Tomorrow I am going to be paying particular attention to which House Democrats are team players focused on the task at hand, and which ones are there to raise their own profiles by creating viral video moments. I will look into sending money to potential primary opponents of anyone who falls into the latter category.

And of course I already know there will be plenty of stomach churning moments as human detritus like Mark Meadows and Gym Jordan compete to see who shall be named most obedient Trump defender.

So, it was an optics thing.
I mean, why the hell not explain it honestly from the beginning?

“… If Pence had flown on Air Force Two for the planned opioid event in Manchester, N.H., he would have come into contact with former New York Giants player Jeff Hatch, who now works for the opioid addiction treatment center Pence was set to visit, Politico reports.

Hatch is under investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for moving more than $100,000 of fentanyl from Massachusetts to New Hampshire, and he agreed on Friday to plead guilty to the charge and will serve up to four years in prison, according to Politico. …”

Wait why is Trump grabbing this young person by the shoulders if he makes fun of Joe Biden for doing the same thing?

Is it OK because this young person is a male? I assume it is a male because TPUSA is gender-role-conforming cis-hetero-normative.

Let’s be real here. The GOP cares about deficits only if money is going to help those in need; reducing taxes on the wealthy is the name of their game and it’s even better if you can use the increased deficit as an excuse to cut/destroy existing programs that help the poor or middle class.

Considering he’s been floating the idea of just ignoring the constitution repeatedly and wanting to serve beyond 2 terms, as well as outright telling people that the constitution makes him literally king, it’s not something I’m putting past him.

And it’s beyond arguable at this point that the Dem response since the election has been hopelessly anemic outside of a few firebrands like AOC.

Just wait- the Trump Campaign 2020 will somehow exclude Coal Industry types from the largest stage presentations, and any talk of bringing back coal will be absent from campaign rhetoric. Coal is going to be dropped like a hot potato from the propaganda and instead in their place touting great things will be Stock Market types with their inflated bank accounts and Montauk mansions.

Coal workers (working or laid off) will be left feeling had, abused, and left behind. But hey- at least they still have their Whiteness …and that’s good enough to pull the lever again from Trump.

Had a medical scare with my Dad today. Got the call from his medical alert service. I called him, no answer. Tried his cell, disconnected. Paramedics reported a weird address for the distress call from his emergency alert pendant. Empty house? I got the paramedics to his home address, where he was just coming home from the dentist. False alarm. But damn 90 yo elderly and no cell phone? He is getting a Jitterbug this weekend period. He is fine of course but that medical alert pendant has a problem. When they try to talk to him via the tiny speaker it’s not near loud enough. $40 a month and a lease on the device? Scammy if you ask me.

I gave up on NPR a long time ago. It became clear that the philosophy, at least for the news, is to simply mirror the society around them, rather than do the uncomfortable job of challenging the society.

Your local public radio station, which is probably run by a local college, may be fine.

But the national organization NPR is not worth keeping around.

Replace it.

I gave up on NPR back in the 80s when they endlessly kissed Slappy Thomas’ ass and Nina Tottenberg endlessly lied about Anita Hill.

I’m actually lucky when it comes to public radio, I think. I listen to KVJZ all the time in my car, which is a repeater for KUVO in Denver, one of the best jazz radio stations in the United States. I love Saturday nights! The R&B Jukebox is some of the best two hours on radio.

I’d normally pass this by as the delusions of Calvinist preachers whose ties are so snug not enough blood is getting to their brains except for the political implications.

There is a group called “Founders Ministries,” a parachurch “organization” affiliated loosely to the Southern Baptist Convention. They exist, I guess, to beat back any sort of inclination to listen to people of color or women preachers or those who are advocating for child sexual abuse victims in churches. This “organization” has a “cinedoc” coming out in September and it’s going to be a doozy, a veritable cornucopia of false light defamation.

Here’s the video, it is 3 minutes and 52 seconds of garbage (but see below). It’s worth noting that one of the twits from the church I picket on Sunday was involved in filming this thing, and may have edited this. He certainly was crowing about it today on Twitter. This twit does not attend an SBC church.

founders.org

At about the second minute in, they bash an unidentified liberal Lutheran pastor Nadia Bolz-Weber, and then carefully juxtapose her to an unidentified Rachael Denhollander (who is pictured in various blurred formats). Ms. Denhollander has been all over child sexual abuse (she exposed Larry Nassar’s abuse) and spoke at an SBC session last month. The voiceover at that point talks about “we’re always having the powers and principalities exert pressure on us,” with the implication that Ms. Denhollander is satanically inspired.

At 3:01 in the video, there are four images carefully shown, one after another. Basically, scary women, scary SJWs, scary protesters, scary Bernie Sanders. Yeah, scary Bernie. They’re behind the button.

What’s interesting is that Scary Nadia Bolz-Weber and Scary Protesters and Scary Bernie were left out of a version of the video Founders “leaders” shared on their YouTube program yesterday.

The video did cause an uproar and some of the men named in it objected, some strenuously, to the way they were portrayed. The thing is—with the exception of Nadia Bolz-Weber, all of the named people are very conservative Baptists, but not conservative enough for Founders. Not conservative enough, not racist enough, not sexist enough, not willing to gag women and people of color and people asking for change on child sexual abuse. Founders Ministries are a disgusting bunch who basically think liberalism “has been their core tactic for a century and a half”. That’s a quote from one of their favored guys, and the implication is pretty clear. The SBC was great when it was run by Calvinists before the Civil War.

Why? Because it’s those nights when the lack of a manager on duty becomes the most obvious, as nothing you can do within the powers of your job title will satisfy the assholes who decide at 2am to make a federal case out of not being able to find a parking spot.

Regarding that QAnon nut (Danielle Stella) who wants to run against Rep. Ilhan Omar, there’s this little tidbit…..she may not be a Q-cumber after all but rather, she’s just using it to appeal to the nutcases, riding the wave as it were.

While someone who appeared to work for the campaign told Right Wing Watch that Stella stood “100 percent” behind Q, former aides told The Daily Beast it was actually a ruse. Jodi Larson, a former Stella campaign staffer who has since backed another candidate, said Stella is just posing as a QAnon believer to gain campaign support.

“She tries to portray herself as she supports it, but she doesn’t even understand it,” Larson said.

Larson accompanied Stella on a trip to Washington, D.C. early this month, where she claims Stella wore the QAnon necklace.

“She just wears it to get attention,” Larson said.

Stella didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Some good news here:

A man whose relatives reported concerns about his behavior and far-right extremist rhetoric after last year’s Pittsburgh synagogue massacre pleaded guilty to a federal gun charge Tuesday.

Jeffrey Clark Jr., 30, of Washington, D.C., faces a maximum of 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of illegal possession of firearms by a person who is an unlawful user of a controlled substance.

Estimated sentencing guidelines call for a sentence ranging from 10 to 16 months, but U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly, who is scheduled to sentence Clark on Sept. 13, isn’t bound by those guidelines. The judge refused to release him before sentencing.

The FBI said Clark is a self-described white nationalist who followed Pittsburgh synagogue shooting suspect Robert Bowers on the Gab social media platform and referred to him as a “hero” in a post after the Oct. 27, 2018, shooting. Bowers spewed anti-Semitic hatred on his Gab account before killing 11 people inside the synagogue, authorities said.

Hopefully, ten years in the slammer. Good.

Just… no. Your flowchart is just special pleading, though for some reason you think it profound.

Do you understand the fallacy you are committing?

There are natural phenomena that are (at least currently) beyond the realm of explanation by science.

That criterion used to apply to nearly everything.

Beyond the limits of science, we can apply only conjecture and faith.

But to then conclude that a 4,000-year-old Middle Eastern text (or any other scripture) is the literal and immutable Word of God is pure fantasy.

Your comment makes the assumption that Republicans care about Democratic outrage or the children themselves. Neither assumption is correct. Republicans, and especially Trump, only care about their deplorable base. If their actions please the base, then it’s all good.

I am aware of that, the GOP base applauds inhumane treatment of immigrants and foreigners. And even dark-skinned American citizens.

I am addressing the need to appeal to other voters who might consider the GOP. they have to be made aware of the inhumanity that guides GOP policy.

Good Morning from the Raining tip of South Texas…..

It’s Anvil day today. I pick up my old my new old Navy anvil from the breaking yard here in Brownsville. And I hope the anvil drops on the Orange turd in Washington

I don’t know why this happens….

I took a quick tour through the cable news this morning. CNN: Mueller; MSNBC: Mueller; FnF: “Harlem kids disrespect police by throwing water on them!!!”

I can see FnF are confident that Mueller will “clear” Trump so the best solution is a fake outrage for their viewers.

Well, I checked the news and see Trump did not declare martial law at 5AM this morning like my Qwazy Q relatives said he would.

And I haven’t been arrested as they said I would.

So I sent them an e-mail asking those suckers how dumb do they have to be to believe anything that Q says. They’re being played for fools and they’re too stupid to realize it.

Things could be worse…they could be dumb enough to campaign for Marianne Williamson…

I’m not either. I’m going to treat myself to a nice birthday lunch and listen to music and watch a movie.

Happy Birthday.

A throwback to the old days when only male landowners were allowed to vote.

I think you only have to go back to January 30, 1933.

Yep. Though, to be fair, I just checked again and their doing a more balanced reporting now with Bret Baier and another announcer (albeit with a slightly more Trump-leaning analyst in Andrew McCarthy who I guess is a former assistant Federal prosecutor).

re: #147 Targetpractice

It’s been my experience since starting to work a graveyard shift job that it’s not the nights when you know you’re walking into Hell that leave you contemplating curling into the fetal position and crying, it’s the nights when you come in thinking “This will be a cinch” that see the fecal matter hit the rotary impeller again and again. Why? Because it’s those nights when the lack of a manager on duty becomes the most obvious, as nothing you can do within the powers of your job title will satisfy the assholes who decide at 2am to make a federal case out of not being able to find a parking spot.

Or come in at 2am without a reservation because they just closed the bars and realized they can’t drive home but it’s the busiest weekend of the summer and you were sold out a month ago…

Rescuing the Bible from Fundamentalism: A Bishop Rethinks the Meaning of Scripture
by John Shelby Spong

He really tears apart the inherent flaws in modern American Fundamentalist-literalist theology and theodicy, which, despite all its claims of being traditional and going back to basics, is a modern American development.

An atheist and an Episcopalian Bishop, Bishop Spong wrote a number of good books on theology and Christianity and had more than a small impact on my theology (believing God but not in an afterlife, etc.) His most recent book was “Biblical Literalism - A Gentile Heresy”.

This is one reason the opening of _Rollerball_ (the older “good” version from 1975) is worth watching.

re: #164 Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus

Specifically, it is the Christian apologetic argument known as the Kalam Cosmological Argument.

Aside from the fact that philosophical arguments prove nothing, it fails because it makes an unfalsifiable assumption for its first argument “everything which exists must have a cause.”

It then makes an unproveable assumption “that cause must be a god, and specifically the Christian god.”

William Lane Craig resurrected this argument from mediæval Islamic scholarship. “Kalam” is actually the name of Islamic scholarship. Modern Islam has abandoned this argument for the existence of God (Allah).

So the argument for proof of a Christian god based on this argument can be debunked multiple ways:

a) It’s not a Christian argument. (Appeal to their bigotry.)
b) The correct answers to all the premises is “we don’t know,” therefore God (because God has never been demonstrated).

I addressed this as my first apologetics fail on my wife’s Website.
