Can you imagine the security nightmare the Mar-a-Lago must be for the SS?
Members, plus guests- at night- staying overnight, in hotel rooms, eating on the veranda with Prexy.
Do members have to be vetted? How about their guests? Metal detectors at the front desk? At the front doors? Where do you set up your perimeter? How about vehicles entering the ground?
How many personnel would that take?
Meanwhile, you’ve got Trump Tower, three adult sibs with wives and kids who could be anywhere in the world, Tiffany and whoever she’s hanging with, plus The White House, any foreign dignitaries visiting the US, anti-counterfeiting efforts, general security needs, and transportation needs for all of the above.
Oh, and they are transitioning to a new SS Chief.

Far as Milo Douchebagginus, I only have three things I can offer:
1) Larry Willmore can make a ‘go fuck yourself’ sound like a scholarly counterpoint in tone somehow.
2) It’s telling the people he called ‘stupid’ and ‘illiterate’ were all black
3) He strikes me as an evil universe Eddie Izzard. Izzard is a man who embraced his transvestite tendencies and found empathy with other sexualities, used his celebrity to help people, and if anything tried to foster understanding in a humorous way. Milo comes of as fantastically self hating in a way that extends to everyone who isn’t ‘normal’ or normative, uses his celebrity to demean and marginalize people, and treats people as his stark inferior on an extremely white supremacist basis.

re: #60 Charles Johnson
The point of overlap between Bill and Milo is neither pauses to consider whether they might not be thinking stuff through. Whatever reasoning they’ve arrived at is correct, even if it can be taken apart by facts or arguments.
Also, both think that there’s some kind of validity in “shocking” statements in and of themselves, and become pissy when others don’t treat their spectacle as meaningful-unto-itself.
re: #64 EPR-radar
That’s the Republican party, not the nation.
Problem is, far as where the power is, those two are effectively synonymous. The GOP essentially have all the power they want, and with the support of around 90% of their base ensuring that they won’t change, we’re essentially held hostage by the population that subsists in the very way I said.

My first day teaching, a senior girl came into my office after school was out, and propositioned me. I know I didn’t handle it correctly, but I just let her know that I went differently, but I hoped we could continue talking. I hope she found her way.

Bret Stephens delivered the Daniel Pearl Memorial Lecture this week at the University of California, Los Angeles. Read the full text of his remarks below:
I’m profoundly honored to have this opportunity to celebrate the legacy of Danny Pearl, my colleague at The Wall Street Journal.
My topic this evening is intellectual integrity in the age of Donald Trump. I suspect this is a theme that would have resonated with Danny.
When you work at The Wall Street Journal, the coins of the realm are truth and trust — the latter flowing exclusively from the former. When you read a story in the Journal, you do so with the assurance that immense reportorial and editorial effort has been expended to ensure that what you read is factual.
Not probably factual. Not partially factual. Not alternatively factual. I mean fundamentally, comprehensively and exclusively factual. And therefore trustworthy.
This is how we operate. This is how Danny operated. This is how he died, losing his life in an effort to nail down a story.
In the 15 years since Danny’s death, the list of murdered journalists has grown long.
Paul Klebnikov and Anna Politkovskaya in Russia.
Zahra Kazemi and Sattar Behesti in Iran.
Jim Foley and Steve Sotloff in Syria.
Five journalists in Turkey. Twenty-six in Mexico. More than 100 in Iraq.
When we honor Danny, we honor them, too.
We do more than that.
re: #75 Myron Falwell

One thing that kind of comforts me is that these people don’t really seem to like each other very much.
Ok so I lied. I have one more thing I have to say about Milo, related to what I’ve been on about on Twitter:
I’m fucking sick of being told we need to reach out, show understanding, show empathy, talk more with the other side, etc. etc. etc. If Milo’s rise shows anything, it shows how bunk that idea is, because Milo is one of the most exclusionary voices out there, and people fall down at his fucking feet over his brilliance while chiding us for not ‘reaching out’, while he can basically verbally punch people in the face, shit on their shoes, and call people the most genetically stupid thing in existence without consequences

I don’t want Trump’s presidency ending with a bullet or an explosion. That will make him a martyr. I want his presidency to end with 75-80 Senators voting to remove him from office for high crimes and misdemeanors. That’s the only acceptable outcome, as far as I’m concerned. Even resignation gives him cover, like Nixon, to claim it was a grand left wing conspiracy.

Has anyone ever seen his black boyfriend? From what little I know of him this could very easily be a “oh, you wouldn’t know him, he doesn’t go to this school” sort of thing (much like Rage Furby’s hot Asian wife prior to photos)

Totally agree, and I’ve been arguing this exact same point for quite a while now. The naïve idea that giving these disgusting people free rein will result in them being “debunked” or “shut down” by the awesome power of absolute free speech is a destructive, asinine concept that needs to die. It simply DOES NOT work that way any more, if it ever did.
Indulging people like Milo and Richard Spencer and Chuck Johnson and letting them spew garbage all over the Internet has brought us to the place we’re at right now, and that place sucks.

That’s… not wrong. Uttered by anyone else, much of the liberal-oriented media would be heralding what was said here as obviously correct and commonsensical, almost not needing any justification. But Trump utters it, and we’re supposed to believe that it’s all part of some grand Kremlin-directed conspiracy to undermine the very foundation of American democracy. Or something.

Is that going to be the new thing for Republicans? Telling people Trump’s power “is not to be questioned”? They’re just going to parrot the neo-Nazis pulling the Giant Orange Incest Yam’s strings?
I’m a forward looking guy. We have to deal with Trump, so I’m really tired of relitigating the Democratic Primary (no matter how much Democrats screwed up letting Sanders in, and how much Sanders screwed up by not ending his run sooner). But, I think, for the press to move forward, they really do need to come clean on how they messed up coverage of the election: Spending too much time covering every breath Clinton took as a scandal, and treating Trump as a joke not to be taken seriously. I think they need to come to terms with what they did, and then let the public see what they did.

Fun fact: the President has no authority to demand the resignation of the Vice President. They are technically independently elected to their positions and as a result, the VP does not serve at the pleasure of the president. I’m willing to bet dollars to donuts, this becomes an issue in the Trump administration
True this: outside of sitting on the dais of the Senate twiddling his thumbs presiding over the Senate, the VP has no official duties or responsibilities of any kind. Outside, of course, whatever the President can delegate for him/her to do, or some pet hobby project. Veeps shut out and kept on the outside of power have been the norm in our political history (except relatively recently) - I think the Trump/Pence relationship is going to be a reversion to the norm, i.e. Mike is going end up with well-developed thumbs….

All I can say to who every wrote that: Fuck no. Russia, with Putin as its leader, is in no way a country we want to be “friends” with. They don’t give a shit about us. There is nothing we would get out of it except a regrowth of Russia, a country Putin would like to restore to its former superpower status, which involved threatening the world and bullying its neighbors.

Also, if y’all need a palate-cleanser from Milo and Maher’s transphobia hatefest, go find “Dreadnought” by April Daniels. It’s a superhero novel about a trans teenager who becomes the accidental recipient of the powers of the World’s Greatest Superhero. The powers come with an instant upgrade into her ideal body, which means an instant transition, but It’s far from smooth sailing for her — she loses her best friend, her emotionally abusive parents get much worse, and even has to deal with a TERF superhero. But it’s an excellent story, with fantastic characters, and it was a joy to read.

Despite Trump claiming Chicago is so dangerous, turns out #EmolumentsViolation Golf Resort is situated in a location with crime rates that are same.
That’s right. Mar a Lago’s West Palm Beach has higher murder and overall crime rate than Chicago.
The city of West Palm Beach, which sits just across the Intracoastal Waterway from Trump’s palatial Mar-a-Lago Resort — aka the Winter White House — on exclusive Palm Beach, had a violent crime rate in 2015 that was equal to that of the Windy City, according to federal crime records.
There were 23 homicides in a city of just 104,919 residents. And the rate of violent crime, which also includes rapes, robberies and aggravated assaults, was 9 for every 1,000 residents — the same as the far bigger Chicago, records show.
While Trump regularly rails about crime in the city that is the hometown of his predecessor Barack Obama and birthplace of Hillary Clinton, he’s not said a peep about the past troubles in the city that he drives through every time he comes to Florida.
That has not gone unnoticed by community activists like Ricky Aiken, who has been working hard with West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio and the local police to keep local crime in check.
“Trump is a guy who lives over there,” Aiken told NBC News, referring to Palm Beach. “If he is serious about making changes in the inner cities, he would be welcome. But people like him tend to avoid communities like mine.”
