Julian Assange is about to experience our justice system...

Assange attorney: Secret grand jury meeting in Virginia on WikiLeaks

A secret grand jury in Alexandria, Virginia, is meeting to consider criminal charges in the WikiLeaks case, an attorney for the site's founder, Julian Assange, told the Al-Jazeera network in an interview.

"We have heard from Swedish authorities there has been a secretly empaneled grand jury in Alexandria. ... They are currently investigating this," Mark Stephens told Al-Jazeera's Sir David Frost on Sunday, referring to WikiLeaks. The site, which facilitates the disclosure of secret information, has been slowly releasing a trove of more than 250,000 U.S. diplomatic cables since November 28.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said last week that he had authorized "significant" actions related to a criminal investigation into WikiLeaks' publication of the cables but has declined to elaborate.

Media chiefs throw support behind WikiLeaks

Some of Australia's most senior media professionals, including bosses of major newspapers, television networks and websites, have written to Prime Minister Julia Gillard to express their support for WikiLeaks.

The letter was initiated by the board of the Walkley Foundation, Australia's professional journalism organisation.

You threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you ?
People'd call, say, "Beware troll, you're bound to fall"
You thought they were all kiddin' you
You used to laugh about
Everybody that was hangin' out
Now you don't talk so loud
Now you don't seem so proud
About having to be scrounging for your next blog.

Operation Payback Has New Target: Corporate Fax Machines

The activists behind Operation Payback have come up with a new way to annoy corporations that have severed their ties with WikiLeaks: bombard them with faxes.

In online chats, group members have posted the fax numbers for about a half-dozen corporations and are calling volunteers to fill up the fax machines, using free online fax services such as MyFax.com and FaxZero.com. They're recommending that people use anonymizing software such as the Tor Project to access these sites, so that they cannot be traced by authorities.

The latest development comes after websites belonging to Visa, MasterCard International and PayPal have been hit with distributed denial of service attacks, launched by Operation Payback in an effort to pressure the companies to resume payment processing for WikiLeaks.

"The enemy is adapting to our strategies, Gentlemen, but they are a lumbering bureaucracy. We can change faster," the group said in a note being circulated on its chat servers Monday.

Activists are encouraged to send images of Guy Fawkes or random excerpts from WikiLeaks' leaked U.S. Department of State cables to the fax numbers.

Paul Mutton, a security analyst with the Netcraft Web monitoring firm, said that it's not clear how damaging the fax campaign has been. Within hours of its launch, the online chatroom set up to coordinate the fax attacks had 73 members, he said.

Battery died today. So, I am walking through neighborhood for someone with jumper cables. No one was home or had jumper cables.

Was about to give up and walked to a house with a SUV in the driveway with the tailgate open. Laying out on the tailgate? Jumper cables.

Knocked on the door for ten minutes. No answer. Walked over to a lady who was willing to help me and asked her if she'd vouch for me to the owner if I just took them out of the car, that I wasn't stealing them.

Took them. She was kind enough to give me a jump (no, that's not what the kids are calling it nowadays). Took them back to the house.

The homeowner had just pulled up (I swear, I was gone for less than 10 minutes.) Explained to him what had happened. Wasn't expecting him to be mad or happy... didn't know what to expect.

Heh...

Julian Assange sought women from countries in 'political turmoil'

JULIAN Assange's weapon of choice - the internet - may have just been turned against him.

A dating profile fitting the description of the notoriously private Wikileaks whistleblower surfaced today, revealing a man who confesses to being “87% slut” with an appetite for “spirited erotic non-conformist” women.

The apparent insight into the Australian computer whiz’s preferences comes as Assange is preparing to face a high stakes extradition hearing over allegations of sexual assault against two Swedish women. Assange denies all claims.

The profile, on OkCupid.com, is not under Assange’s name, and has not been confirmed as belonging to him, though photographs posted on the webpage bear an uncanny resemblance.

The author of the page, going by the name of Harry Harrison, declares: “Passionate, and often pig headed activist intellectual seeks siren for love affair, children and occasional criminal conspiracy.”

The page was last visited by its creator on January 1, 2007, before Assange gained an international profile as the founder of Wikileaks.

Harrison, who is described as being a 36-year-old, straight, single, male from Melbourne, admits to having "Asian teengirl stalkers".

Harrison writes that his job involves directing a consuming, dangerous human rights project and that he is involved in international journalism/books, documentaries, cryptography, intelligence agencies, civil rights, political activism, white collar crime and the internet.

One of the first things the entry says people notice about him is that he is often seen “carrying mystery brown paper packages tied up with strings”.

Harrison’s candid wishlist requests a “playful” woman aged 22-46 of “high intelligence” possessing “spunk, class & inner strength” and an ability “to think strategically about the world and the people she cares about.”

Asian Teen Has Sweaty Middle-Aged-Man Fetish

At first glance, 17-year-old Misaki Nakajima seems like any other shy and submissive Japanese schoolgirl. She loves shopping, text messaging, and the color pink. But beneath her wholesome exterior lies a wicked secret: Misaki Nakajima is consumed by sexual fantasies involving sweaty, middle-aged American men.

The shy Japanese nymph enjoys fantasizing about fat fortysomethings with excessive neck and back hair. "I can't explain it," said Nakajima, dressed in a pleated miniskirt and pure white knee socks. "There's just something about American men who are at least twice my age and nearly three times my body weight that totally drives me wild."

Harry Harrison wrote a character named "Slippery Jim DiGriz," a.k.a The Stainless Steel Rat:

He is a futuristic con man, thief and all-round rascal. He is charming and quick-witted, a master of disguise and martial arts, an accomplished bank robber, an expert on breaking and entering, and (perhaps most usefully) a skilled liar. A master of self-rationalization, the Rat frequently justifies his crimes by arguing that he is providing society with entertainment; and besides which, he only steals from institutions which have insurance coverage. He displays a strong morality, albeit in a much more restricted sense than is traditional. (For example, he will happily steal, but deplores killing.)[Link: en.wikipedia.org...]

Zombie Flick (for Iphone and Touch)

Image: 01--article_image.jpg

Zombie Flick is a wave-based game in which players have to fight back oncoming hordes of zombies with a variety of objects including soup cans, VHS tapes, bricks, wrenches and bananas. Flicking one's finger across the desired target sends the object flying in their direction, popping heads and shredding limbs.

(article is a little old, the game is no longer free, 1.99 at the Itune store)

128 Prononymous, rogue demon hunter  Mon, Dec 13, 2010 3:25:16pm

Hi folks,
I have been a long time lurker and didn't intend on jumping in just yet. But I figured this was as good a time as any to register.

A few of the basics: I am an ex-anarchist. I have a huge distrust of hierarchies (government, business, religion) because of their easily corrupted nature. But thinking logically about the subject I have realized that they are not only unavoidable, but necessary in some cases. My focus (well, one of them) now is on thinking about how and why corruption happens and how to avoid and rectify it. As for my name, I couldn't think of an exact opposite for the "A" prefix. IMO, seeing everyone else as nameless and faceless and feeling nameless and faceless yourself has very real psychological impact. We evolved as social creatures and that has real world influence on our mental health and interaction with others. Yet I fully support the ability to remain anonymous on the internet (social interaction should be encouraged, but voluntary), something I feel that Anonymous may, ironically, destroy.

Anyway, I don't know if I am ready to fully come out of lurking just yet, but I figured I should introduce myself. Framing my introduction in terms of the recent tumult is just handy since it is on everyone's mind.
