A source said: “There is a wish to do these things as discreetly as possible in the first instance.”
President Obama, famed for his Yes We Can slogan, will fly with wife Michelle on Air Force One to Stansted, Essex.
The private talks will be held the next day at Buckingham Palace.
Mr Obama will then join the G20 leaders for a Downing Street dinner on the eve of the summit on April 2.
Last night it emerged he gave Gordon Brown 25 top US movies as a gift after talks in the US.
Mr Brown’s wife Sarah gave Mr Obama’s two daughters Topshop outfits. And the First Lady gave Mr Brown’s two boys toy helicopters.

Okay as a curator let me say that it was NOT Obama's place to return the bust. IMO it is the property of the White House archives and artifacts. Or he could have sent it to the Bush II Presidential Library when it opens. I am not certain when we got the bust was this while Bush was POTUS or before. Okay thanks for the link.
It sounds like a permanent loan.
In museums we often receive permanent loans when we recieve a gift from another collection but for whatever reason the collection's deed of gift says that no item shall ever be deaccessioned. Clearly this is supported by teh bust being moved down the street rather than back to the UK.
If this is the case, Obama is uncouth.

1. It took two tries to get her site to load, so I think this link may be doubling, tripling, quadrupling the traffic...
2. Meryl and Charles are huge fans of each other. Meryl was very active in the VB threads and added lots of info.
3. Meryl's blog rocks also!
264 | Throbert McGee Thu, Mar 5, 2009 7:58:48pm |
Note that the top comment at Meryl's post is a whine about how Charles cruelly persecuteth people who think that God used evolution as an instrument of creation.
Seems like Lao Stinky's oft-posted aphorism needs a corollary:
Belief in an intelligent designer behind the Universe does not obligate you to be a sucker for Intelligent Design™.
Rejection of Intelligent Design™ does not obligate you to reject belief in an intelligent designer behind the Universe.

Because it was not in the British press link I posted. So now we have a problem that Obama preferred a bust of Lincoln to one of Churchill in his own office ? No, just missing facts that change the story.

is it still satire when someone needs to explain the satire?
269 | Olderthandirt Thu, Mar 5, 2009 8:11:30pm |
Will that little scam artiste who used to rip off tourists by selling phony baloney Cable Car tickets be prancing around Ghirardelli Square while Charles is being publicly flogged (And then frog-marched through the square!)? If so, someone should point out that miscreant jerk and holler: "You're busted!"
Of course, one advantage, if that, is that finally we'll be able to see Zombie in all Zombie's glory. Pity that that mystery shall be no more!
However, one question remains: What will the world do then to M. Yourish! Will she get what she deserves, which is what, exactly?

I don't get the big deal about the fact not mentioned. The bust was on loan to GW, BHO wanted the Lincoln bust and returned the loaned one. The DVD deal was crap, but the bust was not.

You all could make some money out of this. Set up a gauntlet for you all to run. For $100 (or whatever you want) anyone can stand in the gauntlet and flock you as you RUN by. It will serve two great purposes: (1) Prove none of you are wimps. (2) You could make millions. Who wants to be the lead runner?

After that sexually pervert Clinton, and that stupid Carter, I feel sorry for African Americans who end up with there 1st president. After people like Rice and Powell, we end up with one who is going to move the recession into the next Great Depression, while getting his friends rich. No, not poor people. The dead beat not paying taxes democraps, the unions, who are just another level of management, and other useless social programs. The poor will get worse. They are going to regret having him around. I have worked with unions. Where the union officials were fat cats. And if you were a hard worker, you got the same pay as the gut who slept in the warehouse but were the first out the door a quiting time, but were 'buddies' with the union reps. They deserve a real leader, not a leftist hack.

Charles ,
For someone to rail on about other people riding a bicycle for sport is really stupid for starters , but I can still see little reason for you to complain even about someone else when they do this .
When I started reading your blog some 6 years ago I became glued to it due to your impassioned protests against religious fanaticism , mainly the jihadists .
I dunno what religion Meryl practices , but in the end it's all the same difference, all religious organisations have their aspects of fanaticism .
To believe or not believe is not the question , rather allowing for everyman a freedom of personal choice in their beliefs is .

I find this comment very ironic coming from someone who down dinged me on re: #26 Amer-I-Can. Of course it is SATIRE, I don't understand your actions or comments.
We have this thing called a sarc tag (see Charles' main post, above). It lets people know when you're being funny.
Anyway, since you obviously did get the memo, I've undinged your #26, along with some other people's comments that I overreacted to. I was in a really bad mood last night and Meryl is a friend. Sorry.

re: #297 MJBrutus
I would never know who this clown or Jimbo were if it weren't for you bothering to mention them. They should be grateful for the crumbs you've just thrown them.
Meryl is not a clown. She's a founding mother of the neo-con blogosphere. Admittedly she was more influential in 2002 than she is now, but that's the fault of a feckless American public and not a fault in her site.
(Agreed that Jimbo is increasingly showing a lack of blog skillz - but that's the topic of the previous thread.)

After that sexually pervert Clinton, and that stupid Carter, I feel sorry for African Americans who end up with there 1st president.
I don't think it has sunk in yet with black professionals that BHO might be the problem, not the solution. But it has sunk in that we're in a "great depression". I first heard that phrase last month from a black project manager at a chemical site; they're scaling back orders heavily.

Ditto--I responded to both what Charles wrote and the article. I don't think what I posted deserved a down ding either. And, as long as I'm at it--sometimes people are tired and they just don't notice the sarc tag, so cut them some slack. Most lizards are helpful in that way, letting you know you missed it. Save your down dings for the true as*hats on this board.

Mery's blog is great....except for the cats. She's obsessed with cats.
That's a reason to hate her.
Let's all jump on the Hate Meryl Yourish's cats bandwagon.
That's more important than the very thoughtful pieces she and SoccerDad and SnoopytheGoon put out...
It's those damn cats...worse than pictures of tankers off the southern California coast and endless bicycle rides...
I even tried to help her find an orange Maine Coon kitten once...I can't believe I did that.

They have all the news media fawning on him. Pravda all over again. It does not help with the teachers union going far left and even Stalinist leftist college profs. They were bad in the 80's, yet alone now. As I college guy who went to a Big 10 university with a full blown ROTC scholarship, they hated me then! It is no surprise they have gotten worse.
