Speaking of corrections. What I’ll say here doesn’t change the basic facts, but should be said anyway.
The VK account quoted yesterday doesn’t belong to Strelkov, rather to his supporters. They also post non-Strelkov messages. I.e. it’s not actually correct to say, that Strelkov boasted about or admitted anything. Of course, this doesn’t change the fact that the people were killed by Strelkov’s terrorists.

Almost makes one wonder if it was a training incident or “what if” gone wrong.* We’ll show you how to use the equipment by locking it onto this passing airliner, etc. etc. and to actually fire it you then press this button. “No you idiot! Don’t actually press it!”
* - Shades of the book “The Bedford Incident”. US destroyer is playing cat and mouse with a Russian submarine, and the commander tells an observer something along the lines of “if this was real I’d say ‘fire’ right now” and the wet-behind-the-ears ensign there in the CIC takes it as an actual fire order - so they blast a Russian sub with a ASROC. Steps are taken to prevent things from escalating from there.
Link for a movie based on the book. Ending is not the same though.

A Ukrainian cargo plane would probably not be flying at 33,000 feet for a domestic run, though. The airline was in the air lanes reserved for intercontinental commercial traffic. At that altitude, all you’d be able to see without binoculars would be its contrails.

A federal appeals court ruled Friday that Oklahoma must allow gay couples to wed, marking the second time it has found the U.S. Constitution protects same-sex marriage.
The decision from the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upholds a ruling that struck down Oklahoma’s gay marriage ban. But the Denver-based court immediately put its decision on hold pending an appeal, meaning same-sex couple won’t be allowed to marry in Oklahoma for now.

Right. Also, a turboprop cargo plane would not be at 33,000 feet. For a domestic run in a small country like Ukraine, I doubt any plane would be at 33,000.
It was either deliberately malicious to make a point, or it was a total fuck-up. The result was killing almost 300 innocent foreigners.

Another example to the world that Russia is still not open and ready to join in with the west in how things are done. Putin is going to come out of this looking even smaller than he is physically.
5 months after the Winter Olympics and any good feelings he gained are all being wiped away. Hopefully some how the Russian peoples take this as a sign it is time to get Putin out. If that can even be done, as I don’t know how things work politically in the New Russia.

re: #20 Feline Fearless Leader
OT - Peregrine falcon just landed on a building opposite the conference room I’m working in today. Was carrying a recently caught pigeon. Now sitting there with it.
And now the plucking has commenced.
One part of my job description is performing nesting bird surveys for the cellphone industry here in California. Peregrines have a top recorded speed of 242 MPH/389 KPH, and are the only bird known to kill bald eagles and golden eagles in mid-flight.
