Gilroy Garlic Festival: Another Mass Shooting by a White Supremacist

Politics • Views: 24,239

In America’s latest incident of horrific gun violence, it turns out that the 19-year old gunman who killed three people and wounded at least a dozen at the Gilroy Garlic Festival yesterday was a white supremacist.

Santino William Legan, who was shot dead by police Sunday before he could do more damage, posted online about an 1890 racist manifesto, “Might is Right or The Survival of the Fittest,” NBC News confirmed.

“Read Might is Right by Ragnar Redbeard,” Legan posted on his Instagram page. He then used a slurs against mixed-race people and misogynistic descriptions of white Silicon Valley workers, complaining about “hordes” of them “overcrowding” towns.

Redbeard, which was a pseudonym, argued that only strength and violence determined what is morally right. The work, which is filled with misogynistic and anti-Semitic rhetoric, is a staple among neo-Nazis and white supremacists on extremist sites.

It’s as though no matter how security I keep my personal account information, some bank will get hacked and my data will get into the wrong hands.

These companies think it’s the cost of doing business. For those hit with the data breaches, it’s their very financial futures that are harmed. That’s the problem.

Even the Equifax deal isn’t sufficient to compensate everyone harmed. If the money set aside isn’t sufficient to cover everyone seeking claims, everyone will see less than the $125 announced.

Another mass shooting. That was two this weekend - the other being in NYC. We know that the CA shooter was able to buy the assault weapon in Nevada, avoiding the more stringent laws in California. We know he was radicalized and had white supremacist views.

We know Trump peddles white supremacist claptrap.
We know Trump is a stochastic terrorist.

Trump remains profoundly silent about this latest mass shooting because the shooter is white and not Muslim or a minority or an illegal immigration. Only then would Trump tweet endlessly about how minorities and illegals are killing Americans and that it has to stop - with a wall or stopping Muslims from coming here.

Trump and the Saudis:

Push to give Saudis nuclear reactors.
Push to give Saudis munitions factory to build weapons they’re using in Yemen conflict; they aren’t just going to buy from American factories, but would build them in Saudi Arabia - jobs that Americans can’t get thanks to Trump.

In both cases, the Saudi regime isn’t trustworthy or sturdy enough against rebels or insurgencies. They exported extremists when things got too hot for them - al Qaeda being but one of those groups. Now, why would a terror group go elsewhere when they could infiltrate or capture nuclear materials and/or munitions built at factory in Saudi Arabia. Trump makes things more dangerous for the US. Again.

It’s his thing.

I’m gonna take a wild guess that the Saudis played him like a fool by “suggesting” that if they couldn’t make the sale with the US, they’d happily take their money to those that would sell to them *couRussiagh*. This really isn’t surprising, both hotels I’ve worked at changed to such within the past two years. It’s a bit of a pain if housekeeping isn’t diligent or a guest goes crazy with how much they use at a time, but it also means families that decide to pack their rooms like clown cars aren’t constantly calling the front desk to beg for more mini-bottles.

This was pretty much the case in Japan. I think even the ryokan we stayed at had this setup. Three large bottles in a rack in the shower/tub area. I actually prefer it but yeah, some of the scents are icky. This reminds me of how much I want a Japanese tub/shower room.

To my (total lack of) surprise, the NYT article is not about IHG taking some totally unprecedented step that is a complete shock for the hotel industry…it’s their using something most of the major hotel chains have already been doing to score some good press. And NYT trying to suggest that it is in some way “controversial,” when really the only reason the average goober will bitch is because it’s being framed by hotel companies as a “green” move when really it’s a cost-saving measure.

Spinning bulk shampoo dispensers as a “green” effort is the same as your boss telling you that corporate is going “green” by cutting back the number of reports you’re supposed to print out daily. It’s not so much “green” as it is exploiting data storage technology to cut back on a business expense (i.e. printer paper).

I’m okay with green. I travel a lot, I take the remains in the little bottles with me so they won’t go to waste — and I’m swamped with little bottles. I now take my own shampoo with me because I don’t want any more (probably not recyclable) little bottles. Shampoo dispensers rock!

Bernie’s only real selling point ‘16 was that he was the only real opposition to Hillary, and he doesn’t have that this go around. Donate any you have to a woman’s shelter.

I like the thought, but what I bring home is about enough to wash your hair twice. The women’s shelter would benefit more from one single full-sized bottle of shampoo. (In fact, I donate to the food bank for my “local” charity.)

[the issue presents a constitutional conundrum worthy of discussion]

There is a conundrum between Dersh’s ears. There is no conundrum in a human of any age having the right to appropriate medical care.

Brains aren’t fully developed until the mid 20s. Why we allow people with undeveloped brains to buy all the guns and ammo they want is a mystery.
(Well, not really. Young men have always been the warriors because they are young, strong, and disposable. Doesn’t work as well in a modern society.)

Italian training ship Amerigo Vespucci
Since 1931, Amerigo Vespucci has plied the seas (though mostly the Mediterranean) training Italy’s future naval officers. The sails are traditional canvas and the rigging (30 km of it) is all traditional hemp rope with the exception of synthetic mooring lines required by modern port standards.

While sailing the Mediterranean Sea in 1962, the American aircraft carrier USS Independence flashed the Amerigo Vespucci with the light signal asking: “Who are you?” The full-rigged ship answered: “Training ship Amerigo Vespucci, Italian Navy.” The Independence replied: “You are the most beautiful ship in the world.”

A guy who went around the other week insisting he’d only slept with one woman and challenging to the lawyer representing his accusers to say the same thing under oath is now out there arguing that statutory rape laws are “outdated.”

Something tells me he’s got a conga line of skeletons just waiting to burst out of his closet.

Pretty sure that’s an old article. The Michael Kennedy scandal - which the article refers to as ‘recent’ - took place in 1997.

I’m agreeing

If we let any 19yo buy guns we are saying they are responsible. All of them. Every single one.

If we think they might not be responsible we can’t let them buy guns.

There is no third way

I totally agree. I’d come down on the “don’t let them buy guns” side, with a few exceptions (sport shooting, hunting. Not assault style rifles.)

I think you read that wrong.

The signature on the letter reportedly doesn’t match those on Gottheimer’s previous letters released by his office.

It follows another letter sent in the past week that claimed to be from one of his staff members.

I am outraged that a dedicated member of my staff has been dragged into this cowardly attack on me,” Gottheimer said.

So Bernie’s campaign manager went on TV to call people who watch debates stupid, then bragged about insulating his boss from the media by creating their own propaganda network. When they do, the only people “interviewing” Sanders will be staffers, cult loyalists and sycophants.

So the Bernie team is trying to create a Bernie version of Fox News?

Just a little personal note on guns. I have divested from the shooting range and resigned from the BOD. Not over any dispute or politics, I simply don’t have the time what with some small business building to do. I think I will always be an advocate for the right of self-defense as a basic human right, including reasonable means to do so.
