Simultaneous bombing attacks at two hotels in Jakarta, Indonesia, have killed at least four people.

JAKARTA, July 17 (Bernama) — Two explosions occurred in Ritz Carlton and Marriott hotels in Jakarta on Friday morning, killing at least four people and wounding tens of others, China’s Xinhua news agency reported quoting Local Metro television as saying.

The first blast took place at 7:55 Jakarta time (0055 GMT) and minutes later the second one occurred, before the hotels were open. The two hotels were located in opposite.

“Two explosions have taken place in two locations,” south Jakarta district police Commissioner Firmnan said.

An eye witness said she saw at least three foreigners with blood on their bodies were carried out to an ambulance. The wounded persons were rushed to nearby Jakarta Hospital.

The Ritz Carlton hotel was set to be the place for upcoming visit of Manchester United team.

A police special bomb squad is checking the blasts.

Afterthought--hotels close? How? The front desk? The restaurant areas? The non-guest areas?

Trying to picture this.

They trained the Indonesian Islamist groups, so much of what those groups do is straight out of Bin Laden's playbook. Scum.

The Chinese are putting people with "Flu like symptoms" and those they have been in contact with them into Quarantine. Committing such a crime in Indonesia is a dilemma. While with ordinary crime the Indonesians can't solve a parking ticket, when it comes to terrorism they are among the best in the world. They will find the culprits. The Indonesians will arrest them. Then they will figure out a way to let them go after the publicity dies down.

The facade of the Ritz-Carlton hotel was blown off in one blast, while a further explosion hit the neighbouring Marriott hotel just seconds later.

At least three injured people were seen being taken away from the Ritz.
Sky

According to one user of web messaging service Twitter, the bombs hit the coffee shops of the two hotels, where business breakfast meetings were taking place.

"Left location. Shocked. Lots of blood," wrote user Daniel Tumiwa.

A picture posted by another user, Andre Siregar, showed the glass front of the Ritz Carlton shattered and strewn on the floor.

Jakarta's Marriott Hotel was badly damaged by a car bomb attack in 2003 that killed 12 people.

That coincided with a period when Islamists militants carried out numerous attacks, including bombings in Bali in 2002 that killed 202 people. Many militants have since been arrested.

Baruch Dayan Emet.

I was taking time today to explain to someone who expressed an interest the recent history of these jihadi groups and with illustration from sites such as LGF their present methods and mindset, all the while aware of the need to be calm and introspect. Apart from something about a Gaza missile that hurt no one I didn't see what other atrocities jihadis were up to today, but stuff like this is makes any introspection feel pretty much redundant, and I can't say that's a good thing either. Damn bombs. Damn bastards.

I just spent half a year in Jakarta. May not may be qualified to say much, but here are my initial reactions to the news:
1. The connection to the Manchester visit is important. The city has been anticipating this visit for months. Manchester United figures are ubiquitous in billboard ads. Beyond the immediate deaths, this is a shot in the face of popular culture.
2. Indonesia just finished their electoral cycle. Even the moderate Islamists (those not inclined towards violence) failed to make much headway in the legislative contest. People like the bland but relatively competent governance of the incumbent president SBY. Violent Islamists conducting a bombing campaign so soon after an election campaign suggests a ‘bombs over ballots’ argument has quickly won out in at least some extremist circles. One attack does not make a trend, but it is something to consider.

Hopefully they find the guys behind this quickly and introduce them to a firing squad.

We must apologize for our infidel transgression of the prophet's holy lands. (unwritten chapters of the koran certainly chronicle his travels and consecrations of lands from Indonesia to Toronto). Our (through our evil corporations) building of hotels (which provide local employment) and our tourism (which provides local dollars/currency) have insidiously provided the prophet's followers with a glimpse of the western-centric concept of a decent standard of living.
