New From Olbermann: How Did Trump Remember 9/11?
Looking back, and looking forward.
Looking back, and looking forward.
In the mirror of himself of course. Like everything in his life, all about him.
He remembered that he saw all those A-rabs dancing on the rooftops.
This tweet that triggered so many right wing attacks today also got a whole lot of likes.
The 9/11 attacks were a horrific event in US history, but the election of Donald Trump will be seen as equally disastrous, if not more so.

Well, he did Tweet… a bunch of pictures of himself.
Could you imagine the right wing seizures and convulsions if Obama did something like this? Remember they used to count the number of times he said “I” and “me”

Create problem; sell solution.
Charles, old friend, if far left AND far right Twitter aren’t both mad at you then you are doing it wrong.

Bwahaha - I was thinking the same thing when I saw Melania’s outfit; glad someone else noticed :D
And from the comments:
“Scary! One picture illustrates a fascist regime hellbent on world domination, the other is from a brilliant sci-fi series, entitled ‘V’.”

As if we needed further proof that conservatives are reactive, can only deal with bad shit after it’s happened rather than taking steps to prevent it from happening or reduce how badly it will happen.
I absolutely stand by this. Trump has already destroyed much of what’s good about America, and it’s getting worse every day.

I’m not going to tweet this but I have to admit, it’s pretty disturbing to be the target of this kind of monumental hate pile-on. It’s been going on non-stop all day long and some of these tweets are really insane.

The 9/11 hit was a tragedy for several thousands of Americans, yet it never rose to the level of a real threat to our existence, our democracy, or our continued position in the world.
Only the stupid things we did in reaction to it created that.

Not a documentary and quite violent, but consider Narcos, which is all about the Columbian cocaine trade and the CIA. The first two seasons are drawn from a book called Killing Pablo, and is about the eponymous Escobar.

I shudder at the thought of another terrorist attack of that caliber striking America under Trump’s watch.
Bush was pretty restrained when he could have put ALL Muslims and Arabs in internment camps right away.

IMO, Bush did well, right up until he decided to go to war with Iraq.

I never played Destiny either and it doesn’t seem to have hampered my enjoyment of the sequel. The mechanics are very easy to pick up and the plot is pretty self contained. I did end up looking up a few things on the Destiny wikia site, like what the Traveler is and background on the various enemy factions, but it honestly hasn’t added a massive amount of understanding.
Longish post here so buckle up:
With the 9/11 anniversary approaching I’ve spent the last few weeks researching Mohammed Atta, the ringleader of the hijackers and the pilot of United Airlines 11, the first plane to strike the first WTC tower at 8:46 am.
In particular, I’ve been curious about what drove this man to join Al-Qaeda and commit to carrying such a heinous act of terrorism against the United States.
Of course the general charge against most Muslim extremists is that they hate the U.S. because Israel, but that’s a very, very simplistic way of viewing things.
Atta was born to a relatively well off Egyptian family. Both his parents are college educated and successful professionals (his surviving siblings are very successful as well). According to several sources Atta’s father basically kept the boy at home most of his youth and prohibited him from socializing with anyone other than his family outside of school hours. No friends, clubs or sports. As a result, the young Atta, while excelling in academics, had a non existent social life. He was isolated and somewhat despondent, traits he carried well into adulthood.
His career plans didn’t exactly take off either. He did Architectural design for awhile but after AutoCAD became more of a thing, there was no need for his services anymore. He then worked a series of menial jobs including selling cars and packing computers, both while living in Hamburg. He wanted to go back home to Cairo and work there, but his family did not have the right connections for him to find a good job.
Those who knew him in Hamburg say he was intensely introverted and very private. He had few close friends and no romantic relationships. The only place he spent much time at besides home or work was the Al-Quds Mosque.
The extreme fundamentalist religion at the Mosque is what I believe was most crucial in stoking the fires of a man who was already angry and frustrated at a world he felt did not have much of a place for him and a family who was not supportive. Most radical fundamentalist theology (whether Muslim or otherwise) is heavily focused on blaming someone else for a persons failures rather than encouraging him or her to accept responsibility for their own failures and work to better themselves.
Thus, the U.S. and Israel became convenient targets for Atta to take his frustration out on. America, however, wasn’t his first target. Not long after establishing contact with Al-Qaeda, Atta and some of the other men who were on those planes 16 years ago decided they wanted to go to Chechnya and join the Muslims who were already fighting against Russians, only to be talked out of it by Al-Qaeda leaders.
Now of course had Atta not become involved in the 9/11 plot another hijacker would have taken his place, but if that had happened would the attacks still have been carried out as successfully as they were? All signs are that Atta had a significant role in organizing and preparing the hijackers for what was to come throughout 2001 and traveled extensively to make sure the attacks could go smoothly.
None of this is meant to absolve Atta of repsonsibility. The man committed a heinous deed and was an undeniable enemy of the state.
I find it striking though that the distance between a healthy and rational human being and a radicalized terrorist madman can be so small. There might have been one act, one conversation, one letter, one show of affection that would have kept Atta from being on the plane that fateful morning.
Of course we’ll never know for sure and that will be just one of many enduring mysteries surrounding 9/11/01.
