So, I wanted to post on the earlier thread, but got busy. I have a story to share. Actually two, but I’ll skip the first for the sake of brevity.

I was pretty young when 9/11 happened. An adult, but still young.

My friend came over in the afternoon and we watched TV. Same footage with no new info. It occurred to us that it was Tuesday, and Tuesday was league bowling night. We first thought there was no way it was still going on. But the alley was a short walk from my home, so we decided to take a walk and see what was up. I mean, why not? We were sick of watching the news at that point anyway.

So we show up at the bowling alley. Everyone was there. So we took our lanes like any other Tuesday. It was surreal, as the TVs were playing the news, right next to the monitors showing our scores.

The next lane over was this guy. Big guy, beer belly, always chomping on a cigar. A real Grabowski. Se one frame we are both waiting for the bowling balls to kick back.

Me: This is strange.
Him: What is strange?
Me: I don’t know. Bowling. Drinking. While all this shit is going on.
Him: Well, we aren’t going to let those fuckers stop us, now are we?

Of all the events that day, that little convo is burned in my memory more than anything.

Police arrest man, then give him bike

(CNN) — Police officers in central Taiwan arrested a man for stealing a bicycle this week and originally planned to lock him up for theft charges.

However, the police later discovered that the man was so poor that they not only did not prosecute him but instead decided to donate a bike to him.

According to police officers in central Taiwan’s Chiayi County, the man stole the bicycle from a high school near his home in order to help save his daughter time in walking from her vocational school to the hospital.

His daughter usually walked 10 kilometers (6 miles) to take care of him in the hospital. The man has often been ill and has had to be hospitalized, police said.

Police said that the man originally told his daughter that he had bought the bicycle second-hand.

However, later the former owner of the bike recognized it. Both father and daughter were taken in by the police.

Police officers learned that the man was living in desperate conditions, with no access to water or electricity and was living in an empty shipping container beside a graveyard.

Chiayi police officers not only did not press charges against the old man but jointly bought a new bike for the girl.

So it’s a bad thing to increase religious tolerance and understanding? Really?

If that’s the case, we might as well toss out the First Amendment now, seeing as how the government can’t exactly ban Islam or stop people from going to a mosque, no matter what Bolton, Geller, Wilders and all these other freaks want.

Re: Newt Gingrich’s comments that Obama has a “Kenyan anti-imperialist worldview.”

“This is a person who is fundamentally out of touch with how the world works, who happened to have played a wonderful con, as a result of which he is now president,” Gingrich tells us.

On the contrary, it is the eye of Newt and the other ingredients in the toxic brew the wingnut media keep cooking up that seems to have no contact with reality.
This bizarre statement about the duly elected President of the United States is a case in point. Which is he, Newt? Slick Chicago lawyer or MauMau agitator? Of course, most of Newt’s audience would know nothing of the MauMau or Kenyan anti-colonialism; but it sounds oh so learned and plausible so they will eat it up.

On August 14, 2002, Williams collapsed while in the band’s tour bus in Manassas, Virginia. The 30-year-old singer died from cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscle which he had not been diagnosed with and, as such, was unaware he had.

Hi Hoops,
You can take my sister’s family off too. They’re slowly moving on from a hard time.

I don’t think I told his story at the time. John was an Iraq vet from the Wisconsin National Guard. He & his father had been deployed for a year with a combat engineer battalion. They built bridges, schools, and all the good things we did over there. They took no casualties in the unit while there. So they get home & we’re have a big welcome home party but he didn’t make it. He’d been in a car accident and was left paralyzed from the neck down. That was a couple of years back; then in May, complications caught up with him and he passed away suddenly. The prayers of everyone here were helpful to all concerned.

Thank you.

There’s a comedian who has a great bit about concerts. Says they should have one for adults before the real concert. High points were…
1. Concert starts at 7, is over by 8.
2. The main hit of the artist is first… not saved for encore.
3. Only do the hits. No “B” side shit.
4. No long drum/guitar solos (unless it is in the hit song being played on the radio)
5. No one is allowed to stand or sing along.
6. Stop selling shit tshirts and stuff. (I think his joke was) “Howabout an REO Speedwagon Toaster Cozy!”

The colts have an O-line problem again this year and it could be an issue. I was kind of surprised they didn’t draft any O-line players this last year because they had the same problems last year. I’m wondering if they’re going to be able to run the ball worth a damn. They have the skill players but they need a better line. September 12…interesting how the last two years has had more news coverage about protests (Glenn Beck last year, Geller this year) than there has memorial services visited by the Administration…not that those require a lot of coverage…10 minutes would have been respectful enough. Tea Partiers Descend On DC For 9/12 Rally Today

Today, thousands of angry conservatives will march from the Washington Monument to the front lawn of the Capitol where they’ll be fired up by plenty of rhetorical lighter fluid from a conservative speaker corps including Andrew Breitbart, Dick Armey and Erick Erickson. Much like they did the last several times they headed to DC, the speakers are expected to declare the rally the end of the line for Democrats.

Yea, the Alaska rally was the other one.

Manji was great. She talked about more moderates speaking out (as in Muslim Americans) instead of letting radical Islam alone influence this debate which is what’s happening. She also pointed out that Al Queda has killed more Muslims than any other group of people. Also true.

I wish she had more time to speak, but she’s right on. Allowing the radicals to frame this debate is ridiculous. Meaning that we can’t change our laws or be influenced by what radicals want. Part of what I found disturbing (and I don’t know if this is exactly what Manji meant) was telling the pastor to stop burning the books because the Afghans don’t like it. Excuse me but fuck them and what they like. WE DON’T LIKE IT. And yes, it was within his right as a citizen to burn the Koran, but through diplomacy, he changed his mind, not through terror. That is a point that I don’t believe has been driven home.

It’s fun. We were dealing with a not as savvy about Shakespeare as we might have liked crowd, so we had to work hard on the jokes. The nice thing about the script is that they encourage you to do different things. So instead of Juliet mounting a pole, we had her climb a ladder and exclaim. “Romeo, oh Romeo. Original space shuttle toilet had a whirling blade mounted just inches below the user’s personal equipment to emulsify the intake so it could be stored in a tank.

First time that stuff was supposed to hit the fan, near as I can tell.

“She was black, as the night.
Louie was whiter than white…”

Our record against them is 15-1.. Yet all the talking heads are picking them against us..I don’t care..I’m out of here soon anyway and will be going to Cowboy parties soon.. ( I hate the Cowboys)

Take it from a Cowgirl hater who lived in OKC many moons ago—Keep that fact to yourself unless you’re in “polite” company. Okies are of the “you live here, therefore you root for the local team, and if you grew up here, you must remain a fan of ‘our’ teams” persuasion.

re: #206 SanFranciscoZionist

Didn’t he also not realize that his ‘Restoring Honor’ thing was the anniversary of the March on Washington?

Doesn’t he have any historical context?

//

To Beck and his type, “context” means Against The Text.

Here is a story about a brutha called Othello
he liked white women and he liked green…jello

-The Compleat Works of William Shakespeare abridged.

Directed this show at our local community theatre. If you get a chance to see it, please do. It’s a hoot.

Can be. I’ve seen several productions of it and auditioned for one (didn’t get cast—the auditions were a joke, pro forma only, the director had already chosen three of his pals). Some work, some don’t. “Complete History of America” is great if done well, too.
