Nate Silver Increases Obama’s Electoral Advantage to 300.4 vs 237.6
Nate Silver has crunched the numbers from the latest polls in great detail, as is his wont, and it looks like President Obama’s electoral college advantage is actually increasing.

I know many have said it and I'll agree that the only poll that really matters is the one that happens Tuesday.
But to believe Silver is totally wrong at this point, you have to believe that most of the pollsters are wrong and there's something going on in the swing states that none of them are accounting for. And if that's the case, then there's gonna be calls for a lot of heads Wednesday morning.

O’Reilly producer interviews drunk partyers to gauge ‘single lady’ vote
It’s no secret that women will be an important voting bloc next Tuesday when the nation goes to the polls to elect its next president. Wednesday on “The O’Reilly Factor,” Fox News’s Bill O’Reilly wondered which way women will vote on November 6 and sent producer Jesse Watters to interview some young, single women voters.
“We decided to do our own investigation,” O’Reilly said, “and that involved sending Jesse Watters out to canvass the ‘single ladies,’ who themselves were out socializing, pre-Halloween.”
The pundit then rolled Watters’s segment, which began with lots of women of approximately college age spliced together announcing their intention to “party.”
When the producer asked the women who they plan to vote for, the answers were varied, and about what a viewer would expect from political questions posed to people in bars.

Fischer: 'There Will be Blood' and 'Civil Unrest' if Obama Loses
On yesterday's radio program, Bryan Fischer expounded on a tweet he sent out the other day predicting that there would be organized "flash mobs" who would loot and riot if Mitt Romney wins the election. Fischer based this theory on reports of looting in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, saying such looting "is just a preview of what's going to happen if President Obama loses the election" and warning that "there will be blood" and "civil unrest"

Mitt Romney's campaign is running a Spanish-language ad in Florida that claims Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro's niece would support President Barack Obama.
The spot shows a clip of Chavez saying that if he were American, "I'd vote for Obama." The Venezuelan leader did say that in September, when he also called Obama "a good guy.".....
......There's a similar clip featuring Castro's niece, Mariela, who has no official link to the Cuban government. She's a noted advocate of gay rights and has praised Obama's stand in support of same sex marriage.

Nate Silver to Scarborough: Bet you $1,000 Romney loses
New York Times statistician and Five Thirty Eight blogger Nate Silver has bet MSNBC pundit and host of “Morning Joe,” Joe Scarborough $1,000 that his statistical model holds true and that President Barack Obama wins re-election. According to Atlantic Monthly‘s Atlantic Wire blog, Silver posted the challenge to his Twitter account on Wednesday after Scarborough spent the morning broadcast attempting to savage Silver’s credibility.
“If you think it’s a toss-up, let’s bet. If Obama wins, you donate $1,000 to the American Red Cross. If Romney wins, I do. Deal?” Silver tweeted.
He was responding to remarks Scarborough made on Monday calling the race a dead heat and impugning Silver’s objectivity.
“Anybody that thinks that this race is anything but a toss-up right now is such an ideologue,” Scarborough said, “They should be kept away from typewriters, computers, laptops, and microphones for the next ten days, because they’re jokes.”

Nate from Tuesday:
Mr. Obama’s lead in the Electoral College is modest, but also quite consistent across the different methods. The states in which every site has Mr. Obama leading make up 271 electoral votes — one more than the president needs to clinch victory. The states in which everyone has Mr. Romney ahead represent 206 electoral votes. That leaves five states, and 61 electoral votes, unaccounted for — but Mr. Obama would not need them if he prevails in the states where he is leading in the polls.

And he's right, to believe at this point that Willard can pull it off, you have to believe that the polls are not reading something happening on the ground across several states. Not impossible, but very highly improbable. Unhinged local leadership will be a wild card in the Republican response to an Obama victory. Lubbock's Judge Tom Head became a global laughing stock a few weeks ago for suggesting the county should prepare to resist the UN troops Obama plans to bring in after the election. At least one county attorney in this part of the country has bought into the Sovereign Citizen myth that county sheriffs can overrule any and all action by state or federal officials. These crazy people are not at all a rarity among local parties around the country. I don't think this has received enough attention, partly because the national party naturally refuses to acknowledge that these people even exist. It's one thing for a lone wolf nut to reject the results of an election, quite another if an elected official at any level does it. Chances are that any official who tried to take action against the federal government would simply be arrested by the local police. This might not happen in every case however. We could see yokel sheriffs locking federal offices, illegally arresting the opposition, and trying to interfere with election certification.
They would be squashed flat of course, but given the right combination of conspiracy beliefs and mob support, it could be ugly.

Catholic Bishop Who Compared Obama To Hitler Orders Anti-Obama Letter Read From Pulpit
In a letter, Jenky told the priests in his diocese “by virtue of your vow of obedience to me as your Bishop, I require that this letter be personally read by each celebrating priest at each Weekend Mass, November 3/4.” The letter leaves little doubt that Jenky wants Obama out of the White House:
Neither the president of the United States nor the current majority of the Federal Senate have been willing to even consider the Catholic community’s grave objections to those HHS mandates that would require all Catholic institutions, exempting only our church buildings, to fund abortion, sterilization, and artificial contraception. . . . Nearly two thousand years ago, after our Savior had been bound, beaten, scourged, mocked, and crowned with thorns, a pagan Roman Procurator displayed Jesus to a hostile crowd by sarcastically declaring: Behold your King. The mob roared back: We have no king but Caesar. Today, Catholic politicians, bureaucrats, and their electoral supporters who callously enable the destruction of innocent human life in the womb also thereby reject Jesus as their Lord. They are objectively guilty of grave sin.For those who hope for salvation, no political loyalty can ever take precedence over loyalty to the Lord Jesus Christ and to his Gospel of Life. God is not mocked, and as the Bible clearly teaches, after this passing instant of life on earth, God’s great mercy in time will give way to God’s perfect judgment in eternity.
I therefore call upon every practicing Catholic in this Diocese to vote. Be faithful to Christ and to your Catholic Faith.

69 Percent Of Outside Money Benefited Romney And Republicans
And yet they're still on track to lose the presidency and the Senate majority.
What are the odds that, after this election, they'll be more amenable to addressing the regulatory need in the wake of Citizens United?

They're now saying that the incubation period of prion diseases like CJD might be 30-50 years. So I'm not sure I'll be able to give blood before I get old enough to start needing blood transfusions myself.
Our risk of exposure ended in '92. This might have been an experiment or a desperate case. The clinic is highly regarded.

In Harry Turteldove's alternate history, The Victorious Opposition, Union General MacArthur rolls tanks through the streets of Lubbock to confront Confederate rioters in a local park. He ends up using canister shot to disperse them. Later, the Army Air Corps firebombs downtown Lubbock and the Army shells it with giant railway guns.
(This is all set in the 1930s in a world where the Confederacy won the Civil War but lost the Great War of 1914-17, and where Lubbock is the capital of the new Union state of Houston.)
Harry was here in 2000 doing research for the book. I wonder if he met some of the local Republicans and decided to include some veiled prophecy in his fictional history.

Here's the thing about Republicans. Yes, they hate having a black president...but they actually hate having a Democratic one more, so race isn't their primary motivation (it's part, but not all of it). They can make as much noise and complain about Democratic policies as they like, because at the end of the day, if the policies are implemented, they benefit along with everyone else, so in their minds, they see no risk. If, perchance, they win, and the people they backed create policies that fuck them over, they can still blame the Democrats for making it possible.
They're seriously fucked in the head.

Well I went on the record here after the debates to declare Obama the winner and will be elected for a second term. It's a gut feeling and I'm usually right. I don't really follow polls and I'm pretty sick of them.
Like many I already voted. Laughing with Donna aka D-L just this morning after a Feinstein spot-"You know what's great about early voting? You can ignore the commercials. You know what sucks about early voting? You CAN'T really ignore the annoying commercials."

Had a qualm about supporting the FL black churches' "Souls-to-Polls" effort. Managed to set it aside until my wife's bishops STFU.

My dad's hometown, Calhoun, Kentucky, made it into one of those books as well (Union tanks camoflauged as Confederates seized the bridge, which I've crossed many times, by surprise). I think the vast majority of the freeper set talk a big game, but when it comes right down to it, they are just keyboard warriors. So we don't have to fear civil war, just terrorist attacks by the few crazy McVeigh types.

Sam Wang has an interesting discussion about the discrepancy between the national and state polls:
In this year's race, national polls show a tie, while state polls show a decisive Obama advantage. Here I suggest that the difference may arise from the fact that the same systematic pollster errors can have different effects depending on whether they occur in national vs. state surveys. Based on past elections, national poll aggregates differ from election results by as much as 2.5%. During the same period, state-poll aggregation has been considerably more accurate. Even if state polls have the same accuracy as national polls, races at that level are usually decided by larger margins, leaving room for aggregation to remove the effect of the error. I suggest that the Meta-Analysis of state polls provides a more accurate poll-based prediction of next Tuesday's outcome than national polls.

I only wonder what more Fox and the Right Wing blobs can make up that is more off the wall than now.

I would say no but we could use 'tax reform' as an opportunity to do away with charitable deductions from all sources including religious institutions.
I don't think they should be taxed on the money that is donated, I'm OK with the concept of non-profit, but the government shouldn't be refunding any of it back to the givers, especially in ways that are worth more to people in the higher tax brackets.

Neither the president of the United States nor the current majority of the Federal Senate have been willing to even consider the Catholic community’s grave objections to those HHS mandates
