Sen. Jon Kyl Erases His Planned Parenthood Lie from the Congressional Record
Remember Jon Kyl’s ridiculous lie, stated on the floor of the US Senate during the Republican push to destroy Planned Parenthood, that abortions are “well over 90 percent of what Planned Parenthood does?” (The real number is three percent.) And when it was pointed out that Kyl simply lied, remember the even more ridiculous spin from his office that “his remark was not intended to be a factual statement?”
Well, you may think you remember it, but the Congressional Record has been “amended.”
The original statement from Kyl: “If you want an abortion you go to Planned Parenthood and that’s well over 90 percent of what Planned Parenthood does.”
After Kyl amended his remarks, the congressional record now reads: “If you want an abortion you go to Planned Parenthood and that is what Planned Parenthood does.”
I thought the Congressional Record was supposed to be the record of what was said in Congress. But apparently, GOP politicians feel this is a living document that can be amended at will — especially when you’ve blurted out an embarrassing lie and gotten caught at it.
Kyl’s “revision” of his blatant lie was first noticed here: Daily Kos: Kyl revises Congressional Record to omit ‘well over 90% of what Planned Parenthood does’ is abortion.
