Fox News Home Page Goes Wacky

A hack or a mistake?
Media • Views: 17,129

The Fox News home page had a rather, uh, interesting look for a brief time this morning at about 11:49 am Pacific:

A back-end screw-up or a hack attack?

UPDATE at 11/5/13 1:13:46 pm

Fox News tweeted that this was due to an “internal production problem.”

Looks like the interns took the day off and the on-screen personalities were left to write their own content.

He’s a coward. His own wife urged him to vote yes and the sissy was claiming that ENDA was like forced busing. I have more respect for those who actually voted No than McCain when it comes to this. If you believe this is bad legislation, fine, you’re a bigoted jackass in my eyes but at least you’re willing to put your money when your mouth is but when you’re John McCain, you’re desperate to play both sides. Is it any wonder that both the left and right pretty much see McCain as a sad hack?

I’m sure they do. It’s not a coincidence that both these guys thought our nation’s “downward spiral” began in 1860 when a certain guy from Illinois was elected. I liked it better when the right tried to claim Lincoln as one of their own more than I like this new right who likes Jefferson Davis more than they do old Abe.

One thing I’ve noticed from my brief time analyzing and interrogating conspiracy theorists over at the JREF forums is that conspiracy theorists, in general, have a failure to understand abstract thinking like analogies. Well, the 3/5ths rule was about slavery. It was intended as a compromise to give states that had large numbers of slaves much of the level of representation they were demanding while still cutting the level somewhat for the person being counted being slaves.

In fact, most of the political division giving power to the GOP in this day and age— the disproportionate power of less-populated-states— is based on the old political structures erected during the founding of our country to protect slavery.

Yeah. I did a depressing ground survey of ‘end the fed’, found it endorsed by many there, not able to be explained by almost any, and scarily one guy who could accurately explain what the fed does but still wanted to abolish it.

Close. The slave states wanted to count them as full for the purposes of determining congressional representatives. The free states wanted slaves to be uncounted as the congressional representatives would not be representing them.

It was smaller states like Rhode Island that feared simply being swamped by the more populous states that wanted fixed representation per state in the upper house.

It was mostly about the slave states. And there was some talk at the time, sadly that couldn’t become politically mainstream, that the whole notion of ‘states’ was going to become inevitably problematic over and over as the interests of states competed, but there was more faith in the rationality of man. Rhode Island was an interesting case being that it was a colony founded by someone actually escaping religious persecution by the Puritans, who were totally, totally into religious persecution and theocracy. Anyway, Rhode Island held out a slightly romantic idea of states as refuges from other states, basically, but that view fails to address the people inevitably trapped in the sucky state who can’t just get out of it and move somewhere cooler.

I walked into the school, walked up to sign in, voted and was out the door in less than 10 minutes. Not much happening in Columbus outside of a large School budget proposal that is going to face a tough road because it is asking for quite a large property tax hike, and I know in this economy that is a huge hurdle. Plus, the school system has had it PR problems and that is another hurdle.

re: #90 Dark_Falcon

A good place to start if you want an actual answer to this question is to think about why so many people think that rape is acceptable in the context of prison. It’s a punishment. The people who think that rape is acceptable want to punish women. Often, rape is the punishment for sexual rejection, or simply for being female. Rape is not about sexual satisfaction, it is about the rape, the interaction between the two people. People who defend rape mostly find it acceptable because they have a basically misogynist view, similar to the misogynist view of anti-choice advocates.

This is why the GOP is losing women at a rapid clip: these views cluster together.

re: #94 Absalom, Absalom, Obdicut

From what do you base that conclusion? I ask so that I may read that source and see what I think of it.

The really kooky fringe dudebro anarchist libertarians saw OWS rallies as ripe for recruitment. I saw Adam Kokesh and Alex Jones post about it at the time.

in berkeley/oakland the occupy rallies were easy targets for members of some socialist or communist group or other - maybe bob avakian’s group - that imagined that it could take over leadership of the movement without it being transparently obvious - the give away was the emphasis on ginning up a “general strike”

Hope everybody else’s day is going better then mine.

My brother apparently took offense at FB post I put up a couple of days ago about rape prevention. It was picture of a rape victim holding a sign describing what happened to her.

My brother attacked the post, implying that the woman was likely lying about the attack and claimed that rape is vastly over-reported and that many rape claims are false. He also claimed that actual rape victims should be “held accountable for putting themselves in that situation.”

This brought in one of my friends…a classmate of mine from Guilford College, who rebutted much of what he said. I finally terminated the discussion and deleted my post since emotions were running high. he called me at home and started the conversation with : “When did you become such a fucking pussy…”

I hung up and did not hear the rest.

He then posted several items on my time line, including a specific attack on my friend where he called her “a fucking idiot”. I deleted that post and told him in a PM to never post anything on my frontpage that attacked or insulted my friends, and that I was astonished he would ever have done something. I warned him that other family members as well as my friends and teachers from Guilford College had seen his posts, and questions were beginning to come in to me. I also told him that sexual assault is a serious and personal issue for many women and that he has no idea if the person he is talking to has actually been assaulted, no matter how fervent his belief that she is wrong on the merits of her argument.

His response:

I DONT FUCKING CARE IF OTHER (redacted) FAMILY MEMBERS SEE IT. THAT BITCH WAS WRONG AND A FUCKING IDIOT. I DONT CARE IF SHE WAS GANG RAPED BY THE FOOTBALL TEAM, THE FACT IS, IS THAT STATS ON ACTUAL RAPE IS NOT BAD AND SHE WAS WRONG

He went on publicly post that I am not to talk to him again.

I actually feel sick to my stomach right now. Sorry to unload on you guys…but even if I can patch this relationship up eventually, I can never, ever forget what he wrote, or that he he is willing to be so utterly hateful to a woman he has never met. I don’t know what to do. I don’t know if anything is to be done at all.

re: #4 Charles Johnson

Looks like somebody screwed up and pushed out a test page to the live site.

LOL, yeah, it looks like the kind of stuff web developers might do when bored. Sometimes I put weird stuff in my code comments just for shits & giggles when I come back and find it six months later.

When I have to make up names or email addresses for testing databases I use things like Hannibal Lecter, Bugs Bunny, etc. Ditto for graphic design stuff—letterheads almost always get filled in with lorem ipsum text, addressed to the Acme Roadrunner Trap Co., and signed by Wile E. Coyote.

I usually remember to change it before any clients see it, but on the rare occasions when forget, it makes for some funny (if slightly embarrassing) conversations. That, and forgetting to mute my speakers or close the secondary email client I use for personal stuff, which inevitably results in a email arriving and the client hearing George Carlin shout, “There’s a letter in your mailbox!” or Lieutenant Worf saying, “Captain, incoming message.”

Okay, I have a question for everyone: Do you use custom sounds for computer events? I used to have several, but now the only other one I use is wipeout for when I empty my recycle bin.

I’m out for a bit. I’ll BBL to talk about something else and get away from this. Thanks and hugs to all of you. I needed a moment to talk, and I deeply appreciate you letting me take a few minute to get this off my chest. My kid doesn’t need to hear about this and my spouse is still at work.

Thanks again, lizards. You really are the best.

It’s tougher when it’s family.

Missed out on the whole conversation here, but hugs from me, too. Sorry you, or anyone, has to deal with shit like that.

Missed it too, and agree with pretty much everyone above.

But want to add two cents that I didn’t see.

Assume for just a minute that he’s coming to confront you about this - angrily. With that in mind, plan what you need to do both to avoid it and if not avoided to get assistance in dealing with it.

Yeah, I hate raising it as I know it just caused your stomach to clench. But I’d rather make your stomach clench and it turn out unnecessary than not do it and see some ugly story in the news down the road.

Okay, I have a question for everyone: Do you use custom sounds for computer events? I used to have several, but now the only other one I use is wipeout for when I empty my recycle bin.

Never got into that. I usually have the local NPR classical station streaming and all “even” sound effects turned off. Being a unixen box I find it easier to keep tabs on things in other ways. “top” in a virtual terminal forex.

Oh yeah, I went there.

Bravo DF, Bravo. I have an idiot I butt heads with regularly in NPR comments whom I should remember that line to use on.

Wow! It’s hard to believe Elvis gained that much weight and lost control of himself in three plus years time.

From what do you base that conclusion? I ask so that I may read that source and see what I think of it.

No single source, but the collection of primary documents from that time period. The pre-existence of the ‘states’ is one of the unfortunate parts of US history.

Maskbro policy: faces, unlike information, don’t want to be free.

As I recall, anti-Scientology protesters started the Guy Fawkes mask thing to conceal their identities, because the CoS is a vindictive bunch that will try to ruin your life.
