It’s hard to find a slaughterhouse that will let you inside these days. When Michael Pollan was writing The Omnivore’s Dilemma, every single facility he contacted to arrange a tour turned him down, citing “homeland security” issues as the reason.

He had to rely on stories relayed by retired workers at such places. Which were about what you would expect.
