It’s only ‘controversial’ because the Republican party and the Conservative cult in general is not quite ready to openly come out as a white supremacist party. They are, but American media is still playing coy and pretending they are not. Slowly the American media is normalising it though, and when it has enough general acceptance CNN will be more overt about it.
Just like many Trump supporters. He can do no wrong in their eyes because he’s a white supremacist reaction to Obama.

I don’t know if this got mentioned while I was away on jury duty, but it’s about Russian meddlers putting up falsehoods about a Trump rally here in Phoenix:
Remember that photo supposedly showing a massive crowd for Trump’s rally in downtown Phoenix?
As it turns out, the account was run by a Russian organization with ties to the Kremlin that’s known for spreading fake news and propaganda.
*snip*
As first reported in an investigation by Russian newspaper RBC and then confirmed by BuzzFeed, the Twitter account behind the viral shot of not-Phoenix was run by the Internet Research Agency, an organization in Russia that traffics in a new breed of “information warfare.”
*snip*
The photo that purported to show people filling the street for Trump’s August 22 rally at the Phoenix Convention Center was actually taken at the Cleveland Cavaliers’ victory parade in 2016.
*snip*
The account, @TEN_GOP, used an avatar of the seal of the state of Tennessee and claimed to be an “unofficial” account of Tennessee Republicans.
This was five days before Trump pardoned Arpaio and just two months ago. We are still being rtfckd by the Russians.

I’m encouraged that there’s a lot of cultural change that I think will be hard to roll back. There are a lot of great comics with minority and women characters, for example, and I can’t see Marvel and DC putting some Nick Spencer type in charge so he can have Captain America kill black people and deport Ms. Marvel. I can’t see sci-fi publishers like Tor putting out books by Vox Day. I can’t imagine it’d be possible to say, “Okay, we’re going to have culture look exactly like it did in 1953.”
On the other hand, I do still think it’s too late to save the country, and we need to be either fleeing or helping vulnerable people escape. So I don’t know what the hell I think, I guess.
re: #80 scottslemmons
Throughout human history, we have done unbelievably awful things to each other. We have gone through events that defy belief in terms of human suffering. Human nature is not especially different now than it was during those times. Yet, despite all odds, the trend of human history is towards more enlightenment, not less. Despite the weaknesses of human nature, as a whole, humanity has moved forward. This trend will continue. Of course, in the short term, there will likely be a lot more suffering - the way forward is not always straight.

It’ll take a LOT of money to regenerate a nuclear alert capability again. When I was at K. I. Sawyer AFB, we had six alert lines of two planes, a paired bomber and a tanker. So, 60 pilots, naviguessers, bombardiers, gunners, and ECM crews. We were all housed in the Alert Shack. It hasn’t been used in 26 years and will have to repaired and upgraded. Not living with us, but a daily presence, were cooks, security crews, daily briefers, weapons handlers, drivers, comm teams and Ops and Field Maintenance crew.
We would have to pull all of the mothballed B-52 H’s out of Davis-Monthan and get them back to Emergency War Order status, including remounting the 20 mm Gatling gun in the tail, returning and upgrading the ECM suite, training new Gunners and ECM operators, upgrade comms and nav suites, etc.
It’ll take months and a shitpot of money.
The reason that the Buffs were taken off of alert status in the first place was that we figured we could get by on the other two legs of the triad and use the B-2s as the nuclear bomber force, and use the Buff as a conventional platform, along with the B-1B.

And we could call it South Carolina.
What, is Texas suddenly out of commission? They’ve already got all the amenities in place. Let the South Carolinians move to freakin Lubbock.
Well, it got up to 95 here in Los Angeles. We’re going into the 100’s tomorrow and Tuesday. Now just imagine being in Dodger Stadium for Game 1 and it’s 100 degrees!
But remember folks!!!!! Scott Pruitt assures you that there is no such thing as Global Warming!

How scary is this thought:
Trump wants to drop nukes because it would set him apart from other Presidents.
Couldn’t he just go out and masturbate on the front lawn? That would set him apart without all the damage and death.

Truman already beat him to that

Yeah but Trump probably thinks he can do a better job than Truman did.

The reason that the Buffs were taken off of alert status in the first place was that we figured we could get by on the other two legs of the triad and use the B-2s as the nuclear bomber force, and use the Buff as a conventional platform, along with the B-1B.
That would be the Triad that the yam had no idea when asked about it during the campaign, instead he went off on one of his patented unrelated tangents.

Well, the difference will be Truman used nukes to end a war.
Trump will use them to start one.

As Anymouse suggested, we would need an emergency airlift for the local liberals. I volunteer to borrow a Cessna 208 and do it in one flight, dogs and all. Most of Texas Tech can be left there, especially the various Austrian-school business programs, while the hopelessly liberal residue is moved to Snyder in a couple of U-Haul trucks.

That octopus couldn’t be that smart, they got it in the jar. Cats, on the other hand…
