Breitbart Blogger Dan Riehl Thinks John Sununu Is Still Governor of New Hampshire

Derp of the day
Wingnuts • Views: 24,352

DERPDemonstrating the incredibly high journalistic standards of breitbart.com, today Dan Riehl manages to screw up a simple fact in the very first sentence of his latest inept attack on President Obama: NH Gov: Three Years In, Obama Still Unqualified for Presidency.

New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu (R) and other local Romney supporters greeted V.P. Joe Biden when he arrived in N.H. …

The governor of New Hampshire is John Lynch, a Democrat.

John Sununu has not been governor of New Hampshire since 1989.

The article to which Riehl links refers to Sununu, correctly, as “former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu (R).” Did Riehl even read it?

(h/t: P.J. Nicolatore.)

UPDATE at 4/13/12 9:31:06 am

Amazingly, this may not be the stupidest thing Dan Riehl wrote today; from Twitter:

I think this has become common in the right-wing so they can call Pailn 'Governor Palin'.

"President" and "Governor" seem to be pretty standard, but not "NH governor", such specificity denotes a factual statement.

No. Even if you did, you wouldn't refer to them as "New Hampshire Governor". He's not the New Hampshire Governor.

Like you might call GWB "Mr. President", but you would not write in a news item "President of the United States GWB" in present tense.

Pretty much. Honestly, this isn't that big of a deal. It's bad/sloppy form, but whatever. I'm more worried about the other things he says and writes, such as the example provided by the first derivative of wrench^2 in #6.

John H. Sununu. Let's put him up on the screen:

• Sununu angered some when he was the only governor of a U.S. state not to call for repeal of the extremely controversial UN General Assembly Resolution 3379 ("Zionism is Racism"). He later reversed his position on this issue and supported the Republicans' pro-Israel 1988 platform.

• As White House Chief of Staff, Sununu reportedly took personal trips, for skiing and other purposes, and classified them as official, for purposes such as conservation or promoting the Thousand Points of Light. The Washington Post wrote that Sununu's jets "took him to fat-cat Republican fund-raisers, ski lodges, golf resorts and even his dentist in Boston." Sununu had paid the government only $892 for his more than $615,000 worth of military jet travel. Sununu said that his use of the jets was necessary because he had to be near a telephone at all times for reasons of national security. Sununu became the subject of much late-night television humor over the incident. Sununu worsened the situation shortly afterwards when, after leaking rumors of financial difficulties in his family, he traveled to a rare stamp auction at Christie's auction house in New York City from Washington in a government limousine, spending $5,000 on rare stamps. Sununu then sent the car and driver back to Washington unoccupied while he returned on a corporate jet. In the course of one week, 45 newspapers ran editorials on Sununu, nearly all of them critical of his actions.

• Sununu repaid over $47,000 to the government for the flights on the orders of White House counsel C. Boyden Gray, with the help of the Republican Party. However, the reimbursements were at commercial rates, which are about one-tenth the cost of the actual flights; one ski trip to Vail, Colorado alone had cost taxpayers $86,330.

14 Obdicut  Fri, Apr 13, 2012 9:35:12am

Sununu is most famous for profligate spending on the taxpayer dime, taking lots of personal trips and attempting to claim they were business related. He also claimed to be in severe financial difficulty, then immediately spent $5,000 at a rare stamp auction at Christie's.

Not exactly the best ally for Romney to prove he's in touch with the common man.

Sununu Used U.S. Guard Service On New York Trips, Records Show

For more than 18 months, John H. Sununu has used workers who guard Federal office buildings in New York to drive and escort him on business, political and personal errands in the New York and New Jersey area, according to Government officials and documents.

The White House said the assistance to Mr. Sununu, the White House chief of staff, was routine and had been authorized, and had been made available to other senior officials.

But managers of the guard service in five other major cities said today that their duties were primarily limited to guarding buildings and investigating crimes on Federal property, and that they had never escorted high-level officials on local visits.

Vermont Governor Chased by Bears

Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin (D) says he was chased and nearly caught by four bears that were raiding his birdfeeders, Vermont Public Radio reports.

Shumlin said that "You almost lost the governor. Security was not there. I was within three feet of getting 'arrrh.'"

Iowa Republican State Senator Proposes Drug Testing Child Support Recipients

A favorite Republican pastime recently has been to demonize the unemployed by proposing that they submit to drug tests before collecting their unemployment insurance. Both at the federal and state level, Republicans have pushed for such a policy, even though, as it turns out, such requirements save barely any money and only prove that those on unemployment insurance are less likely than the public at large to be using drugs.
One Iowa Republican this week decided that such measures are not enough. During debate over Iowa’s budget, state Sen. Mark Chelgren (R) proposed that people who receive child support payments also be forced to submit to drug tests on the whims of the person making the payments.

First, that's bupkis, both absolutely, and in terms of what they get in aid annually. Secondly, what Fatah has to lose is their personal share of that, also control to a bunch of religious fanatics who don't like them. ('Don't like' here being a euphemism that covers a long history of politically motivated murders.) What Hamas has to lose is Fortress Hamas. Everyone's got something to lose, and the best way to keep what you've got, at the present time, is not to do anything radical like let the other guys sit down at the table.
