The GOP will never be rid of DJT until he dies or is driven from politics for health reasons.

OK then what happens when Princess Ivanka steps in and says she is the true heir to the throne?

As long as she has his blessing or can convince the GOP base that was his last wish before he died or had a massive stroke.

Good.

There was some Republican on Deadline WH (I was listening in my car so I missed the name) who advocated voting for Biden as the only way to save the GOP and excise Trump from their veins.

re: #61 mmmirele

Hey Belafon, your local megachurch pastor, Josh Howerton, is in the news again. Interestingly, the reporting is in the Houston paper, not the Dallas Morning News.

More at the link, but again, I can’t help but emphasize, this is not in the paper the upper-middle to upper class Dallasites would read, but the Houston paper.

Until he is room temperature 6 feet under and out of view his base will worship him.

Witness the continued worship of Vladimir Lenin even after decades of room temperature status. His public display during all this time proves a cult of personality continues as long as the body itself in visible. True the worship of Lenin and corpse viewing has diminished over time, but this is exactly the point. It will take this current generation of MAGA to die out before Convicted Felon Trump’s worshippers vanish.

In fact I can imagine his family is greedy, crass and vulgar enough to already be planning a public mausoleum where for $20 you too can place your hands on the glass casket and receive the blessings of Convicted Felon Trump’s badly preserved and grotesquely made-up shell.

Republican Party uses pic of Ho Chi Minh City for GOP convention in Milwaukee

Boston Globe reporter Sam Brodey was looking up information on the convention website and couldn’t help but notice that the skyline photo of Milwaukee didn’t look like Milwaukee.

“Which makes sense because it’s actually a photo of Ho Chi Minh City,” he said on the social media site X.

It took less than 30 minutes after Brodey posted the tweet and the screen capture for the RNC to rush to fix the flub.

“Update: the 2024 GOP convention’s ‘news and updates’ page now has an image of host city Milwaukee, not Ho Chi Minh City. Wayback Machine has a screengrab for posterity,” he wrote, linking to the previous cache of the site.

A Michigan man was sentenced today to 26 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for conspiring with other members of a white supremacist group, The Base, to victimize Black and Jewish people, and for defacing Temple Jacob, a Jewish synagogue in Hancock, Michigan, using swastikas and symbols associated with The Base.

Nathan Weeden, 24, of Houghton, was convicted at trial in January of one count of conspiring to injure, oppress, threaten or intimidate any person in the exercise of their rights and one count of intentionally defacing, damaging or destroying religious property because of the race or ethnic characteristics of individuals associated with that property. Weeden’s co-conspirators, Richard Tobin, of New Jersey, and Yousef Barasneh, of Wisconsin, both previously pleaded guilty to federal conspiracy charges related to the incident.

A man who allegedly posed as a woman with breast cancer and defrauded nonprofit organizations who assist real cancer patients struggling to pay their bills as they undergo treatment or are in recovery has been arrested in Florida.

Timothy Bartlett, 68, of Deltona, stole $5,000 in assistance from at least one Florida nonprofit providing those services, according to a statement from Mike Chitwood of the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives said Bartlett also “ran the same scam to defraud four other nonprofits in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Tennessee and Wisconsin,” according to Chitwood.

Bartlett is now detained on $20,500 bond.

A U.S. federal court of appeals panel suspended a venture capital firm’s grant program for Black women business owners, ruling that a conservative group is likely to prevail in its lawsuit claiming that the program is discriminatory.

The ruling against the Atlanta-based Fearless Fund is another victory for conservative groups waging a sprawling legal battle against corporate diversity programs that have targeted dozens of companies and government institutions.

The case against the Fearless Fund was brought last year by the American American Alliance for Equal Rights, a group led by Edward Blum, the conservative activist behind the Supreme Court case that ended affirmative action in college admissions.

So, today a very tan white lady said to me, “Your skin is so white! How do you keep it like that!”

And I’m like “I just moved down here from Michigan.”

I am already working on keeping my skin non-melanomic. I bought #70 sunblock and a big floppy hat. Oh and I mostly stay indoors. :)

I wrecked a rental car today (I did not like that car anyway!) when I tried to exit the compound before the gate was fully open. The gate took off a piece of trim on the passenger side. Stupidly for me or perhaps not, I had let them talk me into ponying up for the extra insurance so what I paid is less than the deductible.

I have another car now but it is old and has no GPS and for some reason I can’t connect my phone. Being without a GPS in an unfamiliar place is very stressful. I have waze on my phone but I have to get a phone magnet. I have not had to do this since 2014 when I got a car with SYNC navigation.

I have a Garmin but it hasn’t been upgraded in years and I left it in Michigan!

A quick trip back to Michigan and then a looooong road trip in the Corsair is looking good right now.

It’s easy to run a successful business when you can backstop it all with public funds and crime. Look at Trump and ask where he’d be if he was forced to divest of that company before assuming office, or precluded from accepting bribes from foreign governments?

It’s all fraud. All grift. All theft.

Another day, Another Republican with an ethics investigation…

Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN) is under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for allegations of staff abuse.

According to Politico, multiple aides have filed complaints accusing Spartz of erratic behavior that includes drastically slashing staffers’ pay, and communicating in fits of “complete and total rage” — and two of her senior aides, chief of staff Patrick Slowinski and communications director Michael Stevens, resigned on Tuesday, after only being in those roles since May and January, respectively.

“The aides, who were granted anonymity due to their fear of retribution by Spartz, said their complaints were filed with panel investigators before Spartz won her primary race last month. The investigators told them the Ethics Committee would not launch a formal investigation before then given the potential appearance of meddling in the election, the aides said,” reported Daniel Lippman and Adam Wren. “Spartz’s turbulent behavior has continued since, the two people said. In the last few weeks, she has imposed pay cuts reaching into the tens of thousands of dollars for some staffers, which came amid her ongoing complaints about her staff’s performance.”

According to reports, when Politico first began investigating Spartz’s work environment, she texted staffers to warn them against giving information to reporters: “If you feel strongly to badmouth me I am ok with it … but please do not use some made up speculations that could put someone’s life in danger … it’s unethical and will not serve you well in the future.”

Spartz did not appear to be immediately aware the House Ethics Committee has opened an investigation, as she told reporters asking her about it this week she is “not sure what you are talking about.”

A Ukrainian-born businesswoman, Spartz’s time in Congress has been turbulent, with her previously threatening to resign over the national debt, and proclaiming lawmakers should “shut down” the U.S. economy over the Southern border.

I mean yeah, it’s a pain to make up alt text but I do it on Mastodon because of the culture.

Speaking of poor vision, yesterday I lost a $350 pair of prescription sunglasses. I don’t know where. I tried doing the Florida thing of hanging my sunglasses in my neckline but apparently at some point during visits to several stores the glasses fell off and I have no idea where I was when that happened. So I bought a pair of the biggest sunglasses I could find and wear them over my regular glasses. They used to sell clip on shades but I could not find any, so, it’s 2 pair of glasses on my face until I can visit an optometrist and get checked for new glasses.

I withhold judgment on “AI” alt tag generation until I see real world results, of course. But this concept is better than “let’s generate pop songs and news articles based on copyrighted material.”

Ultimately there will still be copyright issues, of course, but recognizing shapes and discerning context in bitmap images isn’t the same as regurgitating plagiarized text.
