Do you think he will run as a Tea Party alternative? He could win. He's very much a pragmatist, and I'm sure he thinks the Tea Party is completely out of touch with reality.

Bolton is as crazy as the rest of them. Two words: Pam Geller.

re: #2 Sergey Romanov

I remember him standing up to the UN. Let's see how he approaches this. You might be correct.

I'd take him over Sarah Palin, at least he has some intelligence.

Max, don't be a prick and stealth-ding. Explain. Or Google instead. Here, let me do it for you:

He wrote a glowing review of the book written by an unhinged birther that claimed, among other things, that "Obama is missing the DNA of the USA" (in the Preface). He sent a video message to the crowd of anti-Park51 bigots with the equally bigoted message.

Bolton is a scum.

re: #5 Sergey Romanov

First, who is Max?

Second--the more realistic Republicans do not like the Tea Party. They aren't going to sit by and let this group run wild. Tea Party support is very shallow. It was enough to win the November elections--that is, it got people out to the polls.

But a conservative candidate could be very effective running on two points: The economy is floundering and the President did not effectively address the issue. And the 'new' foreign policy approach has not been successful. There is an opening in American politics for someone saying this very focused message.

7 Lord Baron Viscount Duke Earl Count Planckton  Sun, Nov 28, 2010 4:34:01pm

Max D. Reinhardt, who dinged the comment, but then apparently thought better of it.

As for the Republican candidate, I understand that it's too much to ask, but can there be a sane one please? One who doesn't push his religion on everybody, who doesn't openly associate with racists, bigots and whatnot? I understand perfectly that Bolton would be a better person than Palin as a President, but that doesn't mean that he is adequate enough to be the President. Lugar? Murkowski? Nah, snowball's chance in hell.

re: #7 Sergey Romanov

Yeah, that's the issue. Who is going to be the sane candidate? There is money to support such a candidate. The votes come later. That's politics.

Seconded.

10 Charles Johnson  Sun, Nov 28, 2010 5:44:25pm

And in case you don't recognize the name Aaron Klein, he's a reporter for World Net Daily.

That's right. Bolton associates with Pamela Geller (he wrote the foreword for her book and taped a speech for her anti-mosque hate rally) and World Net Daily kooks.

How anyone could possibly consider him an example of a sane conservative at this point is beyond me.

Please note: Revoking John Bolton's Award.

re: #10 Charles

Klein is the author of "The Manchurian President" as well as a birther.

Here's a review of his book:

And you gotta love the backflap endorsements. Horowitz and Breitbart.

Exactly. The guy's a nutjob. He's nowhere near an example of sane conservatism.

14 philosophus invidius  Sun, Nov 28, 2010 6:06:57pm

At least Bolton has a natural charm and grace that makes him look "presidential."

re: #14 philosophus invidius

Obama has that. Anything else?

16 Lidane  Sun, Nov 28, 2010 6:12:02pm

re: #14 philosophus invidius

His 'stache =/= Presidential charm and grace. Once he opens his mouth, it's all over. Plus, hello Geller endorsement, which would kill his chances with everyone except the raving lunatics.

17 Lord Baron Viscount Duke Earl Count Planckton  Sun, Nov 28, 2010 6:15:21pm

re: #16 Lidane

I seem to remember this from 2008. You know, John McCain is so presidential, unlike that Obama. Of course, if one thinks that merely being an older white male is presidential...

So in 2012, instead of just one Ross Perot, there are going to be like 7 Ross Perots?

I'm already tired of hearing the usual gang of idiots blame Obama's second term on the liberal media, and it hasn't even happened yet.

22 Lidane  Sun, Nov 28, 2010 7:56:01pm

re: #21 negativ

So in 2012, instead of just one Ross Perot, there are going to be like 7 Ross Perots?

Yep. And that giant sucking sound you'll hear is what's left of the GOP's credibility dying a horrible, painful death.

2012 promises to be an interesting election, especially for the Republicans. I look forward to seeing them try to out-wingnut each other in the primaries, then find themselves forced to stay in wingnut mode to keep the base happy for the duration of the general election.

23 Aye Pod  Sun, Nov 28, 2010 8:10:12pm

What kind of conservative would want to see a Pam Geller fan/associate running for president? Ugh.

24 Dancing along the light of day  Sun, Nov 28, 2010 8:15:22pm

Sadly, I think he's a "Tea Party " Conservative.

25 Bob Levin  Sun, Nov 28, 2010 9:33:26pm

Okay, I'll stand corrected. Bolton wouldn't be a pragmatist, but he might run as one.

26 Jaerik  Sun, Nov 28, 2010 9:48:06pm

It's hard to bill yourself as a pragmatism when your advice on foreign policy is, quite consistently, to invade and bomb anyone who looks at us cross-eyed. In just the past year I've heard him advocate a full-scale invasion and regime-change in Iran, North Korea, and Yemen. And for Iran, he even suggested that a preemptive nuclear strike would be justified.

It's an almost child-like obsession with military power as the final solution to all the world's problems, when our military is vastly overtaxed and struggling in Afghanistan as it is.

27 Bob Levin  Sun, Nov 28, 2010 10:14:18pm

re: #26 Jaerik

I haven't paid much attention to Bolton for some time, but, a politician can sell themselves as anything they want. It's just a matter of whether anyone buys it.

I'm probably not the only one whose memory (singular) of him is standing up to the UN, and then not being confirmed to the post of UN ambassador. One episode.

I wish Condi would run.

I would take certain large chunks I have seen in stools before Sarah Palin. That does not mean he is particularly good.

29 What, me worry?  Mon, Nov 29, 2010 11:08:29am

Condi is the only sane one who could possibly run. She's not a religious nut. She's smart. She's been in politics and knows the ropes. I'm a straight up Democrat, but I think she's the only one who would give Obama a run for his money.

But she's not running. The Republicans have no one.

30 HappyWarrior  Mon, Nov 29, 2010 12:42:03pm

Bolton says Obama's too comfortable with just domestic issues and not enough with foreign policy. The same could be asked of Mr. Bolton frankly. What does Mr. Bolton know and understand about domestic policy? He's been a foreign policy guy his whole career. And yeah he's a nut. Anyone who pallies around with Geller is frankly.
