American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer: Liberals ‘Haven’t Taken to Killing People’ Yet

If people like Bryan Fischer ever gain power, the streets will run with blood
Wingnuts • Views: 27,797

Bryan Fischer, the religious right fanatic who’s connected to many top GOP politicians (Michele Bachmann, Mike Huckabee, Tim Pawlenty, Haley Barbour, and Newt Gingrich have all appeared on his webcast), came out with a masterpiece of incoherent projection yesterday.

Fischer says “liberals” hate freedom of speech, America, and God, and the only difference between them and “Muslims” is that liberals “haven’t taken to killing people.”

However, people who think like Bryan Fischer have taken to killing people; for just one example out of many, see the previous thread about the murderer of Dr. George Tiller. Scott Roeder’s belief system was identical to Bryan Fischer’s; not just similar, but identical in every respect.

And if people with Fischer’s ideology were to ever take power in America, they would institute a reign of terror the likes of which humanity hasn’t seen since the Spanish Inquisition. Fischer’s rant is pure hateful projection.

Fischer's argument here is puzzling. Wasn't he supposed to say that liberals differ from Muslims only in that they slaughter millions of people in the womb instead of waiting until they are born? He must have misplaced the last page of his script.

Fischer is a foolish thinker and a sloppy writer who has no idea of what liberals think, or how our political system (OMG, the Courts!) is set up to provide balance.

Orwell: "Now, it is clear that the decline of a language must ultimately have political and economic causes: it is not due simply to the bad influence of this or that individual writer. But an effect can become a cause, reinforcing the original cause and producing the same effect in an intensified form, and so on indefinitely. A man may take to drink because he feels himself to be a failure, and then fail all the more completely because he drinks. It is rather the same thing that is happening to the English language. It becomes ugly and inaccurate because our thoughts are foolish, but the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts."

I'm sick and tired of conservatives telling me about liberals. I think I'd rather listen to liberals about liberalism.

Conservatives have taught me a great deal about conservatism. Thank you for the education professors Palin, Bachmann, and Fischer.

Terrorism directed at 'liberal' and 'government' targets since July 2008: An interactive map UPDATED

Since all those isolated incidents involving terroristic violence directed at "liberals" and the "government" keep adding up into a serious trend, we've decided it's time to start keeping systematic track of the problem -- especially because mainstream media seem intent on refusing to recognize the trend.

Here's the text for the 24 events we've enumerated so far:

Fischer is a buffoon. The man couldn't think his way out of a wet paper bag, and he's mean-spirited to boot.

The typical logic -- make that excuse -- that they use is that since liberals are control of every aspect of American life that we are all products of a liberal upbringing. Most particularly they point at the 60s. Hence, Timothy McVeigh was a product of liberalism ergo a liberal. Right?

But there isn't any rationality in liberalism. It's not rational. It's not logical. It violates everything we know about history, everything we know about logic, everything we know about morality. All of those are violated by a liberal worldview. So what is that they share in common? Well, I think what they share in common, the reason that they bond together, you know the enemy of my enemy is my friend, they both have in common one enemy: the Judge-Christian system of values, the Judge-Christian system of truth claims and values. They both hate the Judge-Christian tradition with equal passion and so that's what bonds them together.

Projection is right. You could take out liberalism and put in fundamentalism and it would make more sense. Especially if you fixed the damn spell check. "Judge-Christian"? I hope that's supposed to be JUDEO-Christian. "Judge-Christian" is kinda scary.

He'd certainly defend it.

35 Stormageddon, Dark Lord of All  Fri, Apr 22, 2011 10:58:58am

Yep, projection is the word. Oftentimes people see the world through their own personal bias and motives. Classic examples of the cheater who accuses their boyfriend/girlfriend of cheating. Sometimes they are cheating, but more times than can be explained by happenstance, the one accusing is the one doing the cheating. Similar pattern. The one who resorts to violence, as opposed to yet another strongly written letter, is the one claiming the other side of wanting to commit murder in the liberal cause.

The other possibility is that Fischer has become so blinded by his hatred that he's willing to lie to himself in order to vilify anyone with opposing viewpoints. make them out to be evil, libel and slander them in order to win.

The first is a subconscious thing, the second is calculating and very nasty. Either way, the guy needs help.

As I mentioned on the page posted yesterday, David Neiwert has done a fantastic job of chronicling what he calls "eliminationist" rhetoric and the mainstreaming of extremist language on the right. He posts about it regularly on Crooks and Liars. His 2009 book on the subject is very good:

Yeah, I actually read a memoir about growing up in the Cultural Revolution and the woman who wrote it talked about a memory she had of a lesbian couple being arrested. I guess that's why I always laugh when nuts like Steve King equate support for gay rights with Communism. Communist regimes by and large are socially conservative. Another interesting thing I've learned in Chinese history though. The single child policy is always equated with the worst aspects of Communism but the PRC actually did this in response to the growing economy in the reformist years of Deng Xiaopeng.

Clergy: 'There will be no blood on the streets of Dearborn'

Dearborn —While court hearings were under way today to decide Terry Jones's bid to protest outside the Islamic Center of America, religious leaders from several denominations were inside rendering their verdict: No thanks.

Charles E. Williams II, senior pastor of Detroit's King Solomon Church described Jones, the Florida pastor who recently burned a Quran, as a man "in search of a riot, a man in search of pain, and a man in search of trouble."

"We want to make sure everybody knows that what he's looking for he's not going to find," Williams said. "There will be no blood on the streets of Dearborn, here in Michigan."

A man in search of a riot is a great turn of phrase which describes Jones to a T.

There seem to be a lot of videos going around about constituents confronting their representatives. The big difference between this and the Tea Party- Healthcare disruptions from last year is that these are real constituents who want to ask their representatives a question and not a rent-a-mob who wants to shut down the meeting.

Because you said "awesome day" and I was expecting some video related to Earth Day in a positive light. That video is commonly associated with anti Earth Day sentiment and is used to ridicule environmentalists as a bunch of loons. On its own it might be funny but it's the context in which it's presented.

Do you really expect more for someone who has been reading this site for years but still bases his skepticism toward global warming on conditions he has personally observed over the past few winters?

The big difference between this and the Tea Party- Healthcare disruptions from last year is that these are real constituents who want to ask their representatives a question and not a rent-a-mob who wants to shut down the meeting.

That is a good point, but it would seem to be understandable that there is a difference between people confronting those they voted for, and those they didn't.

Charles, I'm not really sure about this line. Humanity has seen many reigns of terror MUCH worse than the Spanish Inquisition, most of them having taken place in the last century...including those of Hitler, Stalin, and Pol Pot.

That line is absolutely warranted. These folks are the ones buying the Left Behind books, books in which the violence is overwhelming. He comes to smite all the godless:

Paul Nuechterlein accused the authors of re-sacralizing violence, adding that "we human beings are the ones who put our faith in superior firepower. But in the Left Behind novels the darkness of that human, satanic violence is once again attributed to God."[18] In that same book Jesus merely speaks and the bodies of his enemies are ripped open, forcing the Christians to drive carefully to avoid "hitting splayed and filleted bodies of men and women and horses."

Pretty close. When you regard your political/economic ideology as the "only way" and the solution to all problems, practically deify and worship the party leaders, and elevate certain literature to the status of infallible scripture (Communist Manifesto, Mein Kampf, Mao's Little Red Book), that sounds a lot like religion to me.

But if you prefer, we can point to the Taliban and the Iranian mullahs instead.

But one thing that I have never really thought about and I need to is if a totalitarian system got imposed and I, being atheistic, would be the persecuted outcast. Would someone hide me. Would I go out in a flame of guerrilla-ism. I probably need to think about this because it is not as unreasonable that it could occur than I probably imagine.

re: #144 HappyWarrior

I've met a Messianic Jew before. I don't understand that. I thought one of the distinguishing features of Judaism was that it believes the messiah has yet to arrive. I mean to me that sounds like being a Christian and not believing in Christ.

That's about it :)

I actually disagree with my wonderful pal upthread that most of these people aren't Jews. Maybe that's SF's experience, but the only ones I've met are ex-Jews. It was started by Jews in the 70s. And when evangelists have tried to convert me, they do so by way of trying to pass off J4J to me.

They want the best of both worlds for J4J are Christians, not Jews.

re: #138 SanFranciscoZionist

Thing is, as far as I can tell, almost none of them start off as Jews. They're Protestants who want to be tribal.

...or people with Jewish-sounding last names who see this as a (rather odd) way of connecting with their (presumed) roots. Their German headquarters is located in my former hometown, and they regularly hand out pamphlets to people exiting the u-bahn. Seeking Jews to convert there is roughly along the lines of seeking needles in a haystack.

172 Gus  Fri, Apr 22, 2011 11:49:32am

Excerpt:

Those who hold godless ideologies have long understood that the best way to transform societies and change the way people traditionally think is by indoctrinating children from the earliest stages of education. In the last century, this methodology was effectively employed by those who held the atheistic ideologies of Nazism in Germany and Communism in countries such as the Soviet Union, where the state assumed total control of the educational system—even to the extent of turning children against parents. Of course, both of these worldviews fully embraced Darwinian evolution as a way to justify their actions and nullify the beliefs of their largely Christian populations. While U.S. federal government does not have that kind of authority in our school system (not yet, anyway), is it any wonder that those who lack a biblical worldview in our country, including those with a gay agenda, have seized upon our primary schools as the main vehicle of transforming our nation more to their liking?

Messianic Jews of the Christian variety try to sell the idea that you can accept Christ and still be a Jew. As I mentioned, most of them seem to start out as Protestants, so it's more like, accept Christ and adopt some Jewish customs.

As Alouette points out, there's also a small movement now among some Chasidim that believes that the late Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson was the Messiah. Which is a whole different ball of wax.

He told each member of the family that they could design in one luxury feature. One son wanted a hidden room in the house, so the house has a hidden room, he himself wanted a workshop and got it. His daughter got her own bathroom attached to her room. However his wife wanted three dishwashers, all in a row under the counter in the kitchen so that the dishes get washed in one, then people use them and put them in another and then repeat.....and the household dishes never have to be put up in the cabinets. That was her luxury item.

I once encouraged my husband to ram a Jews for Jesus vehicle in the parking lot at the mall. He didn't do it. Wuss.

Years ago, when my oldest son was a teenager, he went to the homes of elderly Holocaust survivors to read the Megillah for them. At one such visit, the phone rang, and it was a J4J wanting to know if the occupant had received the literature they had so kindly sent him. He screamed at them over the phone, "I t'rew it in da garbage! You people can all go to Hell! You're saying that my mother and father and brothers and sisters are all burning in Hell for not believing in your Yushka! You can kush mir in tuchas (kiss my ass) you momzers (bastards)!"

Honestly, all I want to do is kill people and drink their blood, and flip the bird off to "The Man in the sky", and contravene his laws and seek to destroy His works and everything. But all I can do is be restrained by my ingrained non-religious humanism which tells me that's just not such a great idea.

Speaking of the Earth...I have a moral question to the lizard community. I, like everyone else, simply cannot get my dishes clean in the dishwasher since the took the phosphates out. I either have to hand clean them before putting in, thus wasting water and more detergent, or I sometimes have to wash them twice or three times again wasting water and electricity.

On the other hand, I went to Home Depot (paint area) bought a one pound box of sodium triphosphate (cost $3). If I put literally a half a teaspoon in the dishwaster little flippy door along with the detergent pill the dishes come out perfect. Three day hardened spaghetti pots, no problems.

So...in your opinion am I a scumbag?

Not exactly a scumbag, I ruled that out when you questioned the morality of your decision and showed some introspection. Maybe more like, um, callous. One reason they were banned from various products, among others, is that phosphates are destroying many aquatic habitats. It doesn't take much to achieve that effect because it is a limiting nutrient in many freshwater ecosystems.

Yes....I know why they are banned.....however phosphates being amphipathic have a polar and non polar moiety in the same molecule allowing them to be both hydrophobic and hydrophillic at the same time so they are the true bisexuals of the chemistry world. This allows them to solublize fats and oils and such and stay water soluable. One of the truly fascinating uses of entropy. So they clean like a m'fin riot. In addition, that partial soluability leaves the particles every so slightly as emulsions rather than true solutions so they carry momentum and literally chip particles off of dishes. And yes I do have a chemistry degree....

They are great for a large number of applications. Unfortunately that doesn't really change that even a small amount can wreak havoc on various ecosystems. Phosphate is a critical component in biology. Being depleted in many environments it is the limiting nutrient and the addition of even small amounts can lead to explosive growth in certain organisms. Phosphates contribute to the eutrophication and in some cases anoxia of freshwater lakes and rivers.

Very good point. Along with composting and other techniques people can recover many of the excess nutrients they produce.

as a young Big Steve working for a major oil company in Los Angeles, I invented a process that eliminated over 1 million pounds of TOC (total organic carbon) out of the plants wastewater discharged per year. My name alone was on the patent. This process was adopted initially by the six refineries in my company and then was eventually sold across the industry. My guess is that my inventory has reduced the pollution load across the US by a half billion pounds in the last 20 years. So do I get a pass on using 10 grams of tri-sodium phosphate per week?

Not a scumbag, but you might be better off using detergents that work - Cascade Complete All In 1 pacs (28 cents per load), Ecover tablets (27 cents), Finish Powerball Tabs tablets (22 cents), and Method Smarty Dish tablets (21 cents) - all fared quite well in Consumer Reports' tests of detergents. Those are all reformulated as phosphate free.

Another option is to make sure that you add vinegar or lemon juice to your load - it helps reduce scale and buildup. And if you have hard water - make sure to use a rinse agent like Finish (formerly known as Jet Dry).

Have tried them all......they are all noticibly less effective than when phosphates are in. The industry claims that newer designed dishwashers that will come on the market in the next few years will return to the previous state of clean without the phosphates.....but then one has to buy a new dishwasher.

The only way this very slightly right of center person, now called a liberal by his 'peers', would ever kill anyone would be in a last ditch defense of my country and it's constitutional rights. As has probably become obvious to even the most blissfully oblivious commentator or pundit it is the right that currently advocates violence and social/political otherthrow to achieve their aims, and that some do it almost constantly.

In the same breath that most accuse the 'left' of totalitarian dreams and a predilection towards using force to enforce 'socialistic' ideals they also assure their followers that they (we?) are basically just anti-gun/pacifists and would offer no real Resistance to their New Reich.

Nope. Thank you for developing such a wonderful technology. Using a product in an environmentally harmful way is a separate issue though.

It depends on what you do with it. If you just let it go down the drain you get a frown from me, but with recognition of the relative low scale of pollution compared to agriculture, for example. If you run it out to a collection barrel and then use it to water your yard/garden/whatever then you get a pass, and I even support this course of action (take precautions against mosquitoes!).

In case people think that I tend to pick on only Republican nutcases:

From Jacksonville, Florida - City Council candidate Kimberly Daniels, a Democrat, has gone full-bore loon in recent interviews, spouting anti-Semitic, pro-slavery, and anti-gay rhetoric that would make Brian Fischer proud.

FL Candidate Believes Jews Own Everything, Demons Hide in Candy

Some recent quotes:

I thank God for slavery. Mmm. I thank God for the crack house. If it wasn’t for the crack house, come on somebody, God wouldn’t a never been able to use me how he can use me know. And if it wasn’t for slavery I might be somewhere in Africa worshiping a tree! [...]

You can talk about the Holocaust, but the Jews own everything.

[Praying for Obama that God the prayers of her faithful will] break every soul tie and vow that has been established between him and Harvard, secret societies and the illuminati…

and

expose the work of every witch, sorcerer, spiritualist or person from the dark side operating through his cabinet members or through anyone else closely associated with him.

As if all this wasn't enough craziness, Daniels want to remind us of the dangers of Halloween candy and the holiday itself.

most of the candy sold during this season has been dedicated and prayed over by witches.

I do not buy candy during the Halloween season. Curses are sent through the tricks and treats of the innocent whether they get it by going door to door or by purchasing it from the local grocery store. The demons cannot tell the difference…
The danger of Halloween is not in the scary things we see but in the secret, wicked, cruel activities that go on behind the scenes. These activities include:

* Sex with demons
* Orgies between animals and humans
* Animal and human sacrifices
* Sacrificing babies to shed innocent blood
* Rape and molestation of adults, children and babies
* Revel nights
* Conjuring of demons and casting of spells
* Release of “time-released” curses against the innocent and the ignorant.”

Needless to say, party officials are requesting that she step down from her candidacy.

Hahahaha...

Fox News And Catholic League’s Bill Donohue Invent ‘War On Easter’

Oh for the love of...

Well, time for a reread of this War on Christmas Classic:

Jesus May Be the Reason for the Season, However, Jesus is Not the Reason You Are Shopping at Dick's

Companies are not “censoring Christmas” because “censoring” does not mean “failing to utter the message I wanted you to utter.” Moreover, the obsession with what our merchants say about Christmas — rather than focusing on what we say to our kids at home and at church about Christmas — misses the point of Christmas entirely. It’s like saying that we don’t focus enough on Easter representing the death and resurrection of Christ and His transcendent sacrifice, and we ought to remedy that by making more chocolate Jesuses and fewer chocolate rabbits. It’s like saying that, instead of throwing the moneylenders and dove-sellers out of the temple, Jesus ought to have told them to hand out free copies of His Sermon on the Mount with each purchase. We’re told repeatedly — and correctly, I think — that Christian education begins in the home and continues at church. It’s counterproductive to dilute that message by telling kids, in effect, that they also ought to look for spirituality in the food court. The mall is always going to be about commerce, and commerce is not about Christ, and it’s sheer lunacy to think otherwise.

By the way I hate to violate Godwin but people like Fischer's rhetoric regarding liberals really is not too different from Streicher and Goebells. It wouldn't shock me if Fischer eventually called for violence against liberals.

He could do it under the guise of evangelism, and then quote something out of context from the Old Testament.
