Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo called this earlier today:

The tenor of this moment does feel different. I think it is different. Over time I think it may have a big, perhaps a very big impact. But near term, I think the most likely outcome is that President Trump will come out, make a weak and pro-forma ‘yes they meddled’ type statement and Republican leaders will pronounce him fit for service and ready to go.

One thing that Trump was really smart about—yeah, I know—was to say from Sept. 2016 on in every single rally “if Hillary wins it will be because it was rigged.” That “blame the other side for what you are doing” probably had a bigger effect on Obama’s willingness to unilaterally—without Mitch—make a strong open statement about Russian activities than most people remember. The sense of chaos that it would unleash was palpable. In hindsight, of course, he should have made a strong statement. But with the lingering doubts about Comey’s handling of the emails as another part of the context, it was a difficult decision to make.

And his actual quote:

With that being said, all I can do is ask the question. My people came to me, Dan Coats came to me and some others, they said they think it’s Russia. I have President Putin; he just said it’s not Russia.

I will say this: I don’t see any reason why it would be. But I really do want to see the server.

A. Dan Coats and the others didn’t say they THINK it’s Russia. They said it was goddamn Russia.

B. He then bothsides it with “Putin say nuh uh.”

C. So him saying his following comment should have said “wouldn’t” instead of “would” makes no sense at all, particularly followed later on by:

So I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today.

He. Is. Full. Of. Shit.

I really, REALLY wish I could say that I’m surprised by that. But after my wingnut cousin told me ‘I live among these people’ and when I looked up the demographics of his town I discovered that in a town of 3000 people there are fewer than 10 blacks and fewer than 30 hispanics, I realized that a lot of America sees people who aren’t there.

As a bonus, last week I was watching “Twelve Angry Men” and heard The Bigot (played by Ed Begley Sr.) say, “I live among these people! They’re not like you and me!” so now I know where he got it.

The only thing Trump has going for him are conservatives who are more interested in how Democrats respond to his treasonous misconduct than opining on Trump’s misconduct - and that misinforms the rest of the right wing and Fox viewers (overlapping in Venn diagram 1:1).

Trump lies, conservatives fixate on Democrats calling out Trump’s lies instead of fact that Trump just serviced Putin on his knees.

Trump can’t reconcile his lies then with his new lie today.

Because it wasn’t just one sentence. It was the whole goddamned speech. It was his appearance. It was his appearances thereafter. It was his admin supporting his nonsense with more blustering BS.

It was his retweeting Rand Paul supporting him because of what Trump said yesterday - not what he’s saying today.

The GOP will, of course, accept Trump’s insincere statement today, memory hole yesterday’s treasonous misconduct, and proceed as if nothing happened as the “mavericky types” rubber stamp Trump picks.

Our farmers are not really producing food anymore, they are supplying raw materials for industrial processes.

That has always applied to cotton, but it applies now more than ever to corn, wheat and soybeans, they are processed to death before they are turned into food-like substances.

Michael Pollan writes a lot on food and points out that the lowest possible profit margin is for whole food that we cook and prepare ourselves, whereas the highest margins are for foods made of highly processed mass products and cheap bulk chemicals that we just need to add water to and warm up…

add to that the way that we have a food industry that is little concerned with our health and a health care industry that is more interested in prescriptions than nutrition…

I’m sure I’m not the only one who has seen right wingers retorts to the ongoing treasonous acts by Trump proclaim he’s not doing anything wrong - see Wall Street soar and the economy booming.

They do not have any rational relationship to each other.

The strong economy is the only thing in Trump’s favor. If the economy went in the shitter, the GOP would see it in their interest to dump Trump because he’s going to take them down, and he would be more easily jettisoned in a shitty economy.

And yet, the GOP wont touch Trump because their know nothing base treats everything he says as an article of faith.

It’ll be up to Fox to twist itself into a pretzel explaining away Trump’s latest idiocies, but they’ll do their worst (as always). Hannity will ignore what was said yesterday and focus on the WH talking points that Trump is strongly cracking down on Russia and list steps Trump took that no one else ever took (narrator: they did).

Just you watch.

They keep repeating the same pattern - because it works. Their base doesn’t know any better.

Trump knows dang well that it was Russia that interfered with the 2016 presidential election. He’s lying when he claims otherwise. His own son met with Russian operatives to get dirt on his Democratic opponent. He specifically asked Russia to hack his Democratic opponent. He and his party used the hacked material against his Democratic opponent.

As long as 75% of white men and around 55% of white women in the USA admire Trump for his active championing of white supremacism, and Russia under Putin is seen as a safe haven and ally with that ideology. Trump will never have to worry about truth, facts, evidence, history, or any sort of verifiable reality. The mountain of evidence points to Putin and Russia have a completely different worldview and goals than our homegrown Christian Taliban. But they are going to back him no matter what, and Russia is no longer seen as a enemy, but as an ally.

This latest Trump international fiasco and embarrassment is nothing to worry about as long as the majority of eligible left-leaning voters inside America refuse to even participate in voting.

From there:

At the July 14 rally, Gosar said, “Tommy as a citizen journalist has had his freedoms taken away by the British justice system. And for what? Speaking out against great demonstrable injustices.”

The use of ‘citizen journalist’ is horrible. ‘Citizen this’ and ‘citizen that’ always denigrates the profession alluded to by saying, ‘you don’t need any education to be one of these’. To do that for Robinson is a crime.

I said this the other day - Trump is stuck in the 1980s, WRT Russia. He still sees them as ‘The Other Superpower’, and not what they really are now - a mid-sized, not especially prosperous country. Click through and read the thread. Kelly makes the same point.

If the figures I saw yesterday are correct, Russia’s GPD is $1.56T - smaller even than Texas’ ($1.74T), and only 56% of California’s ($2.75T); IOW, just a third of two US States - and I’m sure that both Texas and California have more diverse economies than the RF

As long as 75% of white men and around 55% of white women in the USA admire Trump for his active championing of white supremacism, and Russia under Putin is seen as a safe haven and ally with that ideology. Trump will never have to worry about truth, facts, evidence, history, or any sort of verifiable reality, even as the mountain of evidence points to Putin and Russia have a completely different worldview and goals than our homegrown Christian Taliban. They are going to back him no matter what. Period.

Yes, yes, yes to the 1st paragraph!!

Regarding the 2nd paragraph…we had 3 million more voters last time and we have to generally outperform them 3 to 1 to have a chance in November. Because they cheat and summon their bigotry to do everything they can to limit democracy and suppress the vote. They cheated with the aid of a foreign govt adversary. This should always be remembered and highlighted.

It’s time for everyone who has an (R) after their name to decide if American sovereignty is more important to them than tax cuts for rich people and taking health care away from poor people.

This country is teetering on the edge. I don’t believe anybody should take the stance that all we have to do is chill and vote. That’s not going to cut it and it’s a view held by a lot of well-meaning people. I just don’t see anything that will change it and really impress upon folks the gravity of the situation either.

GOTV is ridiculously important and everyone should be working on it, but I don’t think that will be enough. I believe massive sustained peaceful direct action and protest will be necessary in conjunction with the midterms and beyond. As many first time protesters and occupiers as we’ve seen since Nov 2016 (and it’s a beautiful thing), it’s not *nearly* enough. People are going to have to make sacrifices to really resist this kleptocratic power grab and white supremacist global power realignment.

Actually they are not even really considering the rest of what he said or the two plus hours of Trump making out with Putin and all the sweet somethings he was telling his Vlad.

I think they are getting sloppy. It is going to catch them out because they are just winging this shit now. And that is in response to Trump just winging it too.

November. Right after the next election because no matter how it comes out, we will be in transition or still puppets at that point in time. Before might just set off a coup in America pitting the military and Intel community against the White House and might put a competent government in place to oppose the Russian’s act of war.

This actually makes me more nervous than you might think. The Blue Wave has been occurring during a period of relative peace. If my experience is any gauge of what’s really happening on the ground, then a few incorrigibles and purity ponies are duking it out and drawing all the attention while the rest of us have buried all our hatchets (and not in backs!) and are working on a blue wave for the midterms.

I don’t have a problem with the attention being directed toward that noisy crowd — democracy may die in darkness, but real work takes place in the quiet corners. And if the media isn’t reporting what’s really going on, our enemies won’t know about it, and I’m happy to let them think we’re confused and divided.

The best spies in history have not been men or women in majorly important positions, because those positions tend to be the most monitored. They’re generally those in positions that those people rely upon. Secretaries, assistants, suppliers, etc. Low level functionaries who nobody suspects because those around them declare “They’re a nobody.”

There is truth to that.

If I am doing historical exercises, I have a 10” “Arkansas Toothpick” that I use as a left hand weapon. Now imagine someone with a 20” blade in his strong hand and a 10” blade in his off hand. If you’re not playing fencing, then those two blades looking at you will freak out a whole lot of people :D

Using blades as self defense is not fun. Don’t let any romantic asshole lie to you. It’s worse than any firearm. You are up close and personal with a weapon that will splatter your ass with hot, wet, blood. Killing with a blade is very up close and personal (yes, I said that already, it’s so very fucking true) and you will never forget it.

If you shoot someone you’ll be usually be a couple of meters away.

If you use a sword to cut off his fucking arm? You will be within two feet of him. And very fucking wet with hot, sticky blood.

That fucking sucks.

It can be necessary, but it fucking sucks.

So Rachel just created a “to do” list for hearing Congress could be holding, like (paraphrasing) looking into who the congresscritter was who took the stolen Gucifer docs; why they fired the cyber security guru (and didn’t replace him); what happened with the info about Russians hacking into our infrastructure systems; why was Jared meeting with a sanctioned Russian; why did the administration tell the State Department to find ways to get rid of Russian sanctions just weeks into the administration; and on and on—actual issues that Congress has a legitimate reason to hold hearings to investigate. And—crickets.

But they’ve held hearings about freakin’ Diamond and Silk getting their fee-fees hurt and morons like Gym Jordon wondering why peeps are being mean to Gateway Pundit.

I need a drink. Or several.

re: #389 Targetpractice

The best spies in history have not been men or women in majorly important positions, because those positions tend to be the most monitored. They’re generally those in positions that those people rely upon. Secretaries, assistants, suppliers, etc. Low level functionaries who nobody suspects because those around them declare “They’re a nobody.”

The spy on board the Red October was the cook. Remember that.

Come to think of it, Steven Seagal played a cook in The Siege.

Watch out for cooks on ships. They be dangerous.
