Repost before bashing Boner. And I am going to be calling him boner from now on.

Let me compare and contrast some things about the GOP here that just occurred to me.

The GOP's version of a respectable lady: Using Palin, Angle and the Gun Twit from Az as examples:

Conspiracy loons
Uneducated (and proudly so)
Jesus Freaks
Uncaring for poor people
Uncaring about the environment
No particular policy ideas
Rabidly anti woman's rights
Pretty, in a teased hair, too much make up, trashy shiksa kind of way

And they call these ladies by honorifics and think the are just swell.

Now let's look at Kagan

Considered even tempered and fair by both sides of the aisle (before she became a target)
Not only extremely well educated, but brilliant and highly qualified
Secular Jewish
Compassionate for the poor
No record of hating the environment
Career history with policy and the law pertaining to it
Feminist (in an educated and strong professional woman sort of way)
Kinda plump (but more about being competent and kick ass than dolling up for the camera, in other words, a woman with a real spine)

And the GOP calls her a lesbian (as if she were - she isn't it - and as if that is an insult -it isn't) a baby killer (no not at all) and a Marxist (which she absolutely is not - not that the GOP could define Marxism in any case).

So in other words, the GOP is deeply offended by women with actual competence and ability, but vapid wannabe beauty contestants who can't tell you where most nations are on a map are models of womanhood.

That would be one of the more strong reasons I hate the GOP.

And you forgot Pamela Gormon's chief qualification: A steady hand with a Tommy Gun to rival Machine Gun Jack McGurn. He next ad will likely show her mowing down some "Evil Special Interest Prog" with her Thompson before leaving a nickel in his dead hand.

/The nickle was McGurn's calling card when he killed for Al Capone and the Outfit. And I am kidding about her next ad.

It touches directly on them in that I read the papers about them in order to promote their efficacy as part of a solution - but professionally I am on the fluid physics and chaotic dynamics end of things

There is just one major problem about that whole party of Lincoln thing... The modern GOP hates Lincoln and they really hate civil rights and black and brown people.

This should not be a surprise - ever since all of those Dixiecrats became GOP in opposition to Civil Rights anyway.

In other words, the Republican party of Lincoln would be the educated Dems of today - but of course, that is why they hate him so much.

One quibble:
The moratorium is not supposed to cover anything but deep-water drilling.
Except all drilling is now suspended, included non deep-water drilling.
No permits are being issued.

Maddow really tears Boehner a new one. His comment about the financial regulation bill was utterly stupid and she runs it back on him for all its worth. It's like watch an underpowered quarterback throwing short passes to tight ends against a Chicago Bears linebacker corps at full health. The TE's get plastered and Boehner does too.

OK, he said something honest about the future of Social Security and raising the age limit, and she made fun of him for it. The BP comment was idiotic, but I kind of respect him for telling it like it is on Social Security; I don't think we should be saying, "what an idiot! Doesn't he know he should lie (or lie by omission at least) so he can be elected!"

Rachel is truly amazing. She consistently knows the details of an issue, and on her FB page asks, on a daily basis, for them to do their homework before the show and also elicits information from said fans to help her in her own info gathering. Leaderships qualities if ever I saw them. I'm so glad she's out there doing what she does.

Sadly the right knows how to sing the tribalist song much better than the left. They know how to tell their audience just how justified they are in their anger and prejudice towards anything "other." I know the left has their fair share of that same behavior, but that's not the dynamic I'm most concerned about right now. The bad crazy is much more of a right issue than a left issue currently. Rachel is actually pretty nuanced in her analysis, contra Keith, who regularly goes over the top. The distinction is that she thinks before she speaks, unlike those on the fringes of the left or right. That's why I like her and I suspect she has poorer ratings. Complexity is almost never popular.

It'll never happen, because the right is more monolithic and goes to fewer places for its information. There is not the market on the left for a show that will pull the kind of influence that a Hannity or an O'Reilly or a Limbaugh. It'll never happen, because the demographic isn't there. You can't get young people to watch cable news. o'Reilly has the nunbers, because his demographic is what media people call the "65 to dead" demographic. Monolithic and devoted, and used to getting their information from television.

The REAL question is: how valuable is the demo? I can about guarantee that Maddow's watchers, which skew far far younger, on average have more disposable income

I'm not sure you're right about that last, but even if you were it still isn't enough, given that when show A has triple the ratings of show B, it does not matter too much if show B's views have 10% more disposable income.

I don't care about the ratings of any of the shows in question. What I do care about is what's being said. Rachel just makes more sense and consistently works from demonstrable facts. That's what's important to me.

Well, Boehner's family ran or runs a bar in beautiful (not) Reading, Ohio, just up the street from where I lived during HS, college, and later for seven more years. So he knows all about "plastered".

I lived in District 8 for 14 years and never voted for Boehner once. District 8 is the safest Repub district in the state; great people but not too bright when it comes to their representation.

Now I have Steve "the Dweeb" Driehaus as my Congresscritter after the voters actually had the backbone to throw Steve "Combover" Chabot out. Driehaus' big problem is that the party tells him to vote one way and the Catholic Church says the other; he doesn't know which of his masters to obey. And to the east, we have the even more intellectually challenged Jean Schmidt, whom I won't even discuss.

They're ALL an embarrassment.
