Video: Enormous Anti-Trump Protest March in Los Angeles

Politics • Views: 50,480

It’s amazing — and not in a good way — how little coverage this is getting on the mainstream cable news channels, but the protest march against Donald Trump yesterday in Los Angeles was gigantic. Early reports said “more than 8,000” protesters attended, but have a look at this video showing an enormous line of marchers stretching into the distance for miles on Wilshire Boulevard.

it’s impossible to make a real estimate from these images, but clearly it’s a lot more than 8,000 people.

Here’s another photo from a building in the vicinity of downtown LA.

I respect these people but I really wish we could have seen this sort of energy motivated to stop him from being elected in the first place. I guess I shouldn’t talk. I could have done more.

We will need to turn these protests, which I see as ‘inchoate fury’, into steadfast resolution, because we might have to stand with our friends and neighbors in the face of intolerable actions.

Fun fact: the last time the White House flipped from Blue to Red with a *popular vote* victory was 1980.

Since then, WH flipped Blue with *two* popular vote Dem victories (1992, 2008) and flipped Red only with popular vote losses by the Republicans (2000, 2016). Despite this, by the end of Trump’s first term, in 2020, the WH will have been occupied in that time by a Republican 24 years to the Dems’ 16.

That’s one of my wingnut friends attitudes, that motorists should be able to remove protesters if they like. I have to say as much as the TP assholes annoyed me, never ever did I feel that way. I felt they had a right to protest even if I thought they were childish and dishonest dicks about it.

I’ve heard that too and that’s my point: I don’t understand the thinking/mechanism involved. How can EC save from any tyranny if the electors are directly elected anyway? Are they supposed to say “oh wait, that’s a bad guy” at some moment? Why would they do that if they support him?

Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputy is shot and killed, and a suspect is in custody

“We know for a fact that the gun used in this crime was in direct contact with his head when the trigger was pulled — twice,” Christianson said, according to video posted by news station KCR3. “This was an execution.”

What they mean is that they think it’s tyranny if they don’t get what they want because most people don’t agree with them.

What ‘Tyranny of the Majority’ REALLY means is that, for example, a majority Christian town could choose to outlaw a minority religion. The Constitution and Bill of Rights is what prevents that.

The history of the EC is irrelevant. The future of the electoral college is what is important and it ain’t going anywhere. So people should probably learn how to live with that and figure out how to make it work for them.

re: #88 Blind Frog Belly White

I had someone tell me that direct popular election of the President would make us no longer a republic. I gotta say, there’s a lot of really, really stupid people out there.

I also gotta say that I’m getting really tired of hearing the history of the EC as some kind of defense, or even what the founders wanted. They’re dead. Fuck ‘em. They wanted an 18th Century agrarian republic for the benefit of white male landowners, With Liberty And Justice For All Them.

The founding fathers were (mostly) a wealthy, aristocratic elite. We’ll be realizing that dynamic again soon, but without the fancy manners.

Until Justice Ted Cruz gets on the SC.

re: #93 Nyet

Exactly. Not the EC…

The basic reason they love the EC is because it gives them the results they want, so they cloak it in Founding Father Wisdom.

Reverse the result, and it will become anathema in their eyes. We know this from 2000, when they thought Gore might win the EC while losing the popular vote. They were preparing to challenge/delegitimize. Then Gore lost the EC and won the popular vote, and as sure as the night follows the day, they all suddenly rediscovered the Wisdom of the Founding Fathers.

Media Outlets Pledge Evenhanded Criticism Of Trump, Clinton Over Next 4 Years

NEW YORK—Declaring that they would work tirelessly to hold both figures to account, the nation’s media outlets pledged Thursday that they would not relent in providing evenhanded criticism of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton over the next four years. “We want to assure the American people that throughout the forthcoming presidential term, we will, with equal rigor, hold both Trump’s and Clinton’s feet to the fire on the issues that matter most,” said CNN president Jeff Zucker, who echoed official statements made by every other cable, print, and online news source across the country by affirming that it was the responsibility of the press to ensure both individuals were made to answer for their misdeeds during the next administration. “While we vow to carefully monitor the decisions and actions of the nation’s next president and expose his and his cabinet’s failings wherever they appear, we also make a solemn promise to provide a balanced critique by refusing to ever let Clinton off the hook.

re: #185 Blind Frog Belly White

Wow. Just went through another “This didn’t really happen” moment. Anyone else still having those?

Yes, I’ll be doing that the next four years because he’s really going to be in our descendants’ history books.

Cute video on “M.A.M.O.N. - Latinos vs. Trump.”

M.A.M.O.N. - Latinos VS. Donald Trump

Dammit, I wish someone would resurrect El Santo.

Betting we all will be having those until Jan 20, if not beyond (assuming Pres.Elect McRoadkillHair doesn’t quit/isn’t forced to resign somehow)…

For me its more moments of “damnit damnit damnit! What were they thinking!” than that at this stage…

If a person stands with a “let’s gas the rest of the Jews” sign, can we assume they’re not a liberal, or is it a NTS?

Depends on your definition of liberal. When I worked in construction the guys I worked with were dyed in the wool, union loving democrats. For a lot of people that makes them liberals, but I have never met a more racist, misogynistic, anti-Semitic crew of guys.

Every time I wake up, which is about 10 times a night, assuming I go to bed at all.

Yes. It is stupid and reprehensible, whoever did it. Now, back to Donald Trump’s plan to block all Muslims from entering the U.S.

Get used to the idea that a lot of people are going to be destroyed because of election day. They’re going to be disproportionately Muslim, and AA, and gay, and Latino.

At first.

While the word is legitimately used in a different sense elsewhere (right-wing liberals in diff. countries, “classical liberals”, etc.), in context of LGF it means something specific. That’s what I was dancing from ;)

You’re only going to be in a better position to get cold revenge because everyone in the world is protesting now. Stop letting them distract you with the sign, that sucks but it’s not a valid issue to focus on here. Its one guy with a sign in a crowd of a thousand people that don’t have them.

There is no mechanism that will stop it in less than 4-8 years. And I’m being optimistic about the control of the courts. (2018 won’t do it unless he raises the pain level to “Unbearable”.)

No really, we’re near the beginning of what’s going to be a long sequence of major protests here and around the globe. One person on one day of that in the middle of all this tumult is background noise.

What article of the Constitution invalidates an electoral college win because of a demonstration in Genoa? All that is left is a strengthening of the only institution that can ever face them down—in 2020. Mewling in the streets with undisciplined crap sets that day back.

We don’t have that long to wait, and that wouldn’t be very good advice even if we did. There’s no evidentiary basis for your claim that these protests, much less one guy with a sign at those protests, would have even a negligible impact on a theoretical election 2-4 years from now. And it’s going to happen whether you like it or not I’m afraid.

There’s more of us than there is of them, and we are the super-majority in most cities and state/national capitol, so there’s a lot of options for us to play Constitutional hardball here that don’t involve waiting for them to treat us fairly in an election.
