Well, let's take this one issue - "We support a woman’s right to have an abortion". It's just not true. There is a variety of libertarian perspectives on this - cf. [Link: en.wikipedia.org...]

re: #15 elecman6000
Let me set the record straight. Libertarians, TRUE libertarians, are NOTHING like the right-wing. We support the right of gays to marry and adopt children. We support a woman’s right to have an abortion. We are for the separation of church and state. We want to end the pointless drug war. We want to get our troops out of harm’s way in countries we have no place being (Iraq, Libya, ect). We want fiscal responsibility to allow for a true free market, NOT crony capitalism. We want to end the Patriot Act and other policies that violate the rights of the American people. What is so wrong with that?
The short answer is that libertarian fiscal policy is based almost entirely on fantasy, and has no bearing in the real world, which is incidentally why the libertarian movement as a whole tends to have little political truck. And that, furthermore, is why libertarianism and the Conservative cult are such natural partners - because both deal in catchy, but ultimately unrealistic, talking points, and the Conservative cult actually has political weight, lending libertarianism some sort of credence.
The longer answer involves the fact that so much of the Conservative cult follows libertarian/Randian policy that the two are largely indistinguishable. Sure, you may not have a faith based in hate like most of the culties. But too many of those who say the same things do.

Yeah... I said something really nasty about Pamela Geller (won't get into exact details, but let's just say it was pretty cruel). I was having a bad day and was venting on an idiot. It was wrong, and I admit that.
If you discuss that with Charles directly, you may be able to come to some sort of agreement.

re: #24 elecman6000
But Shirley you understand that that's exactly what they want? They think that fetuses are full-blown persons and thus think they should be protected as such by law. And it's logical, if one thinks like that. And it's not contrary to libertatianism, once one accepts such a premise. Which goes on to show that saying things like "libertarians support women's reproductive rights" is nonsensical. Some do. Some oppose.

re: #15 elecman6000
The Libertarian party doesn't share your views on any of those issues. The Libertarian party basically takes a Confederate view, and has many, many candidates for office who are avowed theocrats.
If you mean small l-libertarian, the word is so broad as to be meaningless. But in the US, it almost always stands for a simple minarchist. And I hope you don't really mean you want a true free market. A truly free market would be an insane thing. You still want some regulation of the financial markets etc., don't you? Some safety regulation?
53 | HappyWarrior Sun, Oct 9, 2011 4:47:54pm |
If you're annoyed with Ron Paul being used as an example for libertarianism I'd take it up with the many Libertarians who love to act like he's the solution to our problems. I know some libertarians and I even met Reason Magazine's editor who apparently got in some hot water with the Paul fans when his magazine was apparently critical of the Ron Paul newsletter that had the racist crap published in Paul's name. Myself? I am not anti-libertarian. Yes, I disagree with them mostly on economics and some foreign policy but generally agree with what they theoretically stand for on social issues. The problems I've had with most libertarians seem to be with attitude and a total dismissing of people who don't think libertarianism is just great.

If only Obama was more like Chavez....
Anti-Capitalist Meet-up: Chavez Versus Obama: Whose Policies Are Best For the 99%ers?
Chavez dealt with Venezuela’s fraudster bankers by immediately investigating their banks, closing some, nationalizing others and many of the banksters are now sitting in jail. The bank depositors whose savings were looted were made whole by the Venezuelan government virtually immediately.
...
The American people desperately need the economic and social policies of a socialist like Chavez, but it doesn’t look as if they are likely to get them.... unless the Occupy Wall Street Wall continues to grow as it has in the last three weeks and sustains its momentum such that that the U.S. can truly bloom with the dramatic changes that wrought an Egyptian Spring in the coming autumn and winter.

I wouldn't mind that. With Texas-Milwaukee though you're guaranteed a team that hasn't won ever. Detroit has some fun players though: Verlander, Cabrera, and Avila looks to be a promising young catcher.

Not a great place to emulate.
Venezuela and its capital, Caracas, are reported to both have among the highest per capita murder rates in the world. Most murders and other violent crimes go unsolved. Armed criminal gangs often operate with impunity throughout the urban areas.
...
"Express kidnappings," in which victims are seized in an attempt to get quick cash in exchange for their release, are a problem. One common practice is for kidnappers to follow potential victims into building garages and kidnap them at gunpoint.

Anyone interested in some grade-A derp? This is the first result from my Ringo search:
The Unholy Legacy of the Beatles
Recently when I turned on the news I heard that Beatle George Harrison had died on November 30 at age 58 of cancer. The report went on to say that Harrison was surrounded by old friends from the Hare Krishna movement. In fact, Guada Chandra Das of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness stated that Harrison died to the sound of Hindu "chanting and praying." His body was then cremated, his widow and 23-year-old son carried the ashes to India and sprinkled them in the Ganges river in Varnasi and Allahabad, India. They were accompanied by two Hare Krishna devotees who performed Hindu rites as the ashes were scattered on Tuesday, December 4th. Harrison left millions of dollars to the Hindu, Hare Krishna Foundation and was responsible for popularizing the false religion of Hinduism to multitudes of people in the West.
For the next 48 hours radio and television news special reports and newspapers lauded the wonderful contributions George and the Beatles had made to the music world and society. While I certainly agree that the Beatles have left a legacy, I disagree concerning the nature of that legacy. It is an unholy and detrimental legacy, as I will demonstrate shortly.
Trust me, it gets even better.

More from Pastor David L. Brown: Halloween Unholy!
There is no doubt about it! Halloween is a RELIGIOUS DAY but it definitely is NOT A CHRISTIAN DAY!!! Halloween is an occult unholy day. That should be obvious. Yet, many Christians join right in with the festivities. Owen Rachleff wrote in his book "Occult Conceit" -- "Halloween can be, and to many is, a deadly serious affair." And he's right! Its activities focus on fear, death, demons, evil and the occult. A former high priest in the Celtic tradition of Wicca (witchcraft) said, "Halloween is purely and absolutely evil, and there is nothing we ever have or will do that would make it acceptable to the Lord Jesus." He's right. Therefore, I have written a book called "The Dark Side of Halloween & The Bewitching of America" that exposes Halloween for what it is (the cost is $10 postpaid). We also have a pamphlet that has been widely circulated titled "The Dark Side of Halloween" that traces the "History, Heroes and Harm of Halloween" in a brief manner (15 cents each plus postage). I have produced a 58-minute video and a 86-minute video on the same topic ($25 plus postage).
Wonder if I'll meet some new neighbors if I pass this message around with the treats this Halloween.

Oh brother. That Beatles article is even stupider than I thought:
There are several verses that should frame our thinking before we consider this second point Titus 2:4-5 "That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed." Ephesians 5:23-24 "For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing."
The second major contributing factor that have brought about the degeneration of the foundational biblical norms and values of our society within my lifetime is the womans liberation movement. The modern American movement was founded when in 1953 by a book called The Second Sex by French feminist writer Simone De Beauvoir, was published in the United States. The more radical wing of the feminist movement adopted the phrase "women's liberation" which was first used in this book. The philosophies and practices of the womans liberation movement are undermining and destroying our homes and families.

I'm a Christian and have never understood people's attachment to the KJV.
Had a Church of Christ preacher tell me once that I shouldn't attend a Methodist Church because Christ is not in the name of the church.
I almost brought up the "Rectification of the Vuldrani", but decided against it.

KJV-onlyism is such a weird theory. They can't coherently answer - well, where was the inspired and preserved text until 1611? And why English? Maybe the Bible in Mandarin is the really inspired one?

It's an absolutely fabulous translation. I do wish that someone had convinced them that the vav ha-hippuch does not have to be translated as 'and', thus leading to the endless "And the Lord did thusandsuch" sentences, but the KJV is beautiful and well-translated.
It's just a translation. Other ones in English are more accurate, if not as lovely.
