Merry Christmas, Mr. President. I mostly disagree with you, but I hope your Christmas is a joyful and blessed time for you and your family.

My Christmas wishes for all Christians at LGF! Many good wishes for the coming year for everyone else. I appreciate the religious diversity of this site. Much for me to learn from others, that's for sure.
God's Blessings for our President and nation. May 2010 be blessed with peace, strength, and prosperity for our fellow citizens.
Thank you Lord God for your Son Jesus Christ. Thanksgiving for answering my heart's desires.

The Twelve Pains of Christmas

80 SteveMcG  Wed, Dec 23, 2009 8:12:56pm

Every year, as Christmas draws nearer, my life gets more compressed with each day. On top of my daily overload is the approaching deadline of Christmas day, and it's actually a false deadline because of all of the last minute prep to host my family. There aren't enough hours to work, sleep, eat, tend the house. In the week before Christmas I go from 4 hours of sleep to maybe a nap, or a zone out at me desk. I don't know why I sweat it. By about 3 o'clock on the afternoon of the 24th, ready or not, I realize it just doesn't matter. I'll pull an all nighter playing Santa for my daughter and my nieces and nephews, but I could care less. The 36 hours of Christmas eve night and Christmas day are the most peaceful of my life in spite of the kids, in laws and everybody else. I don't know why, or how, but in spite of it all, the two months between Halloween and Christmas are my favorite time of year. It's my time to dream of the world the way I want it to be, I can bring joy to the kids I love, it's as if by decorating my house just the way I want it I am carving out my own little corner of the world. I can't get enough of the Christmas music on the radio (even though the two stations playing them skip so many good ones). This Christmas in my little home.

BTW is it me or is that "Mary Did you Know?" song the stupidest Christmas song ever?

I'm not a drummer, of course played with a lot of them, never saw any other grip than the jazz grip, not when I was playing.

I was under the impression that when a Brit sang, the accent dropped almost automatically... I thought you actually had to "think" about the accent in order to retain it.

If that's not what you meant, that's fine.

I'm not a drummer, of course played with a lot of them, never saw any other grip than the jazz grip, not when I was playing.

I was under the impression that when a Brit sang, the accent dropped almost automatically... I thought you actually had to "think" about the accent in order to retain it.

Matched grip makes more sense when you play heavy music and do a lot of poundey floor tom tribal-sounding stuff. 8-) All my favorite drummers who a rock drummers play matched, except Mark Zonder, who is essentially a virtuoso jazz drummer who happens to be in a metal band.

I love it, but that's because the first time I heard it it was done by the kids in the choir at the school I used to teach at. It made my hair stand on end, the way they did it. I heard it on the radio the other day and wasn't as impressed.

re: #80 SteveMcG

You're the man.

"You're crowding me, Sam. You ought to know by now I don't like to be crowded."

Well, Cliff was a genius! He was a primary songwriter, and the band never really accepted Newsted by all accounts. He was basically mixed out of Justice For All, which has some of the shittiest tinny production I've ever heard in a metal record. The songs are still great, though.

In my favorite metal records of all time, Master looms large, along with Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime, Maiden's Seventh Son, and Crack the Skye by Mastodon.

re: #90 Walter L. Newton

I really can't watch videos, I'm on a desktop computer, wireless connection to the DSL router, and my actual speed by the time the data gets to my desktop is too slow for a lot of videos, they come in jerky... pieces... the streaming ones do.

One way to work around this:

1. Right-click and open the link in a new window.

2. Let the video start loading, and then click "Pause." You can then go read other pages in other windows while the video loads.

3. Come back to the video window a few minutes later. The video will usually have loaded, so you can click "Play" to watch the video without jerks or interruptions. (Unless, of course, you have a lot of jerks at your end. I can't help with that.//)

I greatly enjoy your posts, Walter.

My father's father was a Mason. My dad wasn't allowed to be a DeMolay boy, because they didn't take Catholic back then.

My dad tries to engage the Lyndon LaRouche people about how high up in the Masons you have to be to know about the conspiracy--did his father, for instance, know about it? They can't seem to give him a straight answer.

As long as I've been here, I shouldn't have to be reminded. This topic was discussed on one of the podcast audio magazines I listen to. Someone proposed making Oct 1st the official "donate" day --simply because people honestly forget to make it part of their budget--I think that applies to blogs as well.

Tax time is a great time (for those of us who *usually* get refunds). I think people are supporting charities and the military at this time of year. Those Salvation Army guys get at least a $1 every time I see them and I see them a lot (love to Christmas shop).

I'd love to say I'd be one that makes a point of posting about it come April --maybe if I write in my tax & bill files. . . . .

Ex-President Carter offers apology to Jews
Carter's apology was welcomed by Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League and a vocal critic of Carter's views on Israel.

"When a former president reaches out to the Jewish community and asks for forgiveness, it's incumbent of us to accept it," he said in a telephone interview from Jerusalem. "To what extent this is an epiphany, only time will tell. There certainly was a lot of hurt, a lot of angry words that need to be repaired. But this is a good start."

Merry Xmas to all from an avowed Atheist [raised Catholic] and right-leaning Centrist [raised Republican] … oddly [I guess], I have celebrated Xmas with my family every year of my life [that I can recall] to-date.

I met a really hot chinese woman that I thought was a Buddhist on a biz-trip to Southeast Asia in 1998; we married in 2003 and have had 2 kids since.

Some time in the last couple weeks, the wife and I had a discussion about where our elder kid would be going to school next yr … the Catholic parish school I went to [for 12 years; primary and secondary] or the local public school … at this point, it became clear that she did not know who Jesus Christ was or what Xmas was based on … after I described the mythology of JC, the history of the Catholic Church and what Xmas is based on, I asked her, for the first time, what she actually believed in … go figure; after over ten years I found out … she said that she is an atheist.

Merry Christmas.

Yeah, I know it! I remember playing PST around Christmas in 2000, before I moved to Portland, everyone I lived with was playing it. Good times!

If there was an ornament showing Pol Pot, or worse David Duke, would there be any outrage?

If it was a reproduction of a Warhol commentary on them... no, I would not be outraged.

The LA Times is on the ornament story. A Warhol Christmas at the White House

Oh, and at the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House, the National Gallery of Art has 21 different versions of Warhol's "Mao." Twenty-one. Wait until Big Government bloggers find out about the Communist takeover of the National Gallery.
