Again, Trump Suggests There May Be “Violence” at the GOP Convention

Weasel words setting up a riot
Politics • Views: 53,672

Not for the first time, Donald Trump is dog whistling to his crazed followers about rioting at the GOP convention if the establishment tries to deny him the nomination.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Sunday that he hopes a contested Republican convention in July “doesn’t involve violence” if he is denied the nomination during second-ballot voting.

I hope it doesn’t involve violence. I hope it doesn’t. I’m not suggesting that,” Trump told reporters on Sunday here in Staten Island. “I hope it doesn’t involve violence, and I don’t think it will. But I will say this, it’s a rigged system, it’s a crooked system. It’s 100 percent corrupt.”

He says he hopes it doesn’t involve violence — but notice how he avoids specifically telling his followers not to get violent. Done in the true Mafioso style. “We’d hate to see anything happen to your lovely convention.”

It’ll be curious to see how things work if shit goes south and Kasich ends up calling up the Ohio NG. I have no idea exactly how that wrinkle would play.

Yes, the right wing hack who worked alongside Frank Luntz in support of Newt Gingrich in the 90s and is now Israel’s ambassador to the US played a role in crafting Trump’s fawning pro-Netanyahu speech at AIPAC.

Anyone got another example of a supposed member of the diplomatic corps getting involved in writing the speeches of American political candidates?

Trump is dreaming about 1968. He wants it to happen inside the venue at ‘his’ convention, not out in the street. It can’t work that way with today’s security measures at the door. He can’t (and doesn’t want to risk) removing that security.

It’s weird how much people are still talking about this. Hell, I was born and raised Catholic, I’ve worked for the Catholic church, and I don’t give a shit if politicians do or do not meet the Pope. It’s a complete non-story.

Are the Berniebros subconsciously clinging to this fifteen-minute news item as a way to keep from thinking about NY polling, or is there something deeper/derper?

In the voice of Ryan Seacrest on American Idol, here we go:

Panama Papers include connections to Clintons

People that are ‘connected’ to the Clintons seem to have a relationship with Mossack Fonseca! AHA!

It looks to me like Sachs is flat out lying now. Yesterday he said the request and instructions on where they wait for Francis came from Sorondo.

If the request came from Francis’ personal secretary Sachs would have said so yesterday. He’s changing his story now so it looks less like they ambushed the Pope with Sorondo’s help.

In live coverage of ‘68 Dem convention (Chicago), the only convention floor violence I saw was Dan Rather getting gut-punched by a “security” guy while roaming the convention floor. That was long before anyone thought a 20x20 foot Free Press/First Ammendment Zone was a good idea.

Goodbye Third Way’s moniker alone says it all: if Hillary is allowed to steal the nom from Bernie, we might as well start forming a line to the ovens in September.

Also, “Third Way” always reminds me of Tony Blair, who famously co-opted the term, and ‘nuff said about that.

I wish I remembered seeing that. I was watching on my Gramma’s floor in front of the TV in Joliet, and all I remember is the outdoor action, as Gramma was watching for her 20 year old daughter (my aunt) who drove up there as soon as it looked interesting.

I have enormous problems with Israel’s government. Having said that, I do not think the entire country should be “cut loose” in any sense.

I have enormous problems with Iran’s government. Having said that, I still support the nuclear deal because I would like to see the west get behind the further development of civil society in that country.

See how that works? It’s almost like it’s possible to separate the vast majority of people in a country from bad government and policies.

You might want to try that sometime.

If Trump gets cheated (win) and there is a riot at the Republican Convention, I am calling that a “win” too because the Republicans deserve a riot.

Outside of the fact that it would be good to see Rush crumble and be gone from radio, I thought this little paragraph was fun too:

Concurrently, iHeartRadio’s parent company, iHeartMedia, is heading to court, teetering on bankruptcy. The once-dominant radio behemoth is saddled with $20 billion in debt, thanks to a misguided leveraged takeover engineered by Bain Capital in 2008, the same year the radio giant inked its disastrous Limbaugh deal.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A survey has found that tens of thousands of voters, including Demi Moore and other celebrities, have mistakenly registered as members of a conservative minor political party in California in a mix-up over its name, a newspaper reported Sunday.

The Los Angeles Times (bit.ly ) said that a telephone survey of 500 members of the American Independent Party found nearly 3 of 4 people did not realize they had enrolled in a political party that opposes abortion rights and same sex marriage and calls for building a fence along the U.S. border.

I fully admit to being fascinated with Limbaugh, and I even listen for about 15 minutes at a time about 3 days per week. That is about all I can handle, but it is typically enough to pick up on what the the current wingnut talking points might be.

As a self-proclaimed Limbaughologist, I want to restate something I posted last week:

I am pretty sure IHeartMedia (aka Clear Channel) will come up with some kind of face saving voodoo to hide the extent of the pay cut involved and keep him around.

The reason is this: It is next to impossible for anyone to generate a penny during middays on radio. Even if his show is only billing like 10% of what he did at the start of the previous deal in 2008, that is still many times more than they will be able to squeeze out of that daypart otherwise.

Yes, he is toxic to many advertisers…but the fact is that I do not hear any of the PSAs (covering up for unsold ad time) on WLS in Chicago during the show that I did just about every break from the Sandra Fluke incident in early 2012 through 2013.

67
De Kolta Chair  Apr 17, 2016 • 2:13:11pm

Anyway, if I may return to Mel Brooks’ schnitzengruben gag: I’ve always thought that what makes it work so well is that Bart is the one turning down the proffered sausage. Now, if the tables had been turned and fräulein Von Shtupp had been the offeree, the joke would’ve died the death. I”m talking Dane Cook dead. Dead as Mr. Praline’s parrot dead.

Speaking of Madeline Kahn, wasn’t she the greatest? I know people who worked with her on B’way and they always tear up whenever she comes up in conversation..

re: #66 bratwurst

I am pretty sure IHeartMedia (aka Clear Channel) will come up with some kind of face saving voodoo to hide the extent of the pay cut involved and keep him around.

The reason is this: It is next to impossible for anyone to generate a penny during middays on radio. Even if his show is only billing like 10% of what he did at the start of the previous deal in 2008, that is still many times more than they will be able to squeeze out of that daypart otherwise.

But why would Limbaugh consent to this pay cut? He’s gotten used to that sweet $38 million a year for the last eight years. Is he really going to be receptive to the claim, however well supported, that he’s only worth a small fraction of what he’s been getting paid? Wouldn’t he just start his own “The Blaze”-type operation, or simply retire?

Probably because emotionally, I amstrained to the limit. I am still struggling to find friends here in the Dallas Muslim community, and failing. The men here are trying to change me, and make me more normal. The youth director said he will try to fix this, but I don’t think he can. I am beginning to lose my mind to loneliness, and have had 2 breakdowns in 2 weeks.

This is beginning to leak online. I know I should stay away until it gets better, but I don’t think it will.

I am truly sorry for being so snappy and mean recently. My frustration is leaking out and causing problems. Until a solution is found, I will not post much.

Stop blaming everyone else.
Stop expecting people to fix your life and stop blaming them when they can’t because it’s a losing proposition from the get-go.
You are the only person who can “fix” your problems. You can get assistance with that, but you insist on having more.
You throw all of your anger on your friends and expect them to just not only accept that without question, but expect everyone else to applaud you for being just a mean and angry person.

You really need a better therapist or something.

You are now a broken record with all of your anger and what you think you are politely calling “venting” is anything but polite.

He is too close to hanging it up to change platforms at this stage. Glenn Beck and Howard Stern were both significantly younger men when they left traditional broadcasting. Beck is still on the radio, but his focus is 90% online now.

Rush loves money, but his chief mental illness is narcissism. Continuing to be the biggest fish in the (shrinking) radio pond is more important to him than what he is paid. I would be willing to wager that he is not ready for someone else to be crowned king of the idiots. He HATES all of the other right wing talking heads (especially O’Reilly) and I am sure part of his motivation in taking less money would be to keep it out of the hands of someone else.

The problem with Sanders and the supporters that think you can just not fundraise is that they ignore the way the system is set up. Until we get publicly funded campaigns, and no one is allowed to self fund, there will always be big money involved. But Citizens United made it even worse. The rules nearly completely favor those that raise lots of money. The only way to end the issues caused by CU is to win, which requires playing by CU’s rules.

It’s very much like being in a war where your opponents are in it to win. You can’t lay down your guns because they’re not going to lay down theirs. You have to fight and win in order to end it.

Then he will retire. As much as I honestly believe he does his thing as much for ego as for money, he is not going to take a 90% pay cut. We also learned from the recent Howard Stern SiriusXM re-signing that salaries in the industry that were once trumpeted are now being obfuscated.

However, I really do think it would cost more for his corporate masters to replace him and attempt to reinvent daytime radio than to overpay Rush for a few more years.

I don’t expect people to fix my problems.

It is hard to explain. I know I need to improve, and find better ways to deal with anger than simply venting like a volcano at the first thing to make me angry.

But I have history of people who thought were friends hurting me, so I need help to prevent that from happening again. But the Dallas mosque I am at, they are more interested in try to turn me into what they think is the correct type of man, including them telling me that the type of friends I have are not correct.

I want to not be lonely, but I am struggling to fix that. The Youth Director will not succeed in trying to fix this either. He has only been here a month more than me, and is having trouble with being accepted too.

I know I must take many things into my own hands, but I do need help finding people who will not hurt me. I am a terrible judge of character.

Something else Berners don’t seem to understand—targets and how campaigns use the voter database:

Talking about how fabulous the Bernie GOTV activity was going in NY based on doing canvassing data entry:

Yesterday, on a beautiful Saturday, many of the people on the lists were not at home, but of the ones that were, I’d say 75-80% of the ones I entered were strong Bernie supporters.

By two days before the election, the campaigns that are doing smart canvassing are reinforcing GOTV efforts to their committed voters. If they’re only getting 75-80% strong support, they’re either using the wrong lists or people are changing their minds away from Bernie.

(Wonder how those 15,000 volunteers who were going to make 2 million calls, each working an hour or two this weekend are coming along.//)

Five more years at his current rate would cost almost $200 million, plus signing bonus, for a company that’s two steps from bankruptcy and probable liquidation. That’s reductive and simplistic. There are negative effects resulting from our full-throated support of Canada, if you’re willing to dig deep enough.

Keeping them happy is part of why we have lukewarm governmental support of Keystone XL, just off the top of my head.

That doesn’t mean the net effect is anything but super duper positive, but let’s not pretend there are zero costs associated with any aspect of foreign policy.

It’s basic economics: They might lose money from renewing the contract, but they’ll lose more money trying to replace him. What do you do?

You renew the contract.

With Rush taking a pay cut.

Don’the forget that Howard was also granted equity shares into Sirius while they were still competing against XM, and it’s only been recently that they have recovered post-merger (which originally should not have happened in the first place….)

I could see Limbaugh wind up on SXM simply because his demo has discretionary cash - El Rushbo’s target demo.

Five more years at his current rate would cost almost $200 million, plus signing bonus, for a company that’s two steps from bankruptcy and probable liquidation. I can’t imagine any sane board of directors (or bankruptcy judge) allowing that kind of expense to mollify one ego, especially one that doesn’t belong to the CEO.

If it’s a Chapter 11, I think you mean the creditors committee.

I wonder what will happen next? Smaller networks? Some more progressive indy stations? I imagine that IHeart will sell off smaller stations to pay creditors, and who gets them will determine radio’s next direction.

AM radio is on its last legs due to a combination of technology and demographics. Except for the 50,000 watters, few stations have enough reach beyond the cities they are in. They haven’t really addressed either problem very well. But the same deficiencies make AM good for local concerns. The price may be low enough for some stations to go back to being pure community, pure amateur (or semi-pro). That may help some local talents develop skills and some more obscure groups to gain a local voice.

FM has better sound and reach and will survive a bit longer. However, I expect some more marginal ones will become repeaters or wholly owned by some groups.

I’ve often wondered too, if there might be some internet-convergence between internet and terrestrial radio at some point. YouTube buys a couple of stations and helps some of its musicians gain an offline following, perhaps. It certainly would broaden the musical menu available over the air in a lot of places.
Rush Limbaugh isn’t worried. He’ll do okay no matter what-he takes his act to satellite, buys a station of his own and streams, goes full internet and streams, does podcast only, or simply retires (he has enough to do it). The ones to feel sorry for are the lesser talents, the Mark Levins and others who require right-wing subsidies to survive and who don’t have much of a following to fall back on.
