[Literally the site of a WW2 internment camp.]

Also, too:

In 1894, the US Congress passed a special provision to allow the Chiricahua to be relocated to Indian Territory. They were the last Indian tribe to be relocated into what is now Oklahoma.[2] When the Chiricahua arrived at Fort Sill, they had been promised the lands surrounding the fort as theirs to settle. Local non-Indians resisted Apache settlement, and the tribe was pressured to leave. Many wanted to return to their traditional lands in the Southwest, and the Mescalero Apache offered them land on their reservation.

‘Fort’ is a four-letter word starting with f.

Is America Actually Metric?

The US signed the metre convention and bases all customary units on SI standards. As an aside, the Utah constitution from 1895 required the metric system to be taught in schools. This requirement was repealed in 1987.

JUST IN: Army’s Fort Sill in Oklahoma will host about 1,400 unaccompanied migrant children taken in by HHS. They will be sheltered in hard-sided structures while support ops will be in tents.

If you would like to learn a whole new artillery-flavored vocabulary, try to get a call through to the Ft. Sill commander and get his take on this.

Chicken Farmers Thought Trump Was Going to Help Them. Then His Administration Did the Opposite.

“The chicken company cost me my ability to feed my children and pay our bills,” said Tony Grigsby, a retired cop in Alabama who recently quit chicken farming. Grigsby identifies as a Republican and enthusiastically supported Trump, but he said he wished Trump hadn’t scrapped Obama’s regulations. “I hear the president saying he’s doing things for the American farmer,” he said, “but it’s almost like it’s only a certain percentage.”

Will people like these ever get their much needed epiphany?

We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win, and the others, too.

It’s just a promise that Biden can’t keep.

Cancer is not only not rare, but each and every one of us have cells that have gone haywire. For many of us, we simply die of other reasons before they can cause death, or our immune systems can cope with the damaging cells.

Cancer survival rates are way up over the past half century, and certainly for many kinds of cancer we can still improve treatment.

Yet the idea that one can “cure cancer” is misplaced, because “cancer” is not just one thing.

48
Charles Johnson  Jun 11, 2019 • 5:26:33pm

Sorry but I’m just not sold on Joe Biden. He isn’t awful, and I agree with him on many things, but I find a lot of the stuff he’s been saying very troubling, not because it’s extreme or crazy, but because it seems kind of disconnected from 2019 realities.

49
Decatur Deb  Jun 11, 2019 • 5:27:26pm

Biden failing to keep a promise is less frightening than Trump fulfilling one.

Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus  Jun 11, 2019 • 5:28:04pm

Far and away, I think anyone in public health will state, that the key to increasing survival rate is early detection.

And early detection means access to screening, on a regular basis.

And that is only possible if people can afford it.

And that gets us to the key problem: healthcare is rationed by price in this country.

60
Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus  Jun 11, 2019 • 5:39:48pm

Here is what I wish Biden would publicly focus upon:

That in this country we’re rationing healthcare by price.

And that part of this is that we’ve allocated too much of our resources not to healers (and researchers who support them), but to interests whose goal is to make money off of the ill: insurance companies, bill collectors, etc.

Now I know that insurance employees are people too… heck, even bill collectors are people.

But all the wages going to these sectors of our economy could instead be directed towards work that actually addresses human health.

Yet in America our values are that the number one goal in life is to get rich.

This is why Trump found so many easy marks and why he has to keep the pretense up that he is fabulously wealthy.

You and me both. Polls are the ultimate in the Disraeli (reputedly) triad of “lies, damned lies, and statistics”. I hate it when Bernie Bros cite some meaningless poll on how “Bernie would have clearly defeated Trump”. At this point, polls primarily reflect name recognition.

Here’s the June 2015 NBC/WSJ poll, as a reminder of how worthless they are:

Polls are important, even this far out, because they give us a sense of the race. A single poll is fairly worthless (at least the top lines) at this point. But you can already see trends forming. And if you are willing to dig into the polls a bit more, you can find important information.

Is there a rail line into Fort Irwin? I didn’t see one on the map: goo.gl

Wait… I thought that is exactly why the Interstate Highway system was built?

Trucks can use the interstate, including trucks designed to haul tanks. Tanks would break down as well as rip the shit out of the road bed. Trains are the preferred transport outside of actual combat.

There is. The army has been doing it since before WWII.

Florida Man Strikes Again!

A Florida man was arrested over the weekend after authorities caught him with cocaine on his nose at a traffic stop.

At around 4:30 a.m. local time on Sunday, deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a vehicle at a traffic stop in Tampa, Florida. When authorities approached the car, a female deputy immediately noticed that a passenger in the car, later identified as 20-year-old Fabricio Tueros Jimenez, had a white powdery substance on his nose, reported The Smoking Gun. Investigators recognized the powder as cocaine, police say.

Jimenez was arrested without incident but he attempted to tell the deputies the cocaine on his nose was not his,” according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

About that rural internet, or the lack of it. Isn’t that being solved by the magical Free Market? Why does Trump want to involve government?

Still trying to find it on the google image, but it’s supposedly there: dvidshub.net. Maybe the government required them to erase it from the images.

Well, she’s not in Alabama that’s for damn sure.

The BNSF line goes through Barstow. The equipment, if heading towards Ft. Irwin, would have to be unloaded and put on trailers and by truck go to Ft. Irwin… or I suppose the vehicles could be driven across the desert in some sort of mini-exercise from the Marine base to Ft. Irwin.

Looks like Milo hasn’t aged well in the past year. But I wouldn’t put it past him to do “poor-pitiful-me” victim eye accents.

I don’t know why the Marxists come out to attack identity-class consciousness so much these days, but it’s gonna mean that I’m just as illegal under a commie regime as a fascist one. So I will punch back and try to get them to stop looking for WWC support.

Still kinda glad I was able to find the tweet that sent me down the rabbit-hole here:

And just for the record, I know the religion doesn’t make ‘em that way, they may come out of the womb with it and the religion only feeds it. But I also know how the Marxist sees it and am rebutting his unseen argument. Now if I can only start remembering to say everything I want in the original post, since usually by the time I think of what I want to add, the original’s been in people’s Spy long enough that they wouldn’t know there are revisions, so I end up double-posting instead so things can be heard.

Yes, that’s the BNSF line that goes through Flagstaff. But Barstow is 25 miles from Ft. Irwin.

Yes, unit’s mostly use prepositioned vehicles. Saves money. What they rail in goes through Barstow and is moved over road on heavy transports to Irwin

Chicken Farmers Thought Trump Was Going to Help Them. Then His Administration Did the Opposite.

Will people like these ever get their much needed epiphany?

by the time oedipus got his, he had to blind himself, mostly because hitting oneself with the Stupid hammer wouldn’t come in to vogue for another 2000 years.

re: #44 Decatur Deb

We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win, and the others, too.

Now, whenever I hear this, I also hear Robert Frost mumbling into the microphone, “It’s too bright. I can’t read this.” And then reciting “The Gift Outright” from memory instead.
