American Kidnapped in Pakistan

World • Views: 2,328

An American worker for the United Nations has been kidnapped in Pakistan, by people whose fists are apparently tightly clenched.

QUETTA, Pakistan – Authorities searched for an American U.N. worker kidnapped Monday in southwestern Pakistan in an attack that underscored the security threats in the country as it battles al-Qaida militants.

The government called the abduction a “dastardly terrorist act,” but police said it was not clear whether Islamist militants, criminals seeking a ransom payment or members of a regional separatist group were responsible.

Gunmen seized John Solecki, head of the U.N. refugee office in the city of Quetta, as he traveled to work Monday morning, and shot and killed his driver, U.N. and Pakistani officials said.

It's a sick world when you have to hope that someone was kidnapped by criminals, rather than clergy. The criminals might let him live.

5 Randall Gross  Mon, Feb 2, 2009 8:51:28am

This could be BLA, TTP, or numerous groups - I wouldn't get too far out in front on declaring who. Most likely is someone looking for leverage to stop drone attacks.

There are things lower...

Hospitals as bunkers...

Elementary School kids as human shields...

Churches as munitions depots...

The American was a "uniformed" member of the UN. He was a target whether people want to admit the risk that exists against the UN or not.

Meanwhile, the Pakistanis are busy fighting with Taliban in Swat, and at least 45 civilians have been killed, 16 Taliban, and four Pakistani security. Where's the international outcry, the war crimes charges, and the demands that Pakistan put down their weapons.

Oh wait, that's only when Israel accidentally kills civilians. When the rest of the world does it to ensure their own security, it's acceptable losses.

The thing is, I don't blame the Pakistani forces for those civilian casualties. The Taliban are to blame for them, as they continue their insurgency against the Pakistani government in Islamabad, and they continue providing aid and comfort to al Qaeda.

Daschle: I’m Sorry

Thomas A. Daschle, fighting to defend his nomination to be secretary of health and human services, released a letter early today apologizing to the top lawmakers on the Senate Finance Committee for mistakes on his personal income tax returns that resulted in $146,000 in back payments.

“I am deeply embarrassed and disappointed by the errors that required me to amend my tax returns,” he wrote to Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa). “I apologize for the errors and profoundly regret that you have had to devote time to them.”

He's only sorry you got busted.

If we are going to use the Geithner test then what kind of unique qualifications does he have that we can't live without him as HHS Secretary?

To use his own words, this is OUTRAGEOUS.

116 rumcrook  Mon, Feb 2, 2009 9:15:37am

I listened to some of the audio of that poor kid berg screaming while the [bigoted word] cut off his head.

becuase I never wanted to have an excuse to be lulled into thinking political islam could be reasoned with.

im sure the un officials father will come out and tell us how this was either the U.S. fault, or juice. ala nick's father.

you know I just googled that and I was flooded with links trying to say it was a fake false flag operation. its sickening. why some people will do literally anything not to blame muslim fanatics for what they do or are!

During the election, didn't you hear the media sing.....

Black boys are delicious
Chocolate flavored love
Licorice lips like candy
Keep my cocoa handy
I have such a sweet tooth
When it comes to love

Once I tried a diet
Of quiet, rest, no sweets
But I went nearly crazy
And I went clearly crazy
Because I really craved for
My chocolate flavored treats

Black boys are nutritious
Black boys fill me up
Black boys are so damn yummy
They satisfy my tummy
I have such a sweet tooth
When it comes to love
Black black black black
black black black black
Black boys

Oh wait, that's only when Israel accidentally kills civilians. When the rest of the world does it to ensure their own security, it's acceptable losses.

Total number of Arabs killed in all Arab-Israeli wars since 1948: 40,000
Total number of Muslims killed in all Muslim-Muslim wars since 1948: 11,000,000

In other words, Israel has killed 0.36% of the number of Muslims that other Muslims have killed since 1948.

Course, that isn't Barry's fault. It's the eeevil American military, controlled by eeeevil Republicans or something.

Being that the captive is an American working for the U.N. makes me think that the guy voted for Barry. So for Barry, I am assuming that the guy is worth negotiating for?

But....

Scrappleface has the overall strategy.
//Quite sensible

“With the IRS underfunded as it is,” said Mr. Gibbs, “this collection method is much more efficient than dispatching field agents. Arresting these men, or compelling them to pay penalties would take years, and make them feel bad about themselves. The president’s method not only gets more money to the government to help our economy, but provides a self-esteem boost by giving these wealthy men important-sounding titles.”

The Obama administration will reportedly expand the program by creating hundreds, perhaps thousands, of additional cabinet posts, available to any rich person willing to “fess up and settle up” with the IRS.

Doesnt matter if you have 1 man in trouble or 1000 men. If he is your man, you go and get him.

Fucking politicians have been far too willing for far too long to write people off as acceptable losses.

Obama is unaware of the whole "no man left behind" philosphy. He comes from the "every man for himself and the devil take the hindmost," philosophy. Which is closely related to the "Hooray for me to Hell with you," philosophy.

You come from a wildly different world of experience.

I don't mean what terrorists consider fair game, that list is too large to list, but what USCMSNE seemed to imply was that he was fair game from a laws of war perspective.

Of course even if he was a uniformed combatant, his captors would still need to allow the Red Cross/Crescent access to him. Don't see that happening...
