Sporting News have the pack going 15-1 this year. That's just a bit of a stretch. 11-5, 12-4 is definitely much more realistic. I think the Steelers may have the best record this year. Look at their schedule, it's cake.

Off-topic, but I have a conundrum that maybe someone here could help me out with.
Take a look at the first two paragraphs o this article:
Texas Gov. Rick Perry's GOP rivals sharply criticized him during Wednesday night's debate over his 2007 executive order mandating that teenage girls be vaccinated to prevent cervical cancer — a move that drew strong opposition at the time from social conservatives and was later overturned by the state Legislature
But they failed to bring up a key part of the story that fueled the Texas controversy and which Democrats are poised to pounce on: Perry's order came after the drug company that manufactured the vaccine hired Mike Toomey, his former chief of staff, as one of the firm's top lobbyists in Austin.
So, should I be more disgusted at the other GOP candidates or politicizing the vaccination of teen girls to prevent life-threatening disease (para #1)?
Or should I be more disgusted at Perry or sucking up to pharmaceutical companies (para #2)?
I'm definitely leaning towards #1, but thought I'd get some advice before reaching a firm conclusion.

Yeah, but it's not just any bill, it's a jobs bill. You know, that thing that the GOP ran upon last year? From all appearances, he's looking to capitalize either way. Either they pass the bill, which lets him take credit if job creation perks up between now and next November. Or they kill it and he goes to work on them for not caring about jobs when that's all the public's focused on right now.
I don't think they'll care about that. They haven't thus far.

It will be an interesting season. It should still be fun. There won't be many games where they won't have to play just about perfectly to win.

Well, shit. Buzz kill.
Terrorist plots being inevitable, I suppose I'd rather they be attempted during a period of super-heightened security when they're far more likely to be foiled.

Actually, the Stimulus package worked, it just wasn't big enough. Yes I'm a libertarian. But everyone seems to forget that 1/3 of the stimulus package was a tax cut, another third was money given directly to the states to cover *their* shortfall. and only 1/3 was used towards any sort of construction and actual stimulus spending.
Meanwhile you had the GDP crash at the end of 2008 into 2009 that put 4 million people out of work, and a real world reduction of the GDP by half a trillion dollars.
If anything the Stimulus stabilized the situation and prevented the economy from continuing it's free fall. If you haven't noticed, as the stimulus spending and QE2 is winding down, the economy is starting to break down again. Mind you, the break down isn't as bad precisely because of the stimulus package, QE2 and TARP restored enough confidence to prevent a depression.
Meanwhile we're still looking at a real specter of a deflationary spiral, we're already mired in a liquidity trap, demand side recessions with low inflation is notoriously difficult to work out of.
We're not even going to talk about how austerity isn't working for Europe. but I will if you want me to. :)

Help, please....Hi, I joined a while ago but have posted a minute amount, incorrectly.-I lurk and rec, I enjoy the balanced banter here, though I am a lefty;) Also I hope a regular poster will tell me, when responding to a comment, if I should delete all these greater than and less than signs and numbers in the post a comment box and am I supposed to type before or after them? Just in case I want to post. If there are directions on how to post please just tell me where to look. Thanks so much, roberta

re: #329 roberta g
The greater and less than signs are part of the syntax (computer talk) that tells the page what goes where and what belongs to who. If delete them, a person you were quoting, becomes part of your comments.

Welcome to Jungle :-)
No, you don't want to delete the less than/greater than signs or the numbers. They are part of the HTML code used in the block quote function.
You can type your response either before or after them as you choose, but most Lizards (like me) type after them.

He finds himself having to defend the whole New Deal and the last half of the XXth Cent. It's become that bad.
My dad, last night:
"Well, the New Deal was a failure."
"How so?"
"Government spending just made [the Depression] longer and deeper."
"What got us out of it, then?"
"The massive stimulus from World War II, duh."
"Who signed the checks? The private sector?"
". . ."
"I'm waiting."
"That's different."
