I used it exactly once in more than 45,000 comments, and deleted it almost immediately because I regretted it and didn’t want to encourage its use. I didn’t recall posting it, and because it was marked deleted it didn’t show up in a search.

Yes. They seem to believe they’ve found the gotcha of life, because I once used it and immediately deleted it.
It actually demonstrates pretty nicely what I’ve been saying all along - I didn’t use it, and didn’t like it when others did. The one time I did use it, I deleted my own comment.
Sure would be nice if could remember every one of my 45,000+ comments verbatim. I wouldn’t need the LGF search engine.

It’s illustrative that they criticize you for “lying” about it, not for using it (as they say themselves). Having looked at some of their links, there was some tasteless stuff, especially the Cox&Forkum cartoon. But bygones are bygones, and at this point in time this kind of language and imagery is not welcome here, and it’s the likes of Patterico who post Corrie collages. That’s what matters.

A really easy quick and dirty cinnamon bun recipe:
1 loaf frozen white bread dough
1 stick butter
Cinnamon to taste
Brown sugar to taste
Preheat your oven to 350
Defrost and roll of the white bread dough into a rectangle.
Melt the butter
Stir in cinnamon and brown sugar until it makes a paste
Spread the paste over the dough
Roll the down up, cut into slices and place in a pan (I usually use 8”x8”)
bake for about 15 min or until golden brown
You can also make the rolls the night before and heat them up the in the morning.

McClatchy DC: How Congress helped thwart Obama’s plan to close Guantanamo
Two years after the newly minted Obama administration moved to undo what had become one of the most controversial legacies of the George W. Bush presidency by ordering the closure of the prison camps at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, a trove of State Department documents made public by the website WikiLeaks is providing new information about why that effort failed.Key among the factors, the cables suggest: Congress’ refusal to allow any of the captives to be brought to the United States.
In cable after cable sent to the State Department in Washington, American diplomats make it clear that the unwillingness of the United States to resettle a single detainee in this country — even from among 17 ethnic Muslim Uighurs considered enemies of China’s communist government — made other countries reluctant to take in detainees.

It was an imaginary war and they did stand a chance.
Three years ago I offered Martinez a dea, apologize to a female blogger he stalking and I would let him off.
He didn’t
Two years ago, I made him a similar offer, he ramped it up and Amanda Terkel gets stalked across state lines by one of Bill O’Reilly’s swarmy producers.
Of course twajie was humiliated on a epic scale, it’s so bizzare, it, goes beyond belief.
This year he is so wound up that he is staging an imaginary war against civility and intellectual honesty.
It’s time for Rick Martinez to seek some help, he is not well.
This isn’t a joke, it is me being sincere.

That is why we have to keep him spinning, what that means will become clear later.

From Wikipedia:Commonwealths Main article: Commonwealth (U.S. state)
Four of the states bear the formal title of commonwealth: Kentucky, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. In these cases, this is merely a historically-based name and it has no legal effect. Somewhat confusingly, the U.S. territories of the Northern Marianas and Puerto Rico are also referred to as commonwealths, and that designation does have a legal status different from that of the 50 states. Both of these commonwealths are unincorporated territories of the United States.

Well, my innovation is to heat up the oil (traditionally palm or vegetable, but I use light olive) together with the kecap before adding the shallots, scallions, and garlic to the hot oil/soy mixture. Once that is done, the rice and any combo of meat can easily be folded in (not too heavily mixed, please)! A dash of salt finishes it off to perfection.

Huh, So I normally scramble the eggs, reserve those before cooking onions, peepers, mushrooms and what ever other veggies I’m using in oil with garlic and ginger. Once those are on the way I had a little soy sauce and the meat (typically chopped up left overs)then the egg and then the I put the cold rice on top of it all, add some more soy and heat covered for ~3min before stiring everything together and adding chopped scallions. I’ll have to try mixing the soy sauce earlier.

There are several varieties, Nasi Uduk being a likely candidate. There is another kind whse name escapes me now, that is bright yellow, served in large quantities, and is quite complicated to make. My wife will have this one catered in for holidays, its one of the few indonesian dishes she can’t make.
The banana (not palm) leaf that the rice is steamed in is not totally essential, but all Indonesians can tell when its missing. I haven’t even dared to try and make it yet, so don’t feel bad. I applaud you going out on a limb!

re: #180 BishopX
Huh, So I normally scramble the eggs, reserve those before cooking onions, peepers, mushrooms and what ever other veggies I’m using in oil with garlic and ginger. Once those are on the way I had a little soy sauce and the meat (typically chopped up left overs)then the egg and then the I put the cold rice on top of it all, add some more soy and heat covered for ~3min before stiring everything together and adding chopped scallions. I’ll have to try mixing the soy sauce earlier.
You could try that, or just wave the salt container over the pan just before serving. It may seem like sodium overload, but can turn the fried rice from decent to great!
Oh, and I don’t mean the salt cellar either, i mean the cardboard carton of red cross or mortons! Go on, become one with the salt….

Yeah, salt makes the rice. In my kitchen right now is:
- A Trader Joe’s Salt grinder thing on the table.
- A Morton’s cylinder of (iodized) salt for baking and heavy duty cooking
-A box of Kosher salt for light cooking where the texture and quality of the salt can be apparent.

Hello Reine,
D_L & I have some good news to share. Went to a meeting with the owner of start up company, who needs experienced help. Only 4 to 8 days a month but darn good pay. D_L landed the key job, & big surprise, they wanted my help on the weekend days. Whew, right after she became a “99er” no more unemployment benefits available.
Part time is perfect for her considering her need to help her elder folks at home a day a week.

Thanks. I guess I’m going to have to either wait till I can make a trip to NYC or ask my boss to bring some next time she’s passing through my area.
I used to work in an Asian neighborhood in Elmhurst, Queens, which is is where I originally had the coconut rice (they served Chinese, Malaysian. and Indonesian food).
There was this one HUGE Asian market—mostly Chinese & Korean stuff, but a little of everything else too—where you could find almost anything. I used to spend hours & hours in there just gawking at all the strange & exotic looking foods. Lots of the packaged stuff didn’t even have English ingredients listed, so trying something new was always an adventure. Heh.
I miss NYC. *sigh*

This is good. It’s rather amazing how such a mundane ingredient growing up has turned into a more complex (and tasty) condiment. The right or wrong kind/quantity of salt can make all the difference!
Another thought is shallots. My wife swears by the smaller varieties, as does Anthony Bourdain in general. In fact, he even states that Shallots are one of the 10 reasons why “restaurant food” tastes different (usually better) than “our cooking”. They are yet another food item that I didn’t grow up with but now can’t live without….

Be sure to put your unused shallots out in the garden. It doesn’t matter if you plant them in January or July, they’ll do just fine. Within a year you’ll have you own never ending supply. You can do that with garlic too.

It doesn’t matter, the imaginary war is over, we won
There is an irony to the fact that twajie uses multiple sock puppets on a blog that always accuses Charles of having socks.
Meanwhile these intellectual midgets are obsessing over a deleted eight year old comment.

It’s an old rovian tactic that the odious odomites have perfected.

If you’re a real shallot fan I highly recommend the French Grey Shallots. You can’t buy them in stores but you can order them online from garden supply places. They are very delicious. Just plant some in the yard and never harvest all of them, leave some for next year.

Oh and about roast beef too.
Okay here’s the scenario. You’re having a wedding. You’d really like roast beef at the wedding. Would you rather have a roast that’s been pre-cooked from a grocery store deli and sliced or a custom cut, organic, grass fed, prime roast for 3.50 a pound and slow roasted to perfection?

there is no secret to roulette, other than the colors that seem to come up before you bet….if there are several red numbers, then bet black…spread your bets around and never bet some lucky number….in fact play cards instead, you cannot go wrong playing blackjack and it’s more fun…just my opinion

The best game to play in a casino is craps. You still will lose overall, due to the house edge and the problem of the Gambler’s Ruin.
But with craps, you have the lowest house edge, so you can play for the longest time, and get the most free drinks, and the most thrills of the roll of the dice.
I prefer poker.

I either don’t have the gene for gambling or learned very early on that I’m extremely unlucky or just plain bad at games of chance. I really hate casinos except for their shows. I can feed a slot machine $20 in quarters in 5 minutes and not get a thing. I could have sat in the bar 4x as long for the same amount of money. Gambling for me has hardly ever shown a return let alone a profit.

When I went to Vegas, craps was my favorite. I was there for fun and it was the most entertaining. Slots were so boring. I thing I played for a few minutes and thought what the heck is up with this? How do people sit here for hours. :) Black jack was okay but it was still rather sedate. Didn’t play roulette but it looked about the same.
Craps was all whooping and hollering and at least you got to DO something more then just place a bet. I ended up playing for the whole night on my last night there. It was a blast. I started with 40 got it to around 900 which was awesome, I debated about stopping but I figured that the entertainment outweighed the actual need to take money away. When I started I expected to lose anyways so it really wasn’t a loss. I watched the guy beside me bet 30,000 dollars three times and lose it all! It was flabergasting to watch that. Didn’t seem to phase him though.
Still at the end of it all I ended up with ninety dollars in my pocket which was cool.

No, it isn’t. Cutler is ready for this, and he’s going to turn in a first rate performance. Tomorrows game is not going to see any major failures. The Bears and Packers both know each other as well as any two NFL teams can. This is going to be a close game between two high-quality teams. But I think the Bears powerful defense will give them the edge. The Bears have been able to contain Aaron Rodgers twice during the regular season (the Packer won on Jan. 2nd but only scored 10 points) and this time a greater offensive effort will carry the Bears to victory. But it will not be an easy win.

Not where I used to gamble, I never ever lost as much as a single dollar in a crap game. You may say the odds were always loaded in my favor. It was the only way they could get me to leave the room before I told the marks they was being played.
I could pick up twenty to fifty dollars a bet and this was good money late seventies, especially when there were places where my money was no good. No tab was run if you tip the barmaid ten dollars.
And I was an absolute nobody who made a few interesting friends that I would love to write about, but am waiting for them to pass away.
I haven’t seen them in decades but I still owe them privacy.

True and 1941 was a similar example as both teams went in with tied records (that was the only thing that triggered a playoff then). I’ll probably try to find a feed on the net - we have no TV & no money to sit at a bar and watch the game, alas.

no, the house does not always win…and sometimes they lose big
But they usually win, and when someone does beat them, the house usually wins it back soon enough. Play long enough, and the odds stand a better and better chance of evening up and beating you.
I’m a craps player, trying to play a lot less. I know the odds and play what the dealers say is a “tough out” style. None of the “proposition bets” in the middle of the layout unless it’s as a tip for the dealers. Pass line with lots of “odds” (the odds bet in craps being the ONLY bet in the casino that doesn’t favor the house). And still I’ve lost more than I’ve won. I know this and still have the urge to play. Having a casino 35 minutes away doesn’t help. But, so far this year I haven’t gone even once.
Roulette? Boring. There’s no strategy that works. Slots? For the mindless and/or easily entertained. Blackjack? Too much of my fate is tied to how idiots play their hands. Any “new” game? C’mon, the casino wouldn’t offer it unless it was well in the house’s favor.
The best strategy? Play games you understand, with small amounts of money you can afford to lose. And if you’re not having fun, don’t play.
