Trump Goes Full-On Loony

The Donald thinks Birtherism is a winning play
Wingnuts • Views: 32,422

Last week, Donald Trump tested the waters by saying he had “a little doubt, just a little” about President Obama’s citizenship.

Well, he must have gotten the response he was looking for, because today he’s going all-out into raving Birtherism.

“I am really concerned,” Trump said during an appearance on Fox News. “You have no doctors, you have no nurses … that remember.” …

Trump … brushed off past statements from current Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie that he remembers Obama being born.

“I doubt it,” Trump said of Abercrombie’s contentions. “I think this guy should be investigated. He remembers when Obama was born? Give me a break. He’s just trying to do something for his party.”

In 2008, the Obama campaign produced a certification of live birth that reports his birthplace as Honolulu, Hawaii. He attended kindergarten there before moving to Jakarta, Indonesia with his stepfather at age six. Trump, like others who question the president’s birth place, is not satisfied with the certification of live birth.

“They give you a certificate of live birth, which anybody can get. Just walk into the hospital and you get a certificate of live birth,” he said. “It’s not even signed by people.”

Among other evidence Obama was born in Hawaii is the fact the hospital where he was born took out ads in two Hawaiian newspapers in 1961 announcing the birth. But Trump isn’t buying that either:

“That was placed in the paper days after he was born. He could have come into the country and then did it for social reasons – for whatever reasons.”

Trump is also outraged that people call idiots like him “Birthers.”

And one more thing that irks Trump - using “birthers” to describe those who continue to press this issue. “I don’t like the term birthers,” he said. “I think it’s unfair to them.”

OK, then let’s use a more accurate term: addle-brained racist morons. That better?

From the previous thread….

For some further insight into the Trump Method, including all its variations of chicanery and obfuscation (not to mention the expected hyper-self-serving greed factor), the story of his role in the demise of the USFL is worth a close look. ESPN featured a documentary called “Who Killed the USFL?” as part of their SUPERB documentary series, 30 for 30 (as an aside, I’ve seen a dozen of the films so far, and I have been incredibly impressed by the content and execution of every one — I highly recommend the series), and it’s a surprising story of a league that actually had a chance of surviving, but for the actions of one arrogant individual.

ESPN’s page, including video excerpts, is worth a look:

Trump got famous for greatly expanding his dad’s real estate holdings, and using his name to equate with expensive properties and opulence (okay, gaudiness). He would use other people’s money and when his deals worked - everyone got rich, but when they went sour, he would be able to duck and cover, but everyone else got soaked. His name is still attached to casinos in AC, and they’re a shell of their former grandeur (b/c there’s no money to upgrade to compete with other newer casinos). He still does the real estate thing worldwide, and focuses on NYC, but the fascination with him as a candidate is so seriously misplaced. Yet, he’d be a great candidate to replace the current Mets ownership.

Trump’s hair could not be reached for comment. /

Dateline 11/2011:
A COLB could not be located for Trump’s hair as it appears to have been born in an alternative universe and the standard birthing/origin documentation could not be provided at the present time. /

Look, while Trump is obviously just pandering like mad here, he does capture the mindset of ‘true’ birthers. Reality and evidence don’t matter.

If someone meets your demands for proof, you move the goalposts. Trump says “Where are the witnesses?”, people say “I was a witness”, and the response is “You’re just lying to cover up for things!”. If you point out the newspapers, then that’s a fraud. If you somehow produced the original birth certificate, then its authenticity would also be called into question.

12 Nervous Norvous  Mon, Mar 28, 2011 10:34:18am

My question to this has always been, if you’re going to claim that BO was born somewhere other than where he said he was, then it’s up to you to prove it, not him.

Every attempt to prove otherwise has failed, utterly. All these idiots are left with is questioning the evidence provided which would be valid for any other person of a let us say “whiter shade of pale”.

Fox: Birth Certificate TV Ads Ready to Go…

Two-time No. 1 New York Times bestselling author Jerome Corsi, a Ph.D. in political science from Harvard and a senior staff writer at WND, has written a new book that promises to be a game-changer on the issue of Barack Obama’s eligibility.

It’s called “Where’s the Birth Certificate? The Case that Barack Obama is Not Eligible to Be President.”

The result of more than two years of solid investigative research by Corsi and a team of WND reporters and editors, this book is destined to be a huge bestseller and change the dynamics of the debate over eligibility – IF, of course, the book is not spiked by the hostile establishment media when it is officially released in May.

I know it’s just even in the way that reality and evidence don’t matter to them… even if they managed to prove their thesis that Obama wasn’t born in America, it still doesn’t mean anything unless they can also prove that he took citizenship somewhere else…

In short, there’s madness in their method.

So an OB is supposed to remember one delivery from decades ago, from among hundreds of others, that wasn’t even notable at the time, yet Abercrombie is probably lying about his memory of friends because he is a democrat?

What a fucking asshole.

It’s standard operating procedure for people when they lack anything legitimate to attack a person/group/idea on. See: Just about every campaign against gay rights/adoption/marriage (Throwing up claims about harm to children and family that have been definitively proven to be untrue) or non-Christians in general (I don’t think I need to explain this one) or non-whites (Ditto) or, in Massachusetts, transgendered people (Calling the proposed rights bill a “bathroom bill”). The so called arguments against these things/people are clearly baseless to any objective, rational person looking at them, but if you yell loud enough and bang your fist hard enough, you can convince a lot of people that want to be convinced.

34 JEA62  Mon, Mar 28, 2011 10:43:13am

Birtherism has nothing to do with race.

What it has to do with is religion, and the GOP’s coordinated effort to implicate Obama as a Muslim, and by association, portray him as unpatriotic and in collusion with Islamic fundamentalists. Which conveniently fits their narrative that all Muslims are terrorists.

All they need to do is introduce enough doubt in the minds of enough voters for this strategy to be effective.

Even if Obama produced a live certificate of birth it would not undermine their strategy because it’s only a shade of doubt that they are working to achieve, not out and out accusation he’s not American.

They use it quite effectively for climate change as well; don’t outright oppose it, introduce doubt. If enough people doubt, the strategy works.

It’s the most f-cking brilliant political strategy I’ve seen in my lifetime. And the dirtiest.

I don’t. I’ve become increasingly cynical towards the ability of the average person to truly separate fact from nonsense, especially when the nonsense is beaten into their heads. I don’t even entirely blame people for it, since it seems to be, in part, a natural human response. In any case, this makes me feel that there is at least an equal chance that more face time for birther propaganda will result in more people believing it more deeply, rather than making people realize how baseless and stupid it is.

Well, I’ll be honest. In my mind, democracy and democratic republicanism aren’t good systems because the “masses are smart”. Rather, they are good systems because it helps to prevent (But cannot prevent entirely) a few elite from totally taking control of things and running the State in a way that only benefits themselves (Or which is simply bad in general). When people can remove these bad leaders from power through the vote, it at least gives someone else a chance.

If you could find an immortal, enlightened, benevolent ‘dictator’ to run things in a manner that would benefit all (Or as close as you can get to all), then putting them in charge of everything may be a good system. It’s just that, leaving theology out of things for now, such a being doesn’t exist. As such, we’re left with flawed humans who may or may not do their best to work in the interests of the people at large. Rarely do you want one of these people to have (near) absolute power for any length of time. And even if you found someone worthy of such power, they won’t live for ever…

Iranian Video Says Mahdi is ‘Near’

New evidence has emerged that the Iranian government sees the current unrest in the Middle East as a signal that the Mahdi—or Islamic messiah—is about to appear.

CBN News has obtained a never-before-seen video produced by the Iranian regime that says all the signs are moving into place — and that Iran will soon help usher in the end times.

While the revolutionary movements gripping the Middle East have created uncertainty throughout the region, the video shows that the Iranian regime believes the chaos is divine proof that their ultimate victory is at hand.

What happens if the Mahdi appears and the Rapture occurs at the same time? Would they cancel each other out or something?

Nope, the new interpretation from Barton amd Glenn Beck is that they the Rapture will occur when the Mahdi returns. Although there are slight differences of interpretation the Islamists and the American Religious right are in agreement.

Trump has seen the poll numbers on this, and he knows what he has to do. It’s not possible to win the GOP nomination without being a birther, climate change denier, pro-lifer, anti-gay, hostile to Muslims, and a vocally devout Christian.

If you don’t toe the line on every single one of those points, you simply have absolutely no chance of winning the GOP primary. It’s not really Trump’s fault that it is this way. The problem is the GOP base. The problem is that a significant number of Americans are completely fucking retarded.

(Trump of course is a flaming tool, but this is the only move that makes any strategic sense if you follow how these issues poll with GOP primary voters. He absolutely had to do this in order to have any chance at all of winning.)

I need to make some videos for my business and I want to incorporate some music. But I need to avoid tracks that are encumbered by copyright and I can’t compose music myself and don’t know anyone who can.

What I need is free music that is in the public domain or free for commercial use. I have the classical side of things covered. But I don’t really know where to get free modern tracks from. Obviously google turns up a ton of links and I will have to sort through them but I thought maybe some lizards might know good sources already. I’m looking for music that evokes emotions/feelings of loneliness, vast open space, depth, mystery, and awe.

Waiting in the Closet
Scott Powers, the Orlando Sentinel reporter who was asked to wait in a closet at an event for Vice President Biden, writes about how his story was blown out of proportion.

“Take a couple details of information, toss them into the Internet and it can become like a child’s game of telephone — with each rendition adding spin and details. Only in this politically-charged environment, those spin and details can crystallize toward scandal. That’s especially true when it involves the vice president of the United States in an administration that has enraged a segment of American society.”

Got me. I imagine Biden wasn’t involved in the specifics. The reporter was told that the closet was a designated “hold room” and he wasn’t forced to go in there. It was in a mansion so I would think the closet was pretty big? Anyway, more here.

I agree. This country is full of more hateful, stupid bigots then anyone wants to admit. They believe pretty much anything about about any minority of any kind as groups or individuals. We all laughed at Orly Taits when she came on the scene, what she was selling was so crazy, but here “movement” has grown because this country is full of bigots and racists who would embrace it. She knew that, and we knew that. We were just so busy pretending to be “post-racial” because nobody had used the n-word. Even if 55% of the country doesn’t have resentments based on religion or skin color or sexual orientation, etc, that leaves an awfully big and powerful bigoted minority to contend with. And they are just as vile and stupid as they ever where and always looking for a new dog whistle to blow.

Here we go at the tail end of a thread again. I don’t know why I end up here so often.

However this is not something I want to believe, it is something I understand. Fools and suckers are born every day, but with few exceptions they seldom know how to come up with counter arguments to known science, economics, or the melting point of steel, or simply “know” that nobody remembers Obama as a child.

Fools don’t do research, they are taught what little they think they know, and they are taught by the people they consider their leaders.

111 Sully33  Mon, Mar 28, 2011 1:50:55pm

When the whole “birther” thing started, I just thought that conservatives were grasping at straws and Obama was going to allow them to look silly. It seemed like a fine strategy. The only problem is that at some point, you do need to produce a birth certificate to achieve this.

BS or not, the birthers are only requesting what is legal. I would consider Obama a US citizen even if he was born out of the country simply because his mother was a US citizen, but that’s not the law.

I just don’t get it… Why let this continue if he can end it by simply showing his birth certificate?

If it’s lost, say that. Losing a piece of paper is believable. If whoever filled it out messed up a few things, same thing happened to me… people will understand human error. I just don’t see an upside for allowing this to continue.

re: #114 Sully33

Wrong. He’d be giving them credibility by further addressing the issue. Even if you take the view that “natural born” citizens were ones born on US soil, the legal requirement was met when he released the short form certificate. If you or anyone else thinks he is legally obligated to produce more documentation then that then you are sadly mistaken. Further addressing conspiracy theories only feeds the trolls.

125 HappyWarrior  Mon, Mar 28, 2011 2:56:03pm

It was pointed out recently but the president’s mother was pregnant when she married the president’s father in Hawaii. Doesn’t make any sense for a pregnant woman to go all the way from Hawaii to Kenya to give birth. And furthermore, there were notices of his birth in the newspapers. Of course, the moronic birthers believe that everyone is on this conspiracy. And James asked it already earleir but he’d still be an American citizen even if born in Kenya by virtue of his mother’s US birth and citizenship. THis is nothing but xenophobic crap.

And the dirtiest.

if you don’t see the racism in birtherism, you are in flat denial of your surroundinga

Actually it is.

If one of your parents is American, and you don’t get any other kind of citizenship, by default you are an American.

Donald Chump Fail!

Jamaican Me Crazy

[Link: www.balloon-juice.com…]

So much fail:

Donald Trump made headlines earlier today when he provided what he said was a copy of his birth certificate—but a quick check reveals it’s actually not an official document.

The paper that Trump released says “Jamaica Hospital” on top and lists the date and time of what he says was his birth to “Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. Trump.” The piece of paper has a seal at the bottom.

But after several New York City-based readers contacted POLITICO’s Maggie Haberman, her call to city officials revealed that an actual birth certificate, which is issued by the Department of Health, would have the agency’s seal and also a signature of the city registrar – neither of which the Trump document has. Officials said the city Health Department is the “sole issuing authority” of official birth certificates in New York, and that the document would clearly say so, and “city officials said it’s not an official document.”

It appears instead to be a hospital “certificate of birth,” meaning the piece of paper the hospital gave to his family saying he was born. Such a document typically has the signature of the hospital administrator and the attending physician.

Does this mean Trump was born in Kenya?

Also too, you’re fired.
