The point was not to get into a Constitutional debate. The point was to show how a world leader need not be constrained by spineless diplo-talk on issues of importance. Exhibit A - Sarkozy. Exhibit B - Obama.

So you want a President to speak out with a comment that would go against the concept of freedom of religion when certain expressions of faith seem repressive to us ? Where would that stop, Amish should be able to drive cars, and wear trendy cloths perhaps ?
