Tonight on Twitter, American Family Association spokesman Bryan Fischer’s deranged homophobia crossed the line into soliciting kidnapping:

The thing is, this happens. It isn't uncommon for people, especially if they've grown up in repressed households that demonize gay people, to not understand their own sexuality until after marriage and kids.

There are many, many cases of children being kidnapped by one parent to deny them to the other, for a variety of reasons. One of those reasons is that the person is a lesbian or gay.

We need an underground railroad to stop children from being infected by the 12th century.

I would be all for considering teaching the sorts of garbage like this:

14 Insane 'Facts' According to the Louisiana Charter School System

to be an obvious form of child abuse.

4 Kragar  Tue, Aug 7, 2012 6:49:24pm

Listening to Bryan Fischer's advice about kids should be considered child abuse.

I agree, and your earlier page makes a good case for it.

So you think that communism might not actually be venom hurled by Satan?

That man has serious reality issues.

Asshole, if you'd tried to 'deliver' my husband and his sister from their mothers, there would have been some serious goddamned consequences.

To what end, Mr. Fisher? The historical Underground Railroad took slaves who voluntarily sought its help to free states and even Canada. Where would this proposed Underground Railroad take these children, out of the country to nations that are deemed as "anti-gay"?

12 jaunte  Tue, Aug 7, 2012 6:52:52pm

Is solicitation of felony kidnapping against Twitter's terms of service?

Nope... 'fraid not. I think that humans came up with that all on their own.

I'm also pretty sure that slave owners weren't so nice and I am damn sure that anyone who says that the "Trail of Tears brought the Cherokee to Jesus" - as if even if it were true (of course not) that would make it OK - needs to be liberally beaten about the head and shoulders.

Stochastic solicitation:

An interesting twist on solicitation occurs when a third party that the solicitor did not intend to receive the incitement overhears the request to the original solicitee and unbeknownst to the solicitor, commits the target offense. In a minority of jurisdictions in the United States, this situation would still be considered solicitation even though the defendant never intended the person that committed the crime to have done so.

I will do them the courtesy of thinking that what they imagine is a little white-gowned angel--I suspect they think all these kids are white, too, mind you, not just their gowns--thankfully blessing Jesus every night for having saved them from their devil parents.

As opposed to, say, screaming "YOU'RE NOT EITHER OF MY REAL DADDIES," and biting the adoptive 'parents' at every opportunity.

And that really is the fantasy they live under, that they're "saving" these kids from a horrible environment and giving them a "family" that will love and care for them as only a "traditional" one can. That the kids will initially hate them and lash out, but with "proper care," will eventually come to accept how wrong and evil their life was before they were "saved" and will thank God that he saw fit to send such people to him.

This abuse of Christianity is a literal blasphemy to me. It's a twisted horrible distortion. Should anyone take this suggestion to heart there will be hell to pay. Just imagine some fool getting caught trying to kidnap a child by a parent. The police may well be too late for the kidnapper to survive. Or worse too late to stop the kidnapping.

They might actually be ready for that. The AFA strike me as the kind of group that are down corporal punishment of the "beat the kid with 1" plumbing pipe" variety. [I don't recall the names, but there two or three sources on "Christian parenting" out there that set the standards, including what to beat your kid with.]

After all, their objective is pious, obedient children...not happy or well-adjusted ones.

The problem with the Zardoz theory is that Zardoz isn't completely horrified by all things relating to vaginas.

Then again, vaginas aren't really specifically dealt with in the movie, so maybe they're like the Voldemort of the Brutals--The Anatomy Parts That Shall Not Be Named.

That's what kills me. They're advocating destroying families and kidnapping children just because the parents are gay or lesbian. Never mind that the kids themselves might be happy and well-adjusted and in a loving household -- teh ghey is so horrible that the child's wishes no longer matter so Fischer and his freaks feel entitled to hurt kids and wreck lives.

Fuck these people, man. They're not Christians. They're just plain evil.

I'm going through some of the work of William Dever (in collecting sources for some mythical Page about myths...) and his 2005 book is a strong statement about the centrality of the feminine in ancient Canaanite/Israelite religion, complete of course with little figurines of Asherah with genitalia.

Anyway, the rise of the strongly masculine central religious authority and their struggle against the more feminine popular religion is an old, old battle.

The Japanese creation myth is also centered on this male-female contrast (in that case, the female demi-god had the audacity to speak before her male companion spoke, and thus caused some curses.)

Bryan Fischer and his ilk are continuing on a multi-millennial tradition of gender warfare in culture.

I suspect that Fischer (though of course I cannot know what exactly he is thinking) is basing his assumption of what same-sex households are like from the author's own experience, rather than the brief analysis of the aforementioned studies.

Honoring America's Veterans Act Signed By Obama, Restricting Westboro Military Funeral Protests

President Barack Obama signed the Honoring America’s Veterans and Caring for Camp Lejeune Families Act of 2012 into law on Monday, providing a wide-ranging package of benefits to military personnel and enacting new restrictions on protests of service member funerals.

"We have a moral sacred duty to our men and women in uniform," Obama said before signing the bill, according to a pool report. "The graves of our veterans are hallowed grounds."

The new law will have strong implications for the Westboro Baptist Church, a Kansas-based organization which the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League have labeled a hate group. Westboro Baptist Church has drawn media attention for its brand of protest, which frequently links the deaths of soldiers to America's growing acceptance of gays.

Under the new legislation, protests must be held at least 300 feet from military funerals and are prohibited two hours before or after a service. The law counters a 2011 Supreme Court ruling, which found that displays such as Westboro's were protected under the First Amendment.

That depends on a lot of other circumstances. The Vatican has a very long history of looking the other way at homosexuality, bi-sexuality and all sorts of other sexuality if there are priests or higher orders involved.

And I am not going for the obvious cheap shot there. I am also not comparing consenting adults to the cheap shot either.

One way the old days were better in America... If the Phelps ass holes tried that even 50 years ago, they would have been beaten down and that would have been that.

And no, don't read that as advocating violence per se, see it instead that there was a time in America, when everyone got that it was a funeral, and you don't F with that.

What's ironic about him leading an organization that's devoted to the nuclear family is the the nuclear family is a serious aberration of what has passed down from many societies. As Andrew Weil noted in one of his books when it came to Hispanic families vs. what we have accepted as a nuclear family, he recounted an encounter with a Hispanic family in a hospital setting vs. a nuclear family. What it eventually boiled down to was a simple statement from the matriarch of the hispanic family: "We have a family. You (non-hispanic) have a restrictive family."

We don't have to refer to it as "hate speech." The definition of "fighting words" used by the Supreme Court is "those that by their very utterance inflict injury or tend to incite an immediate breach of the peace." A standard definition is more like "words that are designed to incite hatred and/or violence from the target."

I'm pretty sure screaming "Your son deserved to die" at his frickin funeral falls under those definitions. And we could also go into the realm of "profane" and "obscene" speech, which are also not protected.

Yes, this is America:

Letters: It’s evolution that’s based on faith

Many local papers carried an AP story decrying the fact that some charter schools would teach creationism and challenge evolution. God forbid! I mean Big Bang forbid!

The critics always point to evolution as a “scientific fact” and argue that creationism is a religious theory. I beg to differ.

You don’t have to be an MIT graduate to understand that the belief that nothing blew up and created a single-cell amoeba that over billions of years became a monkey then a man is not a scientific fact. It is not provable nor does it even follow the basic laws of science.

The laws of physics teach us that the Earth and every thing in it are in a state of entropy (decline), not evolving upward. Secondly, the fossil record which would have millions of transitional fossils (half bird, half fish) as Darwin purported is completely bankrupt of any, much less a “missing link.”

The government systematically has destroyed the family structure, legislated discipline, God and morality out of schools and then heaped tons of meaningless bureaucracy on overburdened teachers. With the family in shambles, schools in disarray and teachers burned out, public education will continue to erode.

Much will be debated and discussed by politicians and teachers unions, but I firmly believe no real solutions will come forth because the real problems will not even be addressed. Unless morality and the God-ordained family is revived, public education will only be one of the problems destroying our state and nation.

It’s time to heed Lincoln’s advice

President Abraham Lincoln warned that our great nation could never be destroyed by our enemies. He reasoned that the only thing that could bring down America was America herself.

The recent economic earthquake is only more proof that President Lincoln was correct. We could look at the plight of education, or the illegal immigration avalanche, but the pending economic crash has taken center stage as the greatest threat to our nation.

Our government’s irrational and irresponsible financial policies (Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac) coupled with our society’s insatiable need to spend money we don’t have, have created a national debt of ominous proportions. Only two decades ago, we were the greatest lending nation in the world. Today we are the world’s greatest debtor!

Some have suggested that the greatest drop in stock market history had God’s signature on it: 777 points. I do know we would do well to heed the conclusion of President Lincoln when he lamented that we have become “intoxicated with unbroken success, too self sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, and too proud to pray to the God that made us.” I, for one, am heeding his wisdom.

Scott Smith Arrested With Weapons Just Before 'The Dark Knight Rises' Screening: Cops

Scott Smith, 37, was arrested Saturday night after allegedly bringing guns, ammo and knives into a screening of "The Dark Knight Rises," Ohio police say.

Smith reportedly arrived in the Regal Westlake theater about an hour early for a 10 p.m. movie, and sat down in the back row, according to Fox-5.

A movie theater manager was suspicious of Smith's bag when he entered the theater, CBS-10 reports.

The Regal employee and an off-duty police officer serving as a security guard then searched the bag, where they found a loaded 9mm handgun, with two additional ammunition magazines and three knives, according to Fox-8.

The officer, identified by Gawker as Jeremiah Bullins, then frisked Smith and found a fourth knife.

Police later searched Smith man's home where other weapons were found, including seven rifles, five or six handguns, lots of ammo, gas masks and bulletproof vests, ABC-5 reported.

Smith, who served in the military for a brief period, did not have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, according to ABC-5 and TMZ.

I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation for why this guy needed a small arsenal of guns he couldn't legally carry around in public.///

It's so stupid. The only reasons Obama isn't absolutely annihilating Romney in the polls are:

a) he's still black, and
b) the GOP is still doing dick-all to help the economy

And even with those factors, he's healthily up across the board.

226 Targetpractice  Wed, Aug 8, 2012 7:09:30am

Thankfully, TPM's nice enough to boil it down:

ABC/WaPo: Romney Favorability Levels Off At Lowest Mark For A Presumptive Nominee

After his personal popularity saw a resurgence almost immediately after he wrapped up the Republican presidential nomination, Mitt Romney’s favorability rating has plateaued at a historically low level, according to a new poll released Wednesday.

According to the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, 40 percent of Americans hold a favorable view of Romney — virtually identical to the 41 percent high-water mark that his favorability rating reached in the ABC/WaPo survey from late May. Compounding matters for the presumptive Republican nominee: the percentage of the public who view him unfavorably has jumped from 45 percent to 49 percent. Romney’s standing is even lower among independents, with only 37 percent of the bellwether voting bloc viewing him favorably compared with 50 percent who view him unfavorably.

Romney’s 40 percent favorability mark represents the lowest midsummer personal popularity rating for a presumptive presidential nominee dating back to 1948. Perhaps Romney’s only solace is that former President George H.W. Bush nursed a comparable 41 percent favorability rating at a similar point in 1988. Bush, of course, went on to comfortably win the presidential election that year — although he wasn’t facing an incumbent.

That's poll numbers going back to 1948, which means the man enjoys a lower favorability than such historical duds as Mondale, McGovern, Dukakis, Dole, and Kerry.

That's a good point, because too many voters (particularly low-info ones) pay attention only to the presidency and completely overlook the importance of down-ticket races. Obama winning isn't much of a prize if the Senate ends up in TP/GOP clutches:

Five Things Everyone Should Know About GOP Senate Candidate Todd Akin

1. Akin believes Medicare is unconstitutional.
...
2. Akin said that “the heart of liberalism really is a hatred for God.”
...
3. Akin is one of the most anti-gay GOP members of the House. According to a ThinkProgress analysis, Akin is one of the seven leading sponsors of anti-gay legislation in Congress, which perhaps follows from his belief that “anybody who knows something about the history of the human race knows that there is no civilization which has condoned homosexual marriage widely and openly that has long survived.” Akin has focused on gay members of the military, pushing legislation that would protect soldiers who chose to harass and bully their LGBT colleagues.

4. Akin called recent legislation streamlining the student loan process a “state three cancer of socialism.”
...
5. Akin wants the United States to withdraw from the UN.

That's Missouri - will it go the way of Texas?

I think there is another issue in play as well. Parents who dearly want to be parents are going to be better at it, more dedicated and loving. Het couples are simply expected to become parents and there is considerable pressure on them to make babies regardless of their true desire to do so. Choosing not to is quite unacceptable in our culture. Gay couples have to go to a lot of trouble and often fight a lot of battles to become parents. They only do that out of a deep, sincere desire to parent.

Egypt airstrikes in Sinai kill 20 'terrorists' in reprisal for attacks on military posts

The airstrikes along the Israeli-Egyptian border came after several Egyptian military checkpoints in the region were attacked overnight and three days after unknown gunmen attacked Egyptian border guards. The incidents have left Egypt lurching to contain the Sinai's growing lawlessness, which has been fostered by the upheaval of post-revolution Egypt and poses an important challenge for the country's new leadership.

An unnamed Egyptian senior military official told Agence France-Presse that “20 terrorists were killed” in the village of Tumah, near the Gaza border, by Apache helicopter strikes. The military source said the operation was ongoing and other airstrikes have been reported in neighboring villages.

Given his way of thinking that makes sense actually. Come to think of it, he probably does. He'd love nothing more than for a child raised by a gay couple to run away, and join a fundamentalist church and claim that his gay parents abused him, and the only reason the authorities wanted to put him back in the same houses as those men was because of political correctness, and that the feds were too bigoted against Christians to protect the child from the gay couple. He'd than get the homophobic equivalent of Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller to defend the kid in court against his "vile" homosexual parents and their lawyers.

Ad linking Romney to death of the wife of a laid off steelworker not accurate

The ad makes it seem like Joe Soptic's wife, Ilyona Ranae Soptic, lost her battle with cancer shortly after he lost his job at GST Steel in Missouri, where he had worked for almost 30 years.

"When Mitt Romney closed the plant I lost my healthcare, and my family lost their healthcare," Soptic says in the ad put out by Priorities USA Action, the main pro-Obama super PAC. "A short time after that, my wife became ill. I don’t know how long she was sick and I think maybe she didn’t say anything because she knew we couldn’t afford the insurance."

It's a very heart-wrenching story, but it’s not accurate. Here is the actual timeline:

Romney stopped his day-to-day oversight at Bain Capital in 1999 when he left to run the Salt Lake City Olympics, though he officially remained CEO until 2002. Bain Capital shut down GST Steel in 2001, costing Soptic his job.

According to Mr. Soptic, his wife received her primary insurance through her employer – a local thrift store called Savers – and retained it even after his layoff. Soptic's policy through GST Steel was her secondary coverage.

In 2002, Mitt Romney formally left Bain. Sometime in 2002 or 2003, Mr. Soptic says his wife injured her rotator cuff and was forced to leave her job. As a result she lost her health insurance coverage and Mr. Soptic's new job as a janitor did not provide coverage for his spouse.

It was a few years later, in 2006, that Ilyona Soptic went to the hospital with symptoms of pneumonia. She was diagnosed with stage four cancer and passed away just days later.

It was the first Egyptian airstrikes since 1973 in the Sinai. The raid had to be coordinated with Israel as per the Camp David Accords - and suggests that Egypt is more than willing to abide by the terms of the agreement particularly when its own forces are at risk of being targeted by terrorists from Gaza. There have been at least three additional skirmishes between Egyptian forces and terrorists along the Sinai frontier since the deadly attack that killed 16 security forces.

New anti-Romney ad: same steelworker, tougher message (revised)

(NOTE: Since we had previously examined at length the circumstances of this Bain investment, we originally had restated the main points of an earlier column. Frankly, we were a bit distracted trying to untangle the welfare charges and countercharges on Tuesday. But new information has come to light and we have updated the column with a Pinocchio rating.)
...
Soptic is welcome to his opinion on possible reasons for his wife’s death, but that does not mean Obama supporters should exploit it. On just every level, this ad stretches the bounds of common sense and decency.

And yes, I am playing Devil's Advocate here. Just trying to figure out what the limits are. At what point does disgustingly distasteful become restricted?

It is understood that you cannot go and have noisy protests at somebodies house in the street. It deprives that person and the neighbors from use of their property. I am not sure what any rulings are concerning protests at a wedding or Bar Mitzva, but I tend to error towards protecting the solemnity of important social ceremonies, including funerals. Forcing hundreds of people to share in your speech who do not wish to do so and disrupting a significant social ceremony like a funeral should be illegal in my view. I really do think the SCOTUS got this wrong. Disrupting a funeral and exploiting grief should not be a protected form of speech any more then having those same people screaming in front of my house at 3 in the morning.

I'm also seeing reports of individual vehicles being targeted. To me that suggests that Israel is providing intel and possible drone surveillance. I'm glad to see that the MB is willing to let the military clean up Sinai. I was worried they might sit back and let the terror groups operate. This is good news.

He is not an infrequent guest since his mom has to travel on occasion for her job. For some reason, my boys are not liking his presence this time. When I try to give him some extra lovies to help ease his pain from missing his mom my boys GLARE at me. Man, the looks I am getting are killers. One of them even gave me a disapproving growl last night at bed time - the first time ever.

272 iossarian  Wed, Aug 8, 2012 8:59:53am

The ad clearly lays out the progression that the Romneys of the world prescribe as the correct economic path to take:

- businesses are asset-stripped by investors to extract value
- as a result, solid middle-class jobs are lost and replaced with lower-wage transient employment
- in a country where there is no guarantee of healthcare without money to pay for it (again because of the right wing), this means that people forego medical treatment
- people die as a result: wives, husbands, sons, daughters

Romney gets his dancing horses and his mansions, regular folk die of preventable causes.

Is pointing that out classless? Tells you a lot about class in the US if it is.

Newt Alleges Welfare Conspiracy, Calls Obama ‘The Anti-Clinton’

Newt Gingrich accused President Obama on Wednesday of a secret “radical” plot to end work requirements in welfare reform, brushing aside denials from both the Republican architect of the 1996 bill and the Democratic president who signed it into law.

“I think on the hard left, there is an unending desire to create a dependent America,” Gingrich said.

“It’s not just that Obama is a radical, it’s that the people he appoints are more radical,” he said.” Gingrich also accused Secretary of Health and Human Service Kathleen Sebelius of lying when she pledged to veto state requests to water down work requirements in welfare.

Gingrich joined Mitt Romney and other Republican leaders in contrasting former President Bill Clinton, whom they now hold up as a model of bipartisanship, with Obama.

---

But Gingrich’s repeated insistence that Obama had gutted work requirements in welfare were flatly false. Despite Gingrich’s praise, Clinton himself decried the latest attacks from the right as “not true” and “misleading.” The Republican aide who crafted the 1996 law, Ron Haskins, said Wednesday that “there’s no plausible scenario under which it really constitutes a serious attack on welfare reform.”

Curiosity sends back flood of new views from Mars

A 3-D view in front of NASA's Curiosity rover, which landed on Mars on August 5, 2012, is seen in this image released by NASA August 7, 2012. The anaglyph was made from a stereo pair of Hazard-Avoidance Cameras on the front of the rover. Mount Sharp, a peak that is about 5.5 miles (3.4 miles) high, is visible rising above the terrain, though in one "eye" a box on the rover holding the drill bits obscures the view. This image was captured by Hazard-Avoidance cameras on the front of the rover at full resolution shortly after the rover landed. It has been linearized to remove the distorted appearance that results from its fisheye lens.

In the United State of America, without the universal coverage offered by the ACA, people who do not have the money to pay for a doctor are told to piss off and die quietly.

The idea, propagated by the American right wing, that it's okay because "hospitals can't turn people away" is a myth. Yes, you can go to the emergency room after you're already screwed and they'll have to treat you, but this does not really help you, AND it simply passes the cost onto everyone who *can* pay. The best care is preventative care. If you cannot pay, you may very well die from something that you would have lived through, had you been able to get treated months or years earlier.

This is not about "subsidizing unhealthy lifestyles", as the right likes to claim. Cancer does not give one single shit what your lifestyle is. Certain choices, such as smoking, can increase your risk. But you can develop cancer even if you life your life perfectly healthy at all times.

Yes, employer-based health insurance is a failure of a system. That is why it needs to be replaced by universal single-payer. Mitt Romney intends to maintain the status-quo. The status-quo means that people who cannot afford medical care die. You do the math.

Jewish gal shows up IOC with a gold salute to Munich 11

It wasn’t a gloved-fist salute from the medal stand, but Jewish-American gymnast Aly Raisman made quite a statement yesterday by winning a gold medal and invoking the memory of the Israeli athletes killed 40 years ago in Munich.

Raisman finished first in the women’s floor exercise, but she deserves to have another medal draped around her neck for having the chutzpah to face the world and do what needed to be done and say what needed to be said.

At the same Olympic Games where bigoted organizers stubbornly refuse to honor the slain athletes with a moment of silence, 18-year-old Raisman loudly shocked observers first by winning, then by paying her own tribute to 11 sportsmen who died long before she was born.

And if that weren’t enough, she won her event with the Hebrew folk song “Hava Nagila” playing in the background.

“Having that floor music wasn’t intentional,” an emotional but poised Raisman told reporters after her performance.

“But the fact it was on the 40th anniversary is special, and winning the gold today means a lot to me.”

Then Raisman stuck the landing.

“If there had been a moment’s silence,” the 18-year-old woman told the world, “I would have supported it and respected it.”

It was 40 years ago at the 1972 Munich Games that members of the Israeli Olympic delegation were taken hostage and eventually killed by Palestinian radicals.

Executed in the massacre were 11 Israeli athletes and officials and a West German police officer.

The martyrs were remembered this week during a London ceremony filled with sadness and reflection.

But not a peep about them has been said publicly in the one place where it counts — at the Summer Games on Olympic soil.

Uh oh...

Hezbollah smuggles high-grade explosives into Israel

A series of Hezbollah terror attacks inside Israel were foiled recently by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) after a group of Israeli-Arabs helped smuggle 20 kilograms of high-grade explosives into Israel.

On Wednesday, eight residents of Nazareth and the town of Ghajar - half of which is in Israel and the other half in Lebanon - were charged in the Nazareth District Court with assisting in the infiltration of the explosives.

The 20 kg of C-4 explosives - each kilogram was wrapped separately and could have been used to assemble a separate bomb - were smuggled into Israel in a single bag by a number of residents of Ghajar on June 5.

The bag was transferred a few days later to a resident of Nazareth, Abed Zoabi - another known drug dealer - who hid the bag in his backyard where it was captured by the Israel Police in mid July.

"The explosives could have been used against any type of target inside Israel," a senior Shin Bet official said on Wednesday. "This is just the tip of the iceberg of Hezbollah's efforts against Israel...the attempted attack here and the recent attack in Bulgaria are all carried out by the same organization."

This is a big catch. How much have they missed?

Cindy Jacobs: I Have the Power to Revive Dead Children

Televangelist and self-styled Apostle Cindy Jacobs possesses the supernatural power to initiate miracles. It isn’t too far-fetched, considering that her mentor and founder of the New Apostolic Reformation C. Peter Wagner has claimed that people like himself “can do the same or greater things than Jesus did.” On the August 6th edition of her show God Knows, the self-proclaimed “respected prophet” channeled her supernatural powers live on air to revive a dead child, claiming to have done so in the past as well. Jacobs has previously claimed that Satan “wants to steal God’s family and create tyranny” and that health care reform requires everyone to have a computer chip “put in their finger” in order to receive care.

And people actually fall for this horseshit?

I lost my best friend to MS a number of years ago. She deteriorated at a shocking speed - perhaps because she did not have resources beyond treatment afforded by Medicaid - and I had to put her in a nursing home (I had her power of attorney) when it got too bad for her to remain at home. It is a horrific disease and I still grieve the loss of this wonderful, vibrant woman.

AFA President: "We are on the Road to Self-Destruction"

Is America worth trying to save? Save from what you might ask. Is America worth saving from self-destruction? Maybe that's a better question to ask.

Civilizations have risen and fallen through the ages. Countries have been birthed and countries have died. I believe the United States of America was birthed by the God of the Bible primarily for the purpose of advancing the gospel of Jesus Christ both here and around the world unlike any other country in history.

In modern day America, there is very little shame anymore. Most Americans have lost their fear of God. We are on the road to self-destruction.

Secularists mock the idea of God. Judges forbid even the acknowledgement of God in many public places. We teach our children they come from monkeys. Those who hold to the biblical definition of marriage are called hatemongers. The entertainment industry promotes sex without moral standards day after day, movie after movie, song after song - influencing our youth beyond measure. Try to raise any objection to this tide of immorality and you are quickly shouted down, ridiculed, called a prude, a hater, a religious nut, a censor or a fundamentalist.

What we are experiencing today in America is unbridled selfishness and licentiousness and the results are manifesting themselves in many terrible ways that will only get worse if things don't change.

For the Christian in America today there is only so much we can do. Only 43% of our fellow countrymen even go to church today. We are now outnumbered. But that which we can do, with God's help, we must do. We can pray to God that He send revival to America. We can continue to build strong Christian families. We can put our denominational barriers aside when there are shared values we can defend concerning issues that affect the moral health of our nation. We can share our faith. We can continue to hold high the standard of righteousness and we can vote for candidates who best reflect our values. There are no perfect candidates, but we are a nation of laws so we must elect the best available lawmakers to govern us and hold them accountable.

So to answer my own question, yes, America is worth trying to save. For our children, grandchildren and generations to come. We cannot give up. There is nowhere else to start over. There is nowhere else to sail to.

This reminds me of the scene in "Lamb", where the young Jesus is shoving through a crowd, muttering "Healed HIM, healed HER, cast a demon out of HER, whoops, really bad arthritis there, GOT IT." And banging into people lieu of laying on hands.

I am fascinated with Benny Hinn's schtick. The first time my husband showed me a video, I said something to the effect of "What is he doing with his hands, channeling chi?"

My husband, who is not from Northern California, said "making money".

Egyptian Cleric Sallah Sultan: People Worldwide "Thirst for the Blood of the Jews"

Following are excerpts from two Friday sermons delivered by Egyptian cleric Sallah Sultan, the founder of the Ohio-based American Center for Islamic Research. The sermons aired on Al-Aqsa TV on July 27 and August 3, 2012.

Sallah Sultan: I travel all over the world, and I met supporters of Al-Aqsa, of the prisoners, of Jerusalem, and of Palestine – people who thirst for the blood of the Jews, and who are eager for the promised war against the sons of Zion, until Palestine is liberated in its entirety. .

[...].

Under the previous [Egyptian] regime over 30,000 Zionists entered Egypt every month, defiling its land. The Egyptian police were forced to protect them, while they were getting drunk and picking fights. .

There was a great scandal, when [alleged Israeli spy] Misrati and some Jews entered Egypt, in order to commit all kinds of crimes here: counterfeit dollars, taking photographs of military bases, girls with AIDS seducing young Egyptians in order to infect them, and the vilest act of all – for the price of one Egyptian pound Misrati and his gang would seduce young Egyptian boys from Cairo, Alexandria and Upper Egypt. They took young children who did not know any better and sodomized them. .

Jon Stewart: Wow, Romney’s Biz Practices Are ‘Too Shady’ For Italy

Jon Stewart on Tuesday focused on Mitt Romney’s controversial business dealings in Italy, after a Bloomberg report found that Bain Capital took over a company there and skirted taxes by funneling profits through Luxembourg. The Bloomberg report suggests Romney may have skipped over Italy on his foreign trip to avoid an awkward confrontation.

“Wow, Mitt Romney’s business practices are too shady for Italy,” Stewart said, stunned. “Mitt Romney has to say to Italy, ‘I’m a legitimate businessman.’ Italy, a country where the prime minister, the head of the country’s largest media conglomerate and the host of their finest ‘bunga bunga’ parties is the same fucking guy.”

Quite different, actually. The AFA sell the standard modern American line, which is essentially Baptist, and offers salvation to pretty much anyone who accepts Jesus and lives the AFA's version of a good American lifestyle, which is, conveniently, pretty much the way a lot of Americans will live given half a chance. Sure, they're paranoid and politically horrific, but theologically recognizable as related to, say, the faith my friend Tammy practices.

The Westies are some kind of weird Calvinists on drugs. Salvation is available to practically no one, and their 'politics' extend well beyond the standard hopped up religious right rhetoric. There is no one righteous, except possible Fred Phelps, and I think on a good day, even he would admit he might be damned too.
