Feeling a connection with him right now when he said he was the first in his family to get a four-year college degree.
That was me, too. I was the first…and the only one in my generation. But I have a niece and nephew who did the same thing and now have a granddaughter who was just awarded a full-ride four-year scholarship (she’s going to be a nurse).

Me too. I was dirt poor and I was the first in my family to get the bachelor’s. Five years of Pell Grants and one B.S. in Computer Science later. I did it with a learning disability, too.
re: #36 Backwoods_Sleuth
In my family, getting even a high school diploma was an accomplishment (only 3 of us 6 kids managed that).
Getting my master’s degree and getting so close to a doctorate was just icing for me after getting the BA.
My mom was the first one on her side of the family to get a degree, in 1968. I was the fourth on her side, after my two older cousins. On my dad’s side, my one older cousin was the first, and I was the second. My dad didn’t finish, dropping out after the tenth, and instead going to army boot camp when he was 17; he graduated boot camp on his 18th birthday.
As I mentioned above, it took me two tries to get through college. Coming from a very low middle class family, with no family college experience, the college I went to was a shock. I didn’t really know how to handle the stress of college, even though I could handle the academics (I graduated 4th in my class out of 455). That’s one thing I really like about Simpson College, the school my oldest son is going to. They have set up a number of things to help kids get transitioned to college, and help them along the way.

re: #161 Big Beautiful Door
The thing is, she luxuriates in outrage, because that gets her the attention she needs to sell her books to rwnj. What I think would be great would be if the bitch was completely ignored. She’d hate that.
The media needs to stop having her on their shows. Unfortunately we can’t control that.

That’s it? That’s all he’s got? Pathetic, Mr. Hoft. Just pathetic.
Wow. They got God to do the narration for the Hillary bio! Love it!

Really Jim? That’s your first thought. And you’re an idiot because she’s pretty. Glad to see you guys haven’t learned anything form Rush acting like an asshole to her 24 years ago.
@benshapiro Katy Perry has class. You’re just crass.

They get Jon Voight.. we get Morgan Freeman - Fairly certain God beats Midnight Cowboy :P
No expense spared!
Morgan Freeman!
re: #136 Jenner7
I don’t think I can watch. I’m too nervous for her.
Don’t worry. She’ll give a good speech, and then if she reveals her imperfections and vulnerabilities-comes out of her protective shell as some pundits insist is essential, she’ll be considered weak and emotional. If she doesn’t, well, then she’s out of touch and too cold.
But I trust she’ll keep on plugging and win in Nov.
God, they have everything. Morgan Freeman dong the voiceover!
re: #19 Backwoods_Sleuth
Feeling a connection with him right now when he said he was the first in his family to get a four-year college degree.
That was me, too. I was the first…and the only one in my generation. But I have a niece and nephew who did the same thing and now have a granddaughter who was just awarded a full-ride four-year scholarship (she’s going to be a nurse).
I was the first too. Fourth son in a four boy family…and a very late arrival. And my father had just retired the same year I graduated high school. I worked mu butt off in college and doing freelance design work to help pay for all the materials I needed to go to art college which actually was as expensive as the tuition.
re: #163 Charles Johnson
You guys, I don’t really care if Chelsea’s speech isn’t great. It just feels good to see she survived and thrived in spite of all that crap.

In Hillary, I can see the same qualities that make my mom so great.
That picture just turned on the feels again.
That image is exactly the pose my mom has when she’s got that “I’m proud of my child” look on her face.
re: #167 thedopefishlives
Be kind—he was actually examining the state of his soul.
I want Morgan Freeman to do my life’s voiceover.
OK, God (Morgan Freeman) narrating the Hillary video is just perfect.

It was genuine, that’s the only thing that matters to me. It was a beautiful tribute from a daughter to her my mom.

I just don’t understand why the way a woman looks should have any fucking thing to do with what she’s saying. I see this so much, yes, from men in general, but far more from the right side of the aisle. As I’ve said before, it seems as if to them, an “ugly” woman is a failure at the only thing women are good for.
re: #167 thedopefishlives
In SMOTI’s eyes, she may be “so homely,” but the reality is that she’s beautiful, she’s smart, and has accomplished more in her life than he ever will, at least this is what I think of CC.
re: #163 Charles Johnson
How… unsurprising.
Hoft has nothing. No one. Just anger and bile.
Chelsea has been in the public eye from day 1. Since her dad ran for the WH, she’s been in the national spotlight and Rush attacked her if only as a way to get at her parents.
That’s what the GOP right wing asshats are on about. They attack people on their looks. They attack kids.
They attack.

Oh the irony from the people who thought it was divine favor for Bernie that a bird landed on him.
So basically Hillary has to sound strong but not threatening, accessible but not average, maternal but not weak. That’s all. #DNCinPHL

I want to see a blowout in November. I want this badly.
It looks like at 538 that Trump’s bounce is already starting to fade.

Yeah I don’t get it either. I just had say though that not only is he being sexist but he’s stupid too since she’s pretty.

I love how they act as if a Bernie candidacy wouldn’t have involved a lot of praise of him and his life’s accomplishments.
Just got off the phone with my dad. I asked him if he was going to watch Hillary tonight. “No.” “You watched Donald Trump with me last week, what’s changed?” “Donald was entertaining.” “Have a good night, dad.” *click*
