

The donors that were giving because Sinema (along with Manchin) was ratfucking the Dems have decided that she has outlived her usefulness.

That musta hurt real bad…he was no longer the prez. He had to leave. The lawless stampede on the Capitol didn’t work like he thought it would despite all the planning. I’m sure he thinks the U.S. Presidency is his destiny. He was Prez 4yrs and screwed things up so badly. It was a disaster and millions of Americans were often embarrassed by his behavior when he visited the heads of other nations. He probably deserved to be in jail long before 2016.
