I need to find a not terribly expensive bowler hat somewhere in the Metroplex for a costume for my son? Does anyone have any ideas where I might find one?

End Times broadcaster and anti-Semite Rick Wiles, last seen explaining how pro-choice people would be eternally aborted by demons in Hell, said on a recent episode of “TruNews” that meatless burgers are part of a Satanic plot to turn people away from God.

His logic — and I use that word very generously — is that a plant-based alternative to meat is subverting God’s Master Plan to have us eat His other creations. Therefore, if you’re eating these vegetarian patties, you’re actually rejecting God.

It is annoying that Yang and Williamson made the debates but Bullock and Moulton didn’t. I am not a fan of Moulton but he has far more serious credentials than either Yang or Williamson.

I saw this earlier today. Later on, I went to a doctor’s appointment and the Del Taco in the shopping center had big banners proclaiming that it was now selling Beyond Burger tacos. I’m thinking the Beyond Burger products are going to be more popular than Rick Wiles’ rants.

The United Kingdom’s National Cyber Security Centre has found a flaw in Windows Remote Desktop Services which allows an attacker to take over or elevate privileges on a Windows computer (not Windows 10).

It is severe enough that Microsoft has issued an out-of-band fix for older versions of Windows.

For Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008, along with a description of the problem, Microsoft offers workarounds and mitigations, along with downloads to repair the problem.

portal.msrc.microsoft.com

Downloads to repair the problem in Windows XP (all versions) and Windows Server 2003 may be found here.

support.microsoft.com

Microsoft considers the potential exploit to be “critical” for all versions of Windows listed.

Thanks for the warning! My mother’s desktop is the only pre-10 machine in the house; we bought her a Win7 machine when Win8 was already out because of how much worse the latter was without any form of touchpad/touchscreen.

Well, if the video was taken at a great distance then the quality becomes a function of many things, such as the atmosphere.

Anyway, I wonder about that video, namely, the boat outline is distinct enough that one ought to be able to identify kind and maker.

A couple of people on the boat seem to be wearing headdresses and that seems quite weird for a military operation. Why would Iranian military not be wearing military gear?

Oh, I have very treasured memories when Slick Rick crashed our college party in 1977, tried to pick up a girl, she turned around and slapped him in the face.

Slick Rick was too stupid to get the hint, tried to hit on another girl and she slapped him, too.

And yet that asshole got into Congress and the Senate…

Ayup to both. And having your blinders on, while having your fingers in your ears, and your head itself up your ass is how you end up steadfastly insisting you just had a hydrogen explosion in a steam separator and “only” 3.6 mSv, while reality is that you have 15 Sv and an open core breach.

A proper thing to respond to “SCIENCE IS A LIBRUL CONSPIRACY!!” would be to say something among the lines that assuming that Libruls are always wrong and evil only works if they truly always are wrong or evil…

Truth is always there, whether we see it or not, whether we choose to or not.
It doesn’t care about our needs or wants.

The argument goes something like this: “I refuse to prove that I exist,” says God, “for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.”
“But,” says Man, “the Babel fish is a dead giveaway isn’t it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and therefore, by your own arguments, you don’t. QED.”
“Oh dear,” says God, “I hadn’t thought of that,” and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.
“Oh, that was easy,” says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets killed on the next zebra crossing.”

I have “treat balls” for the cats which are mouse-shaped. They really did not go for food in them, but cat treats… SURE!

Chat Noir really likes his treats. To the point that if I open the file cabinet (where the treats are stored) he rushes in to see if treats are being given out. And when he sees me load the treat mice he’ll follow me around to see where I place them so that he can immediately start getting the treats out. It’s to the point that I have to dispense some distraction treats simply to get a chance to go place the mice.

And once he eats the distraction he immediately starts hunting around the house to find the treat mice.

Slick Rick has always been too stupid for his own good.

He initially got into the House by running a campaign against a complacent long-term Democrat in the district where I lived at the time in western PA. Talked the conservative talking points that fit what is a relatively conservative and Catholic-heavy area.

And he was one of those freshman Reps that were going to fix Congress! Newt pretty much whipped them into line as lockstep GOP within six months.

The Hatch Act, 5 U.S.C.S. §§ 7321-7326, forbids employees of the United States and its agencies, generally, from politicizing the work place. It assures that federal employees are appointed and promoted according to merit, and that they serve the public equally, regardless of political affiliation.

The Japanese owner of the Kokuka Courageous, one of two oil tankers targeted near the Strait of Hormuz, said Friday that sailors on board saw “flying objects” just before it was hit, suggesting the vessel wasn’t damaged by mines.

That account contradicts what the U.S. military said as it released a video Friday it said shows Iranian forces removing an unexploded limpet mine from one of the two ships that were hit.

The Japanese tanker was attacked twice Thursday, damaging the vessel and forcing all 21 crew members to evacuate.

Company president Yutaka Katada said Friday he believes the flying objects seen by the sailors could have been bullets. He denied any possibility of mines or torpedoes because the damage was above the ship’s waterline. He called reports of a mine attack “false.”

Marine veteran, 41, is shot and killed while trying to apologize to BMW passenger after a road rage encounter at a Florida stoplight. A Marine veteran has been shot and killed by the passenger of a BMW who opened fire on him as he tried to apologize to its driver for cutting them off on a Florida road.

Keith Byrne, 41, was killed by Andre Sinclair, 22, as he tried to apologize to Sinclair’s girlfriend, who was driving their car, in Davie, a suburb of Miami, on June 7. Byrne, a father-of-three, accidentally cut the woman off. He was on the phone to a friend at the time and told them that he was waiting for the other vehicle to pull up to a stoplight to say sorry. From his pick up truck, he told them: ‘My bad.’ Keith Byrne, 41, was killed by Andre Sinclair, 22, as he tried to apologize to Sinclair’s girlfriend, who was driving their car, in Davie, a suburb of Miami, on June 7 Sinclair got out of the vehicle, approached Byrne’s truck, and grabbed him by the neck.

He then opened fire as his girlfriend and their 19-month-old daughter sat in their vehicle.

Ten counts of obstruction of justice
Abuse of the pardon power (granting pardons for political reasons, dangling pardons)
Abuse of power (national emergencies - 2 counts)
Abuse of power (executive privilege)
Abuse of office (granting security clearances to unqualified individuals - multiple counts)
Obstruction of Congress (multiple counts)
Accepting foreign emoluments
Accepting domestic emoluments
Crimes against humanity (treatment of migrants/asylum seekers at the border)
Campaign finance violations (Stormy Daniels)
Conspiracy to defraud the United States (the famous collusion)
Corruption (nice catch all)
Graft

That’s easily two dozen articles of impeachment just off the top of my head. I’m willing to bet that investigations/inquiries will find more - like perjury related to his answers given in the Special Counsel investigation.

Wednesday group:

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren
Former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke
New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker
Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro
Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard
Washington Gov. Jay Inslee
Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio
Former Maryland Rep. John Delaney
Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan

Thursday group:

Former Vice President Joe Biden
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders
South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg
California Sen. Kamala Harris
New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand
Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet
Author Marianne Williamson
California Rep. Eric Swalwell
Businessman Andrew Yang
Former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper

Depending on who you consider top tier candidates, only two are in the Wednesday group (Warren and O’Rourke). Not sure if that’s good or bad for them, since the other grouping arguably has 4 (Biden, Sanders, Buttigieg, and Harris).

I suspect we will see the field narrow after these debates.

It’s a natural, not a hatchery fish (note small dorsal fin near tail…hatchery fish have these removed). Filleted out beautifully. Got six two person portions out of it. Bringing five back to the neighbor as I was just doing this for her. Keeping one to eat tonight.

Grill it and baste with herb butter!

re: #189 KGxvi

The first debate fields were announced.

Wednesday group:

Thursday group:

Depending on who you consider top tier candidates, only two are in the Wednesday group (Warren and O’Rourke). Not sure if that’s good or bad for them, since the other grouping arguably has 4 (Biden, Sanders, Buttigieg, and Harris).

I suspect we will see the field narrow after these debates.

I think Booker and Castro are also considered top tier at least as far as the definition from the DNC.

Has anyone here with back issues had this particular procedure?

I almost always grill my salmon. I like to make a foil envelope so it poaches quickly in its own steam and as the skin’s against the foil the fish lifts off the skin when it goes to table.

JFC. Read that letter from their attorney. Harrowing does not begin to cover it, nor does the $10 million in the settlement demand.

re: #1 Belafon

I need to find a not terribly expensive bowler hat somewhere in the Metroplex for a costume for my son? Does anyone have any ideas where I might find one?

I did not see a reply yet, so…
Places like Party City might have a bowler party hat. If not black you could spray paint it.

Also, Amazon seems to have everything. Cool looking costume ones for about $10

edit……aaaand there is the reply I missed.

Thanks. I like to buy those things physically if possible, especially since my son’s head is a bit bigger than average.

The guy was wrong to cut the other dude off. But he was NOT wrong to shoot at the guy after being shot himself.

I suspect we don’t know the actual truth. Guy pulls gun other guy goes for gun first guy shoots second guy before second guy can shoot first guy. Second guy then shoots first guy. What’s the point of carrying if you can’t brandish?

4 children left fatherless because Sinclair had a gun. It is clear that possession of a gun substitutes for thinking, rationality, and judgement. It provides the owner with an unjustified sense of self-confidence and arrogance.

That was my point about the “guns make a polite society”. I deserved the down-dings, but everyone carrying a gun makes for dead people, not politeness.

Yes, it sucks for them. But he was carrying a handgun with the expectation of using it somewhere/somewhen, he was unhinged, too. Yes, it was self-defense, yes he was an asshole for carrying a gun around in public.
