Buffalo School Board Issues Ultimatum to Trump Campaign Co-Chair Carl Paladino: Resign in 24 Hours

Long overdue consequences
Politics • Views: 53,325

Disgusting racist swine Carl Paladino (sorry for candy-coating that description) has been given an ultimatum by the Buffalo School Board. They voted 6-2 today that he must resign within 24 hours or they’ll petition that state of New York to remove him. Good.

But check out how one of his 2 supporters asked the minority community of Buffalo to forgive him. This is why this bigoted piece of garbage still has a political career at all: because he’s not alone.

Only two board members ― Patti Pierce and Larry Quinn, who are considered Paladino allies ― did not support the resolution. They said they would like to see Paladino apologize to the students of the district rather than resign.

Pierce said she hoped the people in Buffalo could show Paladino some forgiveness for his comments and “take a page out of the horrific massacre that happened in Charleston, South Carolina, where nine innocent people in a house of worship were slain by a hateful, hate-filled man.”

The comparison drew gasps from the audience and was too much for one woman, who left shouting that it was offensive to use the murdered African-American congregation members in this situation.

Absolutely freaking unreal. How does someone even get into a space where they think saying something like that is remotely OK?

“Hello. My name is Carl Paladino and I would like to apologise to the people who were shocked and disturbed and disgusted as they viewed my soul which I had left open on display. It will not happen again. Because I will hide it better. Fuck you and goodnight.”

Based on the shit I overhear at Bills games, the fact he has a couple of allies on the board is not the only reason this fucker still has a career.

It’s the Paradox of Tolerance, assholes tend to think tolerant people need to be tolerant of intolerance or they’re being hypocrites. It’s a bullshit DARVO bullying tactic.

Carl’s always been a total asshole.

Cleveland (CNN)Former New York gubernatorial candidate and Donald Trump backer Carl Paladino doubled down Friday on a threatening email he sent to an anti-Trump delegate last week, saying she should not get her “underwear … all bunched up” about it.

Paladino sent an email to Utah delegate Stefani Williams telling her she should be “hung for treason” last week, according to a copy forwarded by Williams to CNN and first posted on Renew America. The email came after Williams posted an open letter on the conservative grassroots advocacy group’s website calling on delegates to “dump Trump.”
“You should be hung for treason Stefani. There will not be a Republican Party if you attempt to replace Trump. I’ll be in your face in Cleveland,” the email said

lawhawk  Dec 29, 2016 • 5:08:20pm

No forgiveness here. None. This was not an isolated incident. The people of Buffalo have seen Paladino’s racism and sheer dumbassery for a long time. Some segment of Buffalo residents thinks this is acceptable behavior. They must be disabused of this notion.

Actions have consequences. Being a racist has its consequences - and should have consequences.

The problem is that we also know that enough racists are out there to give someone like Trump a complete pass, and Paladino might fail upwards all the way into a White House gig. That’s the insanity of the current situation in the nation. There are enough angry white guys who think their privilege is being taken away because others are exercising the rights they take for granted.Their solution has been to chip away at their rights - voting, civil, etc., and Trump is the conclusion of this regressive trend.

It was mentioned in the previous thread that BOE as launching pad for conservative politicians has long been in the playbook. I can vouch for that as a HS teacher in the early 1990s in Indiana—well, actually, I don’t know if it was seen as a launching pad. It was just the goal then and there for the school board to be dominated by fundamentalists. But any one who attends or has attended meetings knows how contentious they can be. A Buffalo friend told me on FB that Paladino’s placement was more in line with the “launch pad” play—he’s rich and a player in politics through development and so that was a natural.

Paladino is the guy who went after the Khan family, then doubled down on Gold Star families that defended the Khans from his hateful rhetoric.

re: #166 Patricia Kayden

About bloody time. How was such a blatant racist on a school board in the first place?

That’s where they start. School board, commissioner of something or other, state rep, governor, then Congressman or Senator. The right has been doing this for decades and now they run the majority of states and the US government.

I have a fix for this that I have floated before at Daily Kos and Wonkette. How many people complaining about this want to run for office here (and at those sites)?

Ms. Shoenkopf at Wonkette says she is going to throw her hat in the ring for Montana’s lone House seat; Markos at Daily Kos says he is considering throwing his hat in over in California.

Haven’t heard anyone else say they were going to contest local elections on any progressive/liberal/sane Website.

Local elections are the easiest to contest: You likely know a significant portion (or all in my case) of the voters. It is simpler to get your message out (you don’t have to spend much or any money). It is harder to paint you as one of those “evil libruals” when your neighbours all know you.

I’d like to see a bunch of people here take a run at local offices. Many won’t win (that’s politics, you don’t win every election). But there has to be more to righting the ship of governance that hashtag activism (this is not nomral, not my president, &c); folk have to put real skin in the game.

My son and I were talking about that the other day, and my answer to that is that tolerance is a word, and I am not bound to that word. There is nothing that binds me to accept everything in this world. And I will not tolerate bigots or their apologists.

Michael McFaul’s account shared two posts with phone numbers on Thursday afternoon, hours after the Obama administration announced sanctions against Russian intelligence services and the expulsion of Russian diplomats.

The former ambassador confirmed to the Daily News by phone that he was sending the number as a private message but that it posted for the public to see.

McFaul also said that Twitter had contacted him Thursday morning about “suspicious activity” around his account.

He said that the account was “accessed from a location unknown to me” but that something had been done to change his settings after he changed his passwords.

The gunshop owner in my village is concerned his sales will slump - he was gearing up for a Hillary Clinton gun grab.

Most of the people in town weren’t much into the “Obama’s gonna take our guns,” but during the faux crisis where wingnuts were convinced ammunition would be banned or something, people drove hundreds of miles to buy ammunition from his shop; he had trouble keeping it in stock.

It would seem there were a bunch of Websites that noted out-of-the-way gunshops for people concerned about losing their guns or ammunition, and we were flooded with out-of-towners.

Okay, Lizards…I need help. I got my wife a nice table-top AM/FM radio for Xmas so she could listen to KQED, our “local” public radio station. Problem is, the tower is on top of San Bruno mountain and we’re in the flats in El Granada/Half Moon Bay. I bought her an omnidirectional antenna and mounted it on the roof today, but I fear that’s not going to work either (I hate climbing the fucking roof - sure I don’t mind dropping into a narrow chute on 190cm skis but climbing a ladder scares the fuck out of me).

What’s the best way to get a signal? It works fine, but scratchy, in the car, so I know there’s radio waves about…

Oh, and here’s what our view will look like if we add a second level (which I kind of want to do)…we’ll be able to see the inner harbor and that new fence is because the vacant lot is being built on by the friggin’ owners…I knew I should have bought that lot…we got a flier asking if we wanted it, but I was unemployed at the time and we couldn’t make it work…so the view of the Ritz (point of land next to eve of house on left) will go away too…

Here is a chart from a ham operator on the radiation patterns for transmitting with dipole antennas. (The patterns are the same as receiving with dipole antennas.)

You might want to check your figures on how you placed your dipole antenna for the FM radio and adjust its position or height accordingly.

In addition, KQED’s antenna is on a mountain and you are in a valley. A significant portion of KQED’s signal may be passing way overhead (hence the static you are receiving).

More on calculating the height of your dipole antenna:

The ideal height of a half-wave dipole antenna is half a wavelength above the ground.

For the purposes of FM Broadcast radio, the approximate centre of the band is 100Mc (I’m an oldz, young’uns use MHz). The wavelength of a 100Mc signal is 3 metres, making calculations easy.

Placing the dipole antenna at 1.5 metres is one-half wavelength, and gives an impedance of fifty ohms.

The link above I gave to the ham operator’s site lists impedances for varying heights different than one-half wavelength. Consult the technical specs of your radio and find what the radio’s “input impedance” is. If it is listed, then match the antenna height to the input impedance listed in the manual.

I heard O’Reilly’s Lincoln book was pretty much disavowed by Fords Theater. The best book I’ve read on the Lincoln Assassination conspiracy was James Swanson’s. Excellent read. Was hearing it may get adapted into a mini series a couple years back but nothing ever came of it. I heard also that Bill O got in some fights with Reagan’s people too over that book. As far as S&S is concerned, like the overwhelming majority of corporations are uninterested in politics or civil rights or anything else, as long as they make money. (An example is the Business Plot to overthrow Franklin Roosevelt and install a fascist government.)

re: #159 Eclectic Cyborg

Ugh. I bet this asshole finds some way to keep his job.

If he will not resign, the resolution has it the board will ask the state board of education to remove him. There is also a citizen complaint in to the state board of education to do the same.

However, Mr. Paladino can choose to oppose it with the state board, and it will likely take months for the state board to act. To get rid of Mr. Paladino would require sustained effort to the state board to remind them, as well as local activity to show that free speech does not eliminate consequences for that speech (boycotting his real estate business and those that do business with him, &c).

I am not hopeful for all that to happen, but then there might be a person like Rev. Barber in Buffalo that could inspire or lead such an action.

Aside from that, he can be ousted in the next election.

Here’s the rundown:

A well off man living in the year 1895. He’s disturbed by the sound of the commoners living in the streets, so he sleeps in his basement beneath an iron door. To further drown them out, he has a hypnotist put him to sleep every night. His usual hypnotist is moving to a different city, so the story begins at his last session with the well to do man. While sleeping that night, his house catches flame and burns to the ground. Due to his deep slumber and crypt-esque chambers, the man is unharmed and awakened in the year 2000 by a groundbreaking for a new building to a world drastically changed from the one he left.

I don’t know Bass Reaves’ past or credentials, but I do want to remember an important post made in the last thread about what may or may not be going on behind the scenes. I’m too lazy to search for it, but it reminded us that there was always an expectation of retaliation and that if US operatives haven’t already left they probably have their tickets punched by now. Trump probably knows shit, but hopefully there is a strata of people below him competent enough to understand what’s at stake and to do the right thing.

re: #201 thedopefishlives

My grandmother leased a rotary-dial from the telephone company up until her passing in 2003. The damn phone company demanded it back.

That was partly due to the breakup of the Bell System - several court cases were brought to permit putting other equipment on AT&T lines, breaking the Bell monopoly on telephone equipment rented solely from them.

In some places the phone company allowed you to buy your equipment (rather than lease the same phone as in the past for fifty years), in others they took the equipment back (it was still their equipment).

My hometown was not a Bell company: We started with a local phone co-operative (growing up, my phone number was 12; one long ring two short rings). When I was a teenager, General Telephone bought our co-operative and introduced rotary dialing. (We still had to tell the operator when we dialed long distance what our home phone number was for billing purposes - a more trusting era.)

Only when the long distance networks permitted direct dial international calls did my hometown telephone company change the long distance access code (it was 120, to conform to the rest of the nation they changed it to 1 - the USA and Canada international code).

re: #205 thedopefishlives

I could dial one, but my children would obviously be utterly confused.

When we lived in Oklahoma, we lived on a native reservation where very few people owned telephones (though there were pay phones in most businesses).

Once a neighbour came to our house to use our phone for an emergency; she wanted to call the police with 911. She took a look at our telephone and asked us to call the police, because she couldn’t figure out how to use it.

(We dialled and gave her the phone.)

Here, we only recently got 911 service. (Next to our telephone we still have the card that has the number for the fire department, the sheriff’s department, the hospital and such written on them.)

Random shutdowns are generally traced to faulty hardware. If you clearly identified a faulty component (I haven’t exactly been around much lately, so I don’t know the whole story), it’s likely you’ll be good, unless you’re lucky like me and had multiple coincidental failures.

It’s a long running, sporadic issue that hasn’t been reproducible. The best kind to diagnose.

My gut has been video card, as it is more likely to happen when playing video or right after a gaming session of some sort, and can be preceded by color blocking on the screen.

That’s still within the realm of possible. The motherboard and CPU are about 5 years old, roughly similar to the video card I was running. Still trucking along fine for the most part, so I’m hoping not to need to replace them for a while yet.

Anyway, I hope the holidays have been kind to my fellow Lizards? Seeing the families was good, if somewhat stressful at times. Poor introvert mr. klys got dragged around to multiple visits with high school friends of mine, not to mention dealing with my folks. (To be fair, I dealt with the same on his end.) Here is a chart from a ham operator on the radiation patterns for transmitting with dipole antennas. (The patterns are the same as receiving with dipole antennas.)

You might want to check your figures on how you placed your dipole antenna for the FM radio and adjust its position or height accordingly.

In addition, KQED’s antenna is on a mountain and you are in a valley. A significant portion of KQED’s signal may be passing way overhead (hence the static you are receiving).

hamuniverse.com

Thanks…There’s a HAM guy who I see when I walk Banjo most mornings. I’ll ask him what he thinks. And yes, I know most of the signals are passing over me as they’re linear, but I’m hoping there’s enough reflection to make it work…

I also like the Alexa idea…need to buy some Sonos speakers, so that adds another $300, but she’s worth it.

I developed a severe sinus infection the day my vacation from work started. I am still suffering. This, right here, is why I hate living where the air hurts my face.

Tales of holiday woe. I spent the best time with my Aunt Joan …..but

Even a few Freepers managed to figure that one out. (But, by no means all of them-even after it had been pointed out that it was just decriminalizing the kids.)

re: #241 Anymouse

I’ve been suffering from a severe migraine headache all afternoon.

I think I’ve put up with it long enough; I’m off to take my medication for that. At least until the VA is privatised, I will still be able to get it, I might as well use it. (I’ll be screwed on my epilepsy medication though. I can survive without the migraine medication.)

I suspect that privatizing the VA is going to be a buzzsaw for the GOP to walk into. It should be pretty easy to put up a campaign against the idea.

UConn women continued their streak to 87 games. They don’t get a ton of attention because it’s women’s basketball but Geno Auriemma is right up there with Red Auerbach, Coach K, Gregg Popovich, and as much as it pains me to say it Bobby Knight in the all time great basketball coaches.

I don’t really follow or care a damn about basketball, but it does seem to me that I’d put Pat Summitt on that list above Bobby the chair slinger.

Well, every one of the veterans service organisations are already organising against such a possibility. (The Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars magazines [both of which I receive] have been writing about opposition to such things for a long time. This isn’t the first time the GOP has tried this.)

I know. I trust the Dems will get on this right off the bat. I just don’t see how you can lose defending the VA. I know a lot of people don’t realize that vets have (in addition to all the things everyone else gets) a range of specialized problems that civilian doctors won’t know much about, but most people can presumably be educated.

The usual argument has already been floated: Competition from the private sector will make the system more efficient.

(a: efficiency is not what we pay for, effectiveness is. b: Nothing prevents the private sector from competing with the VA now. If the private sector thought that servicing the specialised needs of veterans could be made profitable, they would already be doing it.)

The whole point of privatising the VA is to make money off selling its parts off, and destroying it.

The KQED signal doesn’t just pass over you. It is radiated in a spherical pattern (actually more of a torus because the KQED antenna uses multiple “bays,” or phased antenna elements) that has significant downward radiation toward you.

However: Bay Area terrain sucks for FM. There’s all kinds of multipath reflection and other nasties. fmfool.com will give you an idea of how hopeless your location is, even with a good antenna. Post an image of your results or send a PM and I can give better advice (or connect you with the engineers at KQED, who are helpful folk.)

Didn’t hear about that one. I like good historical writing but I wouldn’t read anything by BillO. I am actually reading McCullough’s Wright Brothers book right now and it’s a great read. McCullough is one of my favorite historians. He’s fair to his subjects without overlooking their faults.

Yeah, there this flawed conception that something government-run can’t be optimal or effective in economic terms. Because that is the only instance privatization will provide the advertised effects, otherwise it will make the something deteriorate.

Thing is, there is well run and there is badly run government agencies, just like there are well run and badly run businesses. Yet, conservo’s always turn a blind eye when businesses are run badly in a way which they would be horrified to learn a govt agency was run.
