Texas Dept. of Public Safety Officers to Texas Tribune: We Saw No Jars Containing Feces or Urine

Protesters Question Report on Confiscations | the Texas Tribune

The Texas Department of Public Safety said Friday that officers had discovered more than a dozen jars containing “suspected” feces and urine at the Texas Capitol, the site of an intense debate among state senators over abortion restrictions.

In a press release, the agency offered scant details about the seizures and did not say where the items were taken or what happened to them, prompting abortion rights activists to express doubts about the official account.

The department said the items were found after the agency received information that protesters had planned to use a “variety of items or props to disrupt legislative proceedings at the Texas Capitol.”

“During these inspections, DPS officers have thus far discovered one jar suspected to contain urine, 18 jars suspected to contain feces, and three bottles suspected to contain paint,” the news release said. “All of these items — as well as significant quantities of feminine hygiene products, glitter and confetti possessed by individuals — were required to be discarded; otherwise those individuals were denied entry into the gallery.”

DPS officers outside the Senate gallery and at each entrance to the Capitol told The Texas Tribune they had not seen or found jars containing feces or urine, and multiple officers throughout the Capitol said they had not heard of any jars being found until a reporter mentioned it. Several officers also said they had not heard anything on the DPS radio system about jars of any excrement.

In other words, the story is a whole jar of feces. Someone concocted this rumor, got someone to buy into it, and then used the rumor as an excuse to crack down on legitimate protesters.

There’s so many levels of wrong here, I don’t even know where to start - other than recommending that Texans vote out every single one of these GOPers at the earliest opportunity for subverting the political process by any means necessary.

Any measures to prevent a woman from getting pregnant = THE HOLOCAUST!

27 austin_blue  Fri, Jul 12, 2013 7:20:12pm

Number of deaths related to abortion procedures in the last 12 years in Texas? Five. Last death related to an abortion procedure in Texas? 2008. Number of deaths related to pregnancy and birthing in the last 12 years? 848.

So abortion procedures have 2.5% the rate of pregnancy and birthing deaths per 100,000 procedures.

So all abortion services have to have hoops to jump through, but you can have a kid at home?

Yup, it’s all about women’s health!

33 austin_blue  Fri, Jul 12, 2013 7:28:04pm

Gotta repost this from downstairs. It’s a good story!

I came in to the house from work at six and wondered why She Who Must Be Obeyed was laughing and weeping at her twitter feed of the current craziness in the Texas Senate (nb: These are the *smart* ones).

“They were letting handguns into the chambers, but not feminine hygiene products!”, she gasped.

Thinking quickly, I said “Whaa?”

“Kirk Watson finally got them to quit just now!”

Now Kirk is my State Senator. Used to be my mayor. He’s a pompous little popinjay, sometimes, but his heart is in the right place. I’ve taken a leak next to Kirk Watson. I’ve had beer and BBQ with Kirk Watson. But I had SWMBO immediately tweet the Kirkster (I don’t tweet. I’m a Luddite.) as soon as I understood the sheer idiocy of what was transpiring and tell him that he should have kept his fucking piehole shut and continued to let the world know at just what level of DERP that this state operates.

Two minutes later, he calls me on the phone (I give him money) and says “You don’t think the world knows this? I just wanted to bust their balls and make ‘em roll in the shitstorm.”

We both laughed. I told him to get some rest when this is over and enjoy his family.

Good times!

Obviously, the solution to this problem is to make abortions illegal. Then the back alley abortions that will occur as a result of the ban will have a greater death toll than pregnancy and birthing.

Just as God intended.

The Bay Area is nice.

Minus the utter lack of thunderstorms.

But we have outdoor Shakespeare productions!

(Also, San Jose-ish folks, Shady Shakespeare is doing free performances of Twelfth Night in Bramhall Park through July 21, and then their normal shows up at Sanborne (for ticket fees) of Romeo and Juliet and the Complete (Abridged) Works of William Shakespeare. We’ve been supporting them for years and will be going to the Twelfth Night performance tomorrow night. August 2nd for the normal show - skipping Romeo and Juliet because I am not a fan of that no matter the interpretation.)

Sec. C 171.043. ABORTION OF UNBORN CHILD OF 20 OR MORE WEEKS
POST-FERTILIZATION AGE PROHIBITED. Except as otherwise provided by
Section 171.045, a person may not perform or induce or attempt to
perform or induce an abortion on a woman if it has been determined,
by the physician performing, inducing, or attempting to perform or
induce the abortion or by another physician on whose determination
that physician relies, that the probable post-fertilization age of
the unborn child is 20 or more weeks.
Sec. 171.044. METHOD OF ABORTION. (a) This section applies
only to an abortion authorized under Section 171.045(a)(1) or (2)
in which:
(1) the probable post-fertilization age of the unborn
child is 20 or more weeks; or
(2) the probable post-fertilization age of the unborn
child has not been determined but could reasonably be 20 or more
weeks.
(b) Except as otherwise provided by Section 171.045(a)(3),
a physician performing an abortion under Subsection (a) shall
terminate the pregnancy in the manner that, in the physician’s
reasonable medical judgment, provides the best opportunity for the
unborn child to survive.

Sec. 171.045. EXCEPTIONS. (a) The prohibitions and
requirements under Sections 171.042, 171.043, and 171.044 do not
apply to an abortion performed if there exists a condition that, in
the physician’s reasonable medical judgment, so complicates the
medical condition of the woman that, to avert the woman’s death or a
serious risk of substantial or irreversible physical impairment of
a major bodily function, other than a psychological condition, it
necessitates, as applicable:
(1) the immediate abortion of her pregnancy without
the delay necessary to determine the probable post-fertilization
age of the unborn child;
(2) the abortion of her pregnancy even though the
post-fertilization age of the unborn child is 20 or more weeks; or
(3) the use of a method of abortion other than a method
described by Section 171.044(b).
(b) A physician may not take an action authorized under
Subsection (a) if the risk of death or a substantial and
irreversible physical impairment of a major bodily function arises
from a claim or diagnosis that the woman will engage in conduct that
may result in her death or in substantial and irreversible physical
impairment of a major bodily function.

A fed intern oversteps her authority when she changes the toilet paper roll in the ladies room. The intern has a keeper, who will not be available for comments.

Wingnut logic.

It makes sense if you treat the woman’s body as a cipher to childbirth, which the law is effectively treating it as.

I’ll admit, I can buy the argument that the intern was handling the phone call either on his own or while the keeper was out of the room, especially if all the intern had to say was “yeah.” The station admits they didn’t do proper verification of who they were speaking to.

I use gender pronouns here to match the gender pronouns used in the NTSB press release.

I found HB 2. It does state that in this version that an abortion after 20 weeks gestation may be done in the event of “severe fetal abnormality.” I looked up what that meant, and found it

means a life threatening physical condition that, in reasonable medical judgment, regardless of the provision of life saving medical treatment, is incompatible with life outside the womb.

That takes out any decision a woman may make regarding a fetus with genetic problems that will shorten the life of a child or cause them a lifetime of painful medical treatments or wipe a family out financially.

Bunch of fucking asswipes.

Full transcript of Kirk Watson’s remarks on HB2

An excerpt. All bolding is mine:

More than one of you has asked in the last few weeks, earnestly and in good-faith, why people believe you’re waging a war on women.

It’s because the only solutions you’ll consider are the ones that limit women’s options.

It’s because women see you driving them back into a dark, painful, terrifying time of unsafe procedures and quiet, shameful, months-long exiles - a time when abortion was neither safe nor legal.

It’s because women are connecting the dots between this decision and others that left them with less health care, fewer health providers, and inadequate remedies under state law if their bosses were discriminating against them. Women’s healthcare still hasn’t recovered from the decisions of the last legislature.

And women don’t understand why you keep coming after them. It’s not just politics to them, members. It’s their lives.

As I’ve said before, there’s no justifying all of this by saying that you care about women, you’re married to a woman, you love a woman, or you are a woman - so your intentions are pure even if your vote will harm countless women in this state.

All of us on this floor - like all of us in this state and this country - have been talking about this issue for a long time. Please know that I’ve listened to you and I’ve heard you. I’ve tried hard to put myself in your place and to understand your position. I see how you focus on the event - the stand-alone event - of a pregnancy. I sincerely understand that you see it as a live-giving event that deserves protection from the state.

What I don’t understand is why you would build these regulations and laws around this event, but you won’t acknowledge the continuum of the life of the woman who’s experiencing it. How can you impose these laws on individuals’ bodies and choices - all in the name of life - with scarcely a thought to the life of the woman who’s choices and options are being taken away?

Amen.

Talking about this with the husband, he also pointed out that it’s possible whoever (intern, boss’s son, whatever) they talked to couldn’t believe someone was calling in to verify those names and so laughed it off with a sure, whatever, not realizing it was real.

I don’t want to absolve the NTSB on this - they screwed up, have acknowledged it, and that’s fine - but KTVU clearly shoulders the majority of the blame.

So the story CNN ran with before actually calling the proper sources turns out to be bullshit. My surprise, let me show you it. And my comment from last night at 6:40 PM, telling them to do actual journalism is STILL in moderation. What a fucking joke.

I see our new troll was booted out the door too. Good. Obnoxious ass. Though it is good to spar with them now and then to keep the debate muscles in shape. I notice he really had nothing to say back to me once I pointed out the CBO report he cited contradicted half his point.

He also had nothing to say about what his plans might be to help all those babies that the forced birth crowd loves until they’re born. I notice, they never do.

Edward Snowden as an oracle of knowledge.

I’m still surprised Chris Hayes hasn’t asked Glenn Greenwald if he shouldn’t, out of respect for his nation of birth, given the US government copies of his copies of Snowden’s files - just so they’re aware of everything that HAS been stolen (in case one of the 10,000 or so docs happens to have info that could put people’s lives in danger - give the government a chance to move them to safety). You’d think that would be a no-brainer.

Here:

You can embed a Tweet in your comment. The time signature in a Tweet is a link to that Tweet. Copy the link and paste it into your comment on its own line. Preview to see how it will look. All the little widgets in the Tweet will be functional in your comment, operating through a pop up window. You can even retweet it from the Master Spy. When you reply to a comment containing an embedded Tweet, it gets removed. If you want a Tweet to appear in your reply as it does in the comment you are replying to, you can copy the link in the embedded Tweet as you would one at Twitter.

Honest to god, I can’t even begin to unpack all the weapons grade stupid in that one freaking post. Not to mention the lies.

Sometimes I wish these mansplaining assholes had to spend a year of 24/7 days doing two things. First, taking care of 5 kids under age 11 with no help, a severely limited budget and no vehicle(with supervision-no physical help- by someone who knows what they’re doing). Second, time spent in an emergency room in a major metropolitan area, shadowing OB/GYNs on ER rotation, mouth shut and no internet. It seems the only way any of these jerks find even a shred of empathy is when confronted with the results of their assholishness directly.

Corruption is so systemic in Zimbabwe, one of Africa’s poorest countries, that a local hospital charges mothers-to-be $5 every time they scream while giving birth. That’s according to an extensive new report from Transparency International on corruption around the world, which also notes that a staggering 62 percent of Zimbabweans say they’ve paid a bribe in the past year.

The $5 hospital screaming fee, purportedly a charge for “raising false alarm” but clearly aimed at separating mothers from their money, is no joke. Gross domestic product per capita is only $500 in Zimbabwe; average annual income per person is about $150. Zimbabwean hospitals also charge a $50 delivery fee. This means that, in a country where underemployment is 95 percent and poverty is rife, a mother who screams a few times during delivery might owe half her annual income after giving birth.

I am a good wife. I got up at 9am to deal with the electrician without waking up the husband so he can sleep in until noon or so like he normally does.

In other news, ugh, it’s 9am and I’m awake.

“Snowden has enough information to cause harm to the U.S. government in a single minute than any other person has ever had,” Greenwald said in an interview in Rio de Janeiro with the Argentinean daily La Nacion.

And one of them committed a crime against the United States. Hell, if Greenwald is acting like this, he might have too.

Anyone heard anything about this “north Colorado” stuff?

It contains all the colors of the rainbow, from white to white.*

They “represent” a group wants to form a state that will be on average 94.94 percent white. They specifically want to exclude urban areas like Denver County, which threatens their Great White Fever Dream with its 10.4 percent blackness. Not that their desire for a white state prevents them from explicitly comparing their plight to the Civil Rights Movement. Except if you scroll down, you’ll see that their new white state will require that “the streets run with blood like we’ve never seen before.” (That sounds ominous until you remember how low a benchmark that is for shut-ins like these.) So it’ll be just like the Civil Rights Movement, only with lots of guns and violence. I bet Jeff’s sitting at home right now thinking about rolling naked on the floor — I mean grappling - and choking the life from some dusky liberal relativist.

re: #335 Shvaughn

we had a similar movement here in Arizona, Baja Arizona to protest the tyranny that was taking place in Phoenix, where the tax dollars from the state kept staying in the Maricopa county area for schools and roads and the rest of the state could go hang. Namely they had a majority and didn’t care about the complaints. These folks in Colorado are feeling the same way about the “Liberal Denver” establishment in regards to passing laws they don’t agree with.
