DeMint’s Salary Will Increase by 500% at the Heritage Foundation

Lying and promoting conspiracy theories pays big on the right
Politics • Views: 19,479

Wingnut welfare, writ large. If you were wondering why in the world Jim DeMint would resign from the Senate to take over the leadership of the Heritage Foundation propaganda tank, wonder no more.

Senator Jim DeMint announced today that he was retiring from the Senate in order to run the conservative Heritage Foundation think tank.

He’s also probably getting quite a raise. …

As a Senator, he makes $174,000 per year. At Heritage, he’ll probably make at least $1 million.

Must be nice to get rewarded for being a failure and DeMint is a failure when you look at his candidates of choice who cost the GOP the Senate the last two elections. Plus as some others have mentioned. He's got a nice and cozy Congressional pension now that he wouldn't have received if he had resigned earlier. Typical right wing politician, bitches about the government but has no problem exploiting it to line his own pockets.

GOP Energy Chair Received Last-Minute Big Oil Donations After Hinting Oil Subsidies Could End

Like many of his GOP colleagues, the oil and gas industry is one of Upton’s top industry donors. He has received nearly $450,000 from the oil and gas industry over his career in the House, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Interestingly, when Upton said he would look at oil subsidies, Big Oil sent last-minute contributions to the candidate. New campaign filings show that since Upton made his comment early in October, he received several new donations from oil companies:

– ExxonMobil PAC gave $5,000 on 10/23, bringing its total for Upton this cycle to $10,000.
– Valero Energy gave $5,000 on 10/24.
– Petroleum Marketers Association of Americas gave $4,000 on 11/5.
– Marathon Oil COO Dave E. Roberts gave $2,500 on 10/29.
– ConocoPhillips PAC gave $1,000 on 11/5, bringing its cycle total to $8,000.

Upton’s leadership PAC raised another $47,000 from the oil and gas industry this cycle, drawing $25,000 from Valero Energy and $10,000 from Koch Industries, among other oil and gas companies. Overall, he raised $4 million and spent more than $4.5 million to defeat his challenger Mike O’Brien.

Decided to listen to The Big Rich. So far it's pretty well written and well narrated. Kinda in the Robert Caro meme.

I'm not very far into it, but I can see the relevance of this time and place in history and our current political climate.

Dems Slam NRSC For ‘Underhanded And Dishonest’ Dealings With Todd Akin

So it turns out that after all the condemnations and repudiations, the National Republican Senatorial Committee really did put big money behind Rep. Todd Akin’s (R) Missouri Senate bid.

In a blistering statement, Democrats allege that the new FEC filings prove the NRSC was “underhanded and dishonest” in Missouri this year.

Late Thursday night, USA Today reported the NRSC “pumped $760,000 into the Show-Me State” in the closing days of the Senate contest. That fits with late October speculation about the NRSC’s actions. The NRSC money went to the Missouri Republican Party’s federal campaign committee in two installments of $360,000 and $400,000 each, on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2, USA Today reported:

The state party reported paying almost exactly that amount — $756,000 — to Strategic Media Placement, an Ohio firm that Akin had used to buy his TV ad time, on Oct. 30 and Nov. 1. The state party’s FEC report shows the funds were for “W. Todd Akin.”

Lying dirtbags.

Fox News Op-Ed Says Women’s Nature Is To Be Dominated By Men

[W]omen shouldn’t let their success in the workplace become the biggest thing in their lives. If the ultimate goal is lasting love – and let’s face it: for most people it is – women are going to have to become comfortable with sacrifice and capitulation. …

Surrendering to your femininity means many things. It means letting your man be the man despite the fact that you’ve proven you’re his equal. It means recognizing the fact that you may very well want to stay home with your babies – and that that’s normal. Surrendering to your femininity means if you do work outside the home, you don’t use your work to play tit for tat in your marriage. It means tapping into that part of yourself that’s genuinely vulnerable and really does need a man – even though the culture says you don’t.

In other words, put down your sword. It’s okay if your guy’s in charge. It’s okay if you don’t drive the car. In fact, it’s rather liberating.

They don't even realize that the idea is a very recent modern one. Were the frontier women barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen? Nope they were making clothes, tending vegetable gardens, tending the livestock, making candles or rendering tallow for lamps, canning food for the winter, and doing a million other things that were essential to the survival of the family. They worked their asses off at something that was much more than a full time job.

This idea that the "poor little dears" should have no responsibility or cares other than cleaning the house or minding the children is a very recent fiction.
