David Duke Threatens to Release Names of Politicians With Whom He Has Ties

The Republican Party’s white supremacism problem

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise is doing some frantic damage control after it emerged on Sunday that he spoke at a white supremacist conference hosted by the infamous David Duke. The New Orleans Times-Picayune has an interview with Scalise: Steve Scalise: ‘I Detest Any Kind of Hate Group’.

Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise said he doesn’t support “any of the things I read about” a white supremacist group that organized an event at which Scalise appeared in 2002.

In an exclusive interview Monday with nola.com | The Times-Picayune about the growing controversy over his appearance at the Metairie event, Scalise said it is ridiculous to suggest he was involved with the group, which was created by former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke.

“I didn’t know who all of these groups were and I detest any kind of hate group. For anyone to suggest that I was involved with a group like that is insulting and ludicrous,” Scalise said.

Is Steve Scalise a racist? There’s no way for anyone to know what’s in his heart, but that’s really not the issue. The question is whether Steve Scalise lends the support of his office to white supremacists and neo-Nazis and the KKK, and it’s clear that he does. For whatever reason.

This also reveals how deeply the Republican Party is embedded with racists and white supremacist groups, and now David Duke is threatening to out the politicians he’s connected to, if the GOP sanctions Scalise: David Duke: Focus on Me and House GOP Leader Is ‘Insane’.

Overall, Duke was rather flabbergasted by the new focus on Scalise. He said he has hosted both Democratic and Republican legislators at everything from conferences to his children’s birthday parties. He said he has met with Democratic legislators at least 50 times in his political life.

And he delivered a warning to both Republicans and Democrats: Treat Scalise fairly, and don’t try to make political hay out of the situation. Or he said he would be inclined to release a list of names of all the politicians — both Republicans and Democrats — with whom he has ties.

“If Scalise is going to be crucified — if Republicans want to throw Steve Scalise to the woods, then a lot of them better be looking over their shoulders,” Duke said.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Duke has tons of GOP ties. He did frighteningly well in Louisiana. We already know about Tony Perkins using his mailing list. Plus the GOP loves them some Rush Limbaugh and Rush is cut form the same bigoted cloth as Duke.

Foster has already had trouble because of Duke’s mailing list. Vitter next?

They’re not racists.

They just want the mailing lists *of* racists.

‘…throw Steve Scalise to the woods…””
What in hell is the RWNJ’s problem with the language most commonly spoken in the land that they profess to love?

Name the names Duke. Go ahead. Name them. All of them. Let’s see who’s in your demented orbit. Espousing white supremacist views, seeking to deny minorities equal rights and protections, and pushing a political agenda that further disinfranchises minorities? Yeah, let’s see who else is down with that.

It is rather funny to see Duke more than willing to burn bridges with everyone who’s potentially come into contact with him, knowing full well that he is really that toxic.

8 HappyWarrior  Dec 30, 2014 10:40:38am

Really no way the GOP can come out looking good here. Maybe they shouldn’t be racist idiots but that would mean Rush would say mean things about them and we can’t have that can we?

I think Duke figures he’s got nothing to lose at this point. He knows he’s a toxic prick.

Oh, he might have a few Southern Democrats who are racists as well - because as VB often points out - the racism is more geographically based and party based. I wouldn’t be surprised that Democrats end up being named, but the majority? They’ll be GOPers - and probably more than a few big names in state and local politics at that.

Right, wouldn’t shock me either to see some Blue Dog types on there. Louisiana has some of the most right wing Democrats in the country.

Yeah, his early runs for office were as a Democrat. That stupidly makes the right wing hacks think ZOMG HE’S A LIBERAL but it was actually Duke figuring his best chance to win at that time was running as a Democrat.

Agreed. And it would not hurt the Democrats all that much at this point. Heck, it might even do some good.

So, let’s send some matches to Davie and tell him to go on ahead and light that fire. Let’s have a good old fashioned cross burning…this time no hoods so we can see the snakes.

By the way, I know Boehner’s family once owned a bar and he worked in it. I’m thinking he might be found either there or in another establishment thinking about this mess, and trying to figure out the liquid way out of this mess. Three for Grimm, four for Scalise and one for the road. Call that man a cab!

Seriously. It’s the dismantling of the VRA. Legislation by the way that was pretty much strongly agreed on by members of both parties except for segregationists. The GOP of today resembles George C Wallace’s party more than it does the party of Nixon.

Sharpton’s a sleaze….but from what I could see of Wright, his speeches were pretty typical of urban preachers damning the lack of social progress and failure to live up to ideals of American equality. He was never a separatist.

Yeah I remember Rush getting furious at Ken Mehlman when Mehlman was RNC head when Mehlman in one of his rare decent moments actually tried to admit that the Southern Strategy had been wrong. Boehner is someone who seems to enjoy being the puppet of a bunch of bigoted dicks.

And let’s be honest here “God damn America” is that really any worse than Pat Robertson actually saying we deserved 9-11 and that it was the fault of liberalism. What right wing preachers say about our country is far worse than anything Wright ever said. Wright never blamed gays and abortion for disasters.

From your link:

My mom started taking me to a therapist, but would only take me to christian therapists, (who were all very biased) so I never actually got the therapy I needed to cure me of my depression. I only got more christians telling me that I was selfish and wrong and that I should look to God for help.

My secularist, pediatrician niece actually defends these quacks on the grounds that they help comfort people. I have already sent her this link.

They are not comforters, except the false comfort that comes from transparent delusion. They are heartless frauds and purveyors and exploiters of ignorance and superstition. This is our business because they have their grimy snouts deep in the insurance trough, public and private alike. They belong in prison and that whole industry needs a major cleanout.

48 b_sharp  Dec 30, 2014 11:10:48am

I got asked if I know what racism is by a Chucky fan.
Hmm, I wonder if I do?

As a young boy in elementary school, my son, who looks aboriginal, came home more than once crying and either angry he didn’t have some trait of a white person or outright asking for us to dye his hair blond to make him white. He was in a daycare where the woman was abusing some of the children and we didn’t know it for months until she was closed down for it. The kids she abused were all aboriginal.

There have been many times when sitting in a restaurant we got dirty looks and stares from people, primarily men, who apparently didn’t approve of our interracial relationship. There have been many times when men have approached my wife and treated her as a prostitute. Once at a party some asshole tried to convince her to sleep with him even though he knew she was married and I was there in the same house.

She can’t just cross the street, she has to watch for people who try to run her over or at least make her believe they will run her over.

I was setting up a computer lab in an aboriginal school a few years ago and after all the aboriginals left the room, one of the carpenters working on the structure said “It’s a shame, all this money going to these people”.

Yah, I know what racism is, I’ve been up close and personal with it yet a step or two away.
