Tech Note: Lots of New Embedded Image Options

A world of photos you can post at LGF

Quietly, behind the scenes, hidden from the eyes of an unsuspecting world, I’ve been writing code to allow our users to easily embed images in comments or LGF Pages from an assortment of image-hosting sites, such as Flickr, Instagram, Imgur and Giphy.

We’ve had Instagram embedding for a little while, but we now also support Flickr and Imgur with the same easy interface: just copy the address of the image’s web page, and paste it into a comment or LGF Page.

With Flickr, you can just right-click on the thumbnail of any photo on one of their index pages, copy the link, then paste it in. The same method works on Imgur.

Giphy is a little different. You need to left-click the thumbnail to go to the image’s page; on that page you’ll see a line of text labeled “Iframe Embed.” Copy that text and paste it into a comment or LGF Page. We automatically set Giphy images to not animate until you hover over them.

Here’s an example of a Flickr embedded photostream; their embedding code is very nice, and includes a slideshow of other images by a photographer or artist. Just hover over the image and you’ll see arrows to go back and forth through the slideshow.

At some point do we load up LGF with so much media that it becomes a resources issue, or is everything entirely stored back at the source site.?

I was wondering where Kindle stores all those copies of 50 Shades of Gray.

Good morning, all.

Repeating this message because I didn’t realize a new thread had been started.

This story was in my hometown newspaper this morning, and I thought you all would enjoy it. It’s about the connection between Harriet Tubman and 20 dollars, and how that sum figured into her life.

It’s the Serbian Orthodox Easter Sunday.
This looks like it could be very bad.

The church is from 1855.

1852-55 by Richard Upjohn, built originally as a chapel of ease to Trinity church, Wall Street. Called “Trinity Chapel”, its future was already under threat in 1915. However it was to be another 27 years before the church was sold to the Orthodox church, November 1942. It was reconsecrated in 1944. A bomb explosion in 1960s (which targetted the communist Party’s HQ on W26th St) destroyed the original stained glass in the apse which enabled the congregation to insert windows to Orthodox saints. A carved oak iconostasis was inserted in 1961, and icons painted up to 1968.

Trump tells Fort Wayne crowd there are 7-8 thousand people waiting outside when there are actually seven or eight.

4:55 PM - 1 May 2016

This is akin to a band playing in your city and they are sure to let everyone know the drummer is from Fort Wayne.

He was from Toledo last night and on Friday he was from Akron.

Trump studied politics from PT Barnum and New York street corner game players. He will never give that stuff up.

Looks like it’s being completely gutted by the fire. *sigh*
:-(

Still, as long as no lives were lost. The church can always be rebuilt, though I’d imagine they probably lost some irreplaceable icons & such.

And all that beautiful old oak and other woods they will never get back.

As I am doing a complete redo of old oak in a 100+ year old home, I am sad about that.

Thanks! Ever since I got the smoke box and attached it to my grill i have been consistently getting a good ring, bonus that I can maintain a near perfect 225 throughout the entire cook.

Actually, I realized Drudge is coming at it from the standard right wing “hate the librul media” angle. So I feel relieved.

Blitzer, Tapper, Lemon et al aren’t libruls. They’re shills for whatever makes their bosses money. Because a lot of network news anchors receive bonuses when they hit traffic goals.

I’m wondering if CNN is going to have a special “Hurt Fee-fees” block of programming tomorrow.

I usually avoid watching/listening to the Correspondents Dinner, because the idea of the supposedly independent press cozying up to the people they’re supposed to keeping honest makes me physically ill. The last one I watched was Colbert’s tour de force from (ugh) ten years ago.

That said, I’ll be listening to this on my phone at work tomorrow. It’s sounds like the only thing Wilmore and Obama missed was ripping Chuck Todd and Tweety new ones.

God, I hate Chris Matthews.

This is how you know how awesome Wilmore’s speech was - all the journalists screaming in outrage.

Hey, it’s all in fun! Have a sense of humor!

Spoiler: it wasn’t really all in fun. Wilmore twisted their balls, and it still aches a day later.

That’s what makes the press’ mewling and howling over the utter castration Wilmore gave them last night all that more delicious: Wilmore, like Stewart before him, is a comedian on a comedy news show and is NOT a “traditional” journalist like they are, but you know that, deep down, it chaps their asses when he does better news than they do.
