Missouri Gov. Nixon on Michael Brown Video Release: ‘It’s Not Right’

“It’s just not right”
US News • Views: 25,771

MSNBC

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon went on Meet the Press today and seriously called out the Ferguson police department for releasing that surveillance video of Michael Brown, without consulting the Missouri Highway Patrol or his office and against the advice of the US Department of Justice.

Andrea Mitchell: Well governor, there was peace, uh, there was peace on Thursday night after you appointed the county police to come in and take over, uh, the state police rather to take over from the county. But then, the local police chief released that video. What justifies releasing the video about the convenience store, while there’s still no details about what happened with the shooting itself? That is what caused everything to erupt again on Friday night, and eventually led to the curfew having to be imposed?

Gov. Nixon: Yeah, we in our security team and the Highway Patrol did not know that was gonna be released, uh, I don’t think the Attorney General knew that. Uh, and quite frankly, we disagree deeply. I think for two reasons, number one, to attempt to in essence, uh, disparage the character of this victim, uh, in the middle of a process like this, is not right. It’s just not right. And secondarily, it did put the community and quite frankly the region and the nation, you know, on alert again. These are old wounds, and these are deep wounds between, uh, in these communities, and that action was not helpful.

Best of luck to you. I’ve always considered myself fortunate to have avoided back trouble.

Clusterfuck is an understatement concerning the local law enforcement handling of this entire event. A vast understatement.

As do I. From the 14 characteristics of fascism:

Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts

Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.

They really want the education system to go down the tubes.
The society benefits most when everyone gets an education rich in math, science and arts. An education rich in religion and reaching only a few would put the US on par with some 3rd world countries.

Missouri authorities tell ACLU that people can record police in Ferguson
Police instructed to allow protesters and journalists to videotape their activities. by Megan Geuss - Aug 17 2014, 3:30pm EST
Excerpt:

Politico was given a copy of the agreement by the ACLU. The news site reports, “The St. Louis county government, the city of Ferguson, and the superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol all acknowledged in a Friday agreement that both members of the media and the public at large are permitted to record events so long as they are not interfering with the duties of the police.”

The same three state authorities were named as defendants on Thursday in a District Court case that the ACLU brought on behalf of Argus Media Group reporter Mustafa Hussein. While Hussein was at a protest on Wednesday, police told the crowd that they were not permitted to record the police. According to the complaint, “over a speaker, police officials implementing Defendants’ policy ordered everyone on the street to stop recording. Upon hearing the order, Plaintiff was required to choose between surrendering his First Amendment right to record the action unfolding on the street before him or risking arrest or serious bodily injury inflicted by law enforcement officials if he continued recording and exercising his First Amendment rights.”

re: #69 Charles Johnson

I’m hearing-impaired and I HATE even thinking of that device used in an urban area. Yes, the operator wears hearing protection. The demonstrators around the vehicle—and the police—are not.

If that is used in my town, I’ll see it destroyed.
