Saint Paul, Minn.
In a historic and groundbreaking decision, the Minnesota Court of Appeals ruled that a pharmacist’s refusal to fill a woman’s prescription for emergency contraception based on his personal beliefs constitutes illegal sex discrimination under the Minnesota Human Rights Act.

The Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver, surely by pure coincidence, is also trying to bring it back into the national spotlight. Last week, he announced Liberty Counsel will once again ask the Supreme Court to take up the case of Sandra Merritt, one of the weirdos who published deceptively edited videos to make it look like Planned Parenthood was getting rich by illegally selling fetal remains.

And if you thought that was going to be the weirdest part of that announcement, you would be very wrong.

The Jezebel spirit is alive and well in America. The altars to the demon Baal/Beelzebub are protected by government officials who will persecute any who attempt to stop the bloodshed of innocent children sacrificed under Jezebel’s watchful eyes.

So glad to hear that Jezebel (our once-upon-a-time sister site) is doing well after having been bought by Paste!

That being said, I’m not sure how Ba’al — another name for Hadad, a deity who was like Zeus but for Canaanites, and also a general prefix for many other Levantine deities — got to be a demon in Christianity, but that seems rude. I’m not gonna go and start a religion and call one of the demons in my religion Jesus. “Mat Staver,” though, I would consider.

In fact, let’s let the demon Mat Staver continue!

Tomorrow, Liberty Counsel will file our reply to the U.S. Supreme Court requesting the Court take up the case of pro-life hero Sandra Merritt — the brave grandmother whose undercover journalism forced America to admit that not much has changed since Jezebel’s time.

Then, as now, the bodies of innocent children are used to heat our houses (as with the D.C. clinic) and fuel our medicine.

‘The feeling is mutual’: Trump blasted over attack on Jewish Democrats

Donald Trump targeted Jews who vote Democratic Monday, barely days after the criminally-indicted ex-president threatened there would be a “bloodbath” if voters do not put him back in the Oval Office.

His remarks, which include claiming Jewish Democrats “hate” Israel and their own religion, were quickly labeled antisemitic.

“I actually think they hate Israel,” Trump on Monday told far right wing radio host Sebastian Gorka, who alleged the Joe Biden administration and Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer “hate” Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu.

“I think they hate Israel. And the Democrat Party hates Israel,” Trump, upping the ante, responded. Gorka is his former White House aide who served briefly in the Trump administration before reportedly being “ousted.”

“I really believe they hate Israel,” Trump also said, and accused Schumer, a Democrat who has represented New York for the past quarter-century, of appearing to hate Israel for “votes.”

Infuriating.

Mangel is part of a cottage industry in the legal world meant to help prepare well-heeled convicts and their families for time behind bars. He said he spoke with Navarro on Monday.

Navarro is unlikely to serve the four full months of his sentence because of laws that allow for early release for federal inmates. Mangel said he expects the time served to be about 90 days.

Mangel said Navarro will have to take classes and get a job inside the prison. The prison consultant has urged him to try for roles as a law library clerk or an orderly, so he can spend the next few months in the air conditioning as Miami’s weather warms.

Given his age, Navarro also will ask to be in a dormitory for elderly inmates that houses about 80 men in bunk beds.

Are you using a different film than usual? Today’s images have a tone/texture I find appealing….

No film today, I was using my Leica digital with the special adapter I bought for my Nikon rangefinder lenses. Because I do mostly use black and white film in the Nikon S2, I converted the images to monochrome during post processing. The difference really comes down to those two very special lenses.

Child porn and bestiality charges filed against four Wisconsin men

Not a drag queen or transgender among them.

Former Racine County Sheriff’s Deputy Preston Kite, 37, of Union Grove, has been charged with five counts of possession of child porn, five counts of child sexual exploitation, exposing intimate parts to a child, lewd and lascivious behavior, disorderly conduct, possessing bestiality material and engaging in sexual contact with an animal.

Former Outagamie County Human Resources Director Adam Westbrook, 34, of Neenah, has been charged in federal court with distribution of child pornography.

Jacob Boudreau, 30, of Appleton, who owns Show Worthy Pet Salon & Boutique in Menasha and regularly competes in AKC dog shows as a handler, has been charged with 12 counts of possession of child pornography.

Noah Thiel, 20, is the youngest of the grisly gang. Nothing is known about his professional background, if any.

Black Mirror wears its disturbing and unsettling content like a badge of honor, but nothing compares with the “Shut Up and Dance” Black Mirror episode. Charlie Brooker’s dystopian Black Mirror premiered in 2011 before being acquired by Netflix after season 2 due to the series’ continually high ratings. The anthology series commentates on issues that draw distinct parallels with the news coverage he observed during his journalism career in the UK, setting many of them in a parallel dystopian vision.

The Black Mirror episode “Shut Up And Dance” stars Alex Lawther as Kenny, a teenager blackmailed by hackers who reveal they have footage of Kenny in a compromising position. As the hackers’ demands escalate, Kenny is forced to commit increasingly risky acts to stave off the release of this overtly sexual video. While Kenny protests in innocence throughout the episode, “Shut Up And Dance” ultimately crescendos into a sickening twist that lingers in the mind long after viewing.

Black Mirror’s “Shut Up And Dance” Is Actually The Most Disturbing Episode (Screenrant)

Once upon a time, it could’ve been a good investment, back in 2016 when he was poised to win the Presidency. It’s not like he paid any attention to emoluments, after all. Now, it’s far more likely that their investment will be wasted; Biden looks strong, nigh unbeatable, despite what the media are attempting to sell with their horse race bullshit. The smart financial minds know where the betting action is.

I support free speech and the First Amendment as much as anyone, but there has got to be something we can do to start combating these sorts of people. The ones who address what would ordinarily be protected speech to people they know will take their words the “wrong way,” to the logical extreme, and threaten or commit violence because of it. I refuse to believe we are powerless to act against such naked stochastic terrorism.

A pro-Trump lawyer who tried to overturn the 2020 election was arrested Monday after a court hearing about her recent leak of internal emails belonging to Dominion Voting Systems.

There was an existing arrest warrant for the attorney, Stefanie Lambert, stemming from her failure to appear at recent court hearings in her separate criminal case in Michigan, where she was charged with conspiring to seize voting machines after the 2020 election.

Since LIEberman is the creep running the NoLabels Scam I’m surprised he isn’t going to pick up the mantle and run to put his pal Trump back in the White House.

That’s right, I keep forgetting that Lieberman is the guy behind the curtains.

It is interesting that the folks they’re asking seem to be getting lower and lower on the political food chain. I suspect that Lieberman is smart enough to know he wants somebody else to shred their reputation and career for ratfuckery rather than take the hit himself.

Sorry, I was doing laundry. And then watching Jen Psaki, Rachel Maddow ,and Lawrence O’Donnell.

So far, my understanding was that the billionaire ratfuckers at No Label have asked Manchin, Hogan (Your former GOP governor) and Nikki Haley. Who all, in unexpected fits of sanity, have had the wisdom to decline.

Because No Labels with a Republican leading the ticket will definitely steal a lot more votes from Trump than Biden. And also given the group mind of the GQP any Republican who accepts the No Labels candidacy is career toast politically.

Key lesson from this crucial episode? The only strategy that works with Russia is a threat of symmetric retaliation against their critical infrastructure. “Hit our ships and ports and we will hit yours”

This is also how to negotiate with Republicans. Can’t think why the required approaches are identical.

re: #81 FFL (GOP Delenda Est)

those No Labels asshats are going to have to build their own fucking party. Trump has co-opted their daddy’s GOP and he’s very unlikely to simply hand it back.

After Trump busts out the GOP, there’s going to essentially be one national party remaining (say 15-20 years down the road, the GOP will take a loooong time to die) but we have to get thru these very hard times first before the tide will finally recede.

Building an alternative party takes work and none of these No Labels guys want to do it, they expect to simply move in at the top and do what?????? how will they govern? America has survived these kinds of political crossroads before, parties have risen and fallen by the wayside, there’s no guarantee that the GOP is any different, parties change, evolve and currently the GOP is on the wrong side of every major issue that concerns Americans.

A nearby neighborhood shopping center has those ^%$#%$# ornamental grasses planted throughout their parking lot. Planted exactly where they block every line of sight a driver requires to navigate the @$#&%$@$ parking lot without getting into a collision.

To see oncoming traffic one has to carefully edge out into the lane. Knowing that the oncoming traffic can’t see oneself either.

What the FUCK is going on here?

Map Shows Warnings for People to Stock Up on Food Ahead of Solar Eclipse

These yokel gummint yahoos seem to be a lot more worried about an eclipse than they were about covid.

Oklahoma is expected to receive an influx of anywhere from 17,000 to 66,000 visitors to watch the solar eclipse,” it said. “The large influx of visitors to southeastern Oklahoma could overwhelm and backup the area’s road systems.”

Really? Take 5 to 8 percent of the daily commuter traffic in OKC, spread it across southeastern Oklahoma for a couple of hours and you have Armageddon of the Roads?
Some goober burgs are closing their schools for the day. When I was in the third grade, there was an eclipse and we were in the path of totality. School was not canceled. They gave us these cheap cardboard “eclipse glasses” and we trooped outside to watch for ourselves. It was a treat.

Multiple total solar eclipses have occurred in the United States even in the last ~50 years. This is not a new phenomenon, nor has it historically been a problem. It’s the same phenomenon that causes a run on milk and bread when a snowstorm hits: A fundamental fear of uncertainty.

More than just that in a Red State: a desire to foster FUD. The more fear, uncertainty and doubt you can create in your local population, the more dependent you can keep them. It’s become something of a meme and cliché but Fear really is a mind killer

We drove to the last good eclipse, to a delightful E Tennessee town (Spring City pop 1900). After careful map work we picked a city park directly on the line of longest totality. The night before we camped in the suburbs of Chattanooga, then drove to our target at dawn. The local cops had it well in hand arriving, though it took a slow hour to get out of town afterwards. There were no shortages of anything in the viewing area, including breakfast diners. For such a tiny town they really had their shit together. They had organized handicap parking within yards of the max line.

The MAGA-friendly federal judge who keeps siding with Donald Trump in his Mar-a-Lago classified records case has forced prosecutors to make a stark choice: allow jurors to see a huge trove of national secrets or let him go.

U.S. District Judge Aileen M. Cannon’s ultimatum Monday night came as a surprise twist in what could have been a simple order; one merely asking federal prosecutors and Trump’s lawyers for proposed jury instructions at the upcoming trial.

It has really felt for awhile now like she has been deliberately trying to get Smith to have her bounced from the case but he has instead continued to push forward because doing so would introduce further delay into the case. If that is her plan, then he’s finally hit a wall and there’s no way forward without doing the thing he doesn’t want to do.

That’s the long and short of it, yes. It’s depressing to think that a guy who stole a bunch of highly classified information will only face consequences if people show up at the ballot box to stop him from getting off scot-free, but that’s where we find ourselves because democracy is weird and people with power are more attached to keeping it than to doing the right thing.

This is a simple trial. Physical evidence. Documented behavior. Prosecution could be done in a week or two. A new judge could bring this to trial in four months.

If Smith appeals and Loose Cannon gets booted, the new judge will find themselves facing demands from Trump and his cronies to redo all the pre-trial motions and pleadings in order to be “fair.” And because every judge that has so far touched a Trump criminal trial has leaned heavily towards giving him what he wants to avoid the possibility of being overturned on appeal, expect the next one to give in to those demands.

If we agree that Cannon has made a total hash of things so far, then it could be that Smith asks for a re-do on prior motions and filings. It is not a matter of just subbing in one judge for another and accelerating the schedule to make up for lost time.

I try not to be a Cassandra when possible, but in this, I think the downers are generally correct. The documents case, while it logically should be enough to get rid of Trump for the rest of our lifetimes, was always a long shot, even before Loose Cannon got assigned to the case. The odds of even going to trial before the election, as things stand right now, are as near to zero as makes no difference. We have to do our jobs, show up, VOTE, tell EVERYBODY WE KNOW to vote, and hope that it’s enough to carry the day. Once he’s safely out of the White House, the criminal justice system can finally finish its work and get him out of our hair for good.

Cannon had all but set the date for the trial to sometime either July or August - depending on the filings by the parties. Any judge taking over the case, should the Circuit Court of Appeals find her conduct to be so troubling that they remove the case from her docket, can pick up from that point, and rule for the earlier date as it is not prejudicial to Trump.

Trump remains in trouble.

Multiple total solar eclipses have occurred in the United States even in the last ~50 years. This is not a new phenomenon, nor has it historically been a problem. It’s the same phenomenon that causes a run on milk and bread when a snowstorm hits: A fundamental fear of uncertainty.

“Multiple”?

1979 in the Pacific NW.

2017 from Oregon to SC.

That’s it in the past 50 years, and I know because I am 52, dreamed through my whole childhood of seeing a total solar eclipse, and finally realized the dream by driving to Kentucky in 2017.

Next month’s eclipse is especially exciting for me because I don’t have to go anywhere. Here in Rochester we’ve been planning since 2017 for a massive multi-day party and for an influx of what could be half a million visitors, since we’re the easiest and closest large destination along the path of totality for NYC, Philly and most of the Eastern Seaboard.

And yes, that includes closing the schools that day, because totality hits just after 3 PM and nobody wants the kids stuck in traffic on school buses when it happens. (I’m currently fighting with the pompous authoritarian asshole who runs my district, because he thinks he can run a half day that morning and somehow get the kids home and he doesn’t understand what the local traffic planners see coming in the hours before totality.)

After this? No total eclipses in the continental US until 2044, and then another long gap from 2052 until the 2070s.

All of which is to say, yeah, it’s a VERY big deal, just in a positive way, not in a “OMG stock up on toilet paper and canned soup” fear way.

There’s some decent commentary about how this only applies if Trump’s legal defense wants to go with the PRA route and commit to it.

The United States shall reserve and retain complete ownership, possession, and control of Presidential records; and such records shall be administered in accordance with the provisions of this chapter.

§2201. Definitions
(3) The term “personal records” means all documentary materials, or any reasonably segregable portion therof,2 of a purely private or nonpublic character which do not relate to or have an effect upon the carrying out of the constitutional, statutory, or other official or ceremonial duties of the President. Such term includes—

(A) diaries, journals, or other personal notes serving as the functional equivalent of a diary or journal which are not prepared or utilized for, or circulated or communicated in the course of, transacting Government business;

(B) materials relating to private political associations, and having no relation to or direct effect upon the carrying out of constitutional, statutory, or other official or ceremonial duties of the President; and

(C) materials relating exclusively to the President’s own election to the office of the Presidency; and materials directly relating to the election of a particular individual or individuals to Federal, State, or local office, which have no relation to or direct effect upon the carrying out of constitutional, statutory, or other official or ceremonial duties of the President.

Showing a cover page to a jury with a big-ass red CLASSIFIED stamp on it would be pretty sufficient to demonstrate that it wasn’t a personal note or daily diary entry.

So Smith may just roll with it. His team is already arguing that PRA has nothing to do with the stealing and hiding and obstructing of federal officials’ efforts to retrieve the documents.

KNOW YOUR ENEMY

He’s the main architect for Trump 2’s implementation the plan to turn America into an Xtian Theocracy

One of the key architects of Donald Trump’s plans for a second administration has been quite public about the driving force animating that radical agenda: a “cold civil war” to be won by those willing to use “biblical principles” to “instruct government” to do what the MAGA right wants.

Russ Vought, a head of the Office of Management and Budget in Trump’s first term and a big player in the planning for a potential second Trump term, made the case for this Christian nationalist vision of America in a little-noticed speech on Capitol Hill last year. The growing emphasis in pro-Trump circles on a strict conservative view of Christianity combined with an aversion to pluralism define not only what policies a future government should adopt, but American nationhood itself. It does so at the explicit exclusion of other faiths and some Christian denominations.

Vought gave the speech last September as part of a series called the “Theology of American Statecraft.” The speech was devoted to the “Christian Case for Immigration Restriction.”

There, Vought laid out the litany of extreme Trump border policies and proposals that have now become familiar: family separation, mass deportation, curtailing legal immigration. But he did so in explicitly Christian nationalist terms, at one point making an Old Testament reference to argue that the United States should model its immigration policy on the Tribe of Israel, welcoming newcomers “so long as they accepted Israel’s God, laws, and understanding of history.”

He gave the Christian nationalism talk at one of a series of events held by American Moment, a right-wing nonprofit that lists among its top priorities families “rooted in faith and tradition,” law and order, and immigration restriction. American Moment has been holding the “Theology of American Statecraft” series since 2022, composed of events targeted at fusing various forms of Christianity with Trumpian right-wing politics.

Vought himself is a heavy hitter in Trump world. After overseeing the OMB for the final years of the Trump administration, he now runs the Center for Renewing America, where he’s playing a key role in drafting a potential agenda for Trump II.

During Vought’s confirmation hearings, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) raised an article in which Vought wrote that “Muslims do not simply have a deficient theology. They do not know God because they have rejected Jesus Christ his Son, and they stand condemned.”

He’s risen the ranks in Trumpworld since then. As OMB director, he drafted a memo railing against diversity training, and, once ensconced at his think tank, circulated an anti-critical race theory organizing guide. There, Vought has played a key role in developing Project 2025, the ambitious plans for a second Trump administration laid out by a group of people around the GOP candidate. In that capacity, Vought is advocating for civil service protections to be abolished; he suggested to the New York Times last year that most conservative attorneys were too timid for a second Trump administration, saying “the Federalist Society doesn’t know what time it is.”

Donald Trump’s golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, paid $82,500 last week to settle a lawsuit alleging that it had silenced a sexually harassed waitress by tricking her into an unfair hush money deal, according to the ex-employee’s lawyer,” the Daily Beast reports.

“But the curiously worded contract left the former president’s own attorney Alina Habba—a rising star in his orbit—wide open to getting sued herself.”

A lawsuit contends Habba posed as a concerned friend giving legal advice about how to address alleged sexual harassment by a supervisor—only to abuse that relationship and “fraudulently induct” her to “quickly agree to unconscionable and illegal terms.”

Map Shows Warnings for People to Stock Up on Food Ahead of Solar Eclipse

These yokel gummint yahoos seem to be a lot more worried about an eclipse than they were about covid.

During the last eclipse, we left quickly when it was over — if we had waited a few more minutes, we could have be stuck on the road for hours, as happened to my nephew who lives in Champaign and traveled elsewhere for viewing.

There’s some decent commentary about how this only applies if Trump’s legal defense wants to go with the PRA route and commit to it.

But Cannon has shown she is either ignorant beyond words or on Putin’s payroll. She could definitely force an acquittal with her rulings.

luckily leviton makes a custom cover plate that’s half switch opening and half cover. but of course all this stuff only comes in white…..

then neither my tablet nor phone could find the device. but i hit it with a stick and at least the phone sees it. i’m surprised the tablet alexa app doesnt share the info. could be lots of reasons, but i dont care.

so now i’ve got it going on and off by time of day.

and i just learned amazon has a smart air quality monitor that includes temperature that can trigger an alexa routine. odd cause i’ve been googling and searching on amazon for just such a thing for weeks.

i’ll get one of them, stick it in the attic, and then alexa can turn the fan on and off based on temperature. which is what i wanted in the first place.

So.
Much.
Winning.

The judge overseeing former President Trump’s criminal prosecution in New York has denied Trump’s attempts to exclude evidence related to the Access Hollywood tape and testimony from key witnesses from his upcoming criminal trial, but prosecutors will not be permitted to play the infamous tape to jurors.

The defense argued Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer, should not be allowed to testify because he has a history of lying, arguing that calling him to the witness stand would amount to suborning perjury.

Judge Juan Merchan rejected the argument.

“This Court has been unable to locate any treatise, statute or holding from courts in this jurisdiction or others that support defendant’s rational that a particular witness should be kept off the witness stand because his credibility has been previously called into question,” Merchan said.

We flew out to Idaho for the 2017 eclipse. Ended up viewing it in some animal sanctuary that had a lot of bears and other wildlife. It was interesting hearing/seeing animal reactions when totality hit.
Looking forward to the April 8th eclipse.

If Trump opens the door, the video may well get played despite the ruling indicating that prosecutors can’t introduce the video (which is a Pyric victory for Trump). He can’t stop Cohen from testifying. He can’t stop Daniels from testifying.

His legal team is screwed because they can’t undermine the case against him or show that he’s not guilty. Prosecutors can show he’s guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. They have the paper trail. They have the documents and the witnesses. They have the fraudulent business records and transactions that were done at his behest.

PETER NAVARRO: So let’s let’s talk about some facts here. I am the first senior White House adviser in the history of our republic that has ever been charged with this alleged crime.

And I say alleged because for hundreds of years, this is not been a crime. And for 50 years, the Department of Justice has maintained the principle of absolute testimony immunity. And it was only with my case that somehow, that has changed.

And here’s here’s where the homework is, because the big constitutional separation of powers are these. Can Congress compel a senior White House adviser, what they call the alter ego of a president to testify before Congress? And and executive privilege goes back to George Washington and his remarks to the Congress regarding the Jay Treaty. And he said very simply and clearly, succinctly, elegantly that to write to the Congress, he said, “I cannot command you as members of Congress to come to me. You cannot command me to come to you.” And the reason is-

Who wants to tell Petey about congressional oversight?

Congressional oversight is oversight by the United States Congress over the executive branch, including the numerous U.S. federal agencies. Congressional oversight includes the review, monitoring, and supervision of federal agencies, programs, activities, and policy implementation.

Trump Can’t Help Making the Election About Him
politicalwire.com

David Frum: “Trump won’t accept the classic approach to running a challenger’s campaign. He should want to make 2024 a simple referendum on the incumbent. But psychically, he needs to make the election a referendum on himself.”

“That need is self-sabotaging.”

“In two consecutive elections, 2016 and 2020, more Americans voted against Trump than for him. The only hope he has of changing that verdict in 2024 is by directing Americans’ attention away from himself and convincing them to like Biden even less than they like Trump. But that strategy would involve Trump mainly keeping his mouth shut and his face off television—and that, Trump cannot abide.”

“Trump cannot control himself. He cannot accept that the more Americans hear from Trump, the more they will prefer Biden.”

I don’t know….Don Jr. and Eric seem to be in too deep at this point. Ivanka certainly seems to have a bit more sense (well, for a Trump that is). Barron is still a minor, though I suppose Mercedes Melania might be getting a bit concerned right about now.

re: #256 Captain Magic

Trump is using the old chestnut: “An ounce of image is worth a pound of performance.”

And now it’s biting him bigly.

Reminds me of a stanza from Pink Floyd’s “Dogs”.

And when you loose control, you’ll reap the harvest you have sown
And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone
And it’s too late to lose the weight you used to need to throw around
So have a good drown, as you go down, all alone
Dragged down by the stone (stone, stone, stone, stone, stone)

Then again that whole song is about those like Trump.

The only one who will end up with Trump’s “business empire” is likely to be Jared, since he can leverage his own family’s real estate fortune to keep some of the Trump properties within the “family”. Ivanka comes out ahead, while everyone else is screwed.

Watched PBS’s Dante: Inferno To Paradise, Part 1, and and turned it into a game of matching certain Republican political leaders (Trump, McConnell, Mike Johnson) with their own respective level of hell.

e.g. The pernicious sin of gluttony:

“But tell me, if thou knowest, to what shall come
The citizens of the divided city;
If any there be just; and the occasion
Tell me why so much discord has assailed it.”
And he to me: “They, after long contention,
Will come to bloodshed; and the rustic party
Will drive the other out with much offence.”

As it were, most of them, if not all, were multi-level.

Voters sue to keep Rep. Christine Goodwin from running for Oregon Senate

A group of Josephine County voters are suing to keep Rep. Christine Goodwin from running for the state Senate, alleging that she doesn’t live in the district she wants to represent and that the address she lists on campaign paperwork is actually a vineyard’s tasting room.

Goodwin, R-Canyonville, has served in the state House since 2021, when she was appointed to replace state Rep. Gary Leif after his death. She’s running for the Senate district now represented by Art Robinson, one of 10 Republican senators barred from running for reelection because they participated in a six-week walkout in 2023, after Oregon voters passed a constitutional amendment barring lawmakers with 10 or more unexcused absences from serving another term.

Robinson’s son Noah is also running in the Republican primary. The 2nd Senate District has nearly twice as many registered Republicans as Democrats, so the winner of the Republican primary is all but certain to represent the district in Salem.

[…]

Choose which flavor of corruption you prefer. Or vote for a Democrat. Not in the Republican primary, of course.

If you’re driving in NYC, be sure to drive the speed limit - 25 mph - in school zones 24/7 - the state/city changed the law back in 2022 to make those speed limits (and the radars/camera operated for enforcement) 24/7/365 to reduce speeding across the city.

I missed/forgot that, and got ticketed by one of those cameras. $50 ticket. No points.

IIRC, the camera operated enforcement is fining the registered owner of vehicle for the violation. No points on a license since I think it’s a lot more work or difficult to prove who the driver is given the angles and resolution of the cameras which appear to be centered on getting the license number of the vehicle.

We flew out to Idaho for the 2017 eclipse. Ended up viewing it in some animal sanctuary that had a lot of bears and other wildlife. It was interesting hearing/seeing animal reactions when totality hit.
Looking forward to the April 8th eclipse.

Bear (from far away) “Holy shit! Wait….I did not really just say something in English. Everybody please just ignore that!!”
Beaver: (not quite sotto voce) “You aren’t making it better, Br’er Bear.”

Honestly, I have no idea what defense strategy they’re planning on employing. Like said, prosecutors have all the evidence on their side. If I were acting as counsel to Mango Unchained there, I’d tell him to take the best possible plea bargain on offer and plead no contest.

Trump’s strategy is to keep trying to delay all of his criminal trials until after the election, seize power in January, then they all go away.

My plan, weather permitting, is to be floating right under the line on Lake Buchanan (Tow, TX.).
There is a huge party at the lake that day as well with a huge lineup of talent..

Little known fact:

Tow is a wine town. CenTex is a big grape growing area. Nice limestone soils, much like southern France.
